Thank you for your contributions. Your image or other content was recently deleted, or will soon be deleted, in accordance with our process and policies, because it was not, or is not, within our scope. Please review our project scope, but in short, Commons is targeted at media files including photographs, diagrams, animations, music, spoken text and video clips. Wikimedia Commons does not contain text articles like encyclopedia articles, textbooks, news, word definitions and such. Each of these other kinds of content have their own projects: Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikisource, Wikinews, Wiktionary and Wikiquote.

Wiki Loves Africa 2020[edit]

Contribute to Wiki Loves Africa and to how the world sees Africa!
Dear Ptyx

In the past, you contributed to the Wiki Loves Africa competition. This February, you have another opportunity to create beautiful photographs on the theme of "transportation" that could change how the world understands people and culture in your part of Africa. As with previous years, there are also many exciting cash prizes.

Wiki Loves Africa is an annual public contest where people across Africa can contribute media (photographs, video and audio) about their environment to Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia and other project websites of the Wikimedia Foundation.

Images from the competition have helped millions learn more about Africa and see Africa more clearly from an African perspective. Overall, nearly 5000 people like you have contributed to this photo contest, and contributed 18,000 images about Africa.

When does it take place?

The 2020 competition will start on the 15th of February 2020 and close on 31st March 2020.

What should we contribute?

Pictures ! audios ! videos ! The theme for the 2020 contest is... Africa on the Move ! This theme encompasses a host of approaches and is intentionally open to interpretation. It encourages the submission of visual representations of movement or transportation, whether by path, road, sea air, by self-propelled, animal or mechanical means, or the historical or contemporary structures that have been created to facilitate movement or the transportation of people, goods, or animals.

In addition to the value your photos contribute to understanding and African visibility, there are several prizes on offer. The international prizes are:

  • 1st prize: US$1000
  • 2nd prize: US$800
  • 3rd prize: US$500

Additional categories are:

  • Culturally specific or traditional representations of transport or structures that facilitate transportation : US$500
  • Prize for best quality video: $500

Each winner will also receive a pack of goodies (proposed: a hat "I edit Wikipedia from Africa", a branded battery, stickers). Additional prizes will be available in some countries.

For rules and information about how to participate, or to join the contest, click on Contribute to the Wiki Loves Africa photo contest.

Warmest,

Anthere, for the Wiki Loves Africa Team

Thanks for uploading File:Yufka yapımı.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

I found you claim ".... soit des rectifications de niveaux ou de cadrage d'images d'autres contributeurs." I just wanted to edit pictures about Bosra and found you had decided to change my pictures. I want you to stop that, I do not think you are "rectifying" them, but just ruining my originals. I am good with Photoshop and do my own correcting if I find it necessary. I confess I sometimes rectify pictures by others, but only if they are, for instance, deeply underexposed, have the wrong colour, or are obviously lopsided. By the way: I will overwrite your edits, as I will put in their stead full size pictures. Don't touch them.

- After writing till here I checked some other edits that you made. I find you too brighten pictures that seem underexposed. I find that rather acceptable, but .... The point is: I visited Bosra on an overcast day and wanted to preserve the atmosphere, both inside buildings (such as in Al-Omari Mosque (Bosra)) and outside. Your edits bring out some more detail, but ruin that atmosphere. And on one of the pictures where you straightened the Bâb al-Quandil there is, in the right bottom corner, the kind of white space that appears if you use the straighten option and forget to check if you stayed within the cadre. I always fill such a white space somehow, and do think you added an error to my picture. Also: when editing the pictures I sometimes have to choose between tilting the picture and get more details of the sides in the frame, or correct that tilt. Doing so, I lose details at the edge, which is what you did. I had made my choice, and don't like you correcting. A last reason: my pictures are often used in publications (120 and counting). I get requests for them, and usually send the originals and edits through the web. But as I am now putting edits on Commons as full sized originals, I may invite such authors and photo-editors to just download them from the Commons. This may be more important once I’m dead. And I do not like the thought they might be downloading your “rectifications de niveaux ou de cadrage” instead. There are plenty of pictures that need improving in Commons, but please leave mine alone. Dosseman (talk) 08:49, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour Ptyx,

Ptyx (talk) 10:01, 21 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You are persistent in editing works that I requested not to be touched (two today). In July I wrote, regarding other work by me:

I found you claim ".... soit des rectifications de niveaux ou de cadrage d'images d'autres contributeurs." I just wanted to edit pictures about Bosra and found you had decided to change my pictures. Yet you did it again, ruining the atmosphere of approaching rain on pictures that I found true to the situatioon as I found it, not as what you think it should have been. Other "improvers" used my pictures as a copy, that would be alright with me. But do not claim to "improve" my own. You seem to be a "levels" maniac, but I can decide levels myself. Also I read your statement in answer to someone else "Pour rappel tout de même, nous sommes dans le domaine de la photographie documentaire, pas de la photo d'art." I find that pretty arrogant. Dosseman (talk) 14:01, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
