Your recent uploads: Categorisation[edit]

Hi, please do not categorize your uploads (an example of your recent activity):

Category:Gohar Shahi +
Category:Protests +
Category:New Delhi +
Category:India

Please save time and capacity on commons by categorizing:

Category:Gohar Shahi (and for example Category:Protests in New Delhi)

Please use as far as possible the category of the regarding city/town/village or district (if there's no category), or, a localized better 'fitting' i.e. the 'most fitting"' category(ies), and, do not add - in addition - the categories of the city, state and country, too.

For further information on categories please read Commons:Categories referring to an accurate categorisation, simplifying your further uploads and categorisation in general. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the commons:help desk.

Thank you for your assistance, Roland 10:55, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

File:Letter-from-Prime-Minister.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Use of Commons to promote the foundation[edit]

I've been watching your work here with some interests. I do have some concerns however particularly I do consider this file and the section it is in as being promotional and so outside our scope. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 15:53, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not trying to promote the organization, I'm trying to let viewers know what work the organizations been upto. E.g. The protests, processions and important meetings; as I couldn't find legit references that could speak of the occasions, hence "pictures are louder than words". If you could advise me on how I could go on about this, it'd be much appreciated, but my aim is not to promote the organization in any way, and all the images uploaded are with consensus of those included, otherwise blurred of faces of those who are not willing to be included. - MFI Media/Correspond 15:57, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I would be promoting the foundation, were I praising their works or exaggerating in their activities, however, I'm just uploading their activities in the last decade or so, and how their activities may have effected locals or the government in any way. - MFI Media/Correspond 16:01, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
However the words "Invitation to a Conference" are promotional as is a "publicity" section. --Herby talk thyme 16:02, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. But I'm just trying to post pictures of how the foundation has tried to promote its message. But if it helps and if you advise so, I can delete that section. - MFI Media/Correspond 16:03, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
For the sake of completeness this should be noted too. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 16:04, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Should I delete the publicity section? - MFI Media/Correspond 16:05, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Remember, in all of this, that there are no firm right answers. Different editors will tell you different things. I know that's not very helpful, but that's the way it is.

The question you should think about is this: Your user name says that your goal is to tell the world about MFI. That is OK here, within limits, where it would not be OK on the English Wikipedia. Uploading images is fine, again, within certain limits (which includes paying more attention to copyright). Putting them in categories is good thing.

Once you start creating galleries, with editorial material and captions, you should be very careful. Galleries on Commons are not articles on their subject, but displays of images of the subject. Text can describe the images, but should do so in a very neutral way. For me these captions are OK:

  • Placards displayed at a procession in front of the Indian Embassy.
  • A protester during a protest in front of the Indian Embassy, carried out by Messiah Foundation International.
  • AlGohar at the United Nations.

But these captions are borderline, probably not OK with me:

  • MFI members in India protest against persecution they faced in Pakistan
  • A placard warning the Indian Embassy of the outcome of their potential decisions regarding the case of Pakistani MFI members in India.
  • A member of Messiah Foundation International protests against the imprisonment of MFI members in Tihar Jail, India in 2007.

The three might better say:

  • MFI members in India protest
  • A placard at a protest at the Indian Embassy
  • A member of Messiah Foundation International protests

I really appreciate the help and the light shed upon this issue, and you're most welcome to edit anything that you might think not appropriate on the article. Again, very much appreciated on the help, and I will take it into account next time. - MFI Media/Correspond 21:08, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

image licence question[edit]

Sorry, I'm not familiar with these issues. Trying posting on the public notice-boards, see Commons:Community_portal. Regards, cygnis insignis 20:52, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
