--20:08, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Churches in Naples[edit]

Hallo Bdk.

Orchi (talk) 12:00, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ganz einfach :-) In deutschsprachigen Wikis musst Du in der monobook.css-Zeile Category durch Kategorie ersetzen, in anderssprachigen Wikis natürlich entsprechend übersetzt.
Und z.B. mit
a[href*="Orchi"] { color:turquoise2; }

Speedy deletion query[edit]

Hey Bdk, I am confused as to why you didn't delete this redirect. Regardless of how long it's been around, it is not used anywhere. The deletion policy doesn't say anything about file redirects (maybe I'm missing something), so mind explaining that action to me? Thanks, Ajraddatz (talk) 04:26, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ajraddatz, see Commons:File renaming: "In most cases a file redirect should be left on the original page, except if it is a misleading or promotional name." – This is mainly because files can also be linked from outside (non-Wikimedia wikis), which often is the case for files that were used in the main namespace especially on en.wikipedia (or on other large wikis), for files that were once used on a very prominent place here (e.g. featured images), for files that had a very general/generic filename like e.g. Yellow_flower.jpg (and therefore were found at the top of corresponding search results), and generally for files that were long around here on Commons under their old filenames. On the other hand, keeping a redirect even if it's not used on Wikimedia wikis is less important for files just recently uploaded. I hope this helps. --:bdk: 11:12, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the reply, I'll be sure to use that advice when tagging redirects for deletion in the future :-) Ajraddatz (talk) 15:01, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rotation request[edit]

Thank you for not reverting my rotation request anymore (I need the image rotated 270 degrees clockwise for layout purposes; it does NOT change its use or meaning in both linked wikipages).- Nanobliss (talk) 23:38, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

first hint + reply --:bdk: 23:49, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but I have given you a valid reason and I cannot upload a different version. This old image was rotated recently for similar reasons: [1]. Thank you again for not reverting my rotation request anymore. - Nanobliss (talk) 00:01, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry again, but I cannot upload a different version of this file. If you do not allow me to rotate the image by using rotabot I will have to stop using the image and replace it with one that better suits the article's layout. Layout is extremely important in order to facilitate readers and to make them understand the content more easily. Let me remind you again that the information the image conveys does not change at all when rotated 270 degrees clockwise, as it illustrates crab steering. - Nanobliss (talk) 07:12, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
should be clarified now … --:bdk: 17:00, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I am very sorry but your arguments still don’t make any sense to me:
a) if on external sites that link to a wiki commons image an image rotation poses problems (i.e. distortion because of landscape to portrait orientation, or directional captions that then no longer correctly relate to the image) then this is the case with ALL images. The wiki rotabot functionality should then either be disabled permanently, or replaced by a version that uploads a rotated image as requested automatically while leaving the original imagefile untouched;
b) contrary to the purse hook image, the crab steering image works okay in transferring its meaning no matter which way the front end of the vehicle points. For right to left reading languages a 270 degree clockwise rotation of the original image would result in the same direction of travel of the vehicle as the reading direction. What could be more natural? And for left to right reading languages it would result in the same orientation as the original file offers top to bottom reading languages. If image orientation really is language dependent, as you imply, then wiki commons cannot be a common repository, or it should at least have a language dependent upload.
I simply requested use of an existing wiki functionality and expected content related arguments. Your arguments to deny me this use only relate to the wiki functionality itself, however, not to the content. Therefore disable this functionality or adapt it as specified above. Thank you. Nanobliss (talk) 18:55, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Image transfers to/from Commons[edit]

Hi Bdk I see you you transfere (copy) quiet a lot of images from other sites to Commons including a number of my photos (Thank you as I keep intending to upload more to Commons in exchange for the ones I'm copying to Wikia). Is there a tool you use to help do this or do you have to copy each one individually via your computer and add the data manually ? If there is a tool will it work to copy images and data (information template) from Commons to my Tractor wiki project to simplify adding the images to wikipedia pages i'm re-using and expanding on the wiki.

If your looking for particular machine make or model or types of equipment let me know as i took about 20,000 tractor, steam engine and vintage vehicle (car, truck & buses) photos last year at UK events and museums. I have several 100 from this years LAMMA show which i have not uploaded to the Wiki yet.

Sorry this is in English I dont speak/type German - BulldozerD11 (talk) 22:52, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello BulldozerD11, sorry for the late reply … I transferred your images manually (sort of automated via an individual script, but not using any tool that's available online). Many thanks for your offer to upload more photos from your great archive. I'll let you know if I have an idea how this could be done in an easy way, and if I see a need for special images :-) --:bdk: 01:09, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Blühende Obstbäume im Frühling[edit]

nahmd Bdk,

Dear Bdk. I am writing to you to inform you that you are in danger of losing your adminship on Commons because of your inactivity in the past six months.

If you want to keep your adminship, you need both to sign at the current inactivity run page within 30 days of today's date, and also to make at least five further admin actions in the following six months. Anyone who does not do so will automatically lose administrator rights.

Notification about possible deletion[edit]

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hallo!

Beste Grüße, High Contrast (talk) 23:14, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you have a moment, could you do me a favor. I decided to occupy my time to list the no-FoP files in Italy. It has been a long and difficult work that needs to be reviewed by administrators. Please, could you check if everything is correct on User:Raoli/Deletion requests/FoP Italy? Thanks! Raoli ✉ (talk) 23:19, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Raoli, it seems you've asked several users the same question (to check this page). Personally, I don't have the time at the moment to read all the related discussions, and I'm not specialized in Italian FoP issues, so I guess there's no real need for comments from my side. --:bdk: 01:09, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Bdk. Category:Aceh has too many images from Tropen Museum and US Navy. Do you have a solution? Perhaps we should add Aceh subcategories for them so we can remove Aceh category from them. Thanks. -- Si Gam (talk) 14:17, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Brighton seafront museum?[edit]

Hi there. I've been busy categorising images from Brighton, East Sussex, and came across 3 photo's of bits of the West Pier. According to your description these are at the "Brighton seafront museum".
