GaGa[edit]

That's unfortunate, have you tried asking the user to change the license back? I often write them and ask using a modified version of Example requests for permission. I can't delete btw, I'm merely "trusted" :) Hekerui (talk) 11:14, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

help[edit]

can you obtain permission for http://www.bollywoodhungama.com/stills/partiesnevents/Hrithik,_Dia,_Genelia_and_Sridevi_grace_HDIL_India_Couture_Week/still85475.html from indiafm, since you have uploaded many images from Indiafm. Help will be greatly appreciated. Gd449 (talk) 12:54, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS received[edit]

Hey Stifle, since for the images in Category:Drowned World Tour you said that the OTRS has been received in ticket 2010010810008251. So can I or anyone update the tag as OTRS received for those images? Also, how can you have an account in OTRS and be a trusted user for the images? -- Legolas from Mirkwood 09:11, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Usually the OTRS received tag is added when a message has been received and replied to, but there is a problem with the permission. Although there is nothing to stop you adding , I suppose.
To get an account in OTRS you would need to go to m:OTRS/volunteering and apply.
To become a trusted user on Commons (which is only relevant for Flickr images and has nothing to do with OTRS), you can request it at Commons talk:Flickr files/reviewers. Stifle (talk) 09:52, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation Stifle, however, you said that there is a problem with the permission, can you elaborate what kind of problem. As far as I know, i did everything as explained in the permission. -- Legolas from Mirkwood 10:16, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No, I said that the OTRS received tag is added if there is a problem with the permission. If the email has not been processed at all, there is no tag. Stifle (talk) 10:31, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bollywood[edit]

Please don't upload a lot of photos with visible website watermarks in the center. Such watermarks are frowned upon here at Commons, and often cast into question an image's copyright status. AnonMoos (talk) 12:27, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please look at Template:Watermark. I wasn't aggressive in adding that template to the images you uploaded, but other people here might not be so generous... AnonMoos (talk) 05:18, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Legolas, the ticket in question is 2010011910007482 — received just 4 hours ago. Best, odder (talk) 08:57, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ticket verification[edit]

Hey Stifle, can you take a look at Ticket 2010011910007482? Its been a long time since I uplaoded the images and its pending, hence can you help a little? -- Legolas from Mirkwood 06:14, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I can't do anything with that ticket, I get an access denied message when I try to open it. Stifle (talk) 09:52, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That OTRS 2010011910007482 again[edit]

Hi Stifle. Did you verify the above ticket and send a mail to me? Coz I got a mail from Joe Daly, figured it can be you. The mail mentioned some problems like,

"We have not been able to validate this authorization at this time, because we are unable to be sure that the email address which you have used is indeed that of the site where the content was originally published.

To confirm this authorization, you may:

 • Resend this email to us from an address listed in the contact page on your website (please ensure that you include the ticket number in the subject, so that our system will associate the new email with this one).
 • Amend (temporarily or permanently) the contact page on your website so that this address appears on it, and reply to this email saying you have done so.
 • Add a notice on your website specifying that the content is released under the CC-BY-SA 3.0 license (or, in the case of an image, any other acceptable free licence), and reply to this email saying you have done so and linking to where we can see the notice."

I was not able to understand which email address the person is referring to. I have previously also got permission from them to upload the images, from their site. Do you want the website to send any mail? Please revert back. The ticket in question is Ticket:2010011910007482. Please can you help me to understand what the above means? -- Legolas from Mirkwood 04:08, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The email sent to OTRS was not from an email address that OTRS was able to associate with the source of the images. To use an image from mad-eyes.net we need permission from an address ending in @mad-eyes.net or displayed on the site somewhere. Stifle (talk) 09:12, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No? I have sent OTRS permission before also from the same mail id, CC-ing the Madeyes team as well. Even it was you only who had updated the license for a similar mail from the same id. Nowhere it says that the website name has to be indentical to the correspondence. If you really want to believe, go to Mad-eyes.net and try contacting them, you will get the same yahoo mail id. See also the images in Category:Drowned World Tour and its ticket. Hope that clarifies your doubt. -- Legolas from Mirkwood 09:44, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
File:Madonna-live earth-hey you.jpg - this is one of the similar images you verified. -- Legolas from Mirkwood 09:51, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
To use an image from mad-eyes.net we need permission from an address ending in @mad-eyes.net or displayed on the site somewhere. While this requirement may not have been insisted upon in the past, OTRS has become stricter recently and we will require one of the three actions above to be taken. If the person who sent us the email genuinely owns mad-eyes.net, then they will not have any issues complying with the requirement. Stifle (talk) 10:18, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is obvious that I donot own Mad-eyes.net. The correspondence is present in the Ticket itself. And by past if you mean just one week back, whence you verfied the above image's ticket, then I seriously don't know what to say. And how the hell will Mad-eyes send a mail from @mad-eyes.net when their contact listing is with yahoo? -- Legolas from Mirkwood 10:25, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I can cancel the verification of the other image if it'll make you feel better. But there are plenty of options available — they can put a note on their site saying "We confirm we are the senders of OTRS ticket #2010011910007482" and send it to us, or they can put the email address they use on their site, or they can put a CC-BY-SA release notice on their site. Stifle (talk) 10:38, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The last option seems workable. Will you give me some time so that I can contact their webmaster Bart and ask him to add the release notice? For the second option, do they need to just show that madeyesteam@yahoo.com is their mail address on the webpage? -- Legolas from Mirkwood 10:43, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No problem — the best solution is that the website specifies that [insert list of images, or category of images, or whatever] are released under the CC-BY-SA-3.0 license, located at [1]. Next best is to add the contact address to some page (doesn't have to be linked anywhere, just send us the URL). Stifle (talk) 10:50, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS 2010011910007482[edit]

