OTRS volunteer[edit]

Hi Amatulic, if "I'm an OTRS volunteer working on this.", then why don't you show that on your userpage (example: User:AFBorchert)? This might have saved me some time. --Túrelio (talk) 19:46, 5 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

My user page redirects to my Wikipedia user page, which clearly says I belong to the OTRS volunteer category. It didn't occur to me to add the category to my Commons user page because it's a redirect page. I have added it.
Also, do you know how to remove that "License migration candidate" category at File:Parul Yadav award.jpg? It doesn't seem to qualify, I don't know how that category got there, and I can't seem to remove it. Amatulic (talk) 19:55, 5 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This results from the template {{Gdfl}}. If you remove it, the migration message disappears. The GDFL license doesn't add any usability over CC-BY-SA anyway. --Túrelio (talk) 08:11, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thanks. I added the parameter migration=redundant to it to fix it. I included GDFL because the permission letter specified both CC-By-SA and GDFL. Amatulic (talk) 20:11, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pay attention to copyright
File:Hawk (an icon of the chess piece) Musketeer Version.png has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

This image is a free-use icon. It is easily created using the "Chess board painting tool" at the Musketeer Chess game-playing website. (http://musketeerchess.net/tools/boardpainter/). The icon is freely used for on-line chess games at other game-playing forums, for example at (www.chess.com) and in particular at (www.chess.com/es/forum/view/chess960-chess-variants/a-game-of-musketeer-chess).

The developer of the Musketeer Chess website himself has used and promoted the free-use of the icon at other game-playing websites. His username at "chess.com" is "musketeerchess2015" and an example is here: (https://www.chess.com/es/forum/view/chess960-chess-variants/corporal-pawn-chess-musketeerchess2015-vickalan). Thank you for your consideration. LithiumFlash (talk) 15:46, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There was no evidence provided that the icon is free use, or even available under an acceptable free license. The Musketeer Chess site has no licensing information for re-using content from that site. You also claimed that this is your "own work" when the icon was already published elsewhere with no attribution to you. Anachronist (talk) 17:40, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
File:Parul Yadav award.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

On deletion of File:Rama and Sita Love.png[edit]

I never wanted to hurt the sentiments of anyone and when I uploaded it on commons through commons app on android phone the app didn't ask for any source and so unlike on the commons upload wizard on webpage(using chrome) i had no option to mention the author and the source .Further more when i checked on web through my browser i found that it automatically perceived that i had created the image. Ihad no such intentions.Sorry if knowingly or unknowingly i violated the rules but since it was available on internet and on pinterest and freely accessible i think there should not be any copyright problem. Moreover there are many people who are freely using these pics on their blogs--King Rishab Dugar (talk) 13:38, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You didn't harm anything. Much on Pinterest is freely available, but some isn't. We seem to have special rules in place for images from Pinterest, but because the Pinterest image came from somewhere else, I am not sure if it would be considered free. Do you know if this is an old image created several decades ago? If so, then it wouldn't be subject to copyright. In any case, it needs some investigation.
If the image is kept, I think it would be an excellent image to include in the Wikipedia:Sita article. Anachronist (talk) 21:09, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

GIF problem?[edit]

Hi! For me, https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Centipede_backward_propagation.gif seems identical to the forward motion, no difference what appears. JSoos (talk) 10:58, 3 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@JSoos: You can see the difference if you view them side by side:
Look closely at where the feet clump together. In one image, the clumps move forward along the length of the centipede, and the clumps are in the air. In the other picture, the clumps move backward, and the clumps are on the ground. ~Anachronist (talk) 19:16, 3 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks, indeed! Now I see the difference. Sorry for bothering! JSoos (talk) 19:55, 3 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@JSoos: I made those images when I wondered what each way of walking would look like, and subsequently found videos of centipedes walking in each way. I wrote a blog article about it here and uploaded the images to Commons. ~Anachronist (talk) 22:04, 3 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
