I noticed that you uploaded a file using the name File:EF1 tornado damage example.jpg. A file by this name already existed on Commons. Overwriting an existing file should not be done except when making minor, uncontroversial corrections, so the file has been restored to its previous version. If the file that you attempted to upload is within our project scope and is in the public domain or published under a free license, please upload it again under a different name. Thank you. How to create animated population pyramids ?[edit]

Hi Sdgedfegw,

I love your work on population pyramids, especially the animated South Korea population pyramid (GIF file) that you uploaded a few months ago.

I just would like to know what tools you used to create this file, because I would like to create a similar animated population pyramid for France. All the datas are available here : https://www.insee.fr/fr/statistiques/3312958

Thank you ! --ΛΦΠ (talk) 06:17, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm using Excel 2019 to create population pyramids, for the animated one, I'm just create 60 .png images then generate the .gif file using a free .gif generator on the internet. It took several hours though. -- Sdgedfegw (talk) 06:18, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That's a wonderful work I have Excel 2010 but I can't find how to create a population pyramid. Could you send me your Excel file with population pyramids of South Korea ? I'll just have to change the datas to generate the population pyramids for France. Then I'll use a free tool to create the GIF file. You can use WeTransfer and send me the link. Thank you so much if you have time to do it !! --ΛΦΠ (talk) 14:29, 7 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think it could be a little too hard for you to create the France demographic transition on your own so I'll create it for you. ask me anything that you want in the France chat and I'll do it for you, for example a French version. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sdgedfegw (talk • contribs) 17:20, 12 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your very kind proposal to create the file by yourself. Here is the official webpage of INSEE (French Statistics Institute) on which you can see French age pyramids since 1900. They propose an Excel document with all the datas (here). However some datas are lost between 1914 and 1920, and datas are clearly not significant for the period of the WW2. The GIF file of the animated French population pyramid should therefore start with datas of 1946 until 2020. If you have time to do it that would be fantastic !! --ΛΦΠ (talk) 22:25, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've just discovered that German statistics year-by-year are also available here (by Destatis, German official statistics institution). Quite a funny tool with forecasts until 2060. --ΛΦΠ (talk) 16:46, 12 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Man, I had been wondering how you guys made them look that way. I think I need some pointers. Is this an OK replication? https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sweden_Age_Structure_2019.svg --Tallungs (talk) 01:24, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ive made the demographics transition you asked for. sorry for the late respond, ive been busy lately. im planning to do germany's tomorrow --sdgedfegw (talk) 16:45, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much, it looks wonderful !! Can you also create a second version of the animated pyramid with only years 1946 to 2020 (by removing years 1901 to 1945)? The two versions would be interesting: the 1901-2020 version for the oldest data and 1946-2020 for the most reliable data. Thank you ! Can't wait to discover the German animated pyramid too :) --ΛΦΠ (talk) 20:31, 4 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:France_demographics_transition_1946-2020.gif heres the france demographics transition 1946-2020 file that you asked for. ill make germanys later, around thursday --sdgedfegw (talk) 17:01, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you!! That's really perfect! --ΛΦΠ (talk) 17:37, 5 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, not the guy you asked, but I made made one for Germany not too long ago: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Gemany_population_pyramid.gif --158.174.23.210 12:44, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, can I ask where you found the data to build your amazing animated pyramid for France? the link provided (https://www.insee.fr/fr/statistiques/3312958) does not seem to work anymore... many thanks! MickaelDugast (talk) 14:50, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Population pyramid of Ukraine[edit]

Hi Sdgedfegw,

Regarding File:Ukraine population pyramid 1.1.2021.png, could you add in the description where the data comes from? I think that your pyramid includes people living in Crimea and it would be important to mention it. Indeed, people in each age group are more numerous in your pyramid than in the official data, as you can see on this animated population pyramid of Ukraine from 1989 to 2020 from the official Ukrainian statistics website (stopping in 2020 however) : http://www.lv.ukrstat.gov.ua/dem/piramid/all_e.php

For exemple, if we look at the number of males aged 33 on the official 2020 pyramid, it says 374,243 people, while on your 2021 pyramid, the number of males aged 34 is about 397,000. The problem is the same for almost each age group: the data of your pyramid seems to include more people than the official data.

By the way, as I really enjoy your animated pyramids... it would be wonderful if you could make a Ukrainian animated pyramid over 30 years with the official data from Ukrainian Population Statistics!!

All the best. --ΛΦΠ (talk) 18:45, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Japan demographic data[edit]

Hey again, I was looking to replicate your gif of the japanese population data found here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Japan_population_pyramids_1888-2019.gif but I'm haing trouble finding the pre 1920 data you used. Could you possibly link me your source or send me the raw data? I want to see how it'd look with the missing years interpolated.--Tallungs (talk) 10:09, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I got it from https://web.archive.org/web/20171123082834/http://www.stat.go.jp/data/chouki/zuhyou/02-02.xls which I found on this post https://minato.sip21c.org/demography/makepyramid-en.html. This post describe how to make population pyramid in some kind of software but since I'm too lazy to learn code and its not in the kind of format that I satisfied with, I just leave it there. You can check it out.

You could make a projection to year 2067/2100 using different color for the projected years.--sdgedfegw (talk) 02:18, 17 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

SVG[edit]

Hi. Would it be possible for to generate your graphs such as File:Cuba single age population pyramid 2020.png as vector graphics (SVG) rather than as bitmaps? Thanks DemonDays64 (talk) 02:19, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The way I do this is export as PDF from Excel, then convert it to SVG with Inkscape. --Tallungs (talk) 00:33, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
