File:Public drunkness.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hi, I've just noticed we've interacted badly in the past re nominations for deletion. I hope that won't recur and we can see what the community thinks wrt the acceptability of this image for Commons. I haven't nominated this for any personal reason. You take some incredible photos. Colin (talk) 15:48, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
Tomascastelazo, the blame for the screwed up FPC is jointly shared between you and User:Sreejithk2000. Nominating for FPC a file that is identical but-for-its-name to one that is undergoing deletion review is just asking for trouble. And Sreejithk2000 provided that trouble by failing to appreciate the situation when he deleted and turned into a redirect your new file. If you had waited for the deletion review to complete, we've have had the problematic filename renamed to the new one and you could have started an FPC with no potential for problems whatsoever.
I totally reject that I corrupted your FPC. I didn't even participate in it until it was abundantly clear it was going to fail.
What is clear from the deletion review is that Commons has a wide mix of people with quite different ethics regarding taking photographs of people. There isn't one absolute right or wrong here. People I respect hold quite opposing views on it. Life would be boring if we all thought the same way all the time.
Wrt acusing folk of foul play, please consider Hanlon's razor: Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.
Regards, Colin (talk) 09:15, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
What is clear is that when the confusion arose between the two processes, and you being aware of it, you failed to bring clarity to the issue, and contributed to the confusion. So don´t try to wash your hands. I could see that User:Sreejithk2000 could have been an unwilling good faith participant in the mess, but his actions played well into your hands. Commission or omission, equally bad. Now, that is also an ethical question. --Tomascastelazo (talk) 14:40, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
Exactly where did I "contributed to the confusion". Was it this edit where I fixed the wrong file in the nom? Or was it this edit and this edit where I asked Sreejithk2000 to fix his mistake and told to be more careful in future? Or perhaps you think this edit, my first ever to the FPC nom, had the capacity to time travel and infect confusion on all the previous votes that where clearly already going to lead to the nom failing? This could have been a straightforward deletion review leading to a file rename and a subsequent FPC nom. Stop blaming other folk for your impatience. Colin (talk) 17:00, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
So what is it? Malice or stupidity? --Tomascastelazo (talk) 02:00, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Su mensaje, mi respuesta

Dear Tomascastelazo,
Gracias for your kind words. As said above by Colin, "You take some incredible photos". I'm aware that here we have only discussions and debates, even hard. Nothing else. In my mind, we don't have conflicts, only an interesting sharing of different opinions.
You told me about respect, obviously I send this respect (and more) back to you. I think that "Commons" is what it is because of users like you (is that a personal "attack" ?). For parts, that's why I stay, and why I continue to upload and nominate.
Con mis saludos amistosos desde Paris, --Jebulon (talk) 16:11, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

I wasn't too happy with your edit, for the reasons stated. I reverted the file back to it's original version. You may, therefore, want to reconsider your vote. Kleuske (talk) 13:54, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi Tomas

I can see so many life photographs in your gallery. Unfortunately Common shows much interest in such work. Why not post them in Flickr. There we have wonderful groups like People love their life! where you can meet so many people with similar interests. Our old friend Saffron Blaze is also very active there. Regards, Jee -- Jkadavoor (Jee) (talk) 05:49, 2 October 2012 (UTC) Thanks Jkadavoor! FPC is not the entire Commons or Wikipedia, and I know that FPC is a rather closed environment, with much to do and much to learn. I do upload to Flikr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tomascastelazo/sets/), but the reason I like to Commons is because it has a large audience as a source for images, and that is the reason why I upload here. My Flickr account attracts lost of people too. But give me the address where you guys participate and I will se what I can do! --Tomascastelazo (talk) 14:54, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems#User:Tomascastelazo. This is in relation to an issue with which you may have been involved.
Эlcobbola talk 15:16, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

Block

I see this block as the result of several factors, intolerance, bias and misinterpretation of language with regards to some of the vocabulary that I use.

Some admins take literary license to qualify with pejorative adjectives some of my actions and opinions, yet when I use similar terms on their opinions they label them as insults, disruptive, etc. If there was ever a double standard, this is it.

My images can be freely pointed for deletion based on questionable grounds, and yet when I nominate images for deletion the reasons for the nomination are overlooked and I am accused of spuriously nominating images for deletion for revenge. How about looking at the reasons that I point out based on Common´s policy? Does the belief of revenge motivated deletion requests invalidates policy? Administrators files and actions must be above suspicion, otherwise, why have them? We cannot accept to have administrators serving as executioners and deleting legitimate images while their galleries are full of images that violate the policy that they want to enforce on others.

I use the words censor and censorship within the very clear meaning of the term. However, some people around here react not to the term but to the meaning they assign to the term. And the use of this term has some people go ballistic to the ridiculous point of justifying with euphemisms the very act of censorship.

