Thanks for uploading Image:Lieut frank luke jr.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL-selfto release it under the GFDL orPD-selfto release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Hello RJHall, I am quite sure that Image:Iridescent cloud Utah.jpg shows no irridescent cloud, but rather a Parhelion (sundog). Compare the image to the sundogs seen here or here, and with a photo from an iridescent cloud like this. Maybe you want to change the name accordingly. --Vesta 10:42, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello RJHall, I am not a administrator, so I can't change the file name. I think you should upload the image under a new name, and the use the template {Bad name} for speedy deletion of Image:Iridescent cloud Utah.jpg. --Vesta 22:13, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry you don't like the name. It was a bit of artistic license, I admit. — RJHall 21:25, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Granville Elements of Calculus[edit]

Basically, because it doesn't make sense to categorize things by the way we expect them to be used. For example, I wouldn't put images I intend to add to a Wikipedia article in Category:Wikipedia. We don't know how the images will be used in the future, so we instead categorize them by source. In this case, since you have a category of images from a single work, it makes sense to put the category in "Scanned English texts", since they are digital copies of a work (or "text") written in English. Hope that makes sense. --Spangineeren ws (háblame) 22:53, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Well my problem then become that I am using those images for a very specific purpose, and if those images get renamed (for example) then I end up with a broken book in wikisource. Perhaps it would make more sense to put the images in wikisource after all. — RJHall 16:04, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Remember that the purpose you intend is not the only purpose that the images could have—for example, images from the NSRW can be cropped and placed into Wikipedia articles (this has already happened a few times). And who knows who else will use them. Putting images on individual projects in my view is short-sighted, because it hampers accessibility (if I want an image I have to look in any number of places, including Wikipedia, Wikisource, and Commons) and because it makes it impossible to use images between projects. CommonsTicker and other tools exist to help avoid the problem of renaming that you're talking about. See Template:Original. All Wikimiedia projects encourage people to put free-use material on Commons, and there hasn't been significant backlash due to things getting renamed or the like. There will have to be some initial effort to make sure that people on commons understand how our images are used and that they can't be renamed/deleted at will, but so far I think it has gone well. --Spangineeren ws (háblame) 21:03, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your comment was "Adding a reference for use of image on FA pages". Please tall me what an "FA" page is.
thx --D-Kuru (talk) 16:20, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

On the English language wikipedia, images on Featured Article (FA) candidate articles are now required to have validating references. I added the reference because I would like to take the English-language electron article through the FA process.—RJHall (talk) 17:27, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Even I have removed your edit I also don't understand why I should do this. I usually don't use the revert button in the history (And If I do I add a reason everytime) . I think that I just reverted your edit by accident while editing some other files in the same category or something the like. Thanks for rebuilding your edit :-)

Fair use[edit]

Sorry - images with fair use claims are not allowed on Commons.— Preceding unsigned comment added by MichaelMaggs (talk • contribs)

Yes, I already tagged it with a speedy deletion template.—RJHall (talk) 18:19, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, RJHall!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:Size IK Peg.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Category discussion notification Category:Craters on the Moon has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.
In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

greetings[edit]

Hi, I've seen and used your work here File:Nuclear_energy_generation.svg. It is really useful on articles such as fr:Chaîne_proton-proton, so thanks ! I'd also like to introduce a new request : would it be possible to make such a graphic displaying the differents branches of en:Proton–proton_chain_reaction (same as the french one), still function of the temperature ? Unfortunately the pages I linked here only tells the values of the temperature when one branch become "stronger" than an other, not how the curve behave bewtween them. By any chance, you might have more informations than I do. Cheers, --Hoshimoriyo (talk) 12:09, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
