FYI, I have re-nominated for deletion File:ODU Quad.JPG. You previously closed Commons:Deletion requests/File:ODU Quad.JPG. The deletion discussion focused on the irrelevant question of a watermark, rather than the actual question of who made the image or what it is. The image is an architectural drawing of planned buildings that did not yet exist. There is no evidence that the uploader works for or represents the architect. --B (talk) 14:24, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

Flag of San Marino

Dear Zscout370. A while back ago, you modified the flag of San Marino to match the Pantone shades specified in some legal document. Then you changed it again, because now you used an official Pantone to RGB converter. However, when I used that very same converter, I noticed that the specified Pantone shade (2915 C), was said to be 62B5E5 in Hexadecimal, unlike the shade used in the current file, 5eb6e4. I am just curious, how did this happen? Is it something that I should correct? – VulpesVulpes42 (talk) 18:18, 25 July 2016 (UTC)

I noticed Pantone changed all of their RGB values, but only so slightly. The legal document does not, unfortunately, contain any RGB information for us to use. I would honestly say leave it be unless other national flag values are changing as well. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 07:32, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Hero of Belarus medal (vector).png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Italian flag 2003 to 2006

Hi,

regarding the question of the Italian flag's exact colours between 2003 and 2006 I'd like to ask you how you came up with the shades used in that flag variant. Using the hexidecimal RGB codes provided by Pantone.com and the information available at Wikipedia and FOTW, "my" Italian flag of that era looks like that, which is similar, but not exactly the same as in this version, also provided by you.

I also realized that our File:Flag of Italy.svg uses other shades than Pantone.com indicates for the codes that seem to be the official ones. I wondered if you could explain why. Thanks in advance, → «« Man77 »» [de] 12:04, 27 March 2017 (UTC)

For the RGB, I used a graphic manual from a government ministry that used the RGB (websafe mind you) for the Pantone shades. I do not have that file anymore. We had to provide a websafe model as well as the real Pantone shades, mostly as a compromise. I have no objections for the change of the colors. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 08:04, 1 April 2017 (UTC)
Hi again, sorry for answering quite late. I assume you are fine with my idea to use the RGB shades provided by Pantone.com (example). As we are talking about changes that affect pretty many pages in the entire project, I'd like to ask you which procedure you would recommend.
For the 2003 to 2006 flag: Would you take File:Flag of Italy (Pantone, 2003).svg or File:Flag of Italy (2003-2006).svg as our "official" file for that time and "allow" me to overwrite one of these two files with the colours in "my" flag. Or would it be better to use a separate file and keep the others as they are?
For File:Flag of Italy.svg: I realized that there have already been debates regarding the shades on the talk page, but they stopped quite a while ago. Should I try to restart the debate?
A completely different question: Could it be that Pantone.com changed the RGB equivalents for its colour codes somewhere between 2007 and 2017?
Thanks for your time, and best regards, → «« Man77 »» [de] 07:42, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
Yes I am fine with the first part of merging the files and I would suggest the rename as well, as you pointed out. For the debates, go ahead and restart it. I am getting married in two week so for pretty much until early June, I am going to be gone dealing with that and the vacations and name changes. And yes, the values did change (almost hard to notice, but the devil is in the details). User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 08:26, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
Alright, in this case I'd like to wish you the very best :) → «« Man77 »» [de] 08:59, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

Jcb (talk) 22:03, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

I didn't notice you had already uploaded your file, but it looks like these differ a little bit in terms of shading (and file size).

The people behind the flag posted the exact RGB values in on of their Facebook posts, can you remember which version you used? I can see that the description page you created lists correct RGB values for the flag, but the actual file source uses different values, ie. instead of and instead of , for some reason. Do you have any suggestions as to how we should go about this conflict? (Which, admittely, is my fault for not properly checking Commons, although I had a look at the article on vegetarian and vegan symbolism and Category:Veganism and didn't notice your file there.)