This block is the result of some people being offended by me pointing out acts of censorship, and they take issue on my language. So for the sake of language clarity and logic, consider the following:

A man or a woman who performs sex is called a prostitute by definition, a man or a woman who performs an act of censorship is a censor. A censor by definition according to Webster : a person who supervises conduct and morals: as a : an official who examines materials (as publications or films) for objectionable matter b : an official (as in time of war) who reads communications (as letters) and deletes material considered sensitive or harmful So sex for money = prostitution; deleting objectionable material = censorship

Of course we could use euphemisms for prostitutes, calling them sex servers, sexual relief providers, orgasm provocateurs, etc., but after all, a prostitute. We could call censors guardians of the faith, morals, content editors of uncomfortable material, but after all, a censor.

Motives are irrelevant, a person who sells his/her body for sex, in order to pay the rent, buy milk, make car payments is still a prostitute. A person who deletes editorial matter because he may think it violates a copyright, or dislikes the author or the subject matter, is still a censor.

Clear?

Pancho Villa was a ruthless Mexican revolutionary who had a way of acting when his troops caught enemy troops, or “possible” enemy troops. His usual order was: Kill them provisionally and find out later.” Well, my block was pretty much the same. A classic a-la-Stalin execution of the block. The block executioner asked for complicity while pulling the trigger. What a beautiful example of searching for enlightment in an encyclopedic environment. --Tomascastelazo (talk) 15:59, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

A person who deletes editorial matter because he may think it violates a copyright, or dislikes the author or the subject matter, is still a censor -> well, let me disagree.
A classic a-la-Stalin execution of the block -> no further comments, & no longer watching this page. --A.Savin 17:36, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

I've revoked (ability to edit) your access to your talk page during the block, since you've been using the talk page to continue your bad faith and uncivil comments and personal attacks. About censorship

Hello,

It is sad that your image was deleted, but I don't think censorship is the right word to describe it. You may wish better copyright rules, or less strict application of them on Commons, but that's not related to censorship. Copyright rules my be used for censorship, but I don't think that happens on Commons. Please stay calm and come back. I like your work. Regards, Yann (talk) 14:53, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

Unblocked

I've unblocked you after reviewing the incident at COM:AN, reducing the block to time served. Please understand that you should assume good faith of others, even when you strongly disagree about decisions made. Attacking people and throwing around terms like "censorship" is never helpful, and it's not particularly logical either when we're talking about copyright issues. If you have disagreements in future about copyright issues, I suggest you take them to COM:VPC for discussion of the wider issues.

I will emphasise that whilst I understand your frustration in this incident, it is not something you should repeat. It is not good for anyone, it is not productive, and if repeated it will likely lead to a rather longer block.

I also observe that your talk page is rather large, and encourage you to consider auto-archiving - see User:MiszaBot/usertalksetup. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. regards, Rd232 (talk) 19:50, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

I see you took my advice on the autoarchiving. Just to let you know that it doesn't work on sections that don't have a date stamp in them - those need to be done manually. cheers, Rd232 (talk) 20:12, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

These files were trans-wikied from en.wp as freely licensed, self-created photos by w:User:Shuvro.shuvro. If you're trying to take a dump on User:Ecemaml, this isn't the right way to go about it. -FASTILY (TALK) 03:57, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Well, I found a new Wiki calling, and that is to check the integrity of uploads. I came across this file #[[1]] uploaded by the same user and I used the same criteria to nominate for deletion, used by another user, so I figured I was on safe ground given that the licencins and sourcing are pretty much the same. Furthermore, I followed the link of the supposed original uploader and the page does not exist. The files look suspicious to me. Regards. --Tomascastelazo (talk) 04:04, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Actually, on a second look, you're right. Disregard my original message. I just looked at the en.wp versions of the files and they should never have been transferred in the first place (missing both source/permission information). -FASTILY (TALK) 04:37, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) yes well you have to take the hypocrisy of the place into account Tom, it's like that admin mattbuck, he tells me to fuck off, but if I said the same to him I'd get blocked, hypocrites are like that, and on commons there is a bit of that. Now En.wiki ....ah I won't go there, don't get me started, but it's widely rumoured not to be as bad here.
Sometimes there is a thing called an interaction ban, which is basically we ask the two of you not to play with each other because it always ends in tears. I'm not sure if that's the case here because if it ends with a few DR's and Ecemaml if is a big boy (or girl), then they won't be upset and the DR's will be looked at properly. A quick look at the first one makes it look as if it has as much merit as the tit for tat here except that I find the latter a whole lot funnier :D
But seriously, I think an IB might be the way to go, if Ecemaml noms for deletion things that are on your userpages like that one I diff to, and you make noms that might only have as much merit as whambo nom, then people might have to ask you two to give each other some space, like, officially. Still, if Tom turns what was steam and fiery words into nothing but a stickler's attention to detail and a bit of humour I figure that's ok. I think an admin asked me the other day to fix copyright info on a broken image I was in the process of trying repeatedly to upload, that was somewhat picky, to demand a turd was polished and a nice ribbon tied about it before flushing.
I'd say these two will run out of polite ammo soon. There are only so many silly Dr's they can exchange like this and we can see if they do the sensible thing and settle down, or if I have to glare at them -(o)-(o)- I don't want to do it, but they may leave me no choice. Penyulap 04:50, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Tomas, if you want to get generally more involved with finding copyright violations, great - we always need more help in this area. However, you should make sure you understand the role of different kinds of deletion tagging, as a DR is not always necessary - see COM:D#Overview. In this particular case, Stefan4 had used the right tag, and then you used DR nomination for the others (look at User talk:Ecemaml).

