Hi Siebrand, I just noticed that Image:64403Vienna1938.jpg was deleted, the reason given was In category Unknown as of 31 May 2007; not edited for 8 days. I am not that familiar with the processes here at commons, so I can only guess, there was some problem with the given source or license.

If I remember right, the image shows the Loos-house in Vienna in early 1938 with propaganda-banners of the NSDAP. As far as I remember I took it from http://www.ushmm.org/ where it can still be found with the license public domain ( http://www.ushmm.org/uia-cgi/uia_doc/photos/10833?hr=null ) which I noted on the description page as well.

Why was it deleted? Are there doubts on the licensing given by the USHMM? --Tsui 14:06, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

The image was deleted because no author/copyrightholder was named. Would you be able to add it? File history:

Thank you for the answer. I could only add (again) from where I took the image: as mentioned above, from the website of the USHMM. The information given there is:

Date: Apr 1938
Locale: Vienna, Austria
Credit: USHMM, courtesy of Library of Congress
Copyright: Public Domain

Is this sufficient? There is no information on the photographer available. Today User:Polarlys also requested the deletion of other images (Image:73943Vienna1938.jpg, Image:45023.jpg) with similar tagging - same source, same licensing, but no information on the photagrapher as well. -- Tsui 18:07, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Groet, Siebrand 09:11, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Hey! I noticed you marked Image:Plates tect2 en.svg as missing essential license information. The version you saw was a vandalized version, and the vandal had removed the licensing information. I have reverted to the non-vandalized version. In future could you check the images history to make sure it has not been vandalized before marking it as missing required info? Thanks. -Mschel 15:46, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, hadn't thought of that. But it may obviously be the case with tagging files that have been on wiki for a while. Thanks for letting me know and catching that. I'll try and be aware of that in the future for older files. Cheers! Siebrand 15:50, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Bad image delink on w:Scripophily

This bot left broken brackets after removing[2] File:Boeing Stock Certificate.png at w:Scripophily. It should have removed the entire link. Superm401 19:02, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the report, Superm401. It is a known issue that is probably mentioned twice on this page. We're still looking into how we should fix it. Cheers! Siebrand 19:05, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
This has been fixed since r39 of 6 June 2007. -- Bryan (talk to me) 19:10, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
Ah, I thought it already might have been fixed :) Thanks for reminding me, Bryan. Cheers! Siebrand 19:13, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Replacer

Groet, -- Bryan (talk to me) 19:40, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Poeh! Siebrand 20:36, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Its my own work, I want to release it under PD-self, I already included it, but I guess there went something wrong. There is no "license-headline". How can I include the PD-self correctly???? --BambooBeast 09:59, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

I see you have just fixed it. Cheers! Siebrand 18:45, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
yeah, guess I've found my way through the license-jungle. thanks anyway ;-) --BambooBeast 18:49, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

CommonsDelinker shouldn't remove references to deleted files from talk pages

I think this edit by CommonsDelinker is not quite appropriate. I believe preserving the integrity of talk page entries is more important than removing references to deleted images. In this case, the bot edit distorts my original message and obscures the reason the user was blocked by removing entries from the list of problematic files which the user had uploaded. Would you please consider modifying your bot to change this behaviour? LX (talk, contribs) 10:31, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, I think this purpose is possibly best server by giving communities a possibility to exclude certain namespaces from the delinker on a page in the MediaWiki namespace. That way each community can decide for themselves, on an admin protected page, which namespace will be delinked and which not. Would that be a good idea? Siebrand 18:41, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
A per site delink_namespaces will be possible in some future release. I recommend by default excluding all talk pages. This can be done by setting delink_namespaces to range(1000)[1::2]. -- Bryan (talk to me) 19:23, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
Sounds awesome. LX (talk, contribs) 19:31, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
Suggested change by Bryan is in production. Should we still put the additional feature in the TODO list? Siebrand 19:42, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
That should be CommonsDelinker['delink_namespaces'] = range(1000)[::2]. -- Bryan (talk to me) 20:15, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
Changed again.. Siebrand 20:33, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi, please read this note. I propose to move the Orgullobot commands page into the Commons namespace. I think your bot works there so it concerns you. :) thanks --pfctdayelise (说什么?) 15:06, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Image:AWT at OS X.png and more copyvios in Screenshots

