NASCAR Number categories

Thanks for subcategorizing them. Should I just skip the categories on the Chevy Camaro's that I need to upload yet from Road America? You're doing a good job with them. Thanks! RoyalbroilAlt (talk) 17:46, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

p.s. I'll log in under my main admin account when I get home and the switch #44 image name to J.J. Yeley. RoyalbroilAlt (talk) 17:48, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
@RoyalbroilAlt: You could add the default number categories at first, and if there's a more specific or "better" category i'll change it. Tdorante10 (talk) 01:29, 16 September 2016 (UTC)
I will add the default categories. I have one last batch of 8 cars to do. I should be done in less than 3 hours from now. Cheers! RoyalbroilAlt (talk) 15:13, 19 September 2016 (UTC)

To me this is not a rail tunnel, it's a pedestrian tunnel. Please take a look at the other images in that category. Rodhullandemu (talk) 21:03, 13 July 2017 (UTC)

Denton House in New Hyde Park

How were you able to get those shots of the Denton House (New Hyde Park, New York)? I got a lot of flack from the manager for trying to get interior shots of the place. ----DanTD (talk) 12:53, 14 September 2017 (UTC)

@DanTD: I guess the manager wasn't there? I dunno, I was discreet about it, and it was fairly empty when I was there. Tdorante10 (talk) 21:31, 14 September 2017 (UTC)

I just tagged File:Bedford Pk Blvd West 13 - Concourse Yard.jpg for rotation. Should I have left it alone? ----DanTD (talk) 00:17, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

Well, I have to upload another version. On that day, either the system or my computer corrupted my vertical/portrait files, such that they appeared blurry on the commons but when you opened/downloaded the file it appeared normal. The same thing happened with File:MTA Kew Gdns Union Tpke 59.jpg, then a bot rotated it, then Vcohen uploaded a new one. Tdorante10 (talk) 00:36, 5 October 2017 (UTC)
I did it again. It's a long way, but it works. Vcohen (talk) 14:07, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Cypress Hills and 75th Street - Elderts Lane

How could I have missed the combined images of Cypress Hills (BMT Jamaica Line) and 75th Street–Elderts Lane (BMT Jamaica Line), when you were expanding the gallery for the latter station? ----DanTD (talk) 17:19, 21 January 2018 (UTC)

This is too cool!

Please...

...don't add redlinked (empty) categories to images or other categories. If you plan on creating a new category, create ti and then populate it. Beyond My Ken (talk) 15:22, 27 January 2018 (UTC)

OK, I see what you did now. It;'s not enough to simply add a new category to an image or images, you have to add categories to the new category, or it will stay a red link. If any of the images have other categories on them, copy them and paste them into the new category -- if they are pertinent to the category -- leaving only the new category on the image. If any of the images has explanatory information on it about the building (or other subject), you should copy that and add it to the new category as well.

To get an idea of what I mean, take a look at what I did to Category:166 West 18th Street and the images in it. Thanks, Beyond My Ken (talk) 15:32, 27 January 2018 (UTC)

File:MTA Bus New Flyer C40LF 207.JPG

Just out of curiosity, how did you find out File:MTA Bus New Flyer C40LF 207.JPG was in Long Island City? Part of the reason I'm asking is because I already moved it to a new category, Category:Buses in Long Island City, Queens. Granted, I've had my heart set on a new category for Category:Buses in Flushing, Queens, but I'll have to add that another time. ----DanTD (talk) 03:10, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

@DanTD: I saw that the subway line behind the bus was two-levels high, and the only line I know of oriented like that (along with the buildings in the background) is the Queensboro Plaza complex. Then I confirmed it on Google Street View. It bothered me for a long time, though. Tdorante10 (talk) 03:27, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

MTA Union Tpke 168 St 31.jpg

Just in case you didn't know, that "funny looking Isuzu truck" is for delivering panes of glass. I was trying to find a category for it, but there are very few of these types of trucks in the commons, so I won't bother until more of them show up. ----DanTD (talk) 03:15, 16 April 2018 (UTC)

MTA Bus TMC 5926

The File:MTA Bus TMC 5926.jpg was manufactured by TMC, was it not? ----DanTD (talk) 23:46, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