Stifle what's going on with this ticket for the Re-Invention Tour images? Mad-eyes.net sent a confirmation long back regarding the copyright, but its still not updated. I'm very confused now. -- Legolas from Mirkwood 10:32, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A reply was issued to the sender of the email on February 25th explaining that we were unable to accept the permission due to certain issues. If the sender reads the email down to the bottom he/she will see what the issues are and how to resolve them.
Due to the confidentiality of the OTRS system, I am unable to give you any further information besides this on the talk page. Even if you ask. Stifle (talk) 08:26, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I understand Stifle and the persong to whom the mail was sent was me only. I can confirm. As per out previous discussion regarding this issue, where you asked me to ask Mad-eyes.net to send a mail to OTRS that the images are released under SA license, Mad-eyes.net has sent a mail to OTRS long in March 25, 2010. I have a copy of the mail too. Hence I was wondering why is it stil pending . -- Legolas from Mirkwood 11:50, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have any other record of an email on this. If you have a ticket number for the email from mad-eyes.net I can move this along. Stifle (talk) 18:33, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The template is not enough, it states that you need individual permission for each uploaded image.

File:RIT-holiday1.jpg, File:RIT-Music1.jpg, File:RIT-hollywood.jpg, File:RIT-express yourself1.jpg, File:RIT-bedtime story.jpg, File:RIT-holiday2.jpg, File:RIT-vogue4.jpg, File:RIT-vogue3.jpg, File:RIT-vogue2.jpg, File:RIT-vogue1.jpg, File:RIT-nobody knows me3.jpg, File:RIT-nobody knows me2.jpg, File:RIT-nobody knows me.jpg, File:RIT-vogue5.jpg, File:RIT-american life3.jpg, File:RIT-american life2.jpg, File:RIT-american life1.jpg, File:RIT-frozen1.jpg, File:RIT material girl.jpg, File:RIT burning up2.jpg, File:RIT-burning up1.jpg, File:RIT-express yourself2.jpg, File:RIT deeper and deeper.jpg, File:RIT hanky panky3.jpg, File:RIT hanky panky2.jpg, File:RIT hanky panky1.jpg, File:RIT die another day3.jpg, File:RIt die another day2.jpg, File:RIT die another day1.jpg, File:RIT dont tell me1.jpg, File:RIT nothing fails.jpg, File:RIT lament.jpg, File:RIT Like a Prayer.jpg, File:RIT dont tell me2.jpg, File:RIT into the groove.jpg, File:RIT-music3.jpg, File:RIT-music2.jpg, File:RIT crazy for you.jpg, and File:RIT papa dont preach.jpg are also missing evidence of permission.

Also, if you make derivative works, don't mark them as own work and don't add additional licenses not approved by the original copyright holder, I fixed this for example here. Regards Hekerui (talk) 09:54, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, demands additional information, are these images explicitly allowed by the other ticket you mentioned? "all images from Bollywood Hungama must be verified, individually or in small batches, by OTRS" and I don't see another ticket on the pages for them. The Madonna images have had no sufficient permission, you see that on the pages. Best Hekerui (talk) 12:40, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You could add a tag but in my opinion you really don't need to because no image is really lost here - everything can be restored. Hekerui (talk) 08:09, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you sent another email after my notification it will take time, OTRS is very slow, it takes in my experience up to four weeks. But you can try to ask an OTRS volunteer who has access to the queue. Hekerui (talk) 07:49, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's been a month now and I nominated the images for deletion at Commons:Deletion requests/bollywoodhungama uploads by Legolas. Regards Hekerui (talk) 17:47, 21 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Stifle can you please check Ticket:2008030310010794 and see whether the licensing is correct? A huge number of images uploaded are pending on the outcome of this ticket. -- Legolas from Mirkwood 12:22, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your Flickr uploads[edit]

Hello Legolas2186!

Thanks a lot for your contributions! Thank you for transferring images from Flickr to Commons! Two hints ahead:

 • Always upload the highest resolution of a photograph that is available on flickr
 • You can use this tool for your flickr uploads. It makes the hole procedure much easier and faster for you!

Thank you for your support! Greetings, High Contrast (talk) 17:15, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Critically evaluate Flickr licenses
File:Madonna Oscars 2011.jpg has been marked as a copyright violation. You may have preserved the information shown on Flickr correctly when transferring the image here, but the Flickr uploader is not the copyright holder of this image. Either the image was created by someone else, or it is a derivative of someone else's work. As stated in Commons:Licensing, only the copyright holder may issue a license, so the one shown on Flickr is invalid. Always remember to critically evaluate Flickr licenses. Photostreams with professional-looking photographs, album covers, posters, and images in a wide range of styles or quality taken by many different cameras often indicate that the Flickr uploader either does not understand or does not care about copyright matters. See Commons:Questionable Flickr images for a list of known bad Flickr users.

File:Britneybirthday.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Amish Tripathi.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.