Hello,

I'm glad you've taken the initiative: This image has been an copyvio because it has shown quite a lot of Mac OS X widgets. But consequently you should also delete all these images:

I've collected images in these categories over months, and I think they are illegal screenshots.

thank you for answering me here, --Sven 13:22, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Wow, it's amazing to see how fast the own work can be destroyed. So please be consequent and delete all these images. It's horrible to see how trivial one-second-windows screenshots stay alive next to the deleted ones I've made (with such a huge amount of time). Thanks for the fast interaction ;-) --Sven 21:33, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Are you guys fond of deleting every image?

What is the essential info? If you like every info such as how was the image made, you can go visiting the en-wikipedia? The following info is good enough and it's just what the uploading template of Wikimedia Commons asked for (at that time)!!

Description: Graph for pseudorapidity; Source: en-wikipedia Date: 6 December 2006 Author: User:Kbat Permission: Public domain

Are you not into open and free content? Then by all means do not contribute. If you do support the objectives of the Wikimedia Foundation, please document your images properly and I will love and praise you for it. You might want to look into using CommonsHelper. Cheers! Siebrand 18:20, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
It's NOT my image. It's an image in public domain that the author already said in en-wikipedia that was also addressed in the info template here, which included the en-wikipedia authors' own info. And I don't know what's in your mind. You liked to deleted every image in PD or GFDL already mentioned by the original authors who upload the images only to en-wikipedia. Did you visit the en-wikipedia image page to see the info before you put a deletion tag? I guess not! And it's ok before to transport such images to the Commons, but not now? --KasugaHuang 18:28, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
For the required information it is irrelevant if the image is your own work or not. It is also irrelevant if the image has been on en.wp for a day or 2 years. You are required to deliver all relevant information and you did not - there is no link to the source image. Please follow the tip and use CommonsHelper. I'll make your life and mine a lot easier and immensely improve chances of the image being kept. Cheers! Siebrand 18:32, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
The problem is you deleted things carelessly. If you did pay a simple glance to the info template here, you wouldn't do such an act! The same thing happened to image:StressEnergyTensor.png and I hate to upload the image again. If you like to delete images carelessly and trust no one, please, upload this image to the Commons again on your own!
I join the Wiki-projects to share knowledge with all human beings in each kind of languages, not to waste time with people like you who contribute nothing but just destroying meaningful things! -- KasugaHuang 18:41, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
I did not delete anything carelessly, and I did not delete your image in particular. I noticed missing information, tagged the image and informed you. Instead of fixing it and adding the missing information, you start ranting here. That does not help. Even after urging you twice (!) to use CommonsHelper, you have obviously nore cared to use it. I do hope you will remain to be a productive community member of this project, but in this discussion, you have not yet proven that you are willing to learn how images are best copied from other projects to Wikimedia Commons. Cheers! Siebrand 19:35, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Rutgers Gardens

I am sorry you deleted all my GFDL photographs of Rutgers Gardens. I believe I included full information about copyrights, etc, including the fact that I took all the photographs and released them with GFDL license. Hi. You really should check if all requirements have been met after uploading, we are very strict here... Please see COM:UR for a possible undeletion request. Cheers! Siebrand 11:21, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Commonsdelinker speed

