Jag satt och bläddrade förstrött i de bilder från New Student's du har fixat och lade märke till en bild som jag tyckte mig känna igen. Mycket riktigt, bilden på en jordnötsplanta i Image:LA2-NSRW-3-0473.jpg är ju väldigt lik Image:Koeh-163.jpg från Koehler's Medicinal Plants från 1887. Delete empty pages from Category:Meyers Blitz-Lexikon?[edit]

Nope, I usually do not tear out those pages ;-). The empty pages do not disturb me particulary. Please do not regard my question as being more than that. It was posed to inform after your opinion.
My line of thinking was that in the digital age empty pages serve no purpose. On sites where I have seen scanned (old) books, especially with the ORC-ed content beside it, there was simply a remark about page so-and-so being empty. I thought that in this case the same could be done. Honestly I do not see the added value of the empty page, as there's not even a page number on it - i.e. completely blank. From that perspective Image:LA2-Blitz-0102.jpg and Image:LA2-Blitz-0105.jpg are the same (these are by the way as far as I can see the only two empty pages in the above category). Anyway, thank you for providing your opinion and I do hope you will contribute more of these old scanned books. Have you written a description of how you undertook the project? Geo coordinates[edit]

Did you use any special upload tool for the Sialia_mexicana_07089.JPG? This image has geographic coordinates and links to some map servers, but I somehow suspect that you didn't fill in all the details by hand for every image. Some people use wiki templates for things like this. What tools do you use? --LA2 18:23, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I use a Python script to generate the external links. I think it would be better to add a template to Commons for this purpose, but in the absence of other interested editors, I wasn't bold enough to do so. Your query suggests to me that it may be appropriate to rethink that choice. The template that I used as a model is Geolinks-US-cityscale on English Wikipedia. OpenStreetMap is Creative Commons, not GFDL[edit]

You have listed Image:LA2-OSM-Frescati.png as dual licensed GFDL and Creative Commons, however OSM is only Creative Commons, you can't claim it is GFDL. edward

Yes, I pointed out to Cecil that she needs to be more explicit on why exactly she wants to delete all images of buildings by Le Corbusier. I don't think I was uncalm, uncool or unpolite. The way she currently formulated her deletion requests, it was impossible to tell whether she really knows anything about the applicability of French copyright law or if she was just trolling. As you can perhaps see from this discussion page, I have sometimes been the target of such trolling attacks (from anonymous users), where my perfectly legitimate images have been requested for deletion. This consumes a lot of time and energy. Every deletion request is an expression of mistrust, and needs to be more carefully and politely worded. It would also have been polite for Cecil to respond to my request, rather than just removing it from her user discussion page. I'm a complete beginner with Inkscape. Can you explain what went wrong, and how I can detect this? I created this from the English version. Should I start from the French version instead? It was hard to get 4-5-6-7 in a line. Is there a better trick for that? For use on the Swedish Wikipedia, I'd like a slightly different illustration that shows the formation of eskers in more detail. Märkliga krav?[edit]

Hej igen Lars! Om du ville titta lite på senaste rätt hårda krav på diskussionssidan till en:Jacob Truedson Demitz vore jag jättetacksam. Den ena (LaVidaLoca) skriver för en tid sedan att vi nu snart är färdiga med referenserna, så kommer nästa (Momoricks) idag och ställer högre och högre krav. Vill du kommentera någon av dessa nya krav där: 1) Pass är ingen källa (för födelsedatum o s v); 2) Expressen är ingen tillförlitlig källa; 3) Nästan alla de angivna källorna är otillförlitliga. Jag har jobbat jättehårt för att uppfylla alla krav och tog nu (anonymt) bort hans ena (roliga) smeknamn, eftersom han säger att det inte finns något publicerat om det annat än ett pass från 1980-talet där det fanns med. Eftersom den här artikeln gäller den som i huvudsak står bakom hela bilddonationen, som jag fått tillåtelse av att göra allt detta, är det särskilt känsligt och pinsamt för mig när de river och sliter i den. Jag kan tyvärr inte logga in på engelska Wikipedia för då dyker ett gäng på 3-4 arga på mig direkt. Jag blev riktigt rädd faktiskt och slutade där 1/12. Jag tittade lite snabbt på detta och lämnade ett par små kommentarer. Men jag fattar inte riktigt vad det handlar om. Strävar du efter att lyfta artikelns erkännande från C- till B-nivå? Bilder med kordinatsystemet UTM[edit]

