Some comments[edit]

Firstly, well done to all those who have made this possible. It is just wonderful to have these images available here on commons.

One point on categorisation: The uploader (a bot?) is tending to categorise in both the general category and the national category (i.e. Category:Verandas and Category:Verandas in Australia) One other point is that there seems to be a default categorisation of all images as "Queensland". This is not quite right, the Far North Coast of NSW has a fair representation as well. Also, there seems to be a default categorisation as "Black and White". There are one or two colour images about. Category:Architectural elements in Australia seems to me to be a tad overused, isn't this a meta-category?

The bot does not yet eliminate parent categories when a more refined(child) category has been provided in the Commons:State Library of Queensland/Subjects mapping. I'll do that soon.
The category Category:Architectural elements in Australia is being used because it appears in the subject mapping (somewhere).
There is no default categorisation for "Queensland". Can you point me to one or two images where it was incorrectly added?
There is a default categorisation for B&W photograph, as requested on the Bot request page.

Sorry, my poor explanation has caused some confusion re:Queensland categorisation. I meant that the bot appears to be automatically categorising the files in the "Queensland" category space when many are actually Far North NSW or PNG. Looking at the bot request, it appears this is by design given that most images (90%+) are of Queensland. -- Mattinbgn/talk 21:20, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cricket[edit]

Hi.

I'm especially interested in cricket - and there must be plenty of cricket-related items. I'm not especially au-fait with Commons and I'm not techie. Is there a way to search within this Category for keywords in the description parameter? Older versions needing replacement[edit]

I just stumbled over File:American Army - Brisbane - 1941 102768b.jpg in Category:Images from the State Library of Queensland. That image is 150 × 112 pixels -- not even a half-decent stamp. The image was uploaded in 2008, but a higher resolution image can be found by searching for "102768" in http://www.pictureqld.slq.qld.gov.au/.

After I found that one, it wasn't hard to find another. I just looked for suspiciously small file sizes, such as File:Beenleigh Distillery ca. 1912.jpg which is only 14,173 bytes. Sure enough, you can find a better version by searching for "Beenleigh Distillery 1912" at the SQL site. It seems likely that there are others. Maybe this should be added to the section titled "Things you can help with". Rl (talk) 11:40, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rl, well spotted. Sometime this week I will be doing an audit of all images uploaded prior to the donation, automatically fixing any simple issues, and will publish the results, so we can more quickly address any more complex problems. Report 2 completed[edit]

I've compiled the second report (Commons:State_Library_of_Queensland/Reports/2) with most of the same data as the first report (Commons:State_Library_of_Queensland/Reports/1). Are there any other useful stats that we could add? Thanks to everyone whose name appears in the report. ships batch[edit]

The bot is running again, uploading all of the images of ships. See [4]. I've uploaded 50 so far, and upload do another 50 in half an hour. There are a lot of ships in this collection of images. Over 3,000 and plenty more to come. They are being categorised into Category:Ships in Queensland, however a very high percentage of them are not Ships in Queensland. We'll need to sub-categorise and re-categorise the ones we can. camera direction[edit]

Duplicate image[edit]

Not sure if this is the right place to bring it, but though here's a good starting point as it may need to be updated at SLQ as well as here. File:StateLibQld 1 85180 Brisbane (ship).jpg and File:StateLibQld 1 162623 Melbourne (ship).jpg depict exactly the same scene. However, the former identifies the Town class cruiser as HMAS Brisbane, while the latter identifies as HMAS Melbourne, another Town class ship of the Royal Australian Navy. I don't know enough to identify which ship is the one in the image. Does anyone know how to proceed from here? -- saberwyn 04:57, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Focusing on Women in April[edit]

I've reun the re-categorisation bot over Category:Women's clothing, moving the images to Category:Women's clothing of Australia. There are nearly 800 images in that Category, with many more to come.

Otter[edit]

Bot adding obsolete categories[edit]

Post 1955 images - public domain status[edit]

Just a note for anyone who visits this page that I have started a deletion request about SLQ photographs marked as PD-Australia that were taken after 1 January 1955. This is not intended to be adversarial, SLQ staff have previously investigated the copyright status of other images and removed them from the batch. Baldwin locomotives, class B14[edit]

Someone left a note on Commons:State_Library_of_Queensland/Subjects/L that there is no B14 class of Baldwin locomotives. There was an issue surrounding File:Ian Charlton.ogg which now seems resolved. The file has been undeleted and tagged with the relevant OTRS template. New Zealand Ships masquerading as Australian ships[edit]

You have a very large number of images of our ships marked as Australian. I GUESS this has happened because someone has died and left you an enormous collection of images of (to an Australian) uncertain location and no more than a ship name for identity. The job just in Wikimedia is too big for me to fix. If the ship has a Maori name it is unlikely to be Australian (then it would be renamed something like Warrimoo instead of Waikikamukau).

Maybe we should just all be happy that you have those images and are preserving them and giving us access and leave it at that. Regards, Eddaido (talk) 11:54, 5 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
