Article(s): en:Coat of arms of Croatia, all sorts of Croatian/Dalmatian history articles etc. etc..

Request
Hello guys, I'm hoping someone could take the time to add tongues to those three lions above. They're supposed to be "langued in gules" as its put in heraldic jargon, that is to say, they're supposed to have red tongues. Thank you in advance! --DIREKTOR (TALK) 10:12, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
Graphist opinion(s)
No time is needed, Commons already has some "langued gules" images, I've added them to the gallery above. Maproom (talk) 19:41, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
@Maproom: No wait a sec, what I've posted are the lions used officially on the Croatian coat of arms. We can't really use the elaborate, "baroque" 19th century lion heads for contemporary reference, as its not what's used today. The only catch is that the lions ought to have tongues for the historically-accurate version. I'm working on expanding the article and would really appreciate some help, whenever someone has the time and the inclination. No rush. --DIREKTOR (TALK) 21:21, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
✓ Done, see end of gallery above. If you want any adjustments done, length of tongues, colour of tongues, etc., just let me know, that will be easy. But I fear it will get deleted soon, that is the usual result when I upload an image that I've derived from another image already on commons. I have not been able to find a way of specifying the copyright in a way acceptable to the authorities here. Maproom (talk) 17:11, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
I've copied over the licence/permission template from the source image. Those might make it stick. --Tagishsimon (talk) 22:15, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

@Grasmat: - There is a SVG version of the Malle CoA with an inescutcheon. Doesn't this fit? -- MaxxL - talk 11:36, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

@MaxxL: - No, this is a different coats of arms, wich Westmalle. Westmalle was on January 1, 1977 in Malle. Malle was assigned a different coats of arms. Grasmat (talk) 15:41, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
@Grasmat: - I guess that this is now the real Westmalle CoA. -- MaxxL - talk 20:37, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Heater

This section was archived on a request by: Janweh64 (talk) 21:03, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

Article(s): en:Coat of arms of Croatia, en:Croatia proper, etc.

Request
Should anyone have the time, we would appreciate if the Croatian checkerboard coat of arms (first image) could be done on a "heater" escutcheon or shield - the shape visible in the second image above. There should be no second border around the shield (like in some versions), and red squares should be first on either side. Thank you very much in advance for your effort (if anyone takes it up :)). --DIREKTOR (TALK) 21:39, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
P.s. There is this image, but the fields are rectangular - and they really must be squares or its not the Croatian coa. Further, I would personally appreciate it if the checkerboard was introduced on the same vector model as seen in the second image above.
The idea is to neatly and uniformly break down the (somewhat complicated) Croatian arms for the reader.--DIREKTOR (TALK) 21:47, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
Graphist opinion(s)

@DIREKTOR: - An interesting challenge you have put here. The base of the CoA is an array of 5x5 squares. They fit in a Spanish shield nicely. But by its proportion it is impossible to fit a 5x5 square array in a longish 4x3 heater shield. -- MaxxL - talk 11:24, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

What does the blazon actually say? If it's "checqué gules and argent", then the exact number of squares in the array does not matter. Maproom (talk) 17:28, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
I don't know where you read that blazon, what I read is the official blazon dated 1990-12-21. Even the English Wikipedia states:“The main coat of arms is a checkerboard (chequy) that consists of 13 red and 12 silver (white) fields. It's also informally known in Croatian as šahovnica ("chessboard", from šah, "chess").” -- MaxxL - talk 18:52, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Oh the exact number of fields is pretty irrelevant, historically speaking. What does have significance are the fields in the uppermost row: they have to be red on both ends. Or rather, technically they don't (from an exclusively heraldic perspective), technically they're interchangeable. Sadly though, the version where they're white was used by Croatian Nazis during WWII, and since then there's been a political meaning there.
In short, I wouldn't worry about the number of fields. Historically it really is just a "checqué gules and argent", and it doesn't technically matter how many fields there are or which colour's where. It'd just be great if the fields are about the (relative) size as in the modern-day arms, and if they begin and end with red in the uppermost row (don't want to poke any Balkan hornets' nests).
P.s The border should probably be red. --DIREKTOR (TALK) 00:23, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Final batch of Croatian arms in need of vectorization. I might be pushing it, but these are definitely the last ones.
(The reason Dubrovnik has these two coats of arms is, interestingly - the bleed of blue ink that was common in old documents. The blue ink coloured the white stripes and, as centuries went by, people erroneously thought that was the coa. The error was only recently discovered. The historically-accurate Slavonian arms have a proper brown marten as seen above; the black, less-detailed marten is what's present in the 1991 Croatian arms, out of size constraints I imagine.)
Anyway, this is all of them. As before, I'm just putting them out there if someone has the time. @MaxxL: thanks a lot for your work above! Once this is all done I'll use GlobalReplace to introduce SVG variants across projects. --DIREKTOR (TALK) 03:16, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi, I'm an active participant of the Wikiversity project, and I think there is something about the current Wikiversity logo that could be improved. I'd like to make a proposal to update the logo, but unfortunately I'm not skilled enough to do the logo myself, so I resort to you. Basically, what I notice is that the current logo has the "dome" sort of facing down, as if it were a giant sphere rising from behind the building, rather than a dome sitting on top of the building. Once you notice, the way to fix it becomes obvious. The sphere should be "rotated" so that the equator is parallel to the top of the building (a bit like this but maybe with the lines above the equator curved upwards, due to perspective). Makes sense? Can anyone do this, pretty please? Thanks!!! --Felipe (talk) 15:02, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
Graphist opinion(s)

