Hello, Shustov!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

All images except the last one have been categorized. The last image is erroneous and should be deleted but I do not know how. Can anybody help me, please? Thanks, Shustov (talk) 06:54, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
 • Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
 • State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
 • If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
 • Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
 • Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.

It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.

Thank you.

Upstream fitness[edit]

Hi Shustov. Why are you categorizing under category:Upstream fitness ancient sculptures which have nothing to do with upstream fitness, whatever this may be? Also, this cat description looks a bit too much like advertising. "Upstream fitness" does not yield significant hits on Google except for what I assume is your own webpage, http://www.ecs.csun.edu/~shustov/Upstream_Fitness.htm. Please note that the Commons should not be used for self-promotion. Jastrow (Λέγετε) 09:47, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Justrow. In this category, the ancient sculptures play the role of the male fitness standards established by the ancient Greek and Roman Gods and heroes. I know little about "significant hits on Google" but most of the images from the Category:Upstream fitness have been used in Wikipedia articles; see, e.g., w:ru:Приседания, w:el:Αθλητισμός, w:es:Equilibriocepción, w:pt:Aptidão física. Best, Shustov (talk) 23:08, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The pictures themselves are very useful, but I have some doubt about the usefulness of the category. Concerning Greek and Roman statues, I understand what you mean, buy fitness is not necessarily "upstream fitness". And say I add category:Proper bowels function to every picture depicting a healthy person? Jastrow (Λέγετε) 08:23, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As you said, the fitness is not necessarily "upstream fitness". The last one has some specific features, namely: it targets, primarily, a human body physical performance (not a person's weight, its look or anything of the kind) and it fits, mostly, mature or aged individuals. The non-sculptural images in Upstream fitness have a dual value. On one hand, they depict rather ordinary sportive exercises and may be included in a number of related categories; on the other hand, those exercises are, to some extent, unique as been performed by a senior over 65 and, therefore, should be attributed just to Upstream fitness. Shustov (talk) 20:28, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As it appears that Jastrow's concerns have not been resolved, I have nominated the category for deletion. TenOfAllTrades (talk) 02:58, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Category discussion notification Category:Upstream fitness has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.
In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Alleged misbehavior by TenOfAllTrades[edit]

File:UPSTREAM FITNESS-4.jpg
A senior citizen in trying to slow down his process of aging by physical fitness exercises
Exercise programs such as Tai Chi are promoted by gerontologists to improve health in old age.

Case 1. At 08:01, 24 December 2008, User:Shustov added the left image from Categories: Gerontology | Fitness | Fitness training for seniors to the article Gerontology.

At 14:59, 5 November 2009, TenOfAllTrades removed the image with the inscription “rv banned editor”.

In less than an hour, at 15:46, 5 November 2009, User:Zach425 substituted the removed image with the one to the right from Category: Tai Chi Chuan.

As the matter of fact, the Wikipedia List of banned users [1] does not contain User:Shustov in it.

Due to foregoing, it looks like TenOfAllTrades created its private blacklist which, apparently, has been implemented in Wikipedia rather successfully (see the cases to follow).

File:UPSTREAM FITNESS.jpg
Snapshot of a 65-year old elderly person practicing some special fitness technique
Physical fitness is an attribute required for service in virtually all military forces.

Case 2. At 20:06, 18 December 2008, User:Shustov added the left image from Categories: Gerontology | Fitness | Fitness training for seniors to the article Physical fitness.

At 13:59, 4 January 2009, TenOfAllTrades removed it with the summary “remove excess decorative image” but retained another image from Categories: 2000s swimwear | People of the United States Marine Corps | Sportspeople from the United States | Triathlon | Young men | Men of the United States | Male toplessness | Running shown to the right.

As the only image option for the article on physical fitness, it rather glorifies the United States Marine Corps special military training in general and Lance Corporal Anthony M. Madonia toplessness in particular than illustrates anything else.

Case 3. At 17:53, 19 December 2008, User:Shustov added the left image above from Categories: Exercise | Challenges to physical balance | Gerontology | Fitness | Fitness training for seniors to the article Vestibular system. At 03:32, 19 October 2009, TenOfAllTrades removed the image as “superfluous decorative image (?!)

