"Hollywood Hungama"

The usefulness of many images that you upload appears to be compromised by watermarks... AnonMoos (talk) 15:00, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The watermarks can be removed (people do it regularly for these specific set of images -- I'm just not a photoshopper), but the main reason I'm uploading these images is because every day I have to either delete/tag a few such images on en.wiki/here as many new users don't see a choice for images and upload copyvios. This way I'm hoping that they just change to their favorite one! Bollywood images are the highest copyvio image section for India related stuff. cheers. I greatly appreciate your cautious approach in using {{Out of scope}} tag rather than going for straight deletion request. However, if you check other files in the category, it certainly falls within the scope. Hindustanilanguage (talk) 07:36, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, you do not understand the scope of Commons, you have just created jpeg text boxes and uploaded them. THen you've uploaded some random video and linked it to the Indian Navy page on Wikipedia. Sorry, but this is getting very tiresome. —SpacemanSpiff 09:50, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Although I agree that may be some (BUT NOT ALL) of my uploads might have been or appear

to be offtrack, I fail to comprehend why you are bent undermining others contributions even though you have found to upload images with water marks. Just to highlight how some of my uploads which are used in Wiki Projects (by other users), I give you two examples:

Please see reason and adopt an acceptable and polite language. Hindustanilanguage (talk) 08:57, 30 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. A reply about the video is posted on my talkpage. Hindustanilanguage (talk) 08:57, 30 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but because you upload a few good images it doesn't give you license to upload junk and keep adding them to articles. I've been polite to you, but you don't seem to understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia and not a repository for personal images and videos. —SpacemanSpiff 09:01, 30 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If something is really junk, it has to be cleaned. The very fact that most my uploads are still in tact is a proof that you are wrong. In fact, Ladies Toilet Signboard in Hindi is also part of a signboard and not some text converted image. I never uploaded any marriage certificate, honeymoon pictures, etc, the kind of stuff you supported in the case of Ruby Lalith Kolhe. Most of her uploads were deleted. All images which I uploaded have some academic orientation. And in spite of all this if you call me "You treat Commons as your Flickr Account", you are "riding on a high horse" and what not. I am sick of this approach of yours and would not like to enter into unhealthy debate in which you are pointing an unjustified accusing finger merely by abusing your "admin" status. Hindustanilanguage (talk) 06:30, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but you are just wasting my time here. Please just keep your discussions to the relevant deletion discussions pages. I have no interest in continuing to discuss anything with you, especially given that every image of yours that I have nominated for deletion so far have been deleted. And, there's not a single image that "I have supported" of honeymoon pictures etc, so please don't bring any nonsense here. —SpacemanSpiff 06:37, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you use the helper-the scripts, you will find the links next to the search box (vector) or as single tabs (monobook). They are named license+ and license-

Hi SpacemanSpiff, thanks for your application to be an image reviewer. The application has been removed as successful, and you've been added to the list of reviewers. You can review all kind of image licenses on Commons. Please see Commons:License review and Commons:Flickr files if you haven't done so already. Backlogs include Flickr review, Picasa review, Panoramio review, and files from other sources. You can use one of the following scripts by adding one of the lines to your common.js:

importScript('User:ZooFari/licensereviewer.js'); // stable script for reviewing images from any kind of source OR
importScript('User:Rillke/LicenseReview.js'); // contains also user notification when review fails, auto blacklist-check and auto-thank you message for Flickr-reviews.

Deletion of files

Hello, recently, my files are getting deletion tag. I am strictly not going to give any justification or reason why it should not get deleted. Because i do not know what warranty you have to give when you upload those images , which are taken by digital camera. Meanwhile what license is too choose. I am of course ready to send all 106 image files,i've taken at BKC(Bandra-Kurla Complex) bike exhibition, in Mumbai. Admins have a right to delete whatever they feel( here don't feel any personal attacks) but i think they do not or dislike to appreciate or value your kind contribution. In short, there will not be any "please don't delete" request will be made further, cos i am fed up and tired. At last I apologies for my rude and angry behavior. Thank You and Best of luck Majorcaptain (talk) 09:56, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SpacemanSpiff, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Category

Hi, Spacemanspiff !! Can the Category:Kangana Ranaut be moved to "Category:Kangna Ranaut" ?? Because there is some trouble in linking the category from its Wikipedia article Kangna Ranaut. Question regaurding the no permission tags on the uploads by User:Lavesh777

