I'm sorry, by mistake I've overwritten your Image:Berlin Reichstag.jpg photo with my picture. Can you re-upload please ? Wojsyl 22:32, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

Move-to-commons assistant feedback

I just tried your move-to-commons assistant on en:Image:HankoPanorama360.jpg, and it produced the following result:

Description

Summary

Hanko, Finland. A 360° panoramic photo shot from the water tower by J-E Nyström (Janke). Stitched in hugin by Ilmari Karonen.

That's pretty nice, but I'm sure you can see a few minor issues that could be fixed:

  • The fact that it didn't pick up Janke as an author is excusable, since that would pretty much require strong AI, but the fact that it listed me three times is simply a bug.
Fixed.
  • The redlinks in the description should be fixed. Probably the best and easiest solution would be to turn all links in the description into interwiki links. (This probably should apply to userpage links too, since we have no actual guarantee that User:Example on Commons is the same person as en:User:Example.)
Done.
  • The wikilinks in the upload summaries are rendered as HTML source code.
I only get them as HTML source. I've added a regexp trying to compensate for this now.
  • The "Commons upload time" isn't. Presumably you should just put "~~~~~" there instead of the time the script was called.
Done.
  • Also, the WikiSense checkbox doesn't seem to be working. There exist both Category:Hanko and Category:Panoramic which this image clearly belongs to, but there are no category tags in the output even though I'm sure I checked the box.
I have tried it with several images, and on some of them, WikiSense works, on some, it does not. Clearly an issue with WikiSense.

Anyway, thanks for the useful tool, and hope this helps make it even better. —Ilmari Karonen 11:36, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Also, the upload button should explicitly set the destination filename, the way the "upload a new version of this file" link on image description pages does. —Ilmari Karonen 11:48, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
Why? It gets set when you specify your local file anyway.
I have just used your (great) tool for en:Image:1stWorld.JPG. This is {{GFDL-self}} & {{cc-by-2.5}} but your script only took {{GFDL-self}}. It should search for all licence templates to work with multilicensing.
Done.
Another issue is that it took {{GFDL-self}} as a license, but of course that was not my image, so it should change {{GFDL-self}}s to some kind of {{GFDL-by}}.
It should be clear through the upload history.
I agree with the date issue discussed before of better ~~~~~. It'd give an unified date format too. What is this data inteded for? Image log already has it on each page.
The field seems to be required by the template.

Move-to-commons assistant

A bit of criticism:

In my opinion you are doing a big mistake allowing people to move graphics on commons not logged in. Why:

  • We have problems on pl.wiki that few users move articles with non-ortographic or stupid names. They do it because they dont know polish. We can try to talk with them on commons, but how to contact someone who is using your bot via www?
  • imagine vandals making mass uploads with stupid names, etc.

I think that you should reprogram your bot that it will need username and password and upload as this user adding info that it was made via www interface.

And please place a large banner:

Do not move pictures with names in languages that you do not understand!

And it would be nice if you place smaller info, that pl.wiki doesn't want non-polish speaking users to move our graphics!

--WarX 13:00, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Archie Shepp6.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Dein Tool ...

You uploaded this image which you claim to be your own work. On the upload page you agreed to place it under a Free license but did not specify which one. Please do so by adding a suitable copyright tag. --Jnn 11:41, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Bildtankstelle

Hallo Magnus, zweiter Punkt, anderes Thema. Bzgl.

Moving files to commons.

Hi I see you've made a bot to transfer files to commons.

There are two problems I found:

  1. Encoding of letters is buggy (looks like your changing it to ISO or something and then sending it as is - which renders like this: "Wzór mojego pomysłu")
  2. Acordning to Template:Information - the Permission field should be a 'brief' explanation of the licence. You could make an array that would connect some standard text to a tag you've found. The licence tags should be below the Information template. Alternatively in the Information template you could add the tags in a form like this: {{Cc-by-sa}}.

Additionaly on pl.wiki we have a pretty common standard of having two sections "== Opis ==" and "== Licencja ==". The first one means "Description" and the second one means "Licencing" (usually tags only). I belive the bot should take this into consideration.

Category:Cities in Germany

Bitte beim hochladen keine Bilder direkt in die o.a. Kategorie laden!

--gildemax 14:37, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

I notised strange categories in this image. Also file hisory had licence tag, and its expanded, so there is orphan ')' in last line. Maybe it is better put file history inside <nowiki>-tags --Tomia 19:53, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Hello. Can you please change the bot to use "(year) births" and "(year) deaths" categories? Example: Image:David Wilkie.jpg "Category:1785 births" "Category:1841 deaths", not "Category:1785" "Category:1841". "Category:(year)" should be date of image.