Commonsdelinker on nds: is a bit fast sometimes. It deletes the red-link images from the articles before I can have a look at the case (it often deletes even before CommonsTicker notifies the deletion on Commons) and so it often produces unnecessary edits, for example, when there are alternative images or if the image is restored shortly after. It would be nice, if Commonsdelinker could wait a day or so, before it delinks. 15 minutes is too fast. --::Slomox:: >< 14:57, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi. We delink after 10 minutes to not have to implement all kinds of difficult and unrealiable queueing mechanisms. Delinking indeed takes place from 600 seconds after deletion. We currently have no opt-out mechanism for Commons, but that is all we can offer you: delinking under these terms or not at all. By the way: the image is gone anyway and you always have the edit history for CommonsDelinker in case you have a need for all of CommonsDelinker's actions. In the future we will have a web page where everyone will be able to get a complete insight in all edits made by CommonsDelinker. We currently have delinking data, but no way to show it yet. Very soon also replacement actions will be logged correctly (something is logged now, but not raelly realiable or accurate). I do hope there are some satisfying comments in my reply to your question, even though I could not fulfill your request... Cheers! Siebrand 15:09, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Somehow my public license of the picture I took wasn't on the picture I uploaded, I got your pasted comment I fixed it but it still seems to be saying insufficient tags. But I have them on there. Huuuh? Thanks, Nesnad 18:00, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

However you "fixed it", the fix did not take (the latest edit is this one). What "public license" did you intend?   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 18:59, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks JeffG, I went and checked again and I "fixed it" on en Wikipedia but not on Commons, oops. OK. It should be all good now. Thanks again, Nesnad 05:18, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Please restore

Hi, you deleted two pictures i took and uploaded on wiki commons : image:Nancy saint-epvre.JPG and Image:Pic lorraine.JPG. I had sourced these pictures and given them permission to wikipedia. Please, restore them. Nanceio 22:38, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

I've temporarily restored the images. Please add a license, as they will be deleted in 4 days again if you don't. Please take these requests to COM:UR next time. Cheers! Siebrand 06:17, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Lojze Dolinar

Hello! I see, that you have deleted my image, which name was next: Image:Kip_revolucije_Dolinar_1961_Delavska_stavka.jpg I please you, if you can bring my image back, becouse it's my work, I made it by myself and I also named the scoulpturist and year, when he made the work. This scoulpture stands in Kranj, and is sign of one of most important artist in Slovenian modern art after 2. WW. becouse this was my beginning in wikimedia commons, i think, that I didn't put the picture under the right license. If you can bring the picture back, I'll be very happy. Please bring undeletion requests to COM:UR. Thank you. Siebrand 06:13, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Come again? What exactly is the problem? I just moved it from Wikipedia as you can see - I can't possibly do anything more than provide the information I have already. Richard001 06:55, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

I am really sorry but I forgot to put the license ,and I don't know how to repare my mistake! I just wrote that this picture is my own and that I want a free license, but were is the place to note this? thanks to help me...and excuse my so poor english Arlette1 14:13, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

This image appears to be "© C.König" in the bottom right corner - who is "C.König"?. I usually suggest the free licenses {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-2.5,2.0,1.0}}.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 16:43, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Now it's done, I 've found the procedure to do this, Arlette1 05:30, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
Not quite. Who is "C.König", and how did you aquire the copyright such that you could release it under GFDL? Thanks!   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 09:24, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

This image states that I created it. Could you please remove the tag. Could you also undelete Image:Tidningar_i_Falkenberg_-_upplaga.png, which I'm pretty sure had the same information (it is created by me as well). Gunnar Larsson 19:34, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

MesserWoland deleted Image:Tidningar_i_Falkenberg_-_upplaga.png, you should ask that user for undeletion.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 09:24, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your message, but what more can I write than "self-made" when I made it myself? --KIDB 20:49, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for licensing it.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 09:24, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Unsourced?

