Thanks for uploading Image:Istroromanian-map.png. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Hi. I've seen you deleted the category:Agriculture in Romania on those two pictures and I would want to know why. The first one represents daily life of farmers on a dray plus a cow, the second one represents goose breeding not far from a farm. You may know that animal breeding is part of agriculture. --TwoWings * to talk or not to talk... 09:25, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

IMO the first picture is clearly an illustration of agriculture: seeing those farmers on that dray illustrates how they work. The second one might more "borderline". In my memory the building behind was a farm but now I have some doubts about it. I posted a message at the village pump to ask other people's opinions. --TwoWings * to talk or not to talk... 06:12, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well I'd agree it'd be better in a category:Rural life in Romania but it doesn't exist - may we create such cat? But your comparison with the steelworker coming back home seems a bit hypocrit to me: in my picture we clearly see farmers with what they use for work (the dray) and in their rural environment (cow, dog, village). Seeing a steelworker in a bus wouldn't illustrate anything about the industry he's working, but the case is different here. --TwoWings * to talk or not to talk... 15:44, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't want to annoy nor to unnerve you. I just wanted to understand your change and to discuss about it in order to find a solution. Well I created the Category:Animal husbandry in Romania and I improved the description of both pictures from what I remember (and from what I see on them). I guess it's better now. --TwoWings * to talk or not to talk... 05:18, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please give some thought to writing a good description of uploaded images. This ensures that they can be used. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Solved. --Olahus (talk) 22:12, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This image as unneutral as it can be.
The black is artifically made darker so that it is more emphesized, while the other colors are fainted to make them less significant. Also, the choice of black as a color and its form, that resembles a spilled ink stain further emphizes the Romanian territories and appears as if the black is crawling to other parts of the map which gives a wrong impression to the observer...
This map is a propaganda work in the first place. Moreover the "user contribution" of Alex:D just cranks up these slanted and biased characteristics even more.--Bizso (talk) 16:57, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The map was made to represent the Romanian-inhabited territories. That's why other peoples are represented in lighter colours. The important thing that the information by itself isnb't wrong, the representation is made in accordance with the census results. See also this map. See for example an other map, the so-called red map (also a propagandistic work). Here, the Hungarians are represented in a strong red, while the Romanians in light violet. A map can't be criticized because of it's colours. --Olahus (talk) 18:23, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Olahus!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Attribution of ethnicity[edit]

What is your basis for attributing Roma ethnicity to the subject of this photo that I took? - Jmabel ! talk 06:23, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Any idea of the actual year of the map? You uploaded it giving the date of 2008, but clearly (as your title indicates) it is old. - Jmabel ! talk 06:23, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Pipera Airport is exactly what interested me about it. I added the map to en:Pipera (a lousy article, by the way). Where did the map come from? Because right now you say just "Planul Bucureştiului" and give a date of 2008, which makes no sense given that the map must be 60-85 years old. - Jmabel ! talk 17:32, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also, http://romanian-spotters.forumer.ro/muzee-de-aviatie-f10/muzeul-aviatiei-bucuresti-pipera-t1501-25.htm indicates that the present-day Muzeul Aviaţiei is on the site of the former Pipera Airport, which makes sense. Any idea where we could find a citable source for that? The museum's own site doesn't seem to mention this. - Jmabel ! talk 17:41, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I've set date to "Source (2008) doesn't give explicit date, but appears to be from the 1920s or 1930s." Hope that's OK with you. And I'll change the category to Category:Old maps of Bucharest. - Jmabel ! talk 18:12, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, do you have the entire map? It is only a piece of it and i am interested to have the entire map, or maybe other parts that you have...I have some land location (form 1920) form that area and it would really help me. Thank you in advance

This image was changed to the old version by me. "File:LocationRomania.png" is too large as location map. Please see this page "ja:Category:ルーマニア" and links of "this page"', and verify each layouts. If you need new image, please use this image File:EU location ROM.png on each pages, or change file name. - D.h (talk) 21:23, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please help replace this outdated license[edit]

Hello!

Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license PD. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding PD-self if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.

Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

The images we would like you to check are:

Serbocroatian language maps[edit]

Data for all countries in these maps (Romania included) is given on municipal level. In Romania, data is given for communes of Socol, Pojejena, Svinita, Carasova and Lupac and these communes are equivalent to the municipal level administrative units of Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, etc. Most of these Romanian communes are composed of several localities thus it is clear that data in my maps given for Romania does not reflect "locality level". If you want to draw new maps which would reflect locality level data, then please upload such maps as new separate files, not over my work. However, I am not aware that Serbian statistical service published locality level data for languages and religion from 2002 census. Only data for ethnicity is published for locality level, while data for language and religion is published for municipal level only. Therefore, if you want to draw a map that would reflect locality level data then I suggest that your map should reflect ethnicity (not language), since you simply will not be able to find sources that would speak about locality level data for language. PANONIAN (talk) 17:07, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it is not quite correct that all municipalities in Serbia are containing a high number of localities - there are municipalities that are containing 50 or 100 localities, but there are also those that are containing only 1 or 2 localities. And there are also districts, which are kind of "middle administration level" in Serbia, so situation in Serbia is not so different if we compare it with situation in Romania. Asezarile etnicilor germani din Banat si Transilvania de Sud in 1940[edit]

Salut,

Avand in vedere ca autorul hartii (Gunter Herbert) a murit in mod cert dupa 1940, am pus la 'author' institutul de statistica al Grupului Etnic German. Nu stiu daca e corect sa fac asa, dar ma gandesc ca in felul asta ar putea fi luati in considerare cei 70 de ani din 1940 pana astazi si harta ar fi atunci in domeniul public. E oare bine cum am procedat?

Do you deny that this map is POV? Tell me, is this Romanian user that created this map which show that many Serbs lived in that region too: http://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fi%C5%9Fier:ROMANI_SARBI_1930_1931.PNG - yes, it is. So, how can you then force this POV view that these settlements were inhabited by Romanians only? I do not see how much one have to hate Serbs if he try to present that Serbs never lived in part of their own country. 194.106.188.101 10:40, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Harta etnica 2011[edit]

Salut,

Andrei User talk:Andrein 02:25, 05 February 2012 (EET)

Mersi.

http://www.bistrita.insse.ro/main.php?page=_judete

Andrei User talk:Andrein 16:32, 06 February 2012 (EET)

Pe harta asta am trasat limitele noilor comune doar in locurile unde e afectata si frontiera etnica (in SM, MS, IL etc.)

Andrei User talk:Andrein 22:41, 09 February 2012 (EET)

M-am ocupat in sfarsit si de harta cu provinciile istorice.

Does your recently-uploaded version of that image treat Voivodina separately from the rest of Serbia? I'm not sure that was the original intention of the map... AnonMoos (talk) 03:05, 11 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

According to the Constitution of Vojvodina the latin script is official along side the cyrillic script. Therefore, Serbian is officially allowed to be written with latin letters. And they are also many languages official in Vojvodina (Croation, Hungarian, Romanian, Slovak) which are wrtitten only with latin letters. --Olahus (talk) 10:28, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I worte it because at the beginning I didn't have the data for all the rayons, for some regions I had data only at a regional level (see also the file history) so I represented the results at regional level where rayonal wasn't available. Cheers! --Olahus (talk) 21:38, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In which case, could you please list the census source/s you used? It would be useful to keep this map, and I wouldn't want to see it challenged over not listing the source. It's fine if it's in Ukrainian as I can translate for any English language speakers in order to attest to its veracity. Thanks! --Iryna Harpy (talk) 22:03, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, again, Olahus. I've noticed that you've added this file to the Wikipedia Ukraine article again. You still haven't provided your sources for data per raion. I'm leaving it in place for the moment, but am awaiting some sort of indications as to sources so they can be cited for the map here. Simply stating that it's your own original work isn't satisfactory as it could be deleted at any time as original research. It isn't a problem if the data sources are reliable sources in Ukrainian or Russian as I can translate anything in need of translation in order to attest to the veracity. We'd already rejected a few maps for the demographics section as being unreliable and original research. Please get back to me ASAP on this matter. Thanks for your hard work (and your patience in responding to my exacting standards)! --Iryna Harpy (talk) 04:28, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

File:Slavic languages.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Ever work with Shapefiles or GeoJSON?[edit]

Hi Olahus - love all of your maps. Thanks for your contributions!

I'm working with the WikiMaps group & am looking to build Wikimedia's volume of GIS-based data files for historical maps. Is there any chance you've built some maps in any GIS formats and then converted them to SVG? Or, do you have any georeferenced svg's? Thanks in advance for any help. --Jeffme (talk) 00:01, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Papusza.JPG. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Papusza.JPG) and the above demanded information in your request.
