Hello - thank you for providing images to the wikimedia commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to the commons should be useful to all users of wikimedia projects - this is possible only if the images can be found by other people. To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should either place the images on topic pages (galleries), or put the images directly into a category, or do both. Which of those possibilities is preferred is however a matter of debate, see here.

The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There is a large number of completely unsorted images on the commons right now, see Commons:Really unused. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do! Thank you. -- Duesentrieb 18:04, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hi, please add a source and description to this image. Thuresson 05:25, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for the message. It is true that User:Mattes has made several questionable uploads before. I have now asked Mattes to provide a source who can verify that the photo is PD, the Korean website it comes from claims "All rights reserved". Thuresson 17:40, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

About Image:Piazza st. peters rome 1909.jpg: I suggest you ask User:Wikibob if he/she is prepared to remove the "Incomplete license" tag from the page. FWIW, I doubt that snapshotsofthepast.com owns the copyright. For a photo that is 97 years old, it is probably very difficult to determine who the photographer was. It is also possible that Italian copyright laws do not protect photos from 1909. Regards, Thuresson 05:57, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, see my reply on Image talk:Piazza st. peters rome 1909.jpg. And it's true Italian copyright does not protect published photos more than 95 years old, but unpublished photos appear to be protected for longer. -Wikibob 18:41, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

your hugin category[edit]

Hello RI, found it interesting that you created this category. There are two things I wonder: firstly, one still can produce awful panoramas with hugin if one tries hard enough, and secondly, more important, one possibly should mention that hugin better be used in conjunction with enblend. There is some new work on vignetting which might render enblend less of a requirement, but that is still in the pipeline. --Klaus with K 17:05, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, Image:Winfield kansas 1910.jpg, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file ([[:Image:Winfield kansas 1910.jpg]]).

If you created the content yourself, enter {{Own}} as the source. If you did not add a licensing template, you must add one. You may use, for example, {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} or {{Cc-zero}} to release certain rights to your work.

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading Image:London tower england 1909.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

Unidentified Hypericum[edit]

Hi RI - thanks! Up to you, if you want to re-load it with a new name, I can delete the old one. Do you have a location for it? That might help with identifying which species of Hypericum it is (tho' it won't be easy with the leaves out of focus). If it can be identified to species, then renaming becomes more worthwhile. - MPF (talk) 12:11, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK thanks! Done - MPF (talk) 21:26, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please help replace this outdated license[edit]

Hello!

Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license {{PD}}. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding {{PD-self}} if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.

Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

The images we would like you to check are:

Location?[edit]

Hi RI - do you have a location for File:2007 vinca minor.jpg, please? Thanks! - MPF (talk) 13:08, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

File:Ferdinand hodler paul bonzon photo 1916.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Removal of uploader credit[edit]

Hello, you are being contacted as a user who has previously [or currently] included "* Uploaded by Example" in your file uploads. A bot task has been approved to remove this specific phrase from files because it can be misleading when attempting to attribute the file creator. As an alternative, RileyBot is willing to tag your uploads with a user category instead. Please respond stating if you opt-in and if you have any specific requests (addition of user category, etc); if there is no response within two weeks, consent will be implied. Please note, this message has been left by an automated bot, however, a user will be tracking your response. RileyBot (talk) 01:14, 14 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

USS Connecticut (SSN-22)[edit]

Thanks for clarifying the source of the image of USS Connecticut being attacked by the Polar bear. Otherwise, I.M.O, it might have fallen victim to any one of these officious people I see hovering around various Wikimedia sites who seem to have nothing better to do than to challenge the copyright to images they don't own, and if on a Wikimedia page, surely qualify to be used in a non-profit manner under 'Fair Use - Education' guidelines anyway.