@DanTD: Yes, but the bus (and the other buses I removed from the category) were not New York City Transit buses as the category suggests. They were purchased by the NYCDOT for the private companies and inherited by MTA RBO during the takeover. So, if the category were "TMC Rapid Transit Series buses of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority", it would fit along with the other DOT buses and the NYCT buses. Alternately, it would fit under the more specific category of "TMC Rapid Transit Series buses of MTA Bus Company (former NYCDOT)". Tdorante10 (talk) 23:51, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
Hmm. Almost makes me think a category rename or two should be in order. Maybe I should consider this around the time that I split off the GMT RTS buses. ----DanTD (talk) 00:28, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

Q Train Pictures

I really need you to help me determine the best picture to be used on the Q train article. I have been constantly in a fight to determine which is best to use. If you have the chance, vote for a picture on the article talk page on Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Q_(New_York_City_Subway_service)) so we can settle the issue once and for all.

Rachel Carson Playground

Did you get any images of the "Rachel Carson Playground" in the Kissena Park Corridor yet? ----DanTD (talk) 04:30, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

@DanTD: Yes, I'm just behind schedule in uploading. Quite an interesting playground. Tdorante10 (talk) 07:29, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Bus overdose

Since we both have been subdividing the Buses in Queens, New York City category by neighborhood, I have also been thinking of doing the same thing to Category:Buses in Brooklyn, New York City. Which neighborhood do you want to start with? ----DanTD (talk) 01:32, 22 June 2018 (UTC)

@DanTD: I think Downtown Brooklyn is a logical start; also many of the pictures (and many of my pictures) are in East New York (Spring Creek, New Lots, Broadway Junction) and Canarsie. The ones on the south stretch of Flatbush Avenue are difficult, since they are literally one the border of Marine Park and Flatlands. Tdorante10 (talk) 01:51, 22 June 2018 (UTC)

Categories

Just a reminder that when adding brand new categories to files, you also need to create the categories. E.g. Cortlandt St (BMT)

A thousand pardons, but the Category:Chambers Street - Cortlandt Street passageway category is already in Category:Cortlandt Street (BMT Broadway Line). We don't need to include its files there once more one by one. Vcohen (talk) 19:50, 14 October 2018 (UTC)

@Vcohen: The ones that I changed are physically on the Cortlandt Street station platform. I know we shouldn't double-categorize, but I think they should retain the BMT category. Tdorante10 (talk) 19:56, 14 October 2018 (UTC)

2018 NASCAR Xfinity Series car models

I notice that you subcategorized the Toyota Camry cars that I uploaded from the 2018 race at Road America[2]. I soon want to upload the Chevy Camaro, Ford Mustang, and Dodge Charger cars from the race. The subcategorizing has gotten too technical for me to follow. What is the subcategory for each make/model for 2018? Would you please give an explanation of the years that are included in each subcategory for ease of use (one option is the subcategories method used at here) but my favorite is this method. An explanation here at your talk page would also work. Thanks! Royalbroil 04:36, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

Well, what I tried to do is to match each year/era model with its production counterpart, and to separate out the individual series, based on the way the Formula One cars are very specifically (I think a little too specifically) categorized. So the current Xfinity Camry is matched with the production category it is based on. Meanwhile the Cup Camry is matched with its production counterpart, which is also the current production model (XV70). This would/does separate the Cup Camrys from the Xfinity Camrys, the Cup and Xfinity Camaros, the former Cup SS and its counterparts in K&N and Euro, etc... Anyways, the categories are (or would be).
  • Category:Toyota Camry (XV50, North America, 2014) in NASCAR Xfinity Series; Exists
  • Category:Fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro in NASCAR Xfinity Series, Category:Sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro in NASCAR Xfinity Series, or just Category:Chevrolet Camaro in NASCAR Xfinity Series; none of these categories exist yet.
  • Category:Ford Mustang V in NASCAR Xfinity Series; not created yet
  • Category:Dodge Challenger (LC) in NASCAR Xfinity Series; not created yet
For now the Xfinity Fords, Chevys, and Dodges can just go in their generic categories (X Y in NASCAR). Tdorante10 (talk) 04:59, 20 December 2018 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll upload them to the generic categories and they could get moved later. I wanted to save other people's time later (if possible). Cheers! Royalbroil 05:40, 20 December 2018 (UTC)
