Hello,
I'll answer to every question, but I don't look at this page very often – if you need a fast answer or if your question is somewhat very important, you might consider to put your request on my german user talk page. I'll surely read that page more frequently than this talk page.

If your concern is very important, feel free to write me an email --Sven 12:02, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mo drive[edit]

Wikipedia - was nun?
--Karbrüggen 14:37, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,
einfach einbinden, als wäre es lokal vorhanden. Mehr steht auf de:Benutzer Diskussion:Karbrüggen geschrieben :-)

AWT screenshots[edit]

If Apple says "sure, fine, put our screen elements under a free license", then no problem. But I think you and I know what their answer is going to be. :-) It looks like there are other violators in the category you mention, a sign of too many image and not enough image reviewers! Free AWT screenshots would have to use their own widgets, not any that are provided by an unfree OS. Stan Shebs 01:40, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sven,

the following content you uploaded is not free and therefore had to be deleted:

 • Image:Putty on Windows.png
 • Image:Putty (SSH forwarding).png
 • Image:ProgressQuest Screenshot.png

The Wikimedia Commons (this website) only hosts media files which can be used for any purpose, including:

 • use in any work, regardless of content
 • creation of derivative works
 • commercial use
 • free distribution

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on the Wikimedia Commons. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on the Wikimedia Commons: "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.

Please make sure that you only upload works you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial to understanding how the Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions.

Please see Commons:Licensing#Screenshots. LX (talk, contribs) 14:17, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello LX,
This is very wrong: en:PuTTY is free software (GPL), thus Template:Free screenshot is matching. Of course, the screenshots show windows software, but this is a general problem of free windows software, because Windows itself isn't free. But if you delete these images, please delete everything in Category:Windows Screenshots.
Btw, I've never seen (it's not my work). --Sven 14:06, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Sven,
Sorry my message wasn't clearer. The problem is not with Putty itself (and I am aware of its license), but with the non-free Windows widgets. Commons:Licensing#Screenshots states that "screenshots are copyrighted if the displayed program or operating system is copyrighted" and recommends uploaders to "cut away all possibly copyrighted stuff. Just show the content." This includes cutting away the Windows title bar.
I've already deleted all images in Category:Windows Screenshots and its subcategories which contained copyrighted widgets and modified the category description to note that its contents must not feature non-free elements. As for Image:ProgressQuest Screenshot.png, you're right: it was uploaded by another user. I must have seen your name in the page history (you added a category to the image at one point), and overlooked that you weren't the uploader. LX (talk, contribs) 18:04, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So thank you very well for "finalizing" my idea of collecting and finally deleting Windows screenshots on the Commons. I would be glad if you still keep an eye on this category because I'll continue adding windows screenshots (which I find while browsing the commons). Feel free to delete everything you can catch there :-)
I was just suprised that my plan of deleting windows screenshots even deleted *my* images. But I think this is the right (consequent) way. --Sven 20:13, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Glad you're so understanding. I'll try to remember to keep an eye on the category, but please poke my talk page if you think I might need a reminder. LX (talk, contribs) 20:45, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:FSF-Logo.svg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Hello, Sven!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Use of Walmart photo[edit]

Dear Sven:

I am writing from public television station KUHT-TV in Houston, Texas. We are producing a program this week about the layoffs at Walmart and would like to use your photograph in an opening montage that will explain the situation for our audience. After broadcast to the Houston market on Friday, 29 January, 2010 we will upload the program to YouTube as a part of the HoustonPBS Channel.

I am writing to ask for specific permission to use the photo because the terms of use have requirements I don’t understand. In particular I don't know how the Share Alike requirement works with a broadcast.

The program is a weekly series called "Houston 8", eight being our channel assignment. The mission of the program is to bring multiple viewpoints to the table each week to explore how a specific issue affects each member of the community and how it affects our collective future. The program is essentially a "talking heads" format and we set up the topic under discussion with a roughly 90 second video package at the top of the show and we want to include this image in that set-up. This is the description for this week's program:

You can see an example of one of the programs that uses another photograph we found on Wikipedia at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOqmQFrdkzg. It also shows how we credited the photographer on that episode.

Thank you for your consideration.

Cordially,

Ken Lawrence Director of Programming KUHT/HoustonPBS klawrence@houstonpbs.org

logo use[edit]

this one

Hi Sven, I noticed your very nice logo of X-org. However, I don't really understand the free/limited usage of this logo or its derivatives. Looking at the logo at the following link: x6technology.nl, I get the feeling that this can be used without any problems. Could you please confirm? Thanks.

Well, I'm not sure if I actually can grant you permission to use this picture, since it's a logo from an organisation and they identify with that logo. Anyway you should mention anywhere where you got that logo, see the license text on File:X.Org Logo.svg that claims that you must attribute the work, that is - say where it is from (link to picture or http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Sven). --Sven (talk) 22:50, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not all of your uploads are "made by User:Sven"[edit]

Please don't tag uploads, that have not been designed/drawn by you, with a tag that says "This file was made by User:Sven". This statement suggests that you created the work, which obviously isn't true for logo uploads and possibly in some other cases. -- intgr [talk] 13:41, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

s, p, and d sublevels and orbitals[edit]

Sven, Your diagrams are excellent. I was wondering if you could create five figures, explained below. All showing the labeled x, y and z axes. First: Shows the s sublevel. Second: Shows the p sublevel (all three p orbitals on the same set of axes). Third: Shows the three separate p orbitals (px, py and pz), each on its own set of axes. Fourth: Shows the d sublevel (all five d orbitals on the same set of axes). Fifth: Shows the five separate d orbitals, each on its own set of axes.

If you can't create these figures, can you tell me what software you use?

Can you help creating an ambigram, please?[edit]