I agree with you. I gave this a try, but it's really not the solution but just one approach, an idea or concept to consider. I changed additional things that I find not ideal in the current version, which is probably too much of change. My decisions were:

  • In my opinion, the proportions of the logo could be less wide and thick. So I changed the proportions somewhat. This might not be desirable, not sure.
  • I prefer no perspective at all in such a logo for the sake of simplicity.
  • This being among few project logos with gradients, I don't think they add anything here.

So this leads me to this: . Cheers, — Julian H. 16:14, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

@Julian Herzog: Awesome, thanks for the quick reply! I fully agree with you about perspective and gradients not being necessary for such a simple logo. However, I'm afraid that the change in proportions and the addition of color will spark too much unnecessary debate. If you keep it as similar as possible to the current one, it will surely pass smoothly. --Felipe (talk) 18:05, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
@Felipe Schenone: I guess that would then look somewhat like this: . — Julian H. 08:29, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
@Julian Herzog: It's perfect!!! I posted the proposal here and I will spread it through the Wikiversity mailing list. If you can think of any other relevant channels, please let me know! Thanks, thanks, thanks!!! --Felipe (talk) 22:18, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
@Julian Herzog: Hi again! The proposal for a new logo is gaining support, but one user complained that the thickness of the line of latitude should be the same as the line of longitude. In the first logo that you posted, the thickness of the lines was the same. Did you change your mind for some reason? Would it be too much to ask to produce a third version, with equal thickness in the lines? Thanks again! --Felipe (talk) 03:57, 12 February 2017 (UTC)
@Felipe Schenone: Sure, here you go: . The reason why I made the vertical bars wider is that there is no line of the narrow width in the logo that is vertical, that somehow made them look too thin to me. — Julian H. 11:13, 12 February 2017 (UTC)
@Julian Herzog: It's perfect man, thanks again! I updated the proposal with the new vesion and it has gained another supporter! --Felipe (talk) 11:28, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

Need SVG quality image for Sha-family

File:Sha-family.png need SVG quality image.

Article(s): Template:SHA-box used in many places, as you can check in the file page and template page.

Request
You need to vetorize the "grey lock icon" (or reuse similar one), and can use "blur and cut" of File:SHA-1.svg to compose the Sha-family.svg. --Krauss (talk) 18:28, 24 February 2017 (UTC)

Graphist opinion(s)

@Krauss: Uploaded new version of the png-file with transparent background. Also as SVG for further use. ✓ Done -- Uwe Martens (talk) 23:06, 24 February 2017 (UTC)

Hi @Krauss, thanks! But please review as my instruction, the blur is necessary (sha1 is not a representant of all sha family and was corrupted!)... And as using good tools, perhaps you can produce "S H A" title in arc. --Krauss (talk) 10:54, 25 February 2017 (UTC)
@Krauss: It doesn't make sense to create a blurred vector graphic, because the blurred items gets pixelized again. -- Uwe Martens (talk) 13:23, 25 February 2017 (UTC)

@Guy Macon: Added new data directly in source code. ✓ Done -- Uwe Martens (talk) 12:58, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

@Uwe Martens: Looks great. Thanks! What program are you using to compile the source code into a graphic? I would very much like to learn how to do that myself instead of having to ask for help. --Guy Macon (talk) 04:23, 27 February 2017 (UTC)
Thanks, Guy Macon! It's not necessary to compile the graphic. You can edit the source like a normal HTML-website in which text editor ever (I used Microsoft Expression Web for highlightening the tags). The browser is calculating the graphic himself out of the vector data while visiting the website containing the graphic. What you have to do is adjusting the width and height of the file and the length of the lines, after adding the new graphs for 2015/16 of cause. First attempt I made with Adobe Illustrator - that works perfect for editing normal graphics, but in this case it destroyed the structure of the source code completely, so the multi-language section was deleted. I know, in AI has it several options to store a SVG (as SVG version 1.0 or 1.1), but is was easier and better to edit it directly in the source. -- Uwe Martens (talk) 18:50, 27 February 2017 (UTC)

How simple! All I had to do was open the .svg file (not one of the .png files) in a text editor (I used VIM but I tested it and Windows Notepad works fine), and it showed me...

