You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account. There are several tools to upload files. Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful. Made a mistake? Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Hi Jarekt The sound should have a correct licens marking. We upload all the sounds to our database www.workwithsounds.eu and att the same time deliver texts and sound to Commons. We had problems last autumn but I really thought that it was solved. Se more about the project on http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Work_With_Sounds?uselang=sv

I uploaded the descriptions again. In Work with Sounds database we have name of photograf and video recorder but we upload the sound file ti Commons and information about who made the picture and vedeo muset be removed. Sometimes we remove more :-) Ping @[[User:Jarekt|Jarekt]

some suggestions

Hello Torsten, we had a small talk with Konrad at our local hub in Cologne about the project. Really nice! May I suggest some points for the next bunch of uploads?

• Better file names: The better the filename, the better the findability. If you use dashes or underscores, the readability improves. Example: "WWS Metallatheusedtoproduceflywheels.ogg" -> almost not readable, although there seems to be some information in the name. "WWS Compressor.ogg" -> there could be more information in the file. You might consider using more of the metadata for the filename. Just an example: "File:Bundesarchiv Bild 183-N0618-0045, Fußball-WM, Jugoslawien - Zaire 9-0.jpg" contains some metadata fields and is readable. " WWS FootballAustriavs.Sweden.ogg" does not – I needed a couple of minutes to find out where to use this file.
• Better categorization: You could add more categories, for example from the Category:Audio files by country/Category:Audio files by year (which could be done automatically, because you have the metadata). If the sound comes from a specific museum, you could add the museum category (be bold and create it if it does not exist!). I understand that the deeper topic categorization is a bit of manual work, but it helps the volunteers to categorize and use the file if we have already some more clues. The more fun it is for the volunteers, the more outcome for the use of the files.

Hi Elya

Thanks for useful feedback. About file names. I will talk to all project partners. We could really think about how to name the files more useful. First priority has been the database and it does not need a describing file name but Commons need. We will work on this part.

Categorization

We are planning for a new application for the project and in that case we hope to work closer to Wikimedia. Then then there hopefully will be more time to add more categories. We have 3-5 tags on every sound in the database. Don’t know if it’s possible to use them?

Change of sound

I am worried about File:WWS_Cashregister.ogg. There has been a major change in the sound. This should not be done. Instead a new page should be constructed with the new sound, rather than overwriting of the old one. The old file was used on Wikipedia to demonstrate how a old cash register sounded. By dramatically changing the sound, the description is no longer valid. — Fnielsen (talk) 13:58, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