Hi! Why did you tag a number of pics that were uploaded as my own work and were clearly marked as such as unsurced? (They all had exactly the same info as this one; notice how clearly it says "source: self made"). Please explain to me why they were deleted. --Cessator 21:48, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

"source: self made" is not good enough, you have to actually license the images. All of the images referenced on your user talk page are bluelinks at present.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 09:24, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Image of Cantal

Hello

You've decided to delete several images that i have taken myself. This is my own work. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ikimashoo (talk • contribs) at 10:38, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Yes, that's right. Reasons are on your user talk page. Also, please post new comments at the bottom of talk pages, not at the top. Thanks!   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 17:07, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

WIKIMEDIA

Hello, I am new and thus I do not understand about which licence you speak. It is a licence of a image? Because if it is that want to give me well the title of the article. Thank you --Émeric 15:17, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

The image names are in the section titles of Siebrand's comments on your user talk page.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 17:09, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi Seabrand. I don't understand what is the problem with this image. I had uploaded another image with the same data and somebody deleted it so what I have done is do the graph myself with word (and then all the changes into an uploadable file) with the data from which the first graph was done. I have given permission to anybody to use the graph and specified that it was a self made graph. Please, what else should I do? Thank you.--Jorditxei 15:53, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

By the way, please remark that this is not the same figure somebody already deleted, although it has the same colors. Remark for instance the left axis, it is not the same. This figure was done by myself using the data from which the deleted figure was done. Please if there is any problem contact me before deleting it. Thanks--Jorditxei 15:59, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
It appears that Siebrand was concerned about the lack of a license tag like {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-2.5,2.0,1.0}}. I am also concerned about that, plus the copyright on Boeri's 2002 data and the complete citation of Boeri's 2002 data. In addition, as specified above, please always link to the image or edit you want to discuss. Thanks.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 16:18, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Sorry for the problems with my pictures. But I don't know what to do to save them from delete ! The pictures are all coming from wikipedia (English, or French). I take them from the english article to create the french one and make the english one from the french... There are all free licenses... Could you help me ? Witch option have I got to choose in the future to avoid problems ? Thanks to answer me on my discussion page... Sylfred1977 8:12, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Please use CommonsHelper. More information is on the template message {{Welcome}}. You can still use it and add the output to the image description page. Cheers! Siebrand 09:15, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
It is too difficult for me. You can delete the pictures with problems if you want. Now, I will only put MY OWN pictures on wikipedia commons. But the system is very stupid ! I don't understand why a free picture in wikipedia EN can not be placed on wiki commons to help to make good article in every langages ! Bye... Sylfred1977 20:15, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
CommonsHelper has a manual and yes, usability of MediaWiki could be improved on the image management side... Siebrand 12:15, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

You have left me a message saying that the copyright status isn't clear because it doesn't say who created the image.

I have to contradict you. It does say who created the image. It says that the "source" was TTaylor. It says that the "author" was TTaylor. It was uploaded by TTaylor and you left a message for TTaylor saying you didn't know who the author was. This is TTaylor asking you to remove that banner from my drawing. The diagram has not been derived from any other source. It is the only diagram that this art Historian has ever seen showing the architectural scheme of Michelangelo's ceiling.

I can assure you that no breach of copyright is involved. Please attend to the matter, ASAP. --Mandy 13:04, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi Mandy. We cannot legally use your work if you have not licensed it. You have uploaded the image and added a source and an other. However, you have not licensed the image. Please add a license, so it can be used legally and we can keep the image here. Cheers! Siebrand 13:11, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

I think it is a copyright violation, but I dont know where to post it. Can you do it for me? The first link in the copyright text "information" links only to the internet-picture of the stamp. The second link "Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria" links to the start-page of the ministery. There are every day changing news, but no copyright permissions. Some month ago I wanted to upload pictures from my bulgarian stamp collection, but I found that bulgarian stamps probably have a copyright. (discussion in bulgarian wiki, in the article STAMPS - on englisch language)- Thanks, --RosarioVanTulpe 21:07, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

