Hi there, I apologize for replying late. I was very busy in real life. Thanks for your message. You have emailed the OTRS team, and a ORTS agent should respond shortly. There was no need to post a private email to my talk page. Please keep in mind that Wikimedia sites are in real life and you should not post any private info here. Please undo your upload at File:Dc_four_1.svg. It reduced the file size while MASSIVELY increasing the physical size of the image, breaking things that use that image. SQL (talk) 04:49, 7 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

✓ SVG resolution reduced It doesn't really matter because mediawiki renders all SVG files as PNG and automatically rescales them. But I've gone ahead and resized it. :) Masum Reza📞 04:59, 7 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It causes issues whenever the SVG file is used without a resizing parameter, e.g. [[File:Dc four 1.svg]] instead of [[File:Dc four 1.svg|250px]]. So yes, the resolution does need to be kept consistent. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 10:31, 7 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I should have thought about that. Masum Reza📞 22:34, 7 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Flickr proposal[edit]

Not to derail discussions on the proposals page too much, I'm putting this here.

I understand your concern about upload_by_url, but really, the abuse potential of that is virtually none. Anyone who wants to upload copyvios doesn't like being restricted to the whitelist. Any advantage is also diminished by the fact the fields in the wikitext have to be filled out. Downloading some image from Google images and dropping it into UploadWizard or cross-wiki upload is so much easier than using Special:Upload. In fact, newbies who use Special:Upload make themselves suspect because newbies don't know about Special:Upload.

I am pushing to get the url from upload_by_url included in the upload comment. (you already knew that, it's handy for various reasons) I'm saying all this now because I just patched up the recent uploads from Adriel 00. This is exactly why Flickr import should be exposed to everyone. And every vote counts. If you are uncomfortable supporting the proposal, perhaps you'd be willing to consider making your vote neutral. If you'd rather not, I won't bother you anymore about this if you don't want me to. Perhaps the proposal will still make it with your opposition, but I like having as broad support as possible. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 13:56, 7 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

related to Bots/Work requests[edit]

is the problem (Commons:Bots/Work_requests#Move_some_files_from_Category:Taken_with_Canon_EOS_5D_Mark_III_and_Tamron_SP_AF_70-200mm_F2.8_Di_VC_USD_to_Category:Taken_with_Tamron_SP_AF_70-200mm_F2.8_Di_VC_USD) still active? Please keep in mind that if someone not familiar with Commons' policies seeks help from administrators, who are authorized to resolve such issues by the community , they deserve to get a response from a competent admin, rather than teachings from a fellow rookie user. Sealle (talk) 12:54, 10 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I see. I'll take your advice and more careful from now on. Regarding my talk page archives, I think you can find a list of my user talk subpages here. On En-wiki Cluebot III provides an automatically updating archivebox template, and there is no Cluebot III here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Masumrezarock100 (talk • contribs) 14:09, 10 October 2019 (UTC) (UTC)[reply]
ArchiverBot is active on Commons. It uses the old {{User:MiszaBot/config configurations. If you want to set up auto-archiving on your talk page here you can just copy and amend the code from the top of the source of my talk page. -- Begoon 14:48, 10 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I know, I've already set it up. I was talking about the Archive index that Cluebot III provides. See my talk page on en-wiki for an example. I wish I could add a similar archivebox to my talk page here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Masumrezarock100 (talk • contribs) 14:51, 10 October 2019 (UTC) (UTC)[reply]
Well, no index, but the code at my page will give you an archive notice and an archive list with search box, which is good enough for most uses. I don't know if that can work with monthly archives, though - I just use the default numbers. Details are at Template:Archives - looks like you might have to give it a list of pages to include if you don't use the default numbers, but I haven't time to dig into it right now. -- Begoon 14:56, 10 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

no token, svgedit[edit]

hi, did you solve this problem meanwhile? --Mrmw (talk) 14:47, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Mrmw: No, I have not tried working with this script yet. The problem in my opinion is with User:Rillke/MwJSBot.js, which the SVG editor script uses to upload files. Are you implying that this script is working? Masum Reza📞 16:03, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
i tried to use the script - i am able do edit the svg-code online in the browser - but i could not upload the file - same problem you described with missing token --Mrmw (talk) 16:50, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
This is possibly happening because of recent API change in Mediawiki update. editToken had been deprecated and superseded by csrfToken. I see no recent changes in those scripts (I checked their history). User:Rillke/MwJSBot.js uses an API to upload files, and you can not send upload requests without a valid and unexpired token. Masum Reza📞 17:00, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
oh ok - seems you are an expert
i am just user - perhaps you could send rillke a message about this problem? the tool would be very usefull for small changes --Mrmw (talk) 17:13, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I know how useful this script is. I already have sent a message to their talk page. I don't see what more I can do. Masum Reza📞 17:39, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Added an user interface protected edit request on the script's talk page. And also notified Rillike again. Masum Reza📞 18:17, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