 <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
 <svg version="1.1" id="Ebene_1" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" x="0px" y="0px"
 	 width="600px" height="842.553px" viewBox="12 -785.504 581 842.553" enable-background="new 12 -785.504 581 842.553"
 	 xml:space="preserve">
 	<title>Wikimedia Foundation financial development</title>

...and so forth.

Clearly I can edit it and save as a new .svg file. Thanks! --Guy Macon (talk) 19:20, 27 February 2017 (UTC)

Yeah! Just take the old version and the new one and see, what I have changed. The id="Ebene_1" can be deleted of cause, I just took the header of the AI-version, because it had perfect values for width and height. Uploaded the corrected version for cosmetic reasons. -- Uwe Martens (talk) 20:28, 27 February 2017 (UTC)
I really appreciate the help. I have neen studying and am well on my way towards learning the ins and outs of editing svg files by hand.
I have been playing around with editing a local copy of this file that I saved to my desktop (I saved the .svg and opened it with a text editor). Right now I am trying to figure out how to change the colors of the bars. Where are the colors defined?
When I search the web for tutorials they either talk about using fill or about doing it through CSS. The obvious (searching for "red" or "fill") didn't help. I am very familiar with how CSS works in the context of HTML, but I don't see anything that looks like inline CSS or like invoking an external CSS file. Am I missing something? --Guy Macon (talk) 17:21, 1 March 2017 (UTC)

This SVG-file is also defined by CSS in the section of the header at line 6 with 3-digit hexadecimal numbers, so with 12 bit depth, each number for red, green and blue (#RGB):

<style type="text/css">
text {stroke-width:0;font-family:Arimo,Liberation Sans,Arial,sans-serif}
.mid {text-anchor:middle}
.bar {stroke-width:10}
.rev {stroke:#0a0}
.exp {stroke:#f00}
.ass {stroke:#000}
</style>

#000 is black, #fff is white. You can also use 24 bit colors with 6 digits - here is a color picker. The variables you want to change are .rev, .exp and .ass.

@Mjroots: ,  Request taken by Lommes (talk) 09:46, 30 April 2017 (UTC), but I have a question. With "was created in 1951", you mean the flag that is called "1951-1953 Ensign" on the webpage you linked? This one? Or do you mean the one at the top of the page. Note the wheel has a white (1951-1953) or no white (top of page) border, and the crown is either the Imperial crown (1951-1953) or the Crown of St Edward (top of page). The crowns can be seen here in more detail. --Lommes (talk) 09:46, 30 April 2017 (UTC)

@Lommes: - Well spotted, looks like both will need creating, as Empire Fowey was in service past 1953. Mjroots (talk) 09:53, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
@Mjroots: I think this is ✓ Done. If you read the text (on the webpage you linked) closely, it says the flag with the Edward crown was actually never used, only that they should have changed it with Elizabeth taking the crown. But as Wikipedia does not deal in Alternative History, this is probably irrelevant. Please tell me if the flag is okay, or if you want any further changes. If not, please mark this section as {{Resolved}}. If you still want the other flag, please open a new request, so we can discuss whether the other flag deserves to be here. I also have not the font but some letters are very similar to existings. The small font seems hand painted. -- User: Perhelion 17:41, 13 May 2017 (UTC)
@Lommes: Word "PROGRAM" doesn't look good – it looks like each glyph has different distance from baseline, glyphs have "angles" – I think some node types are not set properly. Also R in "WORK" doesn't look good. --jdx Re: 18:09, 13 May 2017 (UTC)
Yes thats what I meant. Someone with font and glyph knowledge should do this. I could try this too if it is too hard for anybody... I know it can be very time consuming to due this font thing. What I meant to the small font is, that there no font family exists. -- User: Perhelion 19:27, 13 May 2017 (UTC)
@Perhelion and Jdx: I tweaked the letterforms a bit to make them look more like the original. If someone feels competent to further improve, please, be my guest, and take over... Alternatively, if you give me further (and more detailed) criticism, I will try to incorporate it. cheers --Lommes (talk) 13:11, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
Looks much better (but a good eye see the hand drawing). The main remaining criticism is the letter G and M on the small text. The thickness should be more (nearly) unique on the hook. The M should be more symmetric and with real round bows. The bow on the big P should be more round too. -- User: Perhelion 15:06, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
@Jdx and Perhelion: completely redrawn the "G" and "M" of "PROGRAM", small tweaks to the "P" of "WPA". --Lommes (talk) 19:20, 14 May 2017 (UTC)

I've done quite a few knot images, but these seem to have more to do with weaving. (I don't see knots in the Persian and Turkish images.) The Spanish one has loose overhand knots, but I don't really understand where the ends come from or go to... AnonMoos (talk) 04:43, 12 May 2017 (UTC)
Carpet knots (as you say, used in weaving what is called "knotted pile") are more just loops around the weaving rather than traditional knots. It's a very short loop of thread and what is significant is how many of the ground threads it wraps around and how. A Spanish knot is something like a pretzel wrapped around one strand of warp (vertical) thread. Does that help? - PKM (talk) 21:47, 12 May 2017 (UTC)