In addition, if the uploader is active and the issue is a lack of information, a quick message to the uploader is generally helpful. It's especially important to give active uploaders a chance to fix problems if you have had recent disputes with them. I'm sure you don't want to come across as vindictive, or cause unnecessary trouble, so please use a personal note when dealing with any issues with Ecemaml and others involved in the recent incident, and give them a chance to respond before deletion tagging or DR nominating. Finally, Special:NewFiles is a good place to look for violations, and contributing to existing DRs is also a good way to learn more. See also Commons:How_to_detect_copyright_violations#What_to_do_if_you_find_a_copyright_violation. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. regards, Rd232 (talk) 11:16, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Feel free to analyze each file I've uploaded and nominate for deletion whatever file you wish. As a personal opinion, it will only add yet another brick to an already established conduct pattern from your side. It's up to you. On the other hand I'm still waiting for an apology for your xenophobic comments. --Ecemaml talk to me/habla conmigo 15:39, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
I notice that both Ecemaml and Fæ have both rushed in to help before the hour was even up on one of Tom's new files. That's paying very close attention to Tom's work. Penyulap 06:10, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
Well it's a great image and Commons is a collaborative environment... so let's just be positive instead of trying to create problems. Rd232 (talk) 08:26, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
Oh, I agree with the collaborative environment part for sure, but the image itself doesn't reach out and grab me except as a humorous critique although I'm pretty freaking sure a lot of people missed that part, I didn't Tom :) as for trying to create problems well yes, I think trying to build 'a wall' 'brick' by brick is a questionable practice, if it's all one-sided like that leaning tower of piza (Mmm Pizza) then it'll be quite the safety hazard. Of course if it is equal and balanced in it's proportions maybe we can end up with some functioning mechanism that keeps these two 'buddies' from each others throats. There IS a s*load of work out there on commons that doesn't involve hounding people, why not find something to do that doesn't involve Tom. Penyulap 09:07, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi Tomas, in relation to your postings at Village Pump I have removed them from the VP (they are still available in the history) as the complaints you are raising are not suitable for that fora; rather they need to go to COM:AN/U. Also, please be very careful in linking to external harassment of editors. russavia (talk) 21:24, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Rusavia, thanks, I´ve posted in COM:AN/U... and did not include the external link, the Spanish wikipedia is evidence enough. Regards, --Tomascastelazo (talk) 21:32, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. FYI

I have opened this one: Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard/User_problems#User:Tomascastelazo, thanks for understanding --A.Savin 22:10, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

Your comment regarding my closure

Hi Tomascastelazo, you were neither chastised nor pratonized in my closing. This was definitively not my intention. Instead I enumerated all the points in regard to the diffs given and explained why all your edits were legitimate. I closed the thread simply because there was nothing to be administratively actioned. It is as simple as that. I just gave the recommendation to avoid the term Komrade as this term has in some areas on our planet a negative connotation. You were most likely not aware of it but Pleclown pointed out the problem. Please take my apologies if my closure was not expressed sufficiently clear in these points. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 17:01, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