I am trying to process an email sent by the user to OTRS (ticket:2012080810003034). The user's uploads are all under a claim of own work and I am woundering what evidence I should be looking for in the permission email. Thank you for your time, MorganKevinJ(talk) 23:01, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The problem with these uploads is that he's claiming "own work" for images from 1950 to 2011 which is a rather long given that he's the son of a 73 year old person who was married in 1966! However, the bigger problem is many of these are governmental event photographs (and for e.g., in India at these formal events with the President, personal cameras and photographers aren't allowed), so these are likely photographs that he has in his possession that were provided by the concerned departments, at least the ones in official settings. The ones that are at the Netherlands-India events could be from the staff photographer of the group, which means we'd need a release from the group. Hope this helps. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 02:54, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Copyrights clarification

I just wanted to clarify my understanding of copyrights. Per Public_domain#India, all films released in 1951 are currently (in 2012) in public domain. Right? So all screenshots of these can be added here under {{PD-India}}. But they aren't under Public Domain in USA. Hence we can't actually have those images here. Right? §§AnimeshKulkarni (talk) 14:51, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Actors/Actresses from India

Hello,

I come back to explain my PoV. I found a good example to back up my argument. How would you classify Aparnaa Bajpai? She is born in Kanpur, schooled in Chandigarh, went to college in Delhi, and done Tamil and Telugu movies. Puting her in a state category does not make sense.

On the languages side, do you agree to rename the categories for Kannada, Tamil and Telugu, adding "film"? i.e. "Tamil actresses" -> "Tamil film actresses". I am surprised that there is no Bengali category. Any reason? Regards, Yann (talk) 06:51, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The thing is that Bollywood=Hindi film, so my opinion is that they need to be under that category. An extreme example is Category:Hazel Keech or Category:Amy Jackson, both Bollywood actresses, but not actress from India, so categorizing Bollywood actresses as Actresses from India is not right. That said, I would actually suggest renaming Category:Hindi film actors/actresses to Category:Bollywood actors/actresses as that would follow the common name (although I know we don't say "Hollywood actor/actress", but I think this is a slightly different case in that Bollywood is the better known term). Our en.wiki article on the film industry is titled en:Bollywood althouhg the category tree there is a bit odd.
On the point about adding the "film" inbetween the state and actor/actress, I think it's necessary because we are slowly starting to get images for stage actors/actresses as well as television actors/actresses. I've created a few categories for those (mostly Roland zh is the one who does these and I just follow what he does when I see a few images that can be categorized in that manner). As far as Aparnaa Bajpai goes, we would actually add all three categories if they exist: Actresses from Uttar Pradesh, Actresses from Chandigarh, and Actresses from Delhi for the location and Tamil film actresses, Telugu film actresses for the film industry. See Category:Waheeda_Rehman for an example of how two locations is handled as she lives in MUmbai but was born and brought up in Tamil Nadu. As far as the non-existence of categories, it's mostly because there's still a lot of categorizing to do, Bengali though needs one soon (but we have Category:Actresses from West Bengal). Here it's a little different as "Bengali film actresses" will include people from India and Bangladesh unlike the former which is only for actresses from the state (many of whom have not acted in Bengali films but only in Tamil/Telugu/Hindi). I think there are only three of us who create these categories now (Roland zh, Sreejith and myself), so there's a delay in going through all this (and I took a break from it because suddenly we had another 3000 or so unreviewed images of these film actors/actresses from BollywoodHungama and FilmiTadka) cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 07:24, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I agree with you that categorizing Bollywood actresses as Actresses from India is not right. That's not what I do. And I am not sure renaming the Categories "Hindi film actors/actresses" to "Bollywood film actors/actresses" is right. It seems that Bollywood produces films in more than one language, i.e. also in Gujarati, Marathi, etc. About the language categories, "Tamil actresses‎" suggest that it is a category of actresses speaking Tamil. Also comparing with USA, we don't put American actors/actresses in categories by states, i.e. "actresses from Michigan", "actors from California". So we should apply the same system for India. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:21, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I finished removing all images from Category:Actresses from India, and creating 40+ individual categories, except a few when there is no article on English Wikipedia. Yann (talk) 13:29, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like your opinion about Indian actresses: should we add Category:Hindi film actresses if the actress has done only TV serials?