why did you do this? its a revision wiht almost zero-impact --Mrmw (talk) 14:06, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Mrmw: I just minified it's code. Feel free to revert. Masum Reza📞 14:46, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
its ok - just check your output if there is a impact regarding your changes
otherwise you genarte traffic and versions and consumption of memory --Mrmw (talk) 14:51, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I would agree with User:Mrmw, optimizing hundrets of files, leads to tickling watchlists and requires additional disk-space, and should in my opinion only be done in serious cases (i.e. Librsvg_bugs), see User:JoKalliauer/Optimization#svg-scource-code-edits_without_visual_change for details.
Since c:File:Organisation NATO.svg was used to show how to optimize a file, it is ok to show a different viewpoint of optimizaition.
I know that
  1. changing ids to usefull names or alphabetically makes more sense than to random letters as I did
  2. you could delete stroke-miterlimit="4.3" stroke-width="26.46" in Line 54
  3. you could delete all dx="0,...." dy="0,..." since librsvg can't handle them (see phab:T35245) and seem to be quite useless anywhy
I did not do that since I don't want to show a fast opimization, not a optimization which you can't understand any more.
I dont like indents with 4(or even more) spaces, since I want to see the hole line even if I split the screen. I also don't like no indents, since I can't see the structure, but for large files like File:1_42_polytope_7-cube.svg removing space might make sence, but different experince, different opinion.
@Masumrezarock100: I personally find the word "Cleanup" to general and should be more specified (for other users checking your Special:ListFiles/Masumrezarock100 ).
Because I saw "Holy cow! This SVG has 235 errors! I will try to make it valid.".
  1. All files in Category:SVG_maps_using_data_from_the_Australian_Bureau_of_Statistics have around 1000Errors (the counter stops at 998), I don't know why File:Liberty_Bell_icon.svg has 3551Erros and those files should not be validated, since the render correclty
  2. Generally do not make files valid (and minimizing even less), see User:JoKalliauer/Optimization for details
  3. If you want to validate svgs you could use https://tools.wmflabs.org/svgworkaroundbot/ (till 1MB), this (but also for larger files) could also be done by User:SVGWorkaroundBot atomatically. (But validating is out of scope.)

@JoKalliauer: I am getting a blank file for some reason when extracting PNG from this fake SVG using toollabs:svgworkaroundbot. Could it be that it is a bug? Masum Reza📞 22:23, 19 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Masumrezarock100: I just tried to extract https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ef/Barry_logo.svg with toollabs:svgworkaroundbot and I got Barry_logos.svg.png (26 868 Bytes).
I noticed sometimes toollabs:svgworkaroundbot does not on toollabs, also the code is correct (I don't know why). There might also be bugs in the code, but for https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ef/Barry_logo.svg it should work. Can you please retry it? (I did not change any code.)

I could reproduce the bug, I have to check.  — Johannes Kalliauer - Talk | Contributions 09:18, 20 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, my mistake, it worked on my local code and than I uploaded the wrong file.
However, @Masumrezarock100: it should work now for File:Barry_logo.svg.

Welcome, Dear Patroller![edit]

Counter Vandalism Unit

Hi Ainz Ooal Gown/Archives/2019,

You now have the Patroller right and may call yourself a patroller! Please take a moment to read the updated Commons:Patrol to learn how Patrolling works and how we use it to fight vandalism.

As you know already, the patrolling functionality is enabled for all edits, not just for new-page creations. This enables us to keep track of, for example, edits made by anonymous users here on Commons.

We could use your help at the Counter Vandalism Unit. For example by patrolling an Anonymous-edits checklist and checking a day-part.

If you have any questions please leave a message on the CVU talkpage or ask for help on IRC in #wikimedia-commons.

Edit Summary[edit]

When editing a page on Commons there is a small field labeled "Edit Summary" or "Summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the Edit Summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the Edit Summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's name in the Edit Summary field - please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you.  — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 12:35, 20 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Lol. Man I know what a edit summary is. You didn't have to tell me step by step. And I do give edit summary when saving non-minor edits to pages. If you are talking about my edits to discussion page, then I'll have to say that I never found it helpful nor interesting to fill out edit summary after editing a discussion page. I am too lazy for that.😉 Masum Reza📞 12:52, 20 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Masumrezarock100, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

  1. You edited User:Masumrezarock100/common.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
  2. Though, that change appears to introduce 3 new jshint issues — the page's status is now having ERRORS. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
  3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding {{ValidationOptOut|type=all}} to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!