Case 4. At 00:49, 24 December 2008, User:Shustov added the image on the left of an old man practicing weight training from Categories: Weight training | Gerontology | Fitness | Fitness training for seniors to the article Weight training.

At 03:34, 19 October 2009, TenOfAllTrades removed it as “superfluous, promotional image”.

The “promotional” of what, by the way? Does it promote any services or goods? Does it contains any names of people or businesses?

Case 5. At 20:37, 28 May 2009, User:69.108.101.89 added the right image from Categories: Exercise | Challenges to physical balance | Gerontology | Fitness | Fitness training for seniors to the article Longevity.

At 22:00, 28 May 2009, TenOfAllTrades removed the image without explanation.

Case 6. At 01:56, 24 December 2008, User:Shustov added the left image from Categories: Exercise | Acrobatics | Gerontology | Fitness | Fitness training for seniors to the article Jumping.

At 00:51, 4 September 2009, User:Mokele performed “Replacing image with much better one, illustrating frog joint addition and bone elongation”. Apropos, the “much better” in the sense of what? The taste?

File:UPSTREAM FITNESS-3.jpg

Case 7. At 22:46, 27 December 2008, User:Shustov added the right image from Categories: Exercise | Acrobatics | Gerontology | Fitness | Asana | Fitness training for seniors to the article Equipoise .

At 03:28, 19 October 2009, TenOfAllTrades removed the image as “decorative, promotional image” (?!).

At 18:38, 24 October 2009, User:79.67.66.242 undid the previous edit.

At 18:55, 24 October 2009, User:DMacks removed the image again.

At 16:45, 29 October 2009, User:69.108.112.170 restored that image.

At 16:57, 29 October 2009, TenOfAllTrades reverted edits by User:69.108.112.170.

At 01:48, 3 November 2009, User:ExplosiveArsenal reverted edits by TenOfAllTrades.

At 01:49, 3 November 2009, User:Glane23 (apparently, a sock-puppet of TenOfAllTrades) reverted edits by User:ExplosiveArsenal.

Will anybody help me to cleanup those articles, please? Thanks, Shustov (talk) 23:06, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Withdraw your personal attacks[edit]

Wikimedia Commons is not a platform from which you can engage in misguided, factually-inaccurate personal attacks on other editors. Please withdraw the accusations, misstatements, and insults which you have posted here and on Category talk:Fitness training for seniors, or I will ask for you to be sanctioned here as well. TenOfAllTrades (talk) 02:50, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you mean my above topic is not accurate, please, point out what particular facts presented there you believe are not true and we will discuss them. By the way, if you wish to discuss the topic above, it would be more relevant to do it just there. Shustov (talk) 09:31, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
On enwiki, there is an excellent short essay titled You spat in my soup!. Your post above, and your response here, is an excellent example of what this essay talks about. Your claims are offensive and insulting, and throughout make wild and unsubstantiated assertions of conspiracy and sockpuppetry. I don't think it should be necessary for me to explain to you yet again that you're the inventor and sole proponent of your "Upstream Fitness" program and that your efforts to promote it across all the different language Wikipedias are unwelcome. Nor should it be necessary for me to explain again that you are banned from English Wikipedia for an ongoing pattern of disruptive behaviour and self-promotion, and that you are not permitted to edit (or worse, to edit war) to reinsert your content and pictures there, whether your are logged in or not.
The only thing that your statement above (and the duplicate post to Category talk:Fitness training for seniors, which I've already removed as inappropriate) demonstrates is your continued fantasy of persecution, your ongoing evasion of your enwiki block, and an assortment of violations of core user conduct policies: w:WP:NPA, w:WP:AGF, w:WP:CIV. These problems were explained to you at length on the English Wikipedia; you ignored the concerns and got yourself banned there. Remove or withdraw your offensive post, unless you genuinely believe that it does not violate the policies linked. If you truly can't see a problem with your message here, then my next post will be to this site's admin's noticeboard — we will have reached an impasse that requires outside intervention to resolve. TenOfAllTrades (talk) 16:44, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Let’s leave your You spat in my soup! alone. By now, you have refuted NONE of the facts presented in seven (7) cases of my comments. On the other hand, you are stating above: “…you're the inventor and sole proponent of your "Upstream Fitness" program”. Am I? Where did you find this information? Shustov (talk) 02:39, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that was an unfortunate response. I have offered a detailed explanation of the situation. Please be aware that – in the future – it is considered an essential courtesy to notify editors when you make complaints (spurious and absurd or not) about them on a noticeboard. TenOfAllTrades (talk) 00:35, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Seriously, just stop. I've asked for administrators here to review your conduct. If you wish to make a comment, please offer a concise, evidence-based statement at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems#Concerns about Shustov. TenOfAllTrades (talk) 02:20, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Revenons à nos moutons[edit]

