Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Category:Species

Hi: What is the purpose of Category:Species?[http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Cryptogramma_acrostichoides&action=historysubmit&diff=61404298&oldid=6133831s I can't tell from its description. Should it contain any species pages? Why did you add Cryptogramma acrostichoides specifically? Normally, species pages are only categorized into the species category. Are we changing that practice? Category:Nature reserves in South Tyrol

Hello. Thanks for your efforts in articles related to ST. Adding the Category:Province of South Tyrol, however, to the nature reserves is redundant, as they are already listed indirectly under this category tree via the path Category:Nature reserves in South Tyrol -> Category:Geography of South Tyrol -> Category:Province of South Tyrol, being thus part of the required hierarchical structure for categories. Question about User talk:184.145.16.67

You left a "Vandalism is not appreciated" message on the subject page today for edits to the gallery Al-Qaeda. This is not a gallery that has ever exited on Commons.

Neither his contributions nor his deleted contributions show that he has made any edits since I blocked him for a week on November 11.

Also his only all time edits have been creating three times the deleted gallery Sascha Alessadro Bottcher and to two edits to Category:Black Eyed Peas. Are you sure you left the message on the correct page?      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 21:52, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Also, the IP adress was making nonsense information and was trying to play here just to harm it. I warned him when I was editing Category:Al-Qaeda and I warned him to stop vandalizing the category gallery and the article you deleted was a fake person and did not exist. IP block bot

I note that you are looking at running a bot to block open proxies. I feel I should let you know that I would oppose such a bot on Commons. Commons has contributors from many geographical areas where open proxies are the only way to contribute. We only block open proxies when they are abused.
