Sorry. I found it on Wikipedia and figured I could transfer it over. I didn't realize I wasn't supposed to until too late.

Please tag images you upload[edit]

Thank you for providing images to the commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on the commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:

  • Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
  • State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly.
  • If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
  • Add a Copyright tag - images without a appropriate license tag will be deleted.
  • Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate Categories, so it can be found by others.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki.

It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more Information, have a look at Commons:Licensing, Commons:criteria for inclusion and the Community Portal. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the village pump. Thank you. -- Joolz 21:42, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

UN images[edit]

I noticed you've tagged many images which have "Source: United Nations" with {{PD-self}} - the template states that you are the creator, which conflicts with the source line - Which is correct? -- Joolz 23:51, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The data for the charts/diagrams come from the United Nations. However, I created the charts/diagrams. As a result, I believe I can release the charts and diagrams into the public domain. When I say 'source' on the chart/diagram I am referring to the source of the data, not to who created the actual chart/diagram.

Ok, thanks for the clarification! Regards Joolz 01:24, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Suggestion using png files for diagrams[edit]

Please see Image talk:Rapes per 1000 people 1973-2003.jpg for remark on using *.png files for diagram images. H Padleckas 4 July 2005 14:19 (UTC)

I will look into redoing this diagrams as .png files in the future. I don't normally work with .png files and don't know much about them so I probably should read up on them. So you know, I'm in a rather frantic stage of preparing material for a textbook, which will preclude me from changing the format right away. But I will look into this. Thank you for the suggestion.
Hey... not sure if you're still around. But I have another suggestion: use m:EasyTimeline!!! It's a lot more easily editable by other wiki users. It takes a little while to get the hang of, but it's very easy to adapt existing graphs. cheers, pfctdayelise (translate?) 13:04, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

File:Violent crime rates by gender 1973-2003.jpg[edit]

Is this by gender of the victim or perpetrator? I assume victim, but I'm not sure. Thanks. DavidMCEddy (talk) 02:10, 23 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

File:Stages of social movements.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

@RTCEarly: Are the numbers plotted in your File:Stages of social movements.jpg from the National Crime Victimization Survey or the Uniform Crime Reports?

Also, could you please provide a more precise reference to your source to make it easier for someone else to access the raw data you used?

You may know that the Uniform Crime Reports are notoriously unreliable, being impacted by people's willingness to report crimes to law enforcement and by the willingness of law enforcement to report crime to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation.
