There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

SVGs[edit]

Hello! I am afraid I will not be of much help on this. I am no specialist about SVG, just made a few of them and read some help pages...

I mentioned Bitstream Vera Sans because it was used on File:CryEngine family tree v11.svg (which is surprising if you say you do not have this font !). I just checked on my system, and I do not have this font either. Indeed, the result with DejaVu is not wonderful... Well, the SVG FAQ on fr.wiki advises to use either DejaVu or Bitstream... You may also used any of the fonts mentionned on meta:SVG fonts (As I learned about this font thing just recently, my previous SVGs use Trebuchet, Calibri or Consolas. As of now, I would probably go for Lucida ; but that's just my personal taste).

The other thing is that this FAQ states that MediaWiki engine cannot render well fonts smaller than 18px. As many of your texts are under this threshold, that may explain the poor rendering.

Hoping this was helpful, Jean-Frédéric (talk) 20:12, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just came across this file, File:Chronique anglo-saxonne-fr.svg, and noticed it renders quite well at 400px (example). Just thought it might give you some ideas. Jean-Frédéric (talk) 23:11, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you very much for your responding. About File:CryEngine family tree v11.svg - ??? After your message I opened this file in Inkscape and checked all fonts. There are only Arial, Sans and Times New Roman. What utility you use to check the fonts in SVG files?
  • I had checked with Inkscape the File:Chronique anglo-saxonne-fr.svg and in this file the only font is used is Arial.
  • Do you know, how to install additional fonts in Inkscape? I searched solution to this problem and found, that BitStream Vera is used mostly under UNIX-like OS, but i use MS Win XP. --NeD80 (talk) 10:38, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I am truly sorry, I was busy IRL back then and after I just kept forgetting about this discussion. Please excuse-me.
For your first question, I used Inkscape to check fonts (maybe looking at XML code too, can't remember exactly) ; but I may have made a mistake when looking at fonts though.
I asked a friend from the French Graphic Lab ; they specifcally advise to use either DejaVu Sans Condensed (which looks like Arial) or DejaVu Serif Condensed (which looks like Times New Roman), and that other DejaVu fonts would not work as well. Both fonts should be available in Inskcape (I also use Win XP/Vista)
I hope this is helpful, and sorry again for the huge lag. Jean-Fred (talk) 19:50, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your responding very much! --NeD80 (talk) 20:00, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, NeD80!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