Revenons à nos moutons (it is not a personal attack, just a French idiom; see, e.g., [4]). Namely: let’s talk about the alleged misbehavior by User:TenOfAllTrades in creating and implementing his private blacklist for Wikiwedia Commons images. If anybody wants to discuss my alleged "personal attacks", "self-promotion" or whatever, let's do it separately. Shustov (talk) 19:44, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion of this matter may be found at Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard/Vandalism#Shustov_v._TenOfAllTrades.[5] Walter Siegmund (talk) 17:22, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Shustov, you've posted above and at COM:AN/V. Please do as you've agreed and discuss this matter on the latter page. Reposting in User:TenOfAllTrades's user space after s/he removed your post and requested that you to not do so seems intended not to communicate, but provoke, since you know that TenOfAllTrades and others have read and responded to your comment. Thank you. Walter Siegmund (talk) 20:17, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Walter Siegmund: I will fallow your advice. Shustov (talk) 20:42, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shustov; allegations of bad behavior on other wikis is not a matter pertinent to Commons.[6] Consequently, further allegations of misbehavior by TenOfAllTrades, Finnrind, or other administrators on projects other than Commons, posted on Commons, may be a blocking reason here. New threads of this sort may be speedily closed. The proper forum may be m:Meta:Babel. However, I think that you would be well-advised to desist in your allegations of misbehavior and instead embrace the advice given you by Finnrind.[7] Thank you, Walter Siegmund (talk) 17:45, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Walter Siegmund: It is just you not me who renamed my initial entry as "Alleged misbehavior by TenOfAllTrades". Further, you reduced the title to "Shustov v. TenOfAllTrades" as if it were my personal attack on innocent TenOfAllTrades; see Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard/Vandalism#Shustov_v._TenOfAllTrades. Actually, my sincere intention was a fair discussion only; see [8], please. Again, it was just me who called everybody: "Let us stop pointing fingers" which was even the title of our discussion sub-section that was originated by me. Later, you changed the title for "File renaming and crosswiki image spamming". If you believe the proper forum for the "alleged vandalism by TenOfAllTrades", which is my point, and the alleged "crosswiki image spamming" by me, which is your point, may be a project other than Commons, why shouldn’t you transfer the problem to their attention? Thanks, Shustov (talk) 23:21, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry that you disagree with some of my actions. I choose not to act for you in this matter since I think that you would be well-advised to desist in your allegations of misbehavior and instead embrace the advice given you by Finnrind.[9] You've been warned to drop this matter on Commons; allegations of bad behavior on other wikis is not pertinent to Commons. Thank you, Walter Siegmund (talk) 05:11, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please do not attack other editors on your userpage. I have removed your allegation.[10] Walter Siegmund (talk) 17:00, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you in general: my userpage is actually not the best place for information like this. However, your allegedly attacked "editor" is persistently removing some of my image editing in Wikipedia after misusing his administrative privileges and disabling my ability to get engaged in a civilized discussion of the matter. I am not an attacker in this case, I am just on the defense mode. Shustov (talk) 20:15, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Do not attack editors on your userpage, and do not attack editors on your talk page or anywhere else. Your attempt to do so in your response is unfortunate and you would be well-advised to desist. Walter Siegmund (talk) 06:39, 1 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Categorization[edit]

Re: your edit to File:RRBargeSlipHeadworks.JPG.