I think we need to start a WikiProject India on Commons. What do you think? Best regards, Yann (talk) 12:00, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Should we use Category:Language film(/television) actors(/actresses) format? §§AnimeshKulkarni (talk) 10:08, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Spaceman. I'm thinking of nominating you for administrator here. Please tell me whether you agree or not. Have a good day Morning Sunshine (talk) 03:21, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for your confidence in me, but there are two main problems. The first is that I do not work in areas outside of India related images and my copyright knowledge for many source countries is quite lacking. The second is that at present, I'm a rather sporadic contributor who works in bursts of a few days. While the first issue may reasonably be overlooked as I don't intend to work in those areas, I think the Commons community expects admins to be more "regular" than I am or will be in the near future. Therefore, I must respectfully decline, with thanks, at present. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 05:11, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of B S Ramiah.jpg

Hi, Can you let me know the exact reason for the deletion of the B.S.Ramiah photo? Ramiah's son happens to be a school-mate of my father's and this photo was procured over email for Wikipedia. Obviously, I left out some important detail while uploading the photo since I am quite new to Wikipedia and Commons - I'd appreciate any clarification. Thanks! I mean File:B.S.Ramaiah.jpg, forgot to add it the first time, sorry!Arunasank (talk) 19:21, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Arunasank, the photograph was available in much higher resolution elsewhere on the internet and you had marked it as own work, so that is sort of conflicting and typically such images are deleted as copyvios. Typically the copyright for the photograph rests with the photographer, however, in this case if the owner of the copyright is the family, then please have the owner of the copyright send an email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org using the template listed at COM:OTRS, they will get a reply to that email with a ticket number, have them forward that email to you, and you can re-upload the image including that ticket with the template: {{PermissionOTRS}}. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 19:23, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Classical music files from Compmusic

Hi again, I am really really keen on increasing the number of Indian classical music audio files on Commons, which was the main reason for raising the RTI. :) There's a really nice research project called compmusic which licenses all their audio content and lec-dems under a CC-by license. Now, they have a lot of videos on youtube which are all licensed under CC-by. I'd love to upload them all onto Commons. Was wondering if you knew - off the top of your head - an automated script that can do this? I can try and modify an existing automated script that exists for youtube, if you know of one on Commons? Arunasank (talk) 16:24, 1 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Arunasank, I don't think there's a script for youtube videos out there. COM:Scripts would be the best place to check or ask, but I don't think this is feasible as unlike Flickr, youtube isn't usually the download model. COM:Bots might also be helpful as there's a Flickr upload bot that does the Flickr download and upload along with licensing on request. I'm less familiar with Commons than I am with en.wiki, but over there you can request for bots at en:WP:Bot requests and people evaluate the feasibility and may even create one for you if it's workable and deemed useful. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 16:49, 1 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion

Comment I will be much careful in future, let me also put forward this genuinely veritable fact that most of my uploads adhere to stipulated policy of wikimedia and do not violate any copyrights whatsoever at all, for few others, I accept responsibility for putting inappropriate license /info due to lack of knowledge , I shall voluntarily withdraw from further editing for some time & devote time to learn & train myself so that I can provide constructive contribution in future. My only humble request is, whatever administration decides, it should be based on authentic meticulous analysis and facts should be widely discussed & constructive rectifying instructions should be issued by a team .Many times due to one inadvertently made error, entire good work suffers. I wish to come back soon on wikimedia after gaining enough knowledge Bn bt ec01 (talk) 21:44, 28 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but this is beyond belief now, This is an example of random tag changing and clearly shows that you don't have a grasp of our copyright policy. —SpacemanSpiff 04:00, 29 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Indian Politician and deletion images