I have tagged a lot of uploads by this user. Thanks. Siebrand 19:02, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
The Copyrighte problem ist still unsolved - though User:Apcbg added license information and removed the Warning tag. Yes, the Bulgarian Ministery on Foreing Affairs grants Creative Commons License ([3]). BUT obviously they are not the copyright owner for that bulgarian stamp. The copyright owner can only be the Bulgarian Post Office or the Bulgarien Ministery of Communications - I guess. So we would need a Creative Commons License from them. The name of the artist is clearly printed on the stamp (T. Wardzhiev; bulgarian: Т. The copyright is also owned by the artist. --RosarioVanTulpe 19:56, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
I'll bring this to the attention board, as I do not know how to proceed... Siebrand 12:22, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Oh well, you'll find the time one day... Siebrand 12:24, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

The problem isn't that this image is missing copyright information. The original upload had it listed as PD, but I removed this tag. The problem is that it's a knock-off of one of UMC's logos. The uploader figured that since he made it himself, it's PD. But the problem is, he made it himself to look like the UMC logo - so that's still a copyright problem. I wasn't sure what to do about this, but since I knew the PD claim wasn't correct, I removed it. I'm noting this here for you in hopes that you'll let me know what action I should take the next time I see this sort of problem. Thanks, Rklawton 02:47, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

It might be nice if you gave a little background on who created it (i.e. the author). This can help establishing the PD-old claim that you make. After that, adding a required license tag, would also be nice. Cheers! Siebrand 22:22, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

PD-Eigin

Hi. Thanks for contacting me about the tags before the images get deleted. I'm moving a lot of images from is: and sometimes I do it to quickly without seeing that some info is missing. Just so that you know, if you see Permission - PD-EIGIN then it means that it's "PD-User". Just like I did here. How does this image not specify who created the content. It clearly lists I.T& C.lewis.Geni 20:33, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Might be nice if you tell us where you found the image that you scanned (may have been the original publication, or whatever). You also may want to slap a {{PD-old}} on it before removing any missing information templates. Cheers! Siebrand 20:36, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
You complained about source information not copyright templates (made in 1833 what do you think the copyright status is?). As to where I found it well as long as it was legal for me to find it there (and it was) that isn't really a commons issue.Geni 20:41, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
Well, there are no identifiable marks on the map. I must say that I am realy, really interested about your source. I might even think that you are avoiding the issue by giving the above reply. But of course, I am assuming good faith. Cheers! Siebrand 21:35, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
I've got a poor quality copy of the letterhead? of the map that I could scan if you are really that interested.Geni 22:45, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
I think all available information on the source of especially non-self created content makes it more valuable. Of course it does not change the license status, it does however add to its value as a source document. Please do whatever you think is best to give your contributions to Commons as much value as it possibly can have. Cheers! Siebrand 23:30, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Hehe. I meant: This image is cleary in the public domain. Tagging it this way („no license“), erodes our credibility, especially if someone [deletes it]. --Polarlys 11:59, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
I agree; to a human it is obvious. newimages.py however is not able to pass a w:Turing test ;). A bot just notices that no template is present. Nothing we can do about that. That adding a license tag is a requirement, is being communicated to all uploaders, by the way... Cheers! Siebrand 12:08, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Image:Linotype distributor.png and others

Hi... I got a copyright warning from what I assume is your bot (it was signed "Siebrand" as opposed to "Siebot"). Thanks, I misunderstood the correct use of the "author" field for public domain images. Fixed now.