Du har laddat upp några bilder med koordinatsystemet UTM. Problemet är att de föreställer MGRS-systemet som är en utbyggnad av UTM-systemet. Felet är lätt begånget. Utomlands händer det ofta att man blandar ihop UTM och MGRS, men i Sverige blandar man alltid ihop UTM med MGRS, då MGRS går under namnet UTM i de allra flesta av Lantmäteriets publikationer. Om du vill sätta dig in i skillnaderna finns en bra beskrivning av skilladerna och likheterna i Military Map Reading 201 på National Geospatioal-intelligence Agency's sajt. When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

I don't know what you mean with "change the face". The picture I uploaded is from an old book, and you should not alter this picture (Pieni 2 0139.jpg), because that would distort the representation of what was printed in that book. (Old books often contain statements, that we now know are wrong. We should not try to "fix" old books, but present them as they were printed.) Since the picture is free from copyright, you are free to produce derivate works that you can upload under a different filename. Yes, that's why I came here to ask you. I know it is a plate of an old book and I know that changing it I would distort the representation of what was printed in that book, so I don´t want to change anything in "Pieni 2 0139.jpg", perhaps write a description note warning of the wrong position of the flatfish. But I do believe necessary to rotate the figure "Hippoglossus hippoglossus (Pieni).jpg" because I suppose that having cut it, you have tried to show that fish in particular, not the plate of the book as such. (Now I notice you haven't done it, it was user Kilom691, so I should ask him too).
What "change the face" means: Flatfish have both eyes together on one side of the body. Some species have both eyes on the right side and other on the left side, and it is a character to know what species are we talking about. You can read more [2] and here. So "to change the face" (I don't know if it's the better way to say it) means to show flatfish as it is, in this case with both eyes on the right side. If I remember correctly, that category was one of the first that I looked for when sorting through the videos here. Then I started to become confused with where "aerial" would start and end. Starting from an aircraft but ending with orbiting vehicles? I think that the actual source of the photograph is a better way to go. Category:Videos by technique and even that has some problems since images from Hubble get used in videos (usually like a slide show or with a zoom) and are from both a telescope and a satellite. And other than being colorful and often pretty, are not the makings of great videos -- but this is a digression.
I have been stymied by this set of non-misnomers: Category:High-speed photography and Category:Slow motion videos. Oxymoron means "conjoining contradictory terms" but these two contradictory terms are really the same thing and to the best of my vocabulary seem to be in need of a new terminology to describe them. Help with category[edit]

Hello LA2, how are you? Yesterday I did the category Files with closed captioning in Brazilian Portuguese, because when I sent an translation in ptbr to any video, it wasn't included in any category. So, could you help to make the category appear in all the files with ptbr subtitles? I suspect that exist some automatically way to do that. Du får det här meddelandet eftersom du tidigare har bidragit med bilder till de svenska deltävlingarna av Wiki Loves Earth eller Wiki Loves Monuments. Jag hoppas att du vill vara med i år också! Som vanligt ingår naturreservat och nationalparker, biosfärområden och naturminnen i tävlingen! Nytt för i år är att vi utöver bästa foto även belönar fotograferande av tidigare ofotograferade objekt samt bästa bildserie om minst tio fotografier av samma objekt. Tävlingen börjar 1 maj, och pågår under hela maj månad. Om du har varit ute i världen och rest kan du även se om resorna sammanfaller med övriga internationella deltävlingar, och i så fall vara med och tävla även där. Expeditioner, fotosafari eller en helt vanlig promenad? Via en smidig karta som visar ditt närområde hittar du bra ställen att besöka – eller varför inte damma av fotoalbumen och tävla med bilder du har tagit tidigare?