You might find any of the following of interest: B. P. Mandal, Mandal Commission and/or this news story. Many of the edits on those two W:pages are anonymous, some are from the uploader of these images. The dates in the article may be of some use deciding the copyright of the images. I hope this helps! You may recall there was a rather upset talk message on my page about this recently, so I did some looking around. Ellin Beltz (talk) 21:42, 7 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ellin Beltz, I do look at the articles and also the name of the uploader. Unfortunately, I've had to block a few accounts on en.wiki as impersonation accounts and it's difficult to take any of these seriously. Also, like in the earlier deletion review that you had done, the problem is that many of them confuse possession of a photo for ownership of copyright. This is actually the biggest problem we have with India related images (especially political) and then the tags keep getting changed. On the Mandal one, I had left a note on Jim's talk page as he had closed the old DR that these images are all post 1960 (most of them I think would be 1970+), a lot can actually be said from the furniture used in these government photos :) The more metal there is, the newer it is! —SpacemanSpiff 01:57, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yup! Was just offering some sources and possible source of uploader's name. I didn't mean in any way to suggest you weren't doing the right thing, merely some extra information. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 03:43, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ellin Beltz, not at all, I didn't take your post that way; I was just clarifying about the typical process I follow in these cases. Sometimes this is also why I let things slip and handle them after four years (as happened with something on en.wiki recently!) as I forget about it during my research! Often times, especially with the Indian politicians you'll find a lot of PD-Self or CC-BY tags by non-copyright owners claiming ownership while in the case of Indian actors, Indian writers etc you'll find a claim that the source has released it to PD/CC-BY. A lot of this is purely confusion and a lack of understanding. Only rarely does it become disruptive like in the earlier DR. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 04:02, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed on the licenses, we recently had a current politician "Ruby Yadev" upload pageant shots, newspapers, and a pile of various photos all claimed own work; when DN'd the claim changed to "they're all taken by my personal photographer." Unfortunately we never did get an OTRS from him. I only clarified that there was no problem because I was having one of those days yesterday and I didn't wish to be misunderstood! Cheers! your copyright violation notice about the page of artiste Shahabuddin

Hey SpacemanSpiff,

I don't understand why you noticed my picture "Shahabuddin" format jpg as a possible violation of copyright? This photo is from my computer, more specialy from our friend professional photographer Jean-Philippe Pernot. I already had this kind of discussion with french version of Shahabuddin wikipage, with french wikipedia admin. I'm her elder daughter and I just wanted to improve the page, I don't use wikipédia very often, I wanted to put more updated picture of my dad + (as your colleague Crisco1492 just send me a message too about the painting "Le Saut" wich is from my personnal collection!) The protection of my dad's privacy, particularly his paintings is my priority. That's why I prefer to download few images rather than other random pictures, by the way I neVer understood, someone from wikipédia community had put one profil picture of my dad? I don't even have this picture which was taken in Bangladesh during his trip in 2010. Anyway, As I told to french admin, those 2 pictures on his page come from my own computer. I don't know why you signaled them as a possible copy right violation? You know we live in France, and here the notion of "Violation des droits de la propriété intellectuelle" it's even more important than US law, as wikipedia deals with US Law is softer, specially from LA! So if you have any doubt about my explanations please feel free to delete those pictures, but it'll be sad because those pictures are authenticly from our familly, artist Shahabuddin's familly. You can even contact the french admin Chaoborus (you can just check to my profile - discussion page with him it's in french) Hope you'll read my message!

Chitro

The rights are owned by the professional photographer, possession on your computer doesn't necessarily mean rights. If the photographer is ready to release the rights then please have them send an email per COM:OTRS and the image can be uploaded here. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 12:10, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I also see that Crisco 1492 has given you a clearer explanation of the above at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Le Saut.jpg. If you follow the required process then we don't have to argue about deletions. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 12:14, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SpacemanSpiff, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

  1. You edited User:SpacemanSpiff/common.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
  2. Though, that change appears to introduce 4 new jshint issues — the page's status is now having ERRORS. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
  3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding {{ValidationOptOut|type=all}} to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!

Deleted image returns

Regarding Commons:Deletion requests/File:LCA Tejas.jpg, is File:LCA.jpg the same image? It was readded to the WP Tejas article with the comment "the image is the same as what was there earlier but was removed from storage". Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 15:04, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's the same, likely a sock of the earlier uploader but as I don't have access to deleted stuff here I'm pinging @INeverCry: to check on that possibility. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 15:47, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It's the same image. First uploaded in July 2011 by Rinju9 and today by Anuj.direct.new. With that length of time in between uploads, they probably lost or forgot their earlier password. INeverCry 18:23, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

