200 drawings

Hi, I have just finished uploading the 200-th 3-view drawing of airplane. Now I'll relax a bit, but if somebody ask me for a new one, please let me know it. Kaboldy (talk) 12:56, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

Daily gallery updater has failed on Commons:WikiProject Aviation/recent uploads

Hello. This message is to inform you that a daily gallery in your userspace, Commons:WikiProject Aviation/recent uploads, has failed. Due to software limitations, the bot has a hard upper-limit of about 6000 files per day (including overflow galleries), while your gallery had 24475 files.

This usually happens because a gallery is too broad, encompassing too many subcategories. Please review the logs here and request that a subcategory be excluded, or narrow your category choice(s).

Please make your request for removal within 4 days, or your gallery will be subject to removal.

Thank you. Magog the Ogre (via OgreBot (talk) 03:20, 29 October 2018 (UTC))

Just to note that I've nominated Commons:WikiProject Aviation/recent uploads for deletion - please comment at Commons:Deletion requests/Commons:WikiProject Aviation/recent uploads if you're interested. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 14:57, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

Vintage aviation photographs on Flickr

I found some treasures recently uploaded to Flickr, see [1]. I don't intend to upload these myself (except for a few from Farnborough 1986 that I've already uploaded, but not properly categorized). - 4ing (talk) 11:10, 14 June 2022 (UTC)

Hello!

If someone has a bit time left: In this category are many aircraft not identified. Help is highly appreciated. Thank you! Best regards, High Contrast (talk) 22:25, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

@High Contrast: It has been almost a decade and of course the images do not get sorted out once the aircraft is identified, so it is hard to tell if this remains an issue or not. If there is a group still to be done, if you can identify them in a separate category or something, maybe we can help finish it up. Josh (talk) 05:21, 22 December 2022 (UTC)

Current/Former Fleet categories

Should we have categories that organize aircraft registrations by whether they are are current or not? Discussion is underway at Commons:Categories for discussion/2018/08/Category:Current Airbus aircraft of Tunisair and affects a lot of airline categories, so I'm hopeful that some aviation folks can weigh in. Josh (talk) 17:28, 3 August 2018 (UTC)

Some days ago I found Current/Former Fleet categories in Category:ASL Airlines Belgium and I thought that it's just a mistake, so i just delete them. But after that I found similar in Category:Pegas Fly and found that user Ardfern created them. I think, that over time this information will become outdated if no one controls it, so we shouldn't have to use these categories --DS28 (talk) 07:06, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
@DS28: When I last saw this issue discussed, there were a couple of editors who spoke very strongly about being committed to keeping it up to date. I agree with you that they seem inevitable to fall into disrepair, those that are not maintained should be deleted. Probably should put the cat in question up for CfD in case someone is interested in getting it back current again. Also, sorting by current/former service should not remove items from other more conventional sorting trees. Josh (talk) 05:05, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
@Josh I agree. I've tried to left both trees (current/former and usual), but it's not easy, and a lot of aircraft categories are inside only current/former.
For example you may check Category:Fokker_70_of_Alliance_Airlines and tell me what do you think right to do with that - I added VH-NUU (aircraft)‎, but it doesn't looks good. DS28 (talk) 12:22, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
@DS28: Yeah, that's a problem when a user essentially has to know whether an aircraft is current or former before they can find it, and is at the core of my opposition to these categories--I don't mind them so much if they were just additional categorization, but I don't agree with them replacing the normal listings. Have a peek at the category now, I have grouped the current/former into a 'by status' index. All Alliance F70s are now listed together so the normal user can find them as they might expect without needing to know their status, but those looking to sort by status can also do so, and the current and former categories still appear on aircraft that are maintained by those committed to doing so. Let me know what you think of how it looks now. Josh (talk) 21:50, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
@Josh I agree with every your statement, thanks for being active on this issue. "By status" is definitely better option. Thank you, I will use that method of grouping and it makes my participate in Commons easier. DS28 (talk) 02:46, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