P.S. I really liked how you added the table for the colours at the end of {{Information}}, so much so that I shamelessly stole it :-) odder (talk) 00:04, 13 November 2017 (UTC)

As for the code, I am pretty flexible on it. Some people know their way around XML more than I am, so I am not to picky on that. As long as we match the specs given on the website, that is my goal. As for the colors, I went with the Pantone shades and used https://www.pantone.com/color-finder/354-C and https://www.pantone.com/color-finder/3005-C for ths shades. This is mostly because I wanted to be consistent with the colors used. I would say since the designer used all forms and you went with the RGB (I believe those shades are web-safe). Of note, I am in the Facebook group and I have been working with them on protocol, so that is how I am initially involved with the image and flag. I would also say feel free to email me because I rarely check here. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 10:05, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
Yes, the RGB values are supposed to be web-safe (RGB is, after all, screen-based, unlike Pantone). I suppose my question wasn't direct enough: do you think we should keep both files as they are now—like we do with some other contentious flag files, although I don't see what would be the controversy here—or should one of them be deleted, and if so, which one? Red Army battle flag image

Hello, I noticed that you created File:Soviet Znamya Pobedy.svg years ago, so you have the knowledge to do this. If you are able, could you create a similar image (in color) that looks like this or this, or this except that the text of the unit name (bottom lettering) reads '4 ВОЗДУШНО - ДЕСАНТНАЯ ГВАРДЕИСКАЯ ДИВИЗИЯ'. As shown [1] here and in the flag here, the '4' should be the size of the two columns of text to its right, ВОЗДУШНО - ДЕСАНТНАЯ is the top line and ГВАРДЕИСКАЯ ДИВИЗИЯ is the second line. I am asking this because I would like a public domain image of the battle flag for the infobox of 4th Guards Airborne Division and similar units, while if I used an existing image it would need a shaky fair use rationale. Thanks, Kges1901 (talk) 21:51, 5 July 2018 (UTC)

Exact Shade of Red on Austria's Flag

Hi, in a previous version of the Austrian flag you uploaded a version with the comment "http://www.bmlv.gv.at/abzeichen/hoheit/abschnitt_1.shtml says use Pantone 032". But the shade that is used in that file is different from Pantone 032C on Pantone color picker. And since we used the official Pantone website for other flags(i.e Scotland) I think it's better to use #ef3340 for 032C instead. And since the Pnatone color picker is now premium I suggest using this because it's the same as pantone.com(I've checked with the flags). Best regards. Kamran.nef (talk) 13:14, 7 November 2021 (UTC)

I would rather use the official pantone website, since we have the ability to either see source code for the hexadecimal or screenshot and get the colors shade via paint or another program. (Me logged out) — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.178.177.92 (talk) 15:14, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
If you have access to it and its features it is great. I just suggested the other site because Pantone wasn't free. Regardless the Pantone 032C is #ef3340 in both websites, But the current file uses #ed2939. I've uploaded a Pantone version back when PantoneColorPicker was free, And it too is #ef3340. You can check the upload date. I've taken a screenshot and checked with Inkscape it also says #ef3340. Kamran.nef (talk) 19:05, 7 November 2021 (UTC)

Question about the flag of Fukushima Prefecture

Hello! Sorry for bothering you, but I am adding some information to the Swedish Wikipedia about Japanese prefectural symbols, and would like to ask you to clarify something. I have for the most part been using the FOTW website as my source, but sometimes, I cannot discern the exact intended meanings of its entries, due to me not being a native English speaker. Therefore, I was hoping that you could expound on the following:
In 1998, Mr. Nozomi Kariyasu wrote the following: "White stylized Hiragana character of Fu (ふ) of Fukushima on orange colour which represents friendship, unity and steady progress." In 2015, he wrote: "The orange flag has white prefecture emblem towards hoist which represents unlimited progress of the prefecture. The orange color stands for love and hope." I get that the emblem represents "unlimited progress of the prefecture", and that the orange color stands for "love and hope". What I am unsure of is the "which represents friendship, unity and steady progress" part. What part of the flag is that clause describing?

  1. The emblem?
  2. The orange color?
  3. The flag as a whole?

I apologize for my verbosity; please disregard my request if you do not have the time for it. Cordially, VulpesVulpes42 (talk) 12:15, 16 February 2022 (UTC)

I happen to be friends with Mr. Kariyasu and the editor of the Japanese pages, so I can help you with that. So the emblem design was what was referencing the statement of friendship, unity and steady progress. The explanation of the symbol was found in their symbol and flag law. I'm away from desktop so I'll have to give you the link later. The orange color as a whole doesn't have symbolism as far as I know. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.178.177.92 (talk) 09:04, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for your insights, they have been rather helpful indeed. Sincerely, VulpesVulpes42 (talk) 18:17, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
The link to the law can be seen at https://krk400.legal-square.com/HAS-Shohin/jsp/SVDocumentView#e000000008. If you also need to find laws, the term you need is 例規 followed by the area you are searching for (福島県 例規 for example). And usually your flag laws are in the first sections of the law books.