I have no real idea whether the image belongs in Category:Earthquake engineering. I did not add that category as your edit summary suggests, I simply left it alone.

I cannot imagine, though, why you re-added the categories I removed. No individual image belongs directly in Category:Buildings by function or Category:Architecture by style (let alone putting two copies of the latter on the same photo).

I am perfectly happy with the removal of Category:Earthquake engineering, which I will leave alone, but these other categories I am removing again. - Jmabel ! talk 00:57, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am happy with you! Shustov (talk) 07:00, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Collapsed_Cathedrale_of_Port-au-Prince.jpg) and the above demanded information in your request.

In all fairness: it's not your fault. The Flickr user mistakenly licensed these as CC-BY-SA; these images of the Chilean earthquake are not his. See here, where he gives the sources. All of these are AP photos. Lupo 13:01, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I followed your link and found out in http://www.flickr.com/photos/rlinfati/4398395558/in/set-72157623408423599/ that the author rlinfati gave his permission under conditions Attribution-Share Alike 2.0 Generic. What is the problem? Shustov (talk) 18:53, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Linfati can't give permission for photos that s/he did not take and to which he does not hold the copyright. Please look at the links under "Photos taked from:" in the upper left column.[11] Walter Siegmund (talk) 20:17, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The image originally entitled "22 Residents look at a collapsed building in Concepcion" was uploaded to Flickr on March 1, 2010 by Rodrigo Linfati with the note: "Attribution-Share-Alike-Some rights reserved" (see the links above). Isn't this enough for a legitimate upload of the image to Commons? Shustov (talk) 22:47, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is photo 22 on the Boston Globe website and is identified as an AP photo.[12] Which site do you think is more credible? It is dated February 27. Rodrigo Linfati uploaded the image on March 1 and cited the Boston Globe website as the source of the photographs. No, it does not suffice that it was uploaded by Rodrigo Linfati with the note: "Attribution-Share-Alike-Some rights reserved". Please use good judgment. This image is my own work of choosing a snapshot from the US government supported research video (see http://www.youtube.com/user/neesit, "Tsunami by NEESit"). Would you mind explaining your deletion, please? Shustov (talk) 23:03, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The file was deleted by Oxam Hartog (talk · contribs).[13] It is a screen capture from near 1:14 in http://www.youtube.com/user/zairox#p/u/7/w9ygYqj4rVM. It is attributed to zairox at the website you cite. You have provided no evidence that it is a "US government supported research video".[14] Even if it were, that would not suffice. Only if it were the work of a US government employee as part of his/her duties would the result be PD-USGov. In no case does capturing an image or cropping it make it your work. Only if the resulting work contains a trivial amount of the copyrighted work may it be allowable (please see en:De minimis). Hence, the license you chose, cc-by-sa-3.0, is not correct. You may find Commons:Village_pump_archive-28#Common_Misconception helpful, also.
Most of the pictures and video that you find on the Web is not allowable on Commons. Please review COM:CB, and if you are not sure that a file is allowable, please ask at COM:VP before uploading it. This particular image was of such poor quality that it was arguably not useful, i.e., out of COM:SCOPE.
If you review this information and think that a deletion was incorrect, you may request undeletion. Walter Siegmund (talk) 00:59, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

File:Bldg 1ssss.gif[edit]