On closer inspection.. You're not using DelReqHandler, are you? Doing it all by hand? - Alexis Jazz ping plz 15:53, 23 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. importScript method is a simple way to import local scripts. But it has been deprecated and it will be removed from Mediawiki core someday. And if that happens, many scripts will stop working (same thing happened with mw.ui.icon and editToken). It is better to use the non-deprecated method, mw.loader.load to import scripts and stylesheets. That is why I have been migrating to mw.loader.load per mw:ResourceLoader/Migration_guide_(users)#How_to_migrate. Also I've decided that I won't be using DelReqHandler, because of some reasons (it's layout and code are bad, and I don't really need to use it). Masum Reza📞 23:10, 23 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Why add BadPDF to File:DAL_Love_Field.pdf?[edit]

Your addition of BadPDF tag to File:DAL_Love_Field.pdf does not make sense; the PDF is entirely vector, not graphic, there is nothing to extract, and not only that but I already have an open question on Commons_talk:File_types about converting vector PDFs to SVG for upload. (That nobody seems to want to answer.) SilverbackNettalk 04:19, 26 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Oh right. I should have checked further. That PDF have only one page and entirely contains a diagram. So I wanted someone to extract a SVG from it. SVGs are often preferred over PDFs because they do not require any other viewer. Most modern browsers can client-side render SVG files but opening PDF file often require a PDF/document viewer. Thanks to Eatcha for converting the PDF file to SVG. Masum Reza📞 04:46, 26 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@SilverbackNet: If you check the categories {{BadPDF}} categorizes in Category:Files_with_inappropriate_PDF_formatwith following with following subcategories:
  1. Category:Files_with_inappropriate_PDF_format
    1. Category:PDF that should be converted to SVG‎‎ (2 K, 404 D)
      1. Category:VectorPDF that can be converted to SVG‎ (58 D)
      2. Category:FakePDF that should use vector graphics‎ (2 D)
    2. Category:PDF with embedded raster graphics‎ (1 K, 9 D)
      1. Category:Fake PDF‎ (1 K, 1 S, 32 D)
        1. Category:FakePDF that should use vector graphics‎ (2 D)
User:Masumrezarock100 used it correclty according to the itention of the creator @Magog the Ogre: see User_talk:Magog_the_Ogre/Archive_27#{{BadPDF}}. (I harldy never see such a strong wording from an administrator/checkuser.) I think we schould change the {{BadPDF}}, to clarify it better.
From a categorizing point of view (not from an extracting point of view) it is difficult/time-consuming to distinglish between Category:VectorPDF that can be converted to SVG‎ and Category:PDF with embedded raster graphics‎.
@Masumrezarock100: PDFs can be convertet to SVG on https://tools.wmflabs.org/convert/ for example (I personally use Inkscape-Batch-Skript).  — Johannes Kalliauer - Talk | Contributions 19:57, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You can also tag the files with {{Vectorextract PDF to SVG}}, which JoKalliauer created. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 03:30, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@JoKalliauer: Thanks for telling me about that PDF converter. I was using Chrome and I tried to convert File:Three_Sofa_Deluxe_illustrator.pdf to SVG using that tool but for some reason, it just redirected me to https://tools.wmflabs.org/convert/#cantmove and didn't convert the PDF file. Guess the tool doesn't support large PDFs. Rillke probably needs to work on it more. Anyway I still got the job done by using another online PDF converter.
@Magog the Ogre: Great! I didn't know about this template until now. But both templates looks similar to me. Why not merge them? Masum Reza📞 04:25, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. Just dropping a note to thank you for reverting those nonsense on my user page. Just to let you know, please refrain from engaging unless needed. Why? Just a simple reason that he'll probably harass you if you engage him on several occasions. He's also partly the cause of why my talk pages on meta, zh and zh-yue are semi-protected temporarily. First, while you were entirely correct to close my edit conflict DR here, it is polite, in such cases, to copy my comments to the new DR.

Second, rather than sending all of the readers of the DR here to read the uploader's comment, it is helpful if you copy his comments into the DR, as I have done, and then answer his question there, as I also have done. .     Jim . . . Can you help with JS ?[edit]

Hey Masumrezarock100,

I tweaked FastCCI to show files from COM:FV, I'm not a web-developer but still, I managed to get the work done. The tweaked code is available at User:Eatcha/CCI.js, I can't fix the position of FV image and of course, I can't just start to learn it(JS) to fix that little problem. Include the tweaked code to you common.js and open Category:Featured videos, the left one is the tweaked one. I want the FV logo not to hide the star logo(also called FP logo) Best, -- Eatcha (talk) 05:13, 30 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am not a experienced JS coder so I can not help with JS. DannyS712 might be able to help you more. That said, I picked up a couple of things on how to improve it. Your script uses mw.util.wikiScript to send an API GET request mw.Api could be used instead. Also jQuery UI is deprecated, so you should migrate to OOUI ASAP. If the module gets removed, your script and other scripts that still uses this script would stop working. Regards, Masum Reza📞 00:11, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I forgot about the CSS page, now it displays as it's required. -- Eatcha (talk) 06:10, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