License reviews of carnatic music obtained by request

Hi, I have started writing to artists asking for music for Wikimedia Commons, and Ramakrishnan Murthy agreed to contribute his recordings. I am not sure of how exactly to specify the source on Commons. This is the file: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Evvare_Ramayya_Nee_Sari-Gangeyabhushani-Adi-Tyagaraja~Ramakrishnan_Murthy-R_K_Shriramkumar-K_Arun_Prakash.wav. Arunasank, you can have the sources send an email per COM:OTRS mentioning the file name/link on here. That should provide long term clarity reg copyright status. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 07:00, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Request for couple of license reviews & uploads

Hello, SpacemanSpiff. This/This pic is clearly the uploader's own work and, from its license, it seems fine for its upload here. Then again, I hardly know anything about copyrights. So, can you check its license? If its suitable for upload & modification, then please upload it. And crop it from the sides, along with lightening it a bit. If you can do that much then it can be used for the infobox of Saina Nehwal. That article has already been viewed over 1.3 million times this year. So, I guess a pic would be nice.

Similarly, if you can upload an HD screenshot of the final moment of Sushil Kumar (wrestler) - who appears at 0:35 - from this video, then that could be used for his infobox. BTW, this YouTube video's license is same as that of this one. - NitinMlk (talk) 20:14, 4 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

NitinMlk: The flickr image won't work as it's licensed as non-commercial. As far as the video goes, I think that should be ok as it's a verified youtube account and the license compatible (but you may want to check with someone with a better understanding of telecast rights as obviously Ten sports isn't the one that did the videography, they just rebroadcast it). —SpacemanSpiff 10:23, 5 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
SpacemanSpiff, thanks for the clarification. And sorry to waste your time, but here are four more questions for you:
a) Can the above flickr pic of Saina be uploaded with the relevant modifications at the English Wikipedia (for one-off use at her article)? If yes, can you upload it there?
b) In case of Sushil Kumar's screenshot, with whom should I consult the license of the above YouTube video? I think that INeverCry can easily clarify it. BTW, as Ten Sports released the video for reuse, isn't the burden of proof lies on them now?
c) I have seen zillions of pics from Bollywood Hungama being uploaded here. And they have same copyright license like this pic of Saina, e.g. File:Ajit Agarkar.jpg. So, can this pic be uploaded here or at the English Wikipedia?
d) Can you check the flickr license of File:Badminton player Saina Nehwal calls on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.jpg? It seems to be flickrwashed, as five days earlier to its upload at the flickr, it appeared here. And it seems to be copyrighted to the Press Trust of India (PTI). - NitinMlk (talk) 21:39, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The Flickr image of Saina Nehwal is under a non-commercial/non-derivative license at Flickr, so it can't be uploaded to Commons (files have to allow commercial and derivative use to be hosted here). She's still alive, so it can't be uploaded under fair use to en.wiki either. The Sushil Kumar video screencap is fine since the YouTube source video is under a free license. The Bollywoodhungama pic of Saina looks OK for uploading to Commons, but I don't deal with BWH images hardly ever, so I could be mistaken. The Modi pic was posted to Flick a few days after the article post, but it may not be Flickrwashing, considering this is the official account of Modi. You could file a deletion request and see what others think. lNeverCry 23:12, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@INeverCry: Thanks for the clarification. I will file deletion request of Modi's pic - just to clear the doubt. And I will ask Dharmadhyaksha regarding the BWH image, as I have seen many BWH pics reviewed by him. - NitinMlk (talk) 23:23, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

On what basis & merit has the files which were already in public domain as per Indian Copyright Act have been deliberately deleted? If a picture is already in public domain since its copyright has expired and can be reused freely, how the contributions made by me over last 4 years deleted entirety, some of which were credibly in public domain? In reason it is written, found higher resolution, pls provide link of any such higher resolution picture! 182.66.66.53 04:17, 30 September 2015 (UTC) Bn bt ec01[reply]

Hello SpacemanSpiff,

I understand that some of my images are been removed. I had uploaded many images which I had taken from my camera. May be few images I would have put different CC licence. You can help me on that. Kautuk1 (talk) 10:16, 17 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please stop, how the hell do you expect us to believe that you clicked a picture that is actually a still from a 1979 film? And then claiming that it should be in a different license is just plain arrogant. I'm sorry, but unless you start respecting the intellectual property of others I can't help you. —SpacemanSpiff 11:13, 17 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