4 Game Boy logos -- SVG-ize and add transparency

Images of DS/3Ds logos (for comparison purposes only)

Article(s): w:en:Game Boy line, w:pt:Linha Game Boy, and w:es:Línea Game Boy

Request
Please SVG-ize these 4 logos and convert their white backgrounds to transparent backgrounds.
The transparency would improve the appearance of the table in w:en:Game Boy line, w:pt:Linha Game Boy, and w:es:Línea Game Boy, because the current white background is contrasting with the gray color that is used in the "wikitable"-style table headers. (these articles contain other GB logos, but the ones that I did not mention are already SVG files with transparent background)
I am just asking for SVG-ization because these images already have the box saying "This logo image could be recreated using Vector graphics as an SVG file." and maybe it could be part of the process of removing the white background anyway, but for the current stated purpose, I feel that having a transparent background takes precedence over SVG-izing; I guess you don't need to SVG-ize if you don't want, though that would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Daniel Carrero (talk) 01:38, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
Graphist opinion(s)
@Daniel Carrero: Please tell me if File:Nintendo Game Boy Logo.svg is good enough as a basis? I will then do the other ones. Best, --Lommes (talk) 10:50, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for asking. :) Unfortunately, I've found two problems with File:Nintendo Game Boy Logo.svg: 1) the image seems to have a white background, while I'd think a transparent background would be best; 2) the image has thick invisible spaces around it, while it would be best to have no space around it.
I added a gallery of DS/3DS logos above, which should serve as a good basis. These DS/3DS logos look great to me and fit well the tables in en:Nintendo DS line and en:Nintendo 3DS line. I didn't include other 3DS logos here because they are not in Commons, or they are not SVG or they have space around it too, so I don't think they serve as equally great examples. --Daniel Carrero (talk) 12:30, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

@Daniel Carrero: sorry, the "SP" is not really good, but i could not find any hi-res basis for creating it. the "pocket" is quite okay, I think. I will do the "LIGHT" later, have to go now. If you have any request for changes, please.... --Lommes (talk) 17:44, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
@Lommes: OK, thank you. I added your corrected logos so far to w:en:Game Boy line, w:pt:Linha Game Boy, and w:es:Línea Game Boy. --Daniel Carrero (talk) 17:53, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
@Daniel Carrero: Finished, i think. ✓ Done - If you have no further request, please do me a favour: Go through the original (PNG/GIF/JPG) files and look where they are used. They are likely used in more articles, and can be replaced there as well. --Lommes (talk) 17:58, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

Replace electric motor by electric stove

Article(s):Residual-current device

Request
3-phase electric motor is used as load, which is very bad example because load is symmetric there and it doesn't use neutral wire; also 3-phase electric motors are very rare in direct contact with human. Please replace electric motor by electric stove in this image. Second mistake is symblol of fuses above RCD - there should be direct line inside of rectangle between contacts, see fuse symbols. Thanks! --Dmitry G (talk) 12:37, 15 January 2017 (UTC)
Graphist opinion(s)

@Dmitry G: To be able to do this I would need more information from you, remember that we are graphic workers not experts on your favorite subject.
At commons I couldn't find a symbol for an electrical stove so you would have to show me which you want.
In the gif file you will have to show me which is the 3-phase electric motor to be replaced.
Also you will have to show me which is the fuse symbol that should be edited, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 17:02, 10 May 2017 (UTC)

@Ivi104: Thank you for creating the SVG. While transparent background is great, can you color the logo white? The show has used white font color for the logo. --George Ho (talk) 10:03, 14 February 2017 (UTC)
@George Ho: I've uploaded a new version with the background parameter set to white, but my browser didn't acknowledge the parameter, so I added a white rectangle in the back of the image. Be sure to bypass your cache in order to view the newest version. --Ivi104 (talk) 10:36, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

Much better, Ivi104. Nevertheless, the font border is still too thick compared to that (different screenshot). --George Ho (talk) 15:16, 29 April 2017 (UTC)
Well... I meant the outline SVG version. --George Ho (talk) 15:17, 29 April 2017 (UTC)
@George Ho: , I am not Ivi104, I am User:Lommes. :-) If you look closely at the youtube video you linked, there actually is no outline. Instead below the white logo, there is a black logo shifted a bit to the right and the bottom, as if it were a shadow. There is no black to the top and the left side of the white logo. Do you want something like this? --Lommes (talk) 22:36, 29 April 2017 (UTC)

Oh, my apologies, Lommes. ;-) Well... you can create a separate file, just in case of doubt. Then we'll see what happens. --George Ho (talk) 23:13, 29 April 2017 (UTC)

