Re: Help requested[edit]

Hi Siipikarja,

It is my plesure to chat with you.

The offical Chinese name of Former Kowloon-Canton Railway Clock Tower is 前九廣鐵路鐘樓, with reference to the photo Image:HK TST Clock Tower history 1.jpg. I've made a minor edit to put the Chinese name into the article.

Regarding your second question, actually the buildings you mentioned come from Exchange Square. The L-shaped brown building consists of two seperate towers, the left one is Two Exchange Square while the right one is One Exchange Square. The another brown building located between 1IFC and 2IFC is Three Exchange Square.

Helsinki Cathedral[edit]

Hi. My image of The Lutheran Cathedral in Helsinki is up for FP nominations. As you have regarded it favourably on QIC, could you possibly assess it on FPC too. Thanks. Lycaon 13:47, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yleensä kaikkein tarkimmin määritelty luokka on sopivin. Katso myös Commons:Categories. Kiitos. --Apalsola tc 11:28, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

QI[edit]

It's not forbidden to use the templates but we only promote, decline or send noms to consensual review, there. Just keep it simple, time and spacesaving. One big disadvantage is the small frame where there isn't a lot of space and you can lose track of the nomination easiely when handling a lot of beanpoles :-). If you have general or technical questions, want to gratulate a user or wanna smalltalk you can write on the users discussion page. One thing you should keep in mind is that when sending nominations inconsiderately to consensual review the BOT cannot automaticaly archive the nom any more. Same with shifting from promotion to discuss. A user or admin must archive, evaluate and close the nomination by hand which is very time consuming. Wanna say use that cautiously because this is causing a overhead. --Richard Bartz (talk) 17:06, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The BOT automatically moves /discuss images to CR. QICBot will archive and promote images from CR, but they need to be manually closed (changed to /Promoted /Decline as appropriate). The QICtotal is just for human eyes to let us see where it is headed. --Tony Wills (talk) 20:05, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

QI Part 2[edit]

Nice work tallying the votes for the Consensual Review part at QI. While I do not want to belittle nor negate Mr. Bartz's experience with managing the page, I would like to let you know the fine points of CR.

The last time I read the "rules", after an image is marked with "Discuss" and QICBot moves it to CR, it gets 48 hours after the last vote if there is a decision or 8 days if there is a draw (equal votes of support and opposition). After 2 days (48 hours) the "Discuss" needs to be manually changed to either Decline or Promotion and QICBot will deposit the remains where ever they should go. In the case of a tie, after 8 days, the "Discuss" needs to be manually changed to "Nomination" and the bot will take it from there.

I just did all that which was mentioned in the last paragraph. Everything that you did was perfect up to the point that you completed it. I left your name where the noms were correctly tallied by you -- all I did was change the /Discuss to whatever. I am here writing this to encourage you. If the "rules" I wrote here are confusing, difficult to follow or boring to read (I find this happens to me often when I try to read instructions left by people with good intentions) please accept my apology and my understanding that it is possible to just "catch on" especially if you know that me (and others) are available to assist or complete your efforts. -- carol (talk) 13:49, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

CR entries are closed after discussion has subsided - this is deemed to be 48 hours after the last entry (which could be a  Comment OR a vote etc). They don't need to be closed straight away and if they are not then further comments and votes are quite legimate. The whole point is that they should be closed no sooner than 48 hours after the last entry. --Tony Wills (talk) 20:11, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, not the way I have been doing it.... -- carol (talk) 12:23, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I just noticed on my talk page that your question was not directly answered. QICBot moves images which have been marked for a change by real people. My instructions about changing the "/Discuss" to something was also instructions for how to tell QICBot when something needs to be completed. Real people paste the template that totals things in CR and I think it is Tony Wills original notation there that has been templated. Probably the bot can be written to do more, I tend to like it like it is though. Real people making the decisions and showing interest in anything should be good. -- carol (talk) 12:59, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You're not the first person to have asked me about this actually and each time I'm surprised people don't know :) Basically Dartmoor is a place where sheep farmers can let their sheep roam around freely without enclosed fields. The farmers therefore mark their sheep, so they know which sheep belong to which farmer. I think the snowboarder's friend was a pretty decent photographer or something. He had a professional looking camera and was taking pictures of the snowboarder as he did kick-flips in the air. I wish I'd have taken some shots of that :P By the way, the picture wasn't cropped (that's the original). The camera's light levels screw up when you have too much sky and that then affects the quality of the photograph on the sheep. Jolly Ω Janner 23:20, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

QI / World Health Organisation building south face[edit]

Hello,

I just did what Carol suggested, and also what others have done. Please do not block the processus by opposing in this way. You can vote for each of the images or none, but you may not oppose because I propose an alternate version. Yann (talk) 22:42, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Poistetut kuvat[edit]

Viittitkö selvittää, että miksi nuo kaupunginosakartat poistettiin...? --Ningyou (talk) 13:11, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Luokkien poistamisesta[edit]

Hei! --Apalsola tc 14:45, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Seuraava kommentti on siirretty tänne keskustelusivultani, koska keskustelu aloitettiin täällä. --Apalsola tc 15:06, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hei,
mistä kuvista/luokista tarkemmin ottaen puhut? Olen tehnyt +250 muokkausta Commonsissa tämän viikonlopun aikana.
Siipikarja (talk) 14:58, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
--Apalsola tc 15:06, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. And since this is Commons, not a national Wikipedia, we should have these conversations in English. --Siipikarja (talk) 15:14, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Wikimedia Commons is a multilingual project, so also other languages may be used on users' personal talk pages, provided that both the users understand that language. For talk pages of files, categories etc., English is preferred, of course.
But if you prefer English to be used on your talk page, I haven't any problem with that, either. --Apalsola tc 15:41, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The image deletion process under which the two aforementioned images are, is in English. Thus any conversation related to the process should be had in English. But never mind, the categories are back there and the deletion process is underway. I personally prefer Finnish if there is no reason to have the conversation in English. --Siipikarja (talk) 15:54, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File:Rovaniemi_Airport_March_6_2009_02.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
