About the U.S presidential election map from [www.nationalatlas.org][edit]

Please don't change the color of the map that the Democrats is in blue color and Republicans in red color and the source (nationalatlas.org) displays that their U.S presidential election map is Democrats in red color and Republicans in blue color and it is also based on their political ideology that liberals (Democrats) is red color and conservatives (Republicans) is blue color. This color classification for Democrats is blue and Republicans is red is a misconception of most U.S media such as CBS and Fox News. Democrats must be red and Repulicans must be blue. Thank you.--Joseph Solis in Australia 09:44, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, I am sorry, you have it reversed. The standard model is having Republicans as red and Democrats as blue. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_state_vs._blue_state_divide for more information, and please do not change back. (Cardsplayer4life 10:17, 25 July 2007 (UTC))[reply]
You are incorrect. The National Atlas of the United States has used blue for Republicans and red for Democrats consistently. It was only after the 2000 election that media sources started using red to denote Republicans, but the National Atlas continued to use blue. Here is a link. http://www.nationalatlas.gov/printable/elections.html. Change the picture back. - (magnetsrcool 20:45, 25 July 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Yes, that was the point. The red = Republican and blue = Democrat is now the standard, and what everyone is used to. It has been retroactively applied to previous elections as a standard for clarity since it is what most people expect. See previous discussions on the matter or the appropriate article for further clarification. (Cardsplayer4life 21:51, 25 July 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Note: For anyone that is a resident of the US (or anyone that does a bit of googling), it is clear that red is widely regarded as Republican and blue is widely regarded as Democrat. I can provide references if necessary. ;) (Cardsplayer4life 21:55, 25 July 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Cardsplayer4life, My basis for red = Democrats and blue = Republicans is historical reason because before 2000 election, U.S media classify blue for Republicans and red for Democrats and please I want to revert your wrong color classification from 1980 elections up to 1996 elections blue for Republicans and red for Democrats instead of red for Republicans and blue for Democrats.--Joseph Solis in Australia 09:55, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but since the currently understood system is for red for Republicans and blue for Democrats, it is confusing to have it go back and forth. Even though there was no defined system before 2000 (both systems were used), since the currently understood system is one way it is logical to use that one for identification to mitigate confusion. In other words, I can show quite clearly through links that there is a clear consensus for red = Republican, blue = Democrat currently, but there was a mix of systems used before 2000 (If you have contradictory information to that, I would indeed like to see the links showing the opposite consensus before 2000; everywhere I have seen has shown a mix of systems before 2000). Note: If further conversations could take place only on my wikipedia page, it would be greatly appreciated. Going back and forth is making me dizzy. ;) (Cardsplayer4life 22:05, 25 July 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Hello, Cardsplayer4life~commonswiki!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
