Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Image contribution not following licensing requirements[edit]

Commons has a fairly strict licensing policy that only allows certain sources to be uploaded. Your recent image File:Stefan_Molyneux_2016.png is a screenshot from a youtube video that is marked with the youtube Standard copyright notice, and cannot be uploaded here. Commons:YouTube files may be of use for you in the future. There are some YouTube videos which are marked with licenses we can use, but this isn't one of them. -- Netoholic @ 19:01, 27 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

File:Royal Irish Regimental Shield Full.png is a similar issue. Per the definition of Commons, a faithful scan does not create your own new work, so technically you cannot grant a Creative Commons for this image because you are not the copyright holder. Copyright has already expired for this anonymous photograph by Guy & Co. Ltd. of Limerick, Ireland, so please consider using {{PD-1923}}{{PD-EU-anonymous}} as a licence for this image and the cropped versions. De728631 (talk) 17:32, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Schopenhauer photo[edit]

Regarding this photo of Schopenhauer https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Arthur_Schopenhauer_by_J_Sch%C3%A4fer,_1859b.jpg, which was edited by you, I will copy and paste what I wrote on its discussion page:

'The date of this photo is given as being March 1859. However, two things lead me to doubt this.

First of all, the Encyclopedia Britannica - a reliable source if anything is - identifies the photo as being from 1855. See https://www.britannica.com/biography/Arthur-Schopenhauer

Secondly, this painting of Schopenhauer https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Schopenhauer.jpg is from 1855, according to that page itself and also according to the article on Schopenhauer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Schopenhauer), and is almost identical to the photo.

I therefore suggest that the photo's date is either changed to 1855 or else we remove reference to the date altogether, so as to get rid of the false information that the photo is from March 1859.'

Actually, the very title of the photo might be a problem because it has 1859 in its title. And there is another version of the photo here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Arthur_Schopenhauer_by_J_Sch%C3%A4fer,_1859b.jpg
