Chapeau lapon[edit]

Hi

What do mean by background ? Background story, or the real background of the picture ?

Pleclown (talk) 18:40, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, background story I meant. Where the hat's from, etc? -Yupik (talk) 19:02, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's a traditional lapp hat my father brought me from Finland. Pleclown (talk) 12:07, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks! -Yupik (talk) 15:34, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Image problem[edit]

Done. When I'll get some time, I'll also look at the file usage and make some fixes there. Kruusamägi (talk) 13:53, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2017 is open![edit]

You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2017 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in R2.

Dear Yupik,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2017 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the twelfth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2017) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top 2 from each sub-category.

In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.

Round 2 will end on 22 July 2018, 23:59 UTC.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 11:33, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

File:Petsamo Memorial in Ivalo (7180286605).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hi, Why not naming the category more descriptively: Äʹvv Skolt Saami museum (or better in Sámi Äʹvv Saaʹmi Muʹzei). Michael.riessler (talk) 08:16, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I decided to keep it as Äʹvv so that way there wouldn't be any conflicts as to what language the rest of it would have to be in. For a long time, it was in German, of all languages. -Yupik (talk) 13:31, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrolled rights given[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. - FitIndia Talk Mail 05:41, 16 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Add the Saami languages to Commons[edit]

Yupik, If you are interested I can help you setting up support for additional languages at many of the Commons templates. --Jarekt (talk) 20:08, 3 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pay attention to copyright

If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. Category:Queer Sport Split[edit]

Hi, i've added some more pics to the category but unfortunately i don't speak Croatian. Can you or someone else help me with the picture titles and descriptions? --Trade (talk) 22:19, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

SVG Translate[edit]

Instead of creating separate translations for a file such as File:Uusimaa SOTE.svg‎, you can use SVG Translate. It will add the translations to the existing file. The corresponding language (if available) will display when the file is included on a Wikipedia page.

Glrx (talk) 20:44, 15 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I use that when the languages exist as a user interface language on browsers, OSs, etc. Unfortunately, these languages do not, so users do not always see what they are supposed to in spite of using the lang=<lang"> and may not know that a version in their language exists that they can then see. The situation is even worse when they are set up for multiple languages, which is common around here with the majority languages. I won't even mention the incubator... -Yupik (talk) 20:51, 15 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Photograps by date[edit]

Hello! When you date-categorize photographs: The safest thing is to use the template taken on, like this: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File%3AÄʹvv_Entrance%2C_Skoltsamischen_Museum_in_Neiden.jpg&diff=798666022&oldid=639676538 Then the image is categorized by the date from the camera internal clock, wich you also find in the metadata. Of course, that date could be set completely wrong (2040?ehh...), but considering the upload date, I think in this case it is correct…Anders (talk) 16:45, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hej!
Mvh Anders (talk) 18:03, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