In the process of uploading these I noticed that there are a number of standard license options for public domain files, but the case I have wasn't covered. That is: a file published later than 1923 whose copyright has expired. Verifying that isn't as easy as checking for 1922 or before, but it's certainly doable and I have done so. I ended up having to give the status in text, rather than being able to pick an entry from the license menu. If you know of a way to get this improved, that would be welcome. Paul Koning 16:25, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi, again, his picture is a modification of [Provicia Sevilla of wikipedia commons] with GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2. I add the above information and a license to the image. Cat edit summaries by SieBot

Hi Siebrand,
though that is no real problem, the edit summaries by your bot (like this one) are somewhat misleading because the bot in his (is he male?) edit summary mentions an other cat than the one he actually changed. But for me that's only a cosmetic problem. Greetings -- Túrelio 12:08, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi Túrelio. I am aware of the issue. This is because of a bug in the pywikipedia bot framework I am not able to trace. Because of this, SieBot only processes one category per minute and edits really fast (30-40 edits/minute), but if a category contains many images, the edit summary can indeed be messed up by the next command. It is still somewhere on my list, but as it is a cosmetic issue, not with the highest priority. Please be aware that the edit itself is correct, at least from the point of view that the actual command has been processed, and not what the edit summary states. The correctness of the command is the responsibility of the admin that issues it. I hope this explanation is satisfactory for you. Cheers! Siebrand 12:51, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
This time [5] he did it right! Congratulations. ;-) -- Túrelio 20:32, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Why do you mass-flag his contributions as missing essential info? In all the cases both the author and the license are provided on the image description pages. // tsca [re] 11:21, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Almost all of his work is unsourced. He is not the author and although the work may come from the Polish Wikipedia, there is no data whatsoever on when the image was upload by whom and which license was added to it. This is a very sad case and I wish I/we had taken action before he had uploaded more than 1000 images. :( Siebrand 11:24, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
I must be missing something - I looked randomly through his upload log, and the authors, the sources and the licenses are given: pl wiki example, flickr example. To me it looks like he's careful to check and report the information when uploading. You add your template even if the information is there (and can be verified by following the links). What's really the problem? // tsca [re] 14:46, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
The image allegedly credited to a Polish language user does not contain an image source. Presumably that is the Polish language Wikipedia, but we do not know for sure. This is why CommonsHelper was invented. The Flickr link does not contain a source. It contains a link to a Flickr user that allegedly is the copyright holder of the image. Cheers! Sorry, but in french.

Groet, Siebrand 11:52, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Don't get burnout

Giving meaning to an unknown orchid to brighten your day :) This was really nice to read. But don't work too much on one thing; it is too depressing, and it is better for Commons to have long-life admins than burn through them (at least while we're still working on the Commons Former Admin Pension Scheme). And after all, the copyvios will still be there when you come back. Alas. :) --pfctdayelise (说什么?) 05:56, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Don't worry. I shared it with whomever is interested in the read and I tried to give a positive swing to it. So it's out of my system and hopefully an impulse for earlier recognition of omissions in user's knowledge of the way the Commons works. Anyway: thank you for the comfort and... have you checked Commons:Welcome log today!? ;) Cheers! Siebrand 06:47, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Conduct

Do NOT use {{Move}}, use {{Move-category}}. They are not the same templates... Cheers! Siebrand 10:55, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Hey, it was too late when I noticed your post at Pfctdayelise's talk page. I can replace {{Move}} with {{Move-category}} if you like tho, it seems template isn't designed for bulk moves :/ -- Cat chi? 12:26, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
Please don't. Pfctdayelise already redirected the template. This is why I am very much against seperating Q/A over multiple talk pages. Please don't respond here on the {{Move}} issue, do respond on the how we keep insight in talk ourselves and how we give others the opportunity to join in ;) Cheers! Re: Please link images

Please read this and see if you can help: Commons:Help_desk#Updated_image_of_the_pizza_Margherita Thanks --ElfQrin 13:28, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Is it work properly? For example Image:Cathedral of Holy Spirit (old).JPG, deleted on June 14 was removed from Minsk manually only today. Image:Yanka Kupala Monument.jpg deleted yesterday still used in be-x-old:Янка Купала. --EugeneZelenko 14:12, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