@Seagull123: I will make a svg version so it's easier to update. There is a few thing I need your help with;
  • Is there any real purpose on giving the date Aug each year, more than that probably the first change was then. Would it not be more logical to stick to the normal year and months order?
  • I will need to have all the month/year when each change was, including the last one.
  • Please ping me when you replay, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:28, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
@Goran tek-en: I don't know why they are all on August, and yes, it probably would be better to stick to the normal months and years. The changes are at WP here, and at the MI5 website here, it only needs the international terrorism threat; not the Northern Ireland one. Thank you! Seagull123 (talk) 17:41, 6 June 2017 (UTC)
@Seagull123: Now there is a draft to look at. It's really hard with the levels that lasted for just a few days. I'm aware that the dates is only really visible when you have a larger png so it can be enlarged. The dates are also a complement to be able to understand the levels with just a few days. Give me feedback, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:31, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
@Goran tek-en: thank you, that looks good! But would it be possible to have slashes or dots or something in the dates so they look more obviously like dates? (like 2017/06/21?) Artefacts in SVG that are not present in Inkscape or Firefox but when rendered in Commons

Article(s): will replcae the image in de:Bundesministerium and other articles

Request
When you open my SVG in Firefox or Inkscape it looks fine. But in WikiCommons it shows some strange artefacts, Black rectangles and a brown one. Can you erase them? My Inkscape doesn't show them - at least I cannot see them. --Pietz (talk) 20:32, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
Graphist opinion(s)
@Pietz: It appears your SVG file, as created by Inkscape, contains flowed text (I confirmed by checking the source for a <FlowRoot> tag in a text editor). Commons has a known bug with flowed text which adds a black rectangle artefact when it encounters flowed text. (same Commons help link auf Deutsch) One tool I have found quite helpful when checking how Commons will deal with SVG files is Jarry's SVG Check. It's worth bookmarking if you're planning to author any SVG files for Commons; this way, you can check how Commons will render it before committing to uploading a new file. One limitation is the SVG Check doesn't handle the <switch> tag, so if you're making an internally-translated file, that ends up being some trial-and-error effort.

I propose change the color of the title to #000000; and the subtitle ("El diccionario en castellano [...]") to #4D4D4D. Cheers! --Ivanics (talk) 23:08, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
@MarcoAurelio: , @Peter Bowman: , @Ivanics: I have used File:Wiktionary logo blueprint.svg as a base and changed the text to your desired. If you read in the description of that file you can see that this is a base file to keep all the different logos the same. So your requested logo with four text lines doesn't follow this and changing the colors would break even more against this. I have tried to find some guidelines similar to this for wiktionary but I haven't been able to find it.
If you know of a page like that please provide it here. If you don't know of one I'm afraid I don't feel happy to change the colors. Please ping me when you replay, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 16:23, 1 August 2017 (UTC)

Dinosaurs SVG cleanup

I am new SVG editor and I created this SVG file using Inkscape. However, when I upload this file to the Commons there is a black rectangular appearing above the text in legend ("Argentinosaurus"). I don't know where it comes from because I can't see it in the Inkscape editor. Can any SVG expert here can clean up the file, make it tidier and remove this annoying black rectangular? Thanks. --MathKnight (Talk) 11:46, 10 August 2017 (UTC)

Logo for 15th anniversary of tamil wikipedia

Request
Hi, I am an active user in tamil wikipedia. Please change 10 to 15 as we are going to celebrate our 15th anniversary--Shriheeran (talk) 14:32, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

@Shriheeran and AntanO: The author is still active, did you let him know that? Or can the logo be fully redesigned? -- User: Perhelion 13:28, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
User: Perhelion, Why don't you try to change 10 into 15--Shriheeran (talk) 13:33, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
Because it is a PNG and the numbers are in expensive 3D-style, so I've no draft for this. -- User: Perhelion 13:37, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
Do not make any change in this logo. It's unique logo for 10th anniversary of Tamil Wikipedia. --AntanO 13:40, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
@AntanO: Can you please answer the question or say anything productive to the request!? -- User: Perhelion 14:13, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
The request is from a user, not community or on behalf of the community. Still there is no community consensus to make logo for 15th anniversary or change/redesign the current logo into new. Moreover, the current file is used over 100 files that reflects 10th anniversary. By changing the current logo, could mislead the contents where the logo is used. --AntanO 14:26, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
@AntanO and Perhelion: The thing which I wished was mis-written here. My request is to design a new logo like 10th anniversary logo. My wish was to create a logo for the 15th anniversary of tamil wikipedia as like the 10th anniversary logo. Not to change that but to create another one with Number15. Here just a mis understanding occurred because of my old request. Sorry for that and hope you'll try to create a new logo. To this is a request from me not from Tamil Wikipedia Community. If anyone design any logo then I will suggest those/that logo to our coomunity and get approval. Cheers!--Shriheeran (talk) 15:21, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

