Hello, Olli1800!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Alpina B10 Bi-Turbo[edit]

Hello, I'm sorry but Wikipedia is not a source. Secondly, Alpina uses "Bi-Turbo" on their website. Finally, I have copies of some reviews and articles in magazines: the majority uses "Bi-Turbo", not "Biturbo". BiTurbo is not correct but Biturbo isn't more correct either. Nemesis III (discuter) 11:04, 20 July 2016 (UTC).[reply]

Hello, thanks for starting this discussion. Spelling is sometimes a problem in Wikipedia.
I would assume that it's not a question of "correct source or not", the topic is more "Wikipedia naming convention". Even if Alpina uses "Bi-Turbo" or "BiTurbo" as "company's preferred spelling" or "official name", capital letters within a word are ignored in the titles of Wikipedia-articles, at least in the German Wikipedia. The convention (Namenskonvention) is:
This leads to the German and English titles of the Articles: Alpina B10 Biturbo. Oh, I see that you changed the title of the english article. Please undo (this may cause problems related to "what links here") and don't do so in the German Version (conflict with Wikipedia-Namenskonvention, see above).
Moreover: Since Template:Commonscat is linked to the name of the Wikipedia-article, your changes generate a misleading link, this means that the link is misrouted into a "Wikimedia-nirvana", even if pictures of the car are available on Wikimedia.

Hello, sorry for not answering sooner I've been quite busy recently. Naming convention should obviously be applied in the case of PascalCase, but finally it's not the case here since the "official" spelling is Bi-Turbo. I don't think naming conventions apply here because they are made to avoid bizarre ways to spell a name, not to delete a hyphen between a prefix and a noun. I've got a very bad argument: what about the Ferrari LaFerrari and the GTC4Lusso? The convention is only applied to some articles. It's completely illogical still this fact is recognised in the Namenskonventionen (for example, iPhone, LaTeX...).
Concerning the Commonscat template, it is considered outdated on both English and French Wikipedia and other templates are used. I guess there are more adapted templates on German Wikipedia. Regards, Nemesis III (discuter) 10:36, 9 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, thanks for your reply. Why are you so sure about the "official" spelling? Contemporary articles – like the tests in Auto, Motor und Sport – write "Alpina B10 Biturbo" (source: http://www.e34.de/e34/tests/m5b10omega500e.htm). And even Alpina varies the spelling: On the radiator grille you can read "BiTURBO" (source: http://www.automobile-sportive.com/guide/alpina/b10biturbo.php) as well as on the trunk (both unhyphenated !), in the brochure ALPINA writes "BMW ALPINA B10 Bi-Turbo" and on more recent brochures you can read "BMW ALPINA B5 BITURBO" (only capital letters) or "ALPINA B4 BITURBO Coupé".
The sources show that there exist not "the one and only" spelling. I would like to stay with the Namenskonvention and add the "different spelling versions" by noting that the company uses an alternate spelling in their documents and a further spelling on the cars, for example "company's preferred spelling is "BMW ALPINA B10 Bi-Turbo". Is this acceptable for you?

File:BMWArtCar-Penck.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
