duplicate image[edit]

Hi Richard,
Image:Lion waiting in Nambia edit.jpg is not a duplicate of Image:Lion waiting in Nambia.jpg as you marked - it's an edit with significant differences. Not sure about the procedure in removing the duplicated image notice - perhaps you'd care to take do it? Thanks, --Fir0002 www 22:12, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry I do not agree! These images are identical. I don't see sufficient significant changes to consider them different. Plus the first image title does indicate it is an edit of the second. Only a single image is required for commons, otherwise there would be multiple edited images of every single image on file. Richard Harvey 21:31, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Cornwallis_Re-enactment_Coy_33rd_Regt.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Taken by myself and uploaded as PD-Art as stated when uploaded. Richard Harvey 09:45, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but can you confirm that it's actually an old painting? Just putting PD-Art on it really isn't enough of a source...--Pharos 22:03, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sort of! We know its from the early 1800's, sometime between 1806 and 1812, whilst Wellesley was a Field Marshall and Colonel of the 33rd Regiment of Foot (Later to become the 1st Battalion of The Duke of Wellington's Regiment). We don't yet know the name of the artist. Its part of the regimental museum property. However due to its age alone its now in the Public domain. I have amended the image page info accordingly. HTH Richard Harvey 21:14, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, this sort of "value-added" information is all too often skipped over in some sources. It's great to know the context.--Pharos 01:27, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image deletion warning Image:Dubbo,_Australia.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Sorry for the delation. By the way, I thought that sysops should take a look at the photos that they have to delete to save the images like yours. Anyway, you can set in your preferences to email you if you get a mex on commons (as I do :-)) so you haven't to check every two secs to be sure that nothing is deleted ^__^ Bye, --Filnik 10:56, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which information may be missing. Thank you.

This message was added automatically by Filbot, if you need some help about it, ask its master or go to the Commons:Help desk. --Filnik 16:02, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NI/Ulster business[edit]

Hey Richard, thanks for the update. Perhaps you could contribute to the discussion on the image description pages? It seems to be getting a little heated. Cheers for your perspective. ~ Riana 12:35, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think you will find that administrators on the English Wikipedia will be able to deal with this issue better on the arbitration enforcement noticeboard than on ANI, as it is higher signal and less noise. If you keep your statement reasonably brief and refer to the Troubles arbcom case, I am sure administrators there will deal with it quite quickly. Good luck - my only worry is that if they are blocked/reprimanded/etc on en they will attempt to escalate the situation on Commons, but we'll deal with it as it happens. Cheers, ~ Riana 13:23, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Two your photos[edit]

These are derivative works. The freedom of photos in theyself is not the question. The question is freedom of original colours and insignia. When were they introduced? Are they free ({{PD-UKGov}} or {{PD-old-50}} or {{PD-old-70}} or some other) or not? Alex Spade (talk) 19:41, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alex! Soryy for the delay in replying, I have been away from home for several days. Although the images were created by me by editing photo's I have taken I do follow your meaning about derivative works. In the UK any photo taken of any item is considered the property of the photographer, otherwise there would be a lot of copyright accusations and writs issued for compensation. These two in particular are photographs I have cropped and edited with a photo editing programme. However for the sake of clarity here I will change the licensing to reflect the original items and include {{PD-UKGov}} to cover both the eventualities. Richard Harvey (talk) 09:50, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. This variant is suitable. Alex Spade (talk) 17:08, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of beer bottles[edit]

Hi Richard. I agree, that such mass deletion (maded by Szczepan) is strange enough (even if he is right, the discussion, which he has refered to, cann't be used for over deletion). But I am not a Commons sysop and only can advise to start undeletion request. Alex Spade (talk) 15:49, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Richard. I'm a little bit concerned about this image. What is the licensing status of the mapping? Adambro (talk) 20:31, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

If you don't stopping vandalising portrait images by reverting uploads such as many here I will report you and I will seek a blocking. Thank you. - Thomas Gun (talk) 07:46, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Its not vandalism' have you read the edit summaries? You are uploading radically different images over the top of other images, which should be uploaded as new images in their own right. I note from your talkpage that I am not the only editor that has mentioned this fact. Richard Harvey (talk) 11:20, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I note my reverts to the edits placed on the portraits concerned have been vindicated on the Administrators Noticeboard - Overwriting issue. Richard Harvey (talk) 18:56, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Animalibri[edit]

Richard, your recent change to Animalibri had an undesired side-effect, which is that the bird now appears in a white square. The white square blocks out whatever is on the page. Would it be possible to fix this, so that only the bird overlays page content, and the square is transparent again, the way it was before? Thanks, --Jayen466 18:48, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Thanks for the heads up, working on a white background I had not noted the transparenct mask had gone. I reuploaded the image as a transparency. However although this worked perfectly on my own computers, I tried it on several, uploading the image to Wiki Commons corrupted the image. I am unable to work out why this happened, therefore I have reverted the file back to the image version by Spacebirdy and reinserted the epilepsy warning message. Richard Harvey (talk) 05:44, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! --Jayen466 08:31, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Isle Ristol[edit]

The enhancement on IsleRistolair.jpg improves the contrast of the green and brown, but it makes it look more like a cloudy day in summer than a sunny winter's day and the blue is much too dark. Can you have a go at fixing this please? Thanks, W. L. Tarbert (talk) 22:00, 9 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