Graphist opinion(s)

@The C of E: ✓ Done Used the Image Trace tool from Adobe Illustrator, so it has around 5 MB. No time to draft it from scratch, perhaps somebody else can create it meanwhile. Better ask the high school to get the original. Made it also as transparent GIF, better to use this for the article. -- Uwe Martens (talk) 20:56, 21 June 2017 (UTC)

Hello @Uwe Martens: , it is indeed now in "SVG" format but exact this type of SVG what is absolutely not wanted here. It is a full huge code garbage. As you commented on your talk, I uploaded at minimum a PNG version (see COM:Filetypes #GIF). Another thing is the copyright and source for the GIF, you must specify that it is not your fully work (up-scaling/cutting and conversion made no authorship). @The C of E: -- User: Perhelion 16:42, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
@Perhelion: I have autotraced this SVG with Adobe Illustrator CC 2017 from an existing photo in the best way it was possible! Perhaps I could take another photo, but I requested the original file at the administration of the high school. Why redraw the whole coat of arms, if they simply can send us their version for upload in Commons? For questions to the copyright see the introduction of The C of E! -- Uwe Martens (talk) 16:52, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
@Uwe Martens: If you get a better version from the school, superb. @Copyright: it seems you misunderstand the situation (and asserted I have overlooked something again), you claimed authorship and declared free copyright by you although it is unknown. -- User: Perhelion 17:00, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
@Perhelion: Sorry, but your uploaded version as PNG was really poor! I exported it now directly from my retouched TIF. Feel free to correct the copyright at the other files. I'll do so after I got the original from the high school. -- Uwe Martens (talk) 17:16, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
It seems you kidding a bit, it was not as poor as you GIF and SVG and I also had no TIFF source. However go ahead. -- User: Perhelion 17:21, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
Hello @Uwe Martens, I've cleaned up a bit. But the file is still much too large with more than 3 MB. I have tested the code, which is now valid. Regards, MagentaGreen (talk) 18:07, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
@MagentaGreen: Thanks! But there are white spots visible now. I will upload a better version after I got a usable file from the High School. Anyway, I don't think, that this file is sooo important to spent so much time for it! -- Uwe Martens (talk) 18:13, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
White spots? Where? In your browser or illustrator? In the new Chrome and old Opera everything looks fine. MagentaGreen (talk) 18:21, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
@MagentaGreen: Oh yes, sorry, the white spots appear also in my previous version (Mozilla Nightly). Let's wait for the original. -- Uwe Martens (talk) 23:37, 23 June 2017 (UTC)

I wonder if there is a quick tool to turn this drawing into an SVG or something. This is an artistic reconstruction of a ruined building on paper, the structure of which is described vaguely and contradictorily in primary sources. Other reconstructions that are made so far (a least the ones available online) are inaccurate and based on misconceptions. I'm not an architect, but I reconstructed it based on the latest consensus in scholarly articles discussing the purpose and general features of the structure, and real-world facts. Yet, the shape of the outer wall (I favored certain primary sources), and the size of the second and third "stories" and the dome are based on speculations by me, I didn't even use a ruler for those. Anyway, this is one possible structure. The other possible reconstruction would feature outer walls similar to the Image #2 above. -- Z 15:05, 1 July 2017 (UTC)

Thank you very much, but do you have any idea what the problem was? I've tried several recommended fonts, but still got problems. Cordially Leif Czerny (talk) 09:01, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
@Kintetsubuffalo: OK do you want the brick wall removed and transparent instead?
What do you men by "perhaps a line drawing"? --Goran tek-en (talk) 14:19, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
Since there is no coloration, I was thinking something like --Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 14:28, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
@Kintetsubuffalo: So why did you write "png of arms only"...
Anyway now we are here. What you show/wish now is more lika a svg drawing but that is so exact, nothing exact exist in this image. It's really really hard to find contour/edges in that image to be able to make an illustration of it. Do you think of a png because it's not that exact?
I'm sorry but I can't see enough contour/edges to be able to redraw it. If you just want the brick wall removed in the png I can do that otherwise some one else has to do this. Hope you understand. --Goran tek-en (talk) 16:11, 10 August 2017 (UTC)

I've made a vectorfile from this coats of arms with te outlines like File:Aurwappen 1937.jpg. According to this source however, its not the arms from "Rothe Erde" but a coalition family crest from Giesen-Hammers. --Rode raaf (talk) 11:38, 14 October 2017 (UTC)

Fix IPA and colors for File:Wiktionary logo-vector es.svg

Request

File:Wiktionary logo-vector es.svg was found to have some little issues:

  • IPA seems incorrect
  • "El diccionario en castellano de contenido libre" text isn't viewable on Vector skin, according to [3]

Wondering if someone would be so kind to fix this little two issues.

Ping User:Ivanics, User:Peter Bowman & User:Goran tek-en.

