Copyright status: File:Rubus chamaemorus fi.png
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Rubus chamaemorus fi.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Renaming
You have asked renaming of several files, with names different than the ones described in the book, expample here. --FocalPoint (talk) 09:46, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
- @FocalPoint: Reason being taxonomical changes. Your example for example, according to Fossilworks, Blastomeryx marshi is a synonym of Aletomeryx gracilis. Taxonomy changes in one hundred years and I thought it was good to have the correct name in the title. Stop mass renaming those files. --Paranaja (talk) 09:56, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
As you have set these files for renaming to something completely different than what the book says, you have to clearly explain this, both in the description text, as well as in the renaming request text. Maybe you have deep knowledge of the issue at hand (which I cannot verify), maybe you are just proposing something completely wrong. How is anyone supposed to know the difference? As far as I am concerned a user sees "Chrysemys wyomingensis" and you propose to move to File:Echmatemys wyomingensis.jpg. This does not make sense, not to the renamer, not to anybody who will see the image. Explain in the image description that the nook indicates the name as Chrysemys wyomingensis, but because of xxxxx, this is now called Echmatemys wyomingensis. Then someone can check if what you claim makes sense. --FocalPoint (talk) 10:05, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
- I didn't really want to touch the descriptions of those bot-uploaded files because they are filled with crap, but from now on I will. I understand the problem, and in one case I actually had written an additional explanation to prevent confusion. And just to make sure, I'm indeed not proposing something completely wrong. :) --Paranaja (talk) 10:21, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
My proposal is to do this for all images renamed and candidates for renaming. --FocalPoint (talk) 10:14, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2018 is open!
Dear Paranaja,
You are receiving this message because we noticed that you voted in R1 of the 2018 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in the second round. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2018) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked.
In the final (and current) round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2018.
Round 2 will end 17 March 2019, 23:59:59.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 18:04, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
File:Isthminia panamensis skull.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Thanks for uploading File:Asilisaurus kongwe painting.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Asilisaurus kongwe painting.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Hi, why did you move File:Lampropeltis triangulum in Burgers' Zoo (Desert).JPG from Category:Lampropeltis triangulum in zoos to Category:Unidentified Lampropeltis? - FakirNL (talk) 09:03, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
- A genetic study from 2014 showed that Lampropeltis triangulum actually represents 7 different species. [1] The snake in the picture is not a true Lampropeltis triangulum, but it's one of the species separated from L. triangulum. Many of the species look very similar [2], so identification is very difficult without knowing the location from where the snake is from. The safest is just to keep it unidentified. --Paranaja (talk) 09:46, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
- According to this, the milksnake in the Burger's Zoo is of the subspecies Lampropeltis triangulum sinaloae, which was separated to the species Lampropeltis polyzona. Assuming that they still have the same snakes as in 2015, the snake in your picture is a Lampropeltis polyzona. In my opinion that is a valid identification and the image can be placed in Category:Lampropeltis polyzona instead of Category:Unidentified Lampropeltis. --Paranaja (talk) 09:57, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for answering my question so fast and clearly! - FakirNL (talk) 10:28, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Atte Laitila & Pablo Picasso.jpg.
Thank you. |
