Hello MesserWoland,

I just wanted to let you know that user:Polarlys removed the license tags from most of user:Spanish Inquisition's coat of arms images a while back. This was then debated on various talk pages here without a real conclusion (whether coat of arms images are copyrightable and therefore licensable...). I assume Polarlys later reverted his removal of licenses and just forgot this one (I haven't checked). In any case, all those images were created by Spanish Inquisition (who might be absent right now which is why I thought to let you know in his stead).--Caranorn 11:18, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Actually I just took a quick look at some of Spanish Inquisition's images, Polarlys doesn't seem to have reverted his license removal. Neither has Spanish Inquisition or anyone else, I expect due to the fact that there was no conclusion to that debate... Note, the Luxembourg coat of arms template as used for instance in Image:Coat_of_arms_hosingen_luxbrg.png is bogus as the law mentioned in that template only applies for roughly three coats of arms and does not even consider the notion of copyright. In short, Polarlys and Rtc created a big mess with their unilateral action.--Caranorn 11:23, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I've been away so didn't get the warning message before this picture was deleted. Is there any possibility of reinstating it? The author is Joe Zachs. I haven't gotten the image saved on my computer. Like I said, it was uploaded from flickr but has since been deleted there. Since I'm not an admin, I don't have access to the deleted description, but from a flickr review log it seems I did include a valid source when uploading the picture, but may have forgotten to include the author's name. There are related pictures in category:First Communion, some of which are in the same situation (original deleted from flickr). --Ranveig 10:51, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

CAT:U deletions

I've noticed that we are getting mixed up with this stuff as time has progressed. Now we have no backlog the issue is transparent.

Today (April 10), the most recent images eligible for speedy deletion in CAT:U are those tagged on April 2 not April 3. The reason is an image tagged with it at 23:59 UTC on April 2 has not been tagged like that for 7 days until 23:59 UTC on April 10. The Bad Old Ones edit summary shows this "11:34, 10 April 2007 MesserWoland (Talk | contribs | block) deleted "Image:Amarako eskolak.JPG" (In category Unknown as of 3 April 2007; not edited for 6 days)".

As long as we have a 7 day cut-off, we should not be deleting images tagged 7 days prior imo. I'm not accusing you of bad practice, I know I have done the same before; its just I think what we do should match the rules. I'd appreciate your thoughts on this apparent confusion...--Nilfanion 12:07, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Blocking users

Hi,
I've seen that you blocked a user (Pakovandrapa) because he/she uploaded non free content (album covers). I would just like to remind you to let a message on the blocked user talk pages, so that they understand why they are blocked (even if you assume bad faith from them). You have many templates ready for such cases, in the Category:Message templates. For instance, I put {{Blocked}} on User talk:Pakovandrapa.

Kafka1 claimed these pictures to be from a close friend of him, which the exif and the resolution tends to prove. The fact is he seems to be a bit unaware of the way to fill licensing information, and he forgot to give some info, which was told to him, but you deleted the pictures too soon. :-P

May be you should restore them so he can give the lacking information.

Hmmm, I've just noticed the fact the both exifs are differents (FinePixS2Pro/Canon EOS 300D DIGITAL) which means there must have been 2 cameras (which probably means 2 photographers). That's really strange...

Well, I've warned Kafka1 (french) about the lacking information, and let a message about this fact on the French Wikipedia too. So, if Kafka1 doesn't give trustable information soon, feel free to delete these pictures.

Image of Balearic Slinger remove by mistake

Dear MesserWoland,

It appears you removed the image of a Balearic slinger on 12 April 2007 believing it was a copyvio, taken from the web page of Mr. Johnny Shumate. Mr. Shumate has offered this image to the commons in November 2006. I will send him an E-Mail asking for confirmation (again). Why did you think the information on the image was insufficient? Should I ask him to copy his e-mail to you as extra confirmation?

I agree, see discussion en:Wikipedia:Featured_picture_candidates/Balearic_slinger. It appears User:Lycaon tagged all User:Peltast2's uploads in the belief they came from [2] when it appears they were uploaded here (Nov 06) well before they were uploaded to that site (after 10 Jan 07[3]) so that could not be the source and the copy-vio notice irrelevant. Each upload here included an appropriate license and some even have an email link to the author. No reason to suspect copy-vio, should be reinstated until any evidence at all is produced that there is a problem. --Tony Wills 13:13, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Very strange behaviour