Regards, —MarcoAurelio 13:52, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

Graphist opinion(s)

@MarcoAurelio: I don't know what IPA stands for and at the linked page I don't really understand what is asked to be changed.
So if you want me to change any letters you have to write them here for me, I don't speak or write Spanish.
For the other thing, what I can do is to check so the image renders properly at Commons. If then some other layout/skin doesn't show something properly I guess that is something for the people who work with those things and as I wrote before, I don't understand Spanish so I can'r read that page. Please ping me if you want to contact me, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 17:01, 17 September 2017 (UTC)

Just get rid of the IPA and the "en castellanto de contenido" part. These were added to imitate the old English Wiktionary logo; that wiki switched to a cleaner design last year. KATMAKROFAN (talk) 03:14, 22 September 2017 (UTC)
And well we're at it, can we replace all the so-called "Wiktionary logos" that can be reproduced by anyone with a HTML composer and a lot of free time with "Scrabble/Mah-Jong" logos? KATMAKROFAN (talk) 03:18, 22 September 2017 (UTC)
I still don't know what IPA means (as I wrote above) so its' hard to remove it. And for you r second remark I don't understand that either, sorry. --Goran tek-en (talk) 15:27, 22 September 2017 (UTC)
For the IPA, he means, I think, the [wik.sjo'na.rjo] 'phonetic' text. Sorry, I don't understand the second comment either. However, this isn't the original requester, who said the IPA "seems incorrect", not that it should be removed - so imho MarcoAurelio should clarify exactly what text should be changed or removed (by typing it here). -- Begoon 16:24, 22 September 2017 (UTC)
Is this what all of you want? --Goran tek-en (talk) 19:10, 22 September 2017 (UTC)

@MarcoAurelio: @Ivanics: @Peter Bowman: Can I get some feedback so we can resolve this. It's your request not mine. --Goran tek-en (talk) 17:37, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

@Goran tek-en: : starting from this, the IPA transcription [wik.sjo'na.rjo] should be changed to [wik.sjoˈna.ɾjo] (notice two differences: the proper ˈ apostrophe and the ɾ character). Moreover, the El diccionario en castellano en contenido libre subscript text is hard to read on a grey background, thus it would be nice if you could make it a bit darker. Kind regards, Peter Bowman (talk) 18:07, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
@MarcoAurelio: @Ivanics: @Peter Bowman: I'm sorry but different people say different things here and it confuses me. If you look at file:Wiktionary logo blueprint.svg it tells us there should really only be two text lines. At this page Wiktionary_logos you can see that it's only the Spanish that has more lines, which is wrong. So actually I don't know what to do, I would like MarcoAurelio to write his meaning here, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 16:48, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
@Goran tek-en: Sorry but I am just the messenger unfortunatelly. I cannot assist much here but to report back what were the objections. I feel @Ivanics and @Peter Bowman will know better what to do, as they're active contributors of the Spanish Wiktionary. I can understand if you decide to give up with this request and I wish I could be of any further help. Sorry, —MarcoAurelio 09:14, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
@Goran tek-en: the SVG graphics resulting from this request should resemble the current logo. Until we initiate a voting process on our local wiki to decide whether to keep the old layout or upgrade to WMF standards, I think this is the most reasonable solution. Peter Bowman (talk) 12:38, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
@Peter Bowman: Now you have the two versions here;
@Goran tek-en: #2 looks good to me, can you upload that? As I see it, we'd keep both logos for the time being (yours + File:Wiktionary-logo-es-new.svg), use the old (but refurbished) layout, and probably start an on-wiki discussion at a later stage regarding future choices. Thanks! Peter Bowman (talk) 19:56, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
@Peter Bowman: I have uploaded a new version but the preview has to be updated also, it can take some time. If you are happy with this please put the code {{section resolved|1=~~~~}} on this request so it can be archived, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 17:37, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

A brighter image

Request
This image is quite dark, could someone brighten it up? --Ymnes (talk) 09:56, 28 October 2017 (UTC)
Ymnes, with requests like this, it sometimes helps to "get the ball rolling" if something is just put up for feedback, changing just one thing at a time for simplicity of discussion, so in the retouch above I've just applied a Photoshop CS6 standard "Midtones Brighter" levels adjustment, and done nothing else.
Please indicate if that's what you are looking for, too much, too little, or if you'd prefer something else doing with it. I think it might stand a little more brightness, but I'd like a reaction first, since you know what you have in mind. I'd hate for us to lose the vivid, contrasting nature of the colours too much, since that's what makes the picture striking. Thanks. -- Begoon 09:55, 31 October 2017 (UTC)