Hallo Shustov, thanks for uploading File:Bldg 1ssss.gif. I guess it is drawn by you, isn't it? At the home page you cite as source there is a higher resolution version - can you upload it here as a new file version (the link is near the bottom of the file page). Or did you intentionally only upload a low-res version here? Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 00:47, 7 November 2011 (UTC) You forgot to answer. :-) Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 02:00, 30 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for not responding earlier. You are right: I uploaded a low-res file intentionally but you can find a better one here: http://www.ecs.csun.edu/~shustov/CME_research.htm . Best! Shustov (talk) 07:35, 30 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Shustov, thanks for answering! May I know the reason for uploading a low-res here? Is it a technical reason or do you just not want to freely license the full version (which would be okay, of course)? Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 12:46, 30 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I did it. Please, see my User page. Shustov (talk) 22:12, 30 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, nice - but .. ehm..., sorry, next question: is there a need for a separate file? Usually we do not keep several versions of the same image since the bigger image can be easily adjusted in size. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 01:03, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have changed the sizes where I could but there is still the area out my reach now with the files in use listed here: http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bldg_1ssss.gif. Would you mind to perform the nessessary changes there by yourself, please? Thanks. Shustov (talk) 09:13, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
A similar area is also here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bldg_1sss.gif. Shustov (talk) 09:17, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Damn, sorry for the word, I really did not want you to replace the file links since that was totally unnecessary. We could have simply uploaded the bigger version as a new file version under the name File:Bldg 1ssss.gif. Hmm... So, sorry for the work you had now, this really wasn't intended by my question.
I have replaced (they were in simple:Template:Earthquake engineering) the remaining uses (software takes some time to refresh) now, added some info from the old file page to the new one and deleted the small duplicate. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 02:24, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion[edit]

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

 • The reason for this DR was stated by Jameslwoodward as follows: "The uploader is the subject of these images and therefore cannot be the photographer. The claim of "own work" is clearly not correct."
No way! There is a device invented about a century ago. Its name is "self-timer". According to Wikipedia, "A self-timer is a device on a camera that gives a delay between pressing the shutter release and the shutter's firing. It is most commonly used to let photographers to take a photo of themselves".
Due to foregoing, will you remove your DR, please? Thanks. ShustovVal (talk) 20:04, 6 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Watch the dates!!![edit]

On 10:29, 6 February 2015,‎ Jameslwoodward started mass deletion request for the files listed above and immediately (see [15]) announced: "This deletion debate is now closed. Please do not make any edits to this archive."

Simple question: WHAT ABOUT DISCUSSION ? ShustovVal (talk) 04:44, 8 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You missed what happened. The notice you saw was at the top of the page, relating to the prior discussion, not the new one. Because of your improper attempt to discuss that prior matter, in a closed discussion, the page had been protected by INeverCry, September 19, 2014. When Jameslwoodward filed the new request, he did not notice the protection, for, as an administrator, he could edit it anyway. What was needed here was a request to an admin to unprotect. INeverCry noticed the problem February 13 and unprotected. February 15, Ellin closed it (but failed to sign). That was a process error, because inadequate time was allowed for discussion. With respect to one file File:Pool jumping.jpg, the nomination and deletion may have been simple errors, I have requested Ellin undelete that file.
With regard to the rest, this is the "bystander selfie" issue, which is under discussion. Please be patient. This is a matter on which there is disagreement among Commons administrators, and resolving it may resolve it forever. So I'm not requesting undeletion of the "bystander selfies" yet, just studying the history of the issue and prior discussion, prepareing to seek a community resolution. --Abd (talk) 19:10, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Stop manipulating with my Talk page[edit]

All the first 26 Content items of this version of my Talk page (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Shustov) are not the items which were discussed lately, see https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:ShustovVal. What's the idea? ShustovVal (talk) 20:58, 6 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You were confused, Shustov - ShustovVal. The wiki system does not know that Shustov is ShustovVal. So nobody "manipulated" your Talk page. Rather, when there was an issue with a file uploaded by Shustov, the notice was placed here, and an issue with a ShustovVal file, it was placed there. Because this was all causing confusion, ShustovVal was blocked, and you figured out how to regain access to Shustov, which is what should have been done in the first place.
There are ways to handle these problems, and simply creating a new account isn't the best one, by far. Instead of asking for help, you tried to fix the problem yourself, and in the middle of growing dispute, because of certain license difficulties.
Because you are now cooperating, it can all be fixed. Files that can be undeleted will be. Some files may require OTRS permission, we will come to that. Some files may not be proper for Commons, but you may be able to use them under a non-free rationale, at some wikis (also called a fair use rationale).
One step at a time. --Abd (talk) 19:30, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A snicky tag on my file. Why?[edit]