We currently suffer from replication lag. This means that CheckUsage does not return pages, where images have been added less than 4 days ago. We are currently unable to fix this. Next week however, the toolserver will get a new database server, which will hopefully decrease replication lag. -- Bryan (talk to me) 14:58, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
Please ensure that you use both CommonsTicker and CommonsDelinker in projects. CommonsTicker enables you to be notified on images that have been deleted from Commons but still cause red links on a local project. Cheers! Siebrand 15:01, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
CommonsTicker doesn't work either with replication lag... -- Bryan (talk to me) 15:03, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
Hmm, it doesn't? I thought it just worked with delay. Are you sure that CT also misses events when the toolserver is lagged? Siebrand 15:05, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

About Nuevacoronica.jpg

Hi, your bot left me a message, to upload a higher quality of this picture, the problem is the the higher quality is about 1 megabyte (also, there isn't a good looking version because it's a book from 1615 and there is only one in the world, i put the original for artistic purposes).--Mariocossio 16:55, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Up to 20 megabytes is ok.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 20:24, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Hello Siebrand, Thank You for Your advise. I added the licence now. It was a mistake, because I had to change the name of the uploaded picture, and the program keeps all informations given, but not the chosen licence. The image of the parthenon w:Image:World_Heritage_Sites_in_Greece5167.jpg has the SXC license which is incompatible with wikimedia but it also appears to have a license for use for any purpose, which in my opinion means the former license should be deleted from the page, but the image should stay under the second license, and not be deleted on July 1. Furthermore, I am worried that other images in a similar situation to this one may be deleted without need.

I had trouble getting it to link properly, sorry. Scott.medling 09:17, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

The problem is that we never know whether the image actually has been published under a free license. See Commons:Deletion requests/Template:Sxc-warning for more information. The only solution is that the author of the images maybe contacted and asked for a free license. I am trying this for quite a few sxc images, and will also do that for this one. If you have some more particular images you want to keep, let me know on my talk and I will see what I can do. -- Bryan (talk to me) 10:20, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi. The Image:Amazon river basin_pt.PNG was my own work made by editing fully PD file Image:Amazon river basin.png by translating labels into portuguese. There was no missing information, so no reason to delete the file. Alexg 10:59, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you. --Siebrand 13:09, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi Siebrand. CommonsDelinker made a bad edit on de-WP, see here. The image was not replaced, only the new name was added between “Bild:” and the name of the deleted picture. Maybe you are able to find that bug. You don't have to fix the specific page mentioned. --Leyo 14:50, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Bitte Löschung überprüfen

Hallo Siebrand, mein Englisch ist leider sehr schlecht, also... --Eisenacher 11:46, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

The images were credited to a certain Manfred Brueckels in the description and were uploaded by User:Stephan Herz. As there was no evidence that those two were the same, they were tagged {{No permission}}. Because no permission was received, the images were deleted... Hope that helps. If you are the creator of the images, best upload them again under your own name and if the images were taken van the German language Wikipedia, please let Stephan Herz know that he should have used CommonsHelper. Cheers! Siebrand 11:50, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
Hi Siebrand. Thanks for your answer. I´ll now try to upload my images (in reduced shape) by myself. But probably this is a matter of more than personal interest: In the past, when I tried to upload files up from about 350 KB, I always got messages like "server overburded" or so. So I accepted a special help, announced in WP and Commons, and sent my files to another user, who had no problems to upload them. And so I did with the files above. Are there any important changes? - Sorry again because of my poor English. Greetings. --Eisenacher 10:28, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
I understand your message quite well, so I guess you should not worry about your level of English skill. ;) Your information is very important, and because it was not added to the image descriptions, the images were deleted, unfortunately. I will restore the images and reference your edit above. Please feel free to edit the images afterwards to change any information that would not be in order. Cheers! Siebrand 12:11, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
Restore done. I was only able to find four of the six images you asked about. The others appear to never have been present on Commons. Please make a user page that connects your real life name Manfred Brueckels to your username Eisenacher. Cheers! Siebrand 12:19, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

