First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy.

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page, write this: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

А иначе ти ме питаше нещо за качванията, нали. Аз съм си от край време привързана към стария формуляр за качване, с малкото на брой поленца, който всеки може да си върне по подразбиране чрез лична настройка: Special:Preferences >> Gadgets >> Use the old-style upload form layout. Там, в полето за описание, в което по подразбиране стои един празен шаблон за попълване, вместо да избирам от падащото меню даден лиценз си го изписвам като лицензен шаблон (в случая беше {{LostBulgaria|...}}) и той си заема там съответното място. Когато има за качване повече на брой снимки с еднотипна информация/лиценз, след като се качи първата, просто давам бутона Back на браузъра и се връщам към формуляра, който продължава да си стои с попълнените параметри - и всъщност се пести немалко време така :) →Spiritia 13:20, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open[edit]

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Dear Laveol,

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).

  • In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
  • In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)

We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:

  1. 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
  2. In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
  3. In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.

Здравей,

получаваш това писмо, тъй като миналата година си участвал в изданията на „Уики обича Земята 2015“ или „Уики обича паметниците 2015“. Сега, до края на месец юни, те каним отново да участваш в тазгодишното фотосъстезание „Уики обича Земята 2016“. То се провежда при същия регламент, но в сравнение с миналата година – и с награден фонд!

Отново търсим твоите снимки от защитените природни обекти на България – национални и природни паркове, резервати и защитени местности и отново това могат да са както пейзажи, така и снимани в близък план животни и растения. Отново няма ограничения за броя снимки, с които можеш да участваш в конкурса и можеш да използваш същата регистрация в Общомедия като миналогодишната. Единственото условие на конкурса е да отдадеш снимките си под свободен лиценз и без водни знаци и други надписи с декларации за авторството върху тях.

А наградите? Те са за авторите на първите 10 класирани снимки, които продължават в международния кръг на „Уики обича Земята“ и ще представят страната ни. Авторите на първите 10 снимки ще получат награди ваучери от фото магазин или книжарница, а една от тези 10 снимки ще бъде издадена като официална пощенска марка на Р. България. И това ако не е вълнуващо? Междувременно, ако качиш над 25, 50 и 100 снимки, ще получиш съответно виртуална бронзова, сребърна и златна значка от талисмана на конкурса – кукумявката Уози ;)

Въобще тази година участието в „Уики обича Земята“ е много по-интересно и вълнуващо, и също толкова важно за разрастването и подобряването на свободно достъпното енциклопедично знание на български език! Затова не се колебай, а просто участвай! :)

„Уики обича паметниците 2016“ започва! :)[edit]

Здравей!

Организационният екип на фотоконкурса „Уики обича паметниците“ те кани от 15 септември до 14 октомври да участваш на тазгодишното издание на конкурса и да помогнеш за съхраняването на културното наследство на България и илюстрирането на свободната енциклопедия Уикипедия. Изпратихме ти това писмо, тъй като знаем за твоята съпричастност към уикипедианската кауза от участието ти в някое от досегашните издания на състезанията „Уики обича паметниците“ или „Уики обича Земята“ през 2015 или 2016 година.

Отново търсим твоите снимки от културните паметници на България – манастири и църкви, възрожденска архитектура, автентични крепости, музеи и музейни експонати. И тази година няма ограничения на броя снимки, с които можеш да участваш в конкурса. 25, 50, 100 или повече – зависи от теб! Както всички фотографски конкурси в Уикимедия, най-важното условие е, че трябва да предоставиш снимките си под свободен лиценз, без водни знаци и други надписи с декларации за авторството върху тях. Още за правилата на конкурса можеш да прочетеш оттук.

Най-добрите 10 снимки, които журито класира от националния кръг на конкурса, ще продължат в международния кръг на „Уики обича паметниците“, където ще представят страната ни. А авторът на снимката-победител на международния кръг ще получи като награда участие на световната уики-конференция „Уикимания“, която ще се проведе през август 2017 година в Монреал, Канада.

Но по-важното е, че твоите снимки междувременно ще помогнат за илюстрирането на съществуващите статии в Уикипедия, а защо не и да вдъхновят написването на нови статии, свързани с българската култура и история! Отново търсим твоите снимки от защитените природни обекти на България – национални и природни паркове, резервати, защитени местности и природни забележителности и отново това могат да са както пейзажи, така и снимани в близък план животни и растения. Специален акцент тази година поставяме на снимките на балканските и българските еднемични растителни видове. Отново няма ограничения за броя снимки, с които можеш да участваш в конкурса и можеш да използваш същата регистрация в Общомедия като миналогодишната. Не е нужно и снимките да са правени през този един месец – можеш да разгледаш архивите си и да споделиш снимки и от минали години и сезони. Единственото условие на конкурса е да отдадеш снимките си под свободен лиценз и без водни знаци и други надписи с декларации за авторството върху тях.

Авторите на първите 10 класирани снимки ще продължат в международния кръг на „Уики обича Земята“ и ще представят страната ни. Някои от партньорите ни в конкурса ще предоставят награди – книги по география и екология. Междувременно, ако качиш над 25, 50 и 100 снимки, ще получиш съответно виртуална бронзова, сребърна и златна УОЗ-значка  ;)

Но най-важното за „Уики обича Земята“ е, че с дарените от теб снимки енциклопедичното знание, достъпно на български език, се разраства и подобрява, тъй като използваме снимките за илюстриране на съществуващи и създаване на нови статии в Уикипедия! Затова не се колебай, а участвай! :)