My file File:Pull-up on one and another.gif is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported license. All of a sudden, without receiving any notice, I found out the "no permission" tag on it saying: "there is no proof that the author agreed to license the file under the given license". Sorry, but it's beyond my understanding. What is wrong with my file? ShustovVal (talk) 18:10, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It was tagged because the uploader is User:ShustovVal and the author is User:Shustov. Since the two do not match, it is assumed that "own work" is not correct and therefore the permission is wrong. I think it is time that we put a stop to your using three accounts more or less indiscriminately against Commons policy. .     Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 11:06, 8 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Shustov, so ShustovVal was blocked, and probably autoblock caused Shustov to be temporarily blocked. An admin can fix this, but you were so busy complaining about so many things that it did not get done.
You have not said what the problem was originally with the account "Shustov," but my guess is that you had it set up with an old email, you lost your password, so you created new account(s) to handle this. Why you created two, I can't guess. You were able to recover because you were able eventually, to access your old email. Or maybe you found the password.
What has caused you so much trouble is that you have not yet understood how the wikis work. You have ideas about how it should be and then complain when it is not that way. It's easy to understand, you are from a different generation than most around here. As am I, by the way.
As an example of what you have done, I see you responding to deletion requests for "copyright violation" as if the nominator must prove the violation. You have it backwards. If violation is suspected, it is freedom from violation that must be shown to the satisfaction of the community. So when you just respond with "Prove it!" you get nowhere. Then, from some years of history of this, you now have a set of users who expect you to be putting up copyright violations. You can recover, if you start immediately. Apologize if appropriate. And be very careful. Your history of deletions can look really bad. Users are blocked for repeatedly uploading material that is deleted. It's complicated, but one step at a time. Slow down. Be careful, and Be Nice.
Deleted files can be undeleted, but you will need to know how to get that done. Argument of the "you are wrong" or "they are wrong" style doesn't work.
Be careful about uploading again something that is deleted. It can be done, possibly in this case, because otherwise there is the discrepancy pointed out by James. Ask the deleting administrator first! If you don't get a satisfactory answer do not argue. Ask for help. I am not a Commons expert, but do know my way around a wiki, and people will help you unless you create an appearance of being uncivil and only here to promote some outside agenda, etc. There is usually a way to do what you want to do, if you ask and get support. You could, in theory, do it without help, but it all gets easier if you work with the community instead of struggling with it. --Abd (talk) 21:24, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Diego. How have you been?
My understanding is that if a file is in use, it's in scope. See Commons:Project_scope#in_use, it's explicit. (There are exceptions, I do not think they apply here.)
See my request to the deleting admin. --Abd (talk) 20:43, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, there were legitimate issues raised in some of the Shustov deletion discussions, but also irrelevancies and errors, and those confused him. He's a professor (or was). So? He has uploaded exercise photos and family photos, as well as earthquake study photos an images, his field of expertise as an academic. So? And he ran square into what it turns out is a long-term dispute on Commons, unresolved, bystander selfies, which I'm researching. Legal opinion, apparently, is not that the "author" of a photograph is necessarily the one who presses the button. But there are some Commons administrators who firmly think so, and others who disagree. So maybe this should be resolved, so no more users get caught in the crossfire. --Abd (talk) 20:48, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your comment in a closed deletion discussion[edit]

[16]. I have reverted your comment because this is not how deletion is requested. Nobody will be watching that page, except a few. Rather a request should be made on Commons:Undeletion requests. That page describes how to request undeletion. It does not start with a request there. It starts with a polite and simple request to the deleting administrator, because it is far less disruptive (i.e., can waste less time) if a deleting administrator makes the decision to undelete, If you want to do this, please make your request in such a way as to be likely to succeed. What you have been doing is not likely to succeed.

You have been saying that deletions were unfair, ridiculous, or possibly stupid or biased. That never works, it simply alienates people, who were either right or made a simple mistake (or from your history have started to expect problems from you, so they don't trust you. Drop that. Do not complain! Get help!).

