Info The historical events in 13th century Florence reflect the evolution of the municipal institutions present everywhere and demonstrate how, in reality, the facts were intertwined in the broader struggle between the Empire and the Papacy. Florence was established as a municipality during the 11th century and since then began to expand into the surrounding region. At the beginning, the government was of an aristocratic-consular type but evolved towards a podestarial government, also because the merchant class was developing. In the second half of the 13th century, popular governments alternated. The company had strong divisions. The "fat people", made up of nobles of feudal origin and rich merchants and bankers, were contrasted by the "small people", which included small artisans and shop workers. Even from a political point of view, there were divisions due to the presence of two opposing factions: the Guelphs and the Ghibellines, whose name was officially assumed in 1215. The Guelphs were pro-papal, while the Ghibellines were pro-imperial. Over time this distinction began to mask the rivalry between the noble families. Initially, the Ghibellines led by the Uberti family prevailed in Florence. However, their supremacy was ephemeral because in 1250 after the death of Frederick II, the Guelphs expelled the Ghibellines from the city. Ten years later, in 1260, in the battle of Montaperti, the Ghibellines achieved victory over the Guelphs, whose leaders were sent into exile, thus being able to resume government of the city. After various events, in 1289, the battle of Campaldino in which Florence, mostly Guelph, and Arezzo, mostly Ghibelline, faced each other saw the final defeat of the latter. The victory of the Guelphs did not put an end to the internal conflicts since, subsequently, the Guelphs divided into white Guelphs and black Guelphs. The former were more favorable to the Empire, supporting the idea that the Pope should not interfere in civil affairs, while the latter relied directly on the papal court, also encouraging its extension into Tuscany. In the following century, as happened in other parts of Italy, Florence began to incorporate the smaller municipalities (Pistoia, Cortona, Arezzo)

Info Northwest view upwards to the pediment, rotunda, and dome of the California State Capitol in Sacramento. I wanted to make the bright dome stand out well against a dark blue sky. The camera location was about 30 meters away from the building. Perspective distortion correction has been applied, more would look unnatural. What do you think, is the chosen gallery Architectural elements#Others appropriate or should Architecture/Exteriors#United States be chosen instead? I was a bit unsure, thanks in advance for your feedback. Created, uploaded and nominated by -- Radomianin (talk) 04:49, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support Perfect symmetry, interrupted only by the banners proudly fluttering in the breeze, beautiful lateral light which emphasizes the three-dimensionality of the sculptures, great blue/white contrast which is, again, broken only by the banners. As the photo shows big parts of the building, I would favour Architecture/Exteriors#United States. – Aristeas (talk) 07:28, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support A great shot, well done. I'm just wondering, how many photos will you have tried? And..., if I may ask: with a slower exposure, would you have had flags motion and/or a brighter blue sky? I don't want to criticize your work, it's just curiosity. --Terragio67 (talk) 01:43, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much, Terragio67. My aim was to capture all the details of the white facade's structures in the bright light and contrast them well against a dark blue sky. A narrower aperture and longer exposure resulted in blown highlights and less detail on the white facade. In addition, I didn't have a tripod with me at the time. I took quite a few shots of this detail also at other ISO settings. But there are only three left because I deleted the most useless ones. Best, -- Radomianin (talk) 05:05, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The light has its charm: nice coloration by the evening light of the summer sun, too bad about the cut off left corner, dllu. I was just wondering why I hadn't seen this pretty shot in the category before, until I realized that you had just uploaded it yesterday :) -- Radomianin (talk) 05:08, 10 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good opportunity, very nice :) This shot is charming. Too bad there are people sitting in front of it, but that's hard to avoid on location. -- Radomianin (talk) 05:32, 10 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Info Thousands of gulls come to this beach just after high tide this time of year, just after all the horseshoe crabs have come ashore to lay their eggs. It's a feeding frenzy spectacle. At one point, something spooked them and they took to the air. We were standing out on a mud flat at the time and it sort of felt like they were circling us -- very loud and kind of surreal (and somehow we escaped without getting anything falling on us). This is my effort at capturing the chaotic moment, quickly snapping five frames for a panorama. The vast majority of these birds are laughing gulls (Leucophaeus atricilla), but there are several herring gulls, too, as well as Canada geese and mallards. all by — Rhododendritestalk | 02:56, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support An impressive scene. Reminds me of a famous movie quote: “Have you ever seen so many seagulls? What do you suppose it is?” -- Radomianin (talk) 05:01, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment there are some stitching errors on birds (imo nothing serious). I would be happy to support, if they are addressed. -- Ivar (talk) 19:01, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to Iifar for spotting the flaws that I also missed, and thanks to Rhododendrites for the fixes that have improved the image. Unfortunately there are blue edge repetitions below the wings in many places. They resemble chromatic aberration, but apparently are not. Maybe you can do something about that. Best, -- Radomianin (talk) 05:25, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Stitching photos is difficult and sometimes (as in this case) painful. So that everyone can appreciate your work, it would be nice to see the 5 individual photos. However, I'm curious to see the corrections you're making. --Terragio67 (talk) 02:19, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Weak support In macro photography Sebring12Hrs if you don't stack images with different depths of field you can't have all the animal in focus especially if it is not parallel to the lens. The photo was taken at f13, he couldn't do better--El Golli Mohamed (talk) 10:08, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment You don't have as big a depth of field as you do with focus-stacking though this was not taken with a macro lens. The depth of field is worse if you get in too close. Naturally, an animal in profile will have more of its body in focus than this sort of threequarter view, but Orthoptera legs and Tettigoniidae antennae are very tricky. There is seldom a reason to crop off part of an animal unless the objective is a close up. In this case a tighter crop just to show the head would make it look better, but the head isn't especially sharp so it might not be worth it. Charlesjsharp (talk) 11:51, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, yes it is. I've only done test photos using 50mm macro. I had to get too close, so not much good for the insect macros I take. Charlesjsharp (talk) 17:17, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose The animal was cut (leg and antenna), additionally the problem of depth of field, here you can see an image of a similar subject in focus and not cut --Wilfredor (talk) 12:15, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your message. The focus was at infinity. The house on the hill for example seems in clear focus to me. Maybe because of the huge resolution of the file it was still rendering when you zoomed in? -- Giles Laurent (talk) 19:39, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support Very atmospheric. The mountain and also most of the trees on the plain are in focus. I guess the impression of softness is just due to some haze which may be inevitable at these distances. – Aristeas (talk) 06:58, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your review. I had unfortunately no tripod with me that would allow for a slower shutter speed and smaller aperture (and even if I did, it was a little bit windy and I would not want the vegetation to have motion blur). Also the low DoF is mostly due to the 140mm I was using because the hill was quite far away and with such a zoom it's quite impossible to have the foreground in focus when the foreground is close and that you're focusing at infinity -- Giles Laurent (talk) 13:52, 10 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose Am I crazy? I don't think this is a photograph at all.. Look at how the lines differs in thickness when they're being stretched VS when being compressed... this is just a bunch of lines with a swirl filters on it and blending layers Henrysz (talk) 03:06, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment Not a good file name per Commons guidelines. Please think of such things before you create nominations. Something like "Woman with rainbow-hued body makeup" would be better. Plus the description is inadequate, I'll fix that one for you. --Cart(talk)09:46, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No urgency per se, but people may be more inclined to support the nom if everything is top notch for it, plus nominators tend to forget such "minor" things once they've got their star. --Cart(talk)18:23, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose This image is technically fine, but I don't like the left-leaning nature of the subject. A centered subject is preferable, and a more expressive face is desirable. Overall, not FP in my eyes. WolverineXI10:18, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your review, Wolverine XI. As far as I know, this kind of image composition is often used in documentaries to create suspense and attention. The usual harmonious placement on the right would be the less conspicuous standard. -- Radomianin (talk) 12:35, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Much better thank you! There seems to still be a blurry area close to her right shoulder (so the shoulder that appears on left on the image). There is also a blurry area close to the thumb and close to the other hand. Also, I'm wondering, is it over a table that she's placing her arms or is just a soft surface? Because it is a bit strange how the sort of white table is extremely linear just bellow the body but on the left it becomes a bit wavy (so I think it's a soft surface but that there was a white rectangle applied in postproduction bellow the body) -- Giles Laurent (talk) 17:16, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done Thanks for the quick feedback, Giles. The messy spot on her right shoulder has been fixed and the link above has been updated with the 2nd edit. As for the table, I think it's either a soft blanket or a mattress that the model is resting her elbows on. The area in the middle at chest height was probably straightened afterwards by the creator. Best, -- Radomianin (talk) 18:25, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question There seem to be quite a few problems with the detail; naturally maps are all about accurate detail. It needs consistency of use of Norwegian/English (e.g. Gata/Gate; use of Ceramist (a person) as opposed to Ceramics/Pottery). Accommodation should be Hotel. Huset Vart seems to be a shopping centre in a converted bicycle factory, not a science factory. Do Norwegians translate Vinmonopolet as Liquor Store; the American term? I've heard them using alcohol store or using vinmonopolet when speaking English. Charlesjsharp (talk) 10:41, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just a note from a Scandi. These days the languages (Norwegian/Swedish/Danish) spoken and written by Scandinavians contain a lot of English words and expressions, and most of us don't know the difference between pure American and British English. We learn and use a hodgepodge from what we pick up in media, films and tv shows, and try to adapt what we say so that people will understand the meaning rather than true translations. It's sort of the Scandi version of Pidgin English. Hence we use the real names of companies like 'Vinmonopolet' (in Sweden, Systembolaget has the same function) when speaking among foreign friends, but terms like 'Liquor Store' when describing it to the public in general. --Cart(talk)11:18, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever it should be called, the Vinmonopolet is nowhere near the shown location from 2022, so you'd never find it using this map. Charlesjsharp (talk) 14:13, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Leaning keep, but a few comments/questions: 1) why not go with the svg version? 2) It looks like File:City map stavanger.svg is the user's masterwork (in its 24th edition!). 3) Since it looks like the creator regularly updates these, does promoting it to FP prevent that updating? Would it have to be a separate file? I would support a rare exception to the prohibition on changing FPs once they're promoted in a case like this, since updates are likely just going to make it more accurate (and remove mistakes/out of date locations). — Rhododendritestalk | 17:23, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
