User talk:Umapathy~commonswiki
Welcome!
Hello, Umapathy~commonswiki, and welcome to Wikimedia Commons. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- First steps
- Babel guide - Commons is truly international, here's how to handle some multilingual issues
- Commons FAQ - has some answers to common Commons questions
- The Community Portal - has plenty more helpful links
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Commoner! If you haven't already done so, you might also want to open an account on a Wikipedia in your preferred language, or one of the other Wikimedia projects. By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, drop a note on the village pump, the Commons:help desk, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! -- Duesentrieb(?!) 13:01, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Image:Install indic languague windows2000.JPG[edit]
Hi. Inoticed Image:Install indic languague windows2000.JPG was deleted although it is currently used on tamil wikipedia. Perhaps you should upload it again. I'll try to make sure it doesn't get deleted again. / Fred Chess 08:30, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
A PNG version, without any non-free icons, would be better though. -- Duesentrieb(?!) 08:50, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- Dear Fred Chess & Duesentrieb, I have uploaded with PNG format and also updated the Tamil wikipedia site. Thanks a lot for notifying the deletion--Umapathy 03:56, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
Screenshot of of a non-free programs[edit]
On Commons is not allowed to upload screenshots of non-free programs, so I have inserted Template:Screenshot (a "speedy deletion" template) into some of your image pages. However you can probably upload them on your wikipedia. --Qualc1 21:19, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Map of Sri Lanka Image:Sri_Lanka_Districts.png[edit]
Hey Umapathy,
I like the map a lot. Would you please consider inserting the name of the country in Sinhala writing as well, so we have it in all three official languages? You might use the following picture as a source: [1]. That would be great!
Cheers, Krankman 00:59, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Dear Krakman, Thanks for you appreciation I wrote Tamil using UNICODE and I would like to use to UNICODE for the Sinhala as well. Once I find good and free IME (Input Method Editior) I will implement this. --Umapathy 16:34, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Ski Lanka[edit]

Image Tagging Image:Sri_Lanka_Trincomalee_Somadevi_Vidyalayam.JPG[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Sri_Lanka_Trincomalee_Somadevi_Vidyalayam.JPG. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-2.5 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Tip: Categorizing images[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT (talk) 06:19, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

File:RING Topology.png has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Your account will be renamed[edit]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Umapathy. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Umapathy~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
Community Liaison, Wikimedia Foundation