In this case, the argument that you could not possibly be the photographer because the photos were of you is an obvious error. So you will simply point that out without making any accusations. You will not say, "Ever heard of a selfie?" They have heard of a selfie and they have heard of timers and video cameras on a tripod, but, for some reason or other -- or no reason -- didn't think of it.

So slow down. If you run into an obstacle, do not argue, get help, your defensive instincts are not designed to handle Commons process, and you end up shooting yourself in the foot. Be careful, and, for sure, Be Nice. Okay? --Abd (talk) 21:00, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Front of the thorax and abdomen by Kagan Yalaman.jpeg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org).

Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Front of the thorax and abdomen by Kagan Yalaman.jpeg) and the above demanded information in your request.

Dear Эlcobbola: 1)Why you did not give me a possibility to respond to your message? 2)Why you so promptly (in a matter of few hours) deleted all my fitness related images without providing any reason for it? 3)What happened with Bri_on_a_fitness_ball.gif which is not included into your list above? A similar animation is presented at Work-out on a ball, by the way. 4)Why you automatically blocked my IP address or user name in Wikimedia Commons??? Sincerely, Shustov (talk) 08:27, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Эlcobbola: Why all above mentioned files have been deleted three days ago though they are apparently waiting to be discussed according to your "Notification about possible deletion" of 24 January 2017 (UTC) which is still in effect? Shustov (talk) 22:48, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Эlcobbola again: To help up with possible discussions of the files which are now deleted, similar images from Wikiversity are presented below:

DO WE NEED DOPING CONTROL?[edit]

All files listed below were taken from Notification about possible deletion by User:Эlcobbola which was published at 16:30, 24 January 2017 (UTC) “so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not”.

In exactly 9 (nine!) seconds after, namely, at 16:39 24 January 2017 (UTC), all of the files were deleted by User:Jameswoodward. MY QUESTION IS: Was that "community discussion" really so incredibly fast? Or do we need a sort of doping control? Shustov (talk) 09:32, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Accusing me of drug abuse is a serious allegation. It is entirely inappropriate. I deleted the files because they were watermarked as being created by a service that has completely unacceptable terms. The Terms of Service of the site require any user of the files that they convert to indemnify them in case of problems. This is a problem that you are well aware of, because we had the same problem with a different service the last time you uploaded similar files. .     Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 20:11, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Jim: I do not accuse you of "drug abuse", no way, but just notify you that completing the community discussion of 10 files mentioned above in a matter of nine seconds is beyond my understanding. If it were in sports, people would suspect doping as a reason. This simple! Shustov (talk) 21:46, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Shustov, I've previously warned you regarding disparaging comments about other editors. A reasonable person would only be expected to consider comments like "DO WE NEED DOPING CONTROL?" to imply that Jim was acting under the influence of "dope." To claim "I do not accuse you of 'drug abuse'" is plainly disingenuous, especially when you double down with the elaboration "If it were in sports, people would suspect doping as a reason." Accordingly, consider this a final warning regarding both your comments and repeated copyright violations. You have at least two blocked sockpuppets here (ShustovVal) and Vshustov) and this account (Shustov) is blocked on four sister projects (de.wiki, en.wiki, en.wikinews, and simple) for similar reasons. You have more than used up your leeway. Эlcobbola talk 16:06, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, Эlcobbola, with your remarks: my use of English was, obviously, not perfect, sorry! But what about this part: "In exactly 9 (nine!) seconds after, namely, at 16:39 24 January 2017 (UTC), all of the files were deleted by User:Jameswoodward. MY QUESTION IS: Was that "community discussion" really so incredibly fast?" And again: what "repeated copyright violations" in the above mentioned files you meant? Thanks, Shustov (talk) 08:36, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Shustov.

You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful.

This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions.

Yann (talk) 20:03, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What files do you mean? What "copyright violations"??? Thanks, Shustov (talk) 20:11, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!

You omitted the Descriptions of my files with the word "selfie" in them. Those Descriptions are: "Selfie of an old man of nearly 80 on his head, Hollywood and "Selfie of an old man of nearly 80 in a gym, Hollywood". They are even placed in the Category:Selfies. What's wrong then? Shustov (talk) 22:53, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
