Orbit graph[edit]

Hi, thank you for redrawing one of my graphs! Could you tell me how you did it? Have you used the original file or have you re-created it from scratch? My orbit svg are (a poor) by-product of my program and I never got around to improve the svg generated. Given the number of existing (and to be) graphs I would like, with your permission, to include this transformation in future graphs if feasible. Eurocommuter 17:40, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

COA of polish-lithuanian union (reply from pl-wiki)[edit]

Hi! Thanks for opinion about my picture - I'm doing my best, however last time I have many other things to do :(

I don't think that your version of COA looks worse, but please note that picture of White Eagle in your version comes from present-day coat of arms of Poland - used (without crown, and with some little changes) since World War II, so people of Polish-Lithuanian Union couldn't use that form of picture :)

Please note that for some of these images John Leach does not own the rights for the of the depicted characters. For an example I doubt he has the right to use the Dilbert cartoon or release it under a free license.

Also I see some ads in one of his comic strips. These are copyrighted too and probably used without proper permission.

I am checking these comic strips now and starts deleting those who contain other's copyrighted works. --|EPO| 18:35, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: What's wrong with my pictures[edit]

You recently asked what's wrong with all my pictures included in Category:Pictures showing a librsvg bug. If you look carefully you'll notice that the subscripts are not working correctly, i.e. it reads H3C instead of H3C. This is because librsvg ignores the baseline-shift property, bug #5792. Thanks for uploading Image:Płaty mózgu.png. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-2.5 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Hi LX. The image I uploaded was not the original, so the text on the FreeBSD website does not apply. It is merely a reproduction of the BSD deamon. If you really want to delete the original BSD deamon (which is covered by the license on the website), take a look at BSD Daemon, the original is right there. --Ysangkok 20:20, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Please respect my request to keep discussions where they started, as this makes conversations easier to follow. I am watching this page, so I will see responses made here.
Copyright applies not to a specific rendition of a creative idea, but to the idea itself. An interpretation of the copyrighted Beastie character is just as much a copyright infringement as a drawing of a Disney character or any other fan-art based on non-free characters. Please read Commons:Derivative works. Thanks for bringing BSD Daemon to my attention, though. Those will unfortunately have to be deleted as well. LX (talk, contribs) 20:25, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks for the quick response. I now understand your reasons for deleting the image. But I don't really know what you mean by "keeping the discussion where it started". This is the only page I know of, which is concerning this subject. This image page and its discussion page are all deleted now. --Ysangkok 20:28, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
By "where it started", I mean on your user talk page, rather than mine. See how this is easier to follow than if the posts were spread out over both of them? :) LX (talk, contribs) 20:32, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I got it mixed up in my head. You're right about that it makes it the discussion easier to track. --Ysangkok 20:36, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and I disagree with the deletion, why did you not allow a discussion to appear before you deleted it? --Ysangkok 20:21, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It was deleted per Commons:Deletion guidelines#Speedy_deletion as an obvious copyright. If you still believe it was not appropriate after reading Commons:Derivative works, you may file an undeletion request at Commons:Undeletion requests. LX (talk, contribs) 20:32, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Coat of Arms of Denmark[edit]

Hello! Could you please upload again the previous version of the CoA of Denmark? The new one is damaged and doesn't display at all in small size, which has destroyed my Denmark Portal in the Spanish Wikipedia. Thank you --Té y kriptonita (talk) 21:10, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why adapt the free version of the coat of arms to the unfree version on vector-images.com? Rewmember that Vector-images.com also only do free interpretations of the coat of arms and their colour choices are as arbitrary as ours. /Lokal_Profil 17:49, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ysangkok. There are better possibilities to improve structural formulas than what you did here (even your third try is not better than my version, IMHO worse). There are plenty of images with SVG bugs in these galleries. --Leyo 22:02, 18 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What are the better possibilities? And why was my version worse? --Ysangkok (talk) 16:25, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I meant images with SVG bugs. Your version was not much worse (the alignment of some bonds was not ideal), but not better and hence there was no reason to replace my version. --Leyo 16:33, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Ysangkok!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Thanks for uploading File:Gliederung der Beskiden.svg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