SieBot edit summary does not reflect edit

Hi Siebrand, here and here the edit summary refers to a "Neuss" category but the edit changed a "Münster" category. Could you please look into this problem? Greetings, --UV 20:35, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

This is an issue that cannot be resolved at this time. It only occurs when a list of categories is fed to the bot to be moved and somewhere in the list this is a cat with more than 50 objects. As the edit itself is accurate, I will not give fixing it a high priority. It wil be fixed eventually, though... Cheers! Siebrand 20:43, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia delinker

Hi. I was wondering if somehow the CommonsDelinker could also be used or the code given somehow so that Wikipedia could have a delinker for the deleted images there, to save admins there the hassle. Obviously, the bot would only remove images from Wikipedia where they're used there since the images are there. I asked w:User:Gracenotes if he was interested in it but he's busy, and I'm impatient. Plus, you seem to already have the code done and implementing it for Wikipedia may be easy. Any thoughts, ideas, problems you can see with this? MECUtalk 19:34, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Good question. The answer is that we will be making the source code for delinker available in the nearby future and it will be fully configurable to delink and replace on a single local wiki. Ain't that great!? Thank Bryan and buy him beers! ;) Siebrand 20:40, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

I noticed you have stopped the automatic deletion of the old cats which have been moved. Is this only temporary stopped? At the moment hundreds (or thousands) of municipality cats are beiing moved from "Municipality, Germany" to "Municipality" and that's why the automatic deletion of the old cats is very important. CommonsDelinker in pywikipedia CVS

Why was this upload attempt not possible, do you have an error message to share? Also, please try using a better name, perhaps one that includes some or all of "Plaza de Toros, Palmares, Alajuela 2007". Thank you for your message.[7] Unfortunately, I am not completely sure, which tag is appropriate for that picture I uploaded from sk.wikipedia.[8]. Oh, I care. There's just too much work to be done and too little time to deal with each issue in a personal way. That's why we use templates a lot. I see you uploaded the image again, adding the CommonsHelper information. That does not work, because if you make a new upload, the image description is not overwritten. I created the CommonsHelper information again, edited the page and replaced the description present. Cheers! Siebrand 10:53, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
And I did clean the output a bit :) Siebrand 10:57, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your work. I just have been about to correct myself, as I now studied the idea in more detail, but you have been faster. I will know next time. Der Beobachter 11:01, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Stumbled over this (random page), which might not have the proper license. It seems to be a photographic representation of the flag of an organisation or such, tagged as Own work. Is there a tag I should place on images where the licence is not/might not be correct? Finnrind 14:04, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

I placed {{Derivative}} on it. Cheers! Siebrand 16:15, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi! Although this image (screenshot) was made by myself, i would like to request to be deleted since i'am going to upload two more complete versions of it (along w/ the required copyright status), Ubuntu 7.04 Desktop in the Portuguese language, in order to be used at pt.Wiki article on Ubuntu Linux: one about the desktop (after installation) and another showing its use, w/ applications, at my school. Thank you. --Al1554$ 14:27, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Please consider replacing the current image with the new image... Cheers! Siebrand 15:44, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

i changed the pictures Licensing to PD-self The preceding unsigned comment was added by Zzaakk (talk • contribs) at 16:08, 25 June 2007 (UTC) will that work as a License? The preceding unsigned comment was added by Zzaakk (talk • contribs) at 16:10, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Image:SpaceNeedle.jpg: Nice work! Please fill out {{information}} for it, then remove {{no source since/en}}.
Image:MinoxB-2.JPG: Also, nice work, but it needs to be lit from the side, and for this image you need a different license for the underlying work, namely {{PD-because|utilitarian box cover}}, as I doubt the copyright on the box cover artwork has expired, and you may have to move it to a Wikipedia that allows fair use (like English Wikipedia) if {{PD-because|utilitarian box cover}} doesn't fly.

Also, please post at the bottom of talk pages (not the top), and sign your work. Thanks!   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 17:23, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