Leider schlägt dies fehl mit der Fehlermeldung: "WikiRevision given a null title in import."

--Magnus Manske 13:41, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

--Johannes Rohr 07:27, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi! When going through Category:Images with unknown source as of 4 July 2006, I noticed that you had marked images as not having license but you hand't notified the uploader. Notifying the uploader is very important, so I have retagged them with a new date. -Samulili 14:20, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Redundante Kategorie?

Proposition given here is OK :) But IMO template {{GFDL-self}} should be converted to {{GFDL}} or {{GFDL-user-w}}. I think date format should be "dd mmm yyyy" (for example "21 Mar 2006") because it is free of ambiguities. Ss181292 11:24, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

I often get CommonsHelper telling me "This image has no verificable good license" when it's perfectly valid. I have encountered it with PD-art, PD-self and PD-author tags. // Liftarn

And, {{attribution}} seems to be considered an invalid license as well. // Liftarn

On Uploading Bildtankstelle Images

They are very beautiful photos, I know. But please understand, non-categorized images are useless in Commons. "Unknown Flowers" only confuse the Category:Flowers. Please consider it . --Horcha 13:50, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

In Category:Bildtankstelle, there is a list of photos of flowers from a CD collection. I can't read in Deutsh, please could you check the http://www.bildtankstelle.de/lightboxphoto/index.php?pageId=118&start=0 Licence], please before I categorize these flowers.. Thx--Patricia.fidi 22:37, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

I'd like to point out that the small contraption you call "borie" is in fact a garden or park facility, built in mortared stone masonry and covered in tiles (on a wooden structure). It is customary in South-Western France to reserve the word "borie" for old agricultural farms or, at least in some circles, for dry stone huts with a corbelled or keystone stone roof, although the latter sense is questionable as the real name of the drystone hut in the Dordogne department is "chabano" or "chebano". Cordialement, --Erussal 13:50, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

|Description=Bildbeschreibung, die hier nicht interessiert

Folgendes:

{{de|Bildbeschreibung, die hier nicht interessiert}}

Free fi.wikipedia license to CommonsHelper

Hi! CommonsHelper doesn't seem to recognize fi:Template:Vapaa and fi:Template:Vapaa/NimiMainittava as a free licenses. Ojn Commons, these correspond to {{Copyrighted free use}} and {{Attribution}} respectively. I'd appreciate it if you could add these licenses to CommonsHelper. Thanks for your time and thanks for the tools you have made. Samulili 20:10, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for making CommonsHelper understand the Finnish information template (fi:Template:Tiedoston tiedot), too. It seems to me that CH doesn't understand that "Kuvaus"-field equals the description field. Samulili 19:24, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Commons dupes

Hallo!

--Matt314 17:20, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
Would it be possible to add checkboxes, so that you can select all the images that have to be replaced, and in the end a button "Replace all selected images using Orgullobot" or whatever? -- Bryan (talk to me) 21:19, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
Besides technical issues, that would give non-sysops write access to the protected bot job queue (alas, limited). Sorry, not gonna happen soon. --Magnus Manske 13:46, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Commonshelper-Fehler

Hallo Magnus! Flommons

Hi, Magnus. I saw Yann's addition of a link to Yann's Flommons page to Yann's User page here, liked what I saw, and decided to try the same thing myself. However, I am having a problem with doing that, in that for two of my images, http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/4a/AABarnstar.png/240px-AABarnstar.png and http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/1f/Purple_Star.png/240px-Purple_Star.png , I get broken image links instead of the images, and further research shows that the text behind the broken image links is "Bad title" and "The requested page title was invalid, empty, or an incorrectly linked inter-language or inter-wiki title. It may contain one or more characters which cannot be used in titles." Perhaps there are no 240px thumbnails because the source images are only 111px wide? If so, the tool should be fixed or the database should be populated with 240px thumbnails of smaller images for Flommons use. Any advice you could offer would be helpful. Thanks!   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 20:38, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Strange. I looked at your flommons-page and got two broken preview images, a bug I then fixed. The links were and are OK, as far as I can tell. If they are still broken for you, please give me a link to the flommons-page where they are broken, so I can reproduce your error. --Magnus Manske 15:04, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing the bug, but the firewall I'm behind at present won't let me view my flommons page at present. :(   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 11:10, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi, In regards to this convent/monastery in Germany - where is it? There are a number of places called "Steinfeld" in Germany (see here), and to create the category, it might be handy to link it to the Landkreis or city it is in. Thanks. Deadstar 12:00, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
