First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page, write this: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Please help replace this outdated license[edit]

Hello!

Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license {{PD}}. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding {{PD-self}} if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.

Logo's[edit]

Hoi, zou je geen logo's voor verwijdering willen nomineren vanwege copyright als ze zo simpel zijn dat je er {{PD-textlogo}} op kunt zetten? Zie voor meer informatie ook threshold of originality. Jcb (talk) 20:08, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

logo's duinrand s[edit]

Beste Miho, ik ben voorzitter van deze club en heb het logo zelf laten ontwerpen. Er rust bmw geen copyright op.File:Logo320.jpg Ook he artikelscan komt uit een weekblad dat niet meer bestaat. Volgens mij is daar geen copyrighthouder van. Zou een nenorme uitzoekpatij worden. Maar ik ga deze scan tzt wel vervangen, want hij is erg lelijk. Beste Gkohler1. Prima, dan laat ik het verder zo. Ik zal het bij de nominaties aangeven. Copyright op het logo zou trouwens nog bij de ontwerper van het logo kunnen liggen. Door het vrijgeven van het logo zou het volgens mij in theorie mogelijk zijn dat een willekeurig iemand nu pennen laat maken met het logo van de club erop en deze naast de toegangspoort van de club gaat verkopen. Zonder dat de club daar geld voor ziet. Maar dat zal in de praktijk wel meevallen. Het krantenartikel; op zich zal het uitzoekwerk meevallen. Het artikel is ondertekend door iemand met de initialen J.M. en de kans is groot dat hij in het colofon van de krant vernoemt staat. Hi Miho, why did you remove the EXIF data when cropping? There is no need for that or did the photographer ask for that? In case that the still somewhat controversial removal of (C) watermarks is found to be non-legal (that's a general dispute, unrelated to you and to this image), the additional removal of EXIF data that contain author information might pose a problem. Waarom is dit verwijderd? In april 2019 heeft een club official al een mail gestuurd naar permissions-commons@wikimedia.org met de toestemming en verklaring omtrent het gebruik van oa de logo's