Colorize an SVG

Article(s): Rockville, Maryland

Request
Colorize the SVG based on the PNG provided. I have gone ahead and colorized some of the SVG as much as my limited skillset will allow me. --– Illegitimate Barrister (talk) 02:05, 27 August 2017 (UTC)
Graphist opinion(s)
  • The SVG, apparently traced from the PNG image, which in turn was converted from a JPEG image found at the Rockville, Maryland Web site, is of very low quality, missing 80% of the detail contained in the original engraving of the seal. A hint of this can be found at http://rockvillereports.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/CitySeal.JPG-300x300.jpg, used at http://msa.maryland.gov/msa/mdmanual/37mun/rockville/html/r.html. Unfortunately, that image is too small to be of much use in creating a vector version. It is likely that the "official" JPEG was derived from a vectorized version of the engraving, so trying to create a new vectorized version from it ends up looking like a blurry, speckled, fourth-generation Xerox copy, greatly degraded from the original. The 300-pixel JPEG from rockvillreports.com should be converted to PNG with a transparent background in place of the current PNG image on Wikimedia Commons and forgo an SVG version until such time as a much larger, clearer image of the original engraving can be located for use as a prototype. In the alternative, the City of Rockville might be contacted directly to inquire whether a larger, high-resolution scan of the engraving, say 800x800 pixels, could be made available for use by Wikipedia. — Quicksilver@ 20:11, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
  • There's a much more detailed jpeg than that 300-pixel version, here: [4]. I've converted that to png and replaced File:Seal of Rockville, Maryland.png for now. I've also uploaded File:Seal of Rockville, Maryland.jpg because of mediawiki/imagemagick's habit of blurring png thumbnails, to give the option. At full size mediawiki renders them pretty much identically (compare [5], [6] ensuring you enlarge to full size in your browser), with the exception of the white background, as it should - they are from the same master. When thumbnailed the difference between the rendering of png and jpg becomes apparent, (compare [7], [8]). -- Begoon 01:53, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

Request
Can someone convert these logos to SVG? Then download to Commons.
Details of your request go here… --Zuissii (talk) 16:31, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
Graphist opinion(s)

Zuissii the only logos that can be uploaded to commons have to be either freely license, expired copyright, pubic domain or don't met the threshold of originality. But with those MTV logos, I don't think they qualify to upload based on TOO and would be considered non-free, so they can't be uploaded to commons.

Regarding converting a non-free logo to SVG unfortunately there are a few problems with this type of request. (These rules may vary based on local laws of the wikipedia, but at least for the English wikipedia) The image(s) are non-free, this means in order for us to be able to display them, they have to be uploaded to the English wikipedia and have to use fair use rationality. Because of the fair use requirements we have to use what is considered "low resolution". SVG files they can be scaled up 4000% without distortion since they are vectors. This means that SVG files fail this requirement of "low resolution", which means it fails the fair use requirements so we can't use them. I've seen a guideline though that said one exception to this point (on the English wikipedia), that SVG files can be uploaded as non-free/fair use images only if the SVG file came from the company that owns the copyright. For instance some companies provide branding/press packages you can download that will at times contain vector graphics. Sorry to say that because of the fair use rules we can't (or at least shouldn't) create the SVG files. Sorry I couldn't help you out this time, but feel free to come back to the Graphic Lab for any other requests.- Offnfopt(talk) 17:26, 29 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Are we sure the "Abloy" one is really {{PD-textlogo}}? It looks a bit too intricate to me. Also the colours and font size don't seem quite right on "24". Perhaps altering copyrighted logos like this is not a good idea? -- Begoon 15:07, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Well, to me, the "Abloy" one looks like it could be too creative for {{PD-textlogo}}, but others may disagree. I'll start a discussion at COM:VPC. Even if that's the case it could be hosted locally on wikis that permit fair use (such as en.wiki), provided they use it in an article. -- Begoon 08:30, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

Hei sir I mean the script is good, but if you could make the script bold as this picture right here"Bloch khan (talk) 13:44, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
@Bloch khan: There is sometimes problem with that not all fonts have Bold, Italic in all the different letters that exist in the world. I have marked it Bold but it doesn't make any differens. There are two ways to fix this; the first and best is that you tell me which font that works with Bold in Pashto language, I have no idea. The second way is that I add lines to the letters so they look like bold but it's not the correct way. So give me answer on how you want it, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 14:04, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
Sir the logo is good there is nothing wrong, you can upload the one you maked thanks:)) Bloch khan (talk) 14:14, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
@Bloch khan: Please don't "sir" me, it feels very strange
I have made two versions; normal as before and boldish with lines, tell me which one you want or maybe even more bold, thanks.
Hei little bit more bold, and then you can upload it:)) Bloch khan (talk) 17:03, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
@Bloch khan: When you write here it's a convention that you ad ":" at the beginning (to the left) each time you write something, check the code and you will see. This will create an indent so it's much easier to follow the discussion. Also please use the New Request link above next time, thanks.
Now you can find it here file:Wikivoyage-Logo-ps.svg. If you are happy with this please put the code {{section resolved|1=~~~~}} on this request so it can be archived, thanks.✓ Done --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:09, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