Apologies accepted, but how about reccommending A Savin to not use AN to begin with frivolous issues? What about his behaviour and accusations? Does he get a free pass? --Tomascastelazo (talk) 20:27, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
I think Tomas summed it up best when he said about you and your close of A.Savin's urgent request for help from his buddies " What is clear to me is the loyalty that the admins seem to have for each other, crooks and all. "
  • You spend a hell of a lot of time and real estate clutching for straws to say that people should not call other people 'friend'.
  • You do not name A.Savin and tell him he shouldn't go to Featured Picture Review and tell valued contributors that their work doesn't belong on the project.
Obvious partisanship is obvious. Penyulap 20:42, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Tomascastelazo, please take a look at my closure that explicitly states: I strongly suggest not to bring disputes of FP candidacies here to COM:AN/U unless there is a serious problem requiring administrative action. This was obviously directed at A.Savin as he opened that thread. You complained at my talk page that he made a big deal out of it. Please do not try to do the reverse now. In my personal opinion, File:Bicycle reflections.jpg is an outstanding photograph for its artistic value and is a real good sample for en:mirror images. Multiple Wikipedia projects are already using it. So it is surely within our scope. But still, if someone questions whether an image is within our scope, it is not an insult but simply a question. As I tried to explain in my summary, it was legitimate by Tomascastelazo to ask whether user categories are permitted. Similarly it is legitimate to wonder whether an image is within scope. See, photographs that are mainly interesting because of their artistic value will be probably always be questioned at Commons. Compare this with the work of A.Savin. He makes technical excellent photographs of buildings where the building and its environment are in its focus. If I may say, you never see that he expresses himself in his pictures. Instead, he tries to be as neutral and as impartial as possible to his subject. This is the rule of NPOV applied to photography. These photos are of great encyclopedic value for the corresponding Wikipedia articles. The photography of Tomascastelazo, if I may say so, appears to me to be radically different from that of A.Savin. They are vibrant, they give an impression of a great moment somewhere, they express his personality and they are surely not impartial to the subject. I will never forget some of these photographs once I have seen them. I am happy to see both kinds of images hosted here at Commons. We obviously need both. However, as it appears, there will always be obviously some tension between photographers coming to Wikimedia and encyclopedists becoming photographers. The approach is to respect each other but if an opinion or remark seems out of place simply to ignore it and to move on. It is surely not something that should be handled at COM:AN/U and this is the reason why I closed it. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 04:59, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

"This was obviously directed at" whoever the reader wants to think it was directed at, or, more to the point of why you left out A.Savin's name from it is because you do not want to criticize A.Savin as you did Tomas. You don't leave out Tomas's name and 'assume' that it is 'obvious'. I don't give a rats ass how many times you ignore the problem with your biased close, whether you try to excuse it in 5 words or 500, you still deliberately feign ignorance of the problem in a way that won't fool the majority and haven't done sh@# to fix the close. Nope, I think your deaf ears are plain to see. Penyulap 05:19, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

OnaSadya

"Happy Diwali!"

While Diwali is popularly known as the "festival of lights", the most significant spiritual meaning behind it is "the awareness of the inner light". It is the belief that there is something beyond the physical body and mind which is pure, infinite, and eternal, called the Atman. The celebration of Diwali as the "victory of good over evil” refers to the light of higher knowledge dispelling all ignorance, the ignorance that masks one's true nature, not as the body, but as the unchanging, infinite, immanent and transcendent reality. With this awakening come compassion and the awareness of the oneness of all things (higher knowledge). This brings Satcitananda (joy or peace). Just as we celebrate the birth of our physical being, Diwali is the celebration of this Inner Light. While the story behind Diwali and the manner of celebration varies from region to, the essence is the same – to rejoice in the Inner Light! And this year Diwali and All Souls' Day come together to fully defeat the Evil! "Happy Diwali!"JKadavoor Jee 06:17, 2 November 2013 (UTC)

Dear Yann, seriuosly, look at my comments and look at Diliff's comments. My questions, comments and votes are legitimate while Diliff's comments are filled with personal atacks and innuendo. hello Tomascastelazo i saw your image Candidate as one of my favorite images in commons. but i want to discuss about Image title, could you review the title please? i suggested on my timeline "Homeless with shoes" [2].

could you check this one please, for more professional and academical candidacy.. thanks you for this image. i wish good luck --محمد بوعلام عصامي *«Md.Boualam» (talk) 13:47, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

Hello محمد بوعلام عصامي *«Md.Boualam», Thanks for your input and for liking the photo. As to the name change I think that Nike is part of the image... Homeless people may or not wear shoes, and when they do, seldom is the brand recognized. In this case the brand recognition is important in my opinion as a critique and a little bit of sarcasm. Regards. --Tomascastelazo (talk) 04:58, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2015 is open!

You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2015 Picture of the Year contest.

Dear Tomascastelazo,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2015 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the tenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2015) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1322 candidate images. There are 56 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category. In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 28 May 2016, 23:59:59 UTC.

I saw that you restored these categories after Peulle removed them from File:Beggar Woman.jpg. I went ahead and removed them again because of COM:OVERCAT. Basically, because Category:Begging women is in Category:Female beggars, which is in Category:Beggars, it is considered to be already in Category:Beggars. Similarly that category is in Category:Begging, which is in Category:Poverty, so the image is already in that category as well. Adding redundant categories makes the system unusable and for that reason isn't permitted except in certain cases. It's rare that the best category for an image is such a high-level category like Category:Women, since the vast majority of images fit into a subcategory (all of the members of which are already in Category:Women). — Rhododendrites talk21:36, 27 October 2017 (UTC)

File:The growing problem of obesity.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Thank you!

Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