I notivced that somebody deleted my picture Image:Cremation_in_Pashupatinath.jpg. As a reason missing license information was given. This is definitely wrong. Maybe there was no license information in commons, but I didn't create the picture there. I created this picture using the correct license information within the german release of Wikipedia. Maybe during the movement by an unknown user, license information was removed, I don't know. Anyway, I am very angry concerning this stupid behaviour and as a result I refuse to add any further pictures to the commons. Rhaessner 18:40, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Image:Schwein-Ganz.svg - niestety, oryginał jest tylko na licencji GFDL. Twój rysunek tak łudząco przypomina grafikę PNG, że nie jest raczej odrębnym utworem, musi więc być na tej samej licencji. Sorka Damian, ale mam problem. Zrobiłem te mapki, co mi wysłałeś niedawno na pocztę. Jak zwykle robiłem svg w Inkscape. Obraz jak zawsze wychodzi normalnie, ale jak wprowadzam tekst to się jaja zaczynają dopiero dziać. Wszystkie teksty się po zapisaniu skupiają w jedno miejsce. Jak zapiszesz plik na dysku i go otworzysz to wszystko jest dobrze. Ja nie wiem... Już wcześniej miałem podobny problem z dzielnicami, ale ktoś (nie pamiętam już kto) zapisał w innym programie i było ok. Jak nie będziesz mógł otworzyć tych z wiki, to daj znać, a wyślę ci na pocztę moje zrobione wersje. Poprawiłem też trochę tłumaczenie png. Myślę, że znowu mogę liczyć na twoją pomoc.

The author of these photographies are considered as anonymous as they are part of a magazine published in 1916 without mentioning any credits for the photography. Wchodząc na stronę Prześlij plik (chcąc załadować moje zdjęcie) klikam, że jest ono całkowicie mojego autorstwa, wypełniam pozostałe dane (opis, datę utworzenia), a i tak coś nie gra i moje grafiki są usuwane. I was going through the FP images from this year and I noticed this image, which you uploaded claimed as your own work, was later deleted as a derivative work based on http://science.howstuffworks.com/escalator1.htm (see Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Moving sidewalk scheme.svg). Do you have any comment about this? It seems to me one of these two things has happened:

• You didn't properly credit the source for your image/didn't understand what "derivative works" means
• A perfectly legitimate image of yours was deleted.

One deleted image...

Hi, I saw a year after :) that you deleted Image:Serbian ethnic flag.svg because of duplication with one of the former flags of Serbia. However, I think that as those two flags are functionally different, they should stay separate. Also, it is possible that ethnic flag of Serbs has somewhat different red color than a former flag of Serbia (but, I don't know). --Millosh 23:27, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Why have you deleted Image:Shir Hashirim-M05 (SK).ogg (almost a year ago, sorry for the huge delay but only now I realized it is missing), and can you still undelete it after such a long time?

This is part of a series, Image:Shir Hashirim-M01 (SK).ogg etc., yet only this last file was deleted.

All 5 files were uploaded by the same user, who has recorded himself in them, and it can, IMHO, be safely assumed that he intended all 5 files to be under the same free use licenses.

Your answer will be greatly appreciated.

deprecated function in your monobook.js

Dear user, I noticed that you use the includePage function in your monobook.js page.

This function is now obsolete, as the importScript function was introduced with rev:35064 to the MediaWiki Javascript core library wikibits.js. It also keeps track of already imported files.

Dear user, the MediaWiki developers recently announced that the "Image:" namespace is going to be renamed to "File:". "Image:" will remain an alias. The canonical namespace name wgCanonicalNamespace will change from "Image" to "File".

I noticed that you use wgCanonicalNamespace in either your monobook.js page or a JavaScript file in your userspace (check this list).

Please check and replace all occurrences of

wgCanonicalNamespace == "Image"

with

wgNamespaceNumber == 6

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Rodło

Witam! Chciałem zauważyć, że symbol Rodła, który zamieściłeś nie jest oryginalnym Rodłem, ale wariacją na jego temat. W Twojej wersji Rodło wygląda jak pół swastyki, a w rzeczywistości przedstawia ono bieg Wisły więc górne ramię jest krótsze od dolnego. Inaczej ten symbol też jest nachylony. Oryginalne Rodło przypomina bardziej literę S niż pół swastyki. Proponuje zaglądnąć na strony rodziny pani Kłopockiej http://klopocki.eu/klopocki/images/rodlo1.JPG gdzie możesz sprawdzić różnice. Warto poprawić ten znak, bo w intencji twórców chyba ostatnią rzeczą było upodobnianie tego symbolu do swastyki. Pozdrawiam. User talk:Pernambuko

The Ergosphere image

Hi,

I recently noticed that the ergo-sphere image is not correct. What I mean is that rotating black holes have an ergo-sphere, which is a spheroid where objects cannot remain stationary. Rotating black holes' event horizons have a distorted spheroid as well, which in the image is shown as a circle when it should be an ellipse. Can you fix this in any way? If you can't, that's OK, but it would be nice to have it fixed.

First Order logo (Star Wars)

Hello, I've noticed that the First Order logo (from the Star Wars franchise) that you uploaded in 2016 in the First Order page is not accurate: the star should have 16 branches, not 17. I have no idea how to change pictures on Wikipedia so I hope you can put the correct picture on the page! It would be a huge help to everyone making SW costumes and props. Even official toy makers and Star Wars games have been getting the wrong logo from the Wikipedia page, unfortunately. Thank you!
