Images using "wiki" in the filename

Hello. You just restored File:Wiki-fisting.png (and I support you). But the name of the file is inappropriate. How is it related to "wiki"? Several times, while searching for Wikipedia logos, or other images related to wiki, I found this list of images:

As an admin, maybe you know what to do in this cases. How can we somehow rename theses images under an appropriate name (like "Wiki-fisting" -> "fisting"). Yours, Dodoïste (talk) 18:00, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Since the new policy is a bit to blury in my opinion I am aborting participating in that part of Commons untill further notice. There is enough admin-backlog work to do in other regions of Wikimedia Commons.
About the 'wiki'-filename: Searching for wikipedia logos by searching for "wiki" is not the way I would recommend. "wiki" is often used as "for Wikipedia". For what should be renamed, see Commons:Rename. For the logos, see Category:Wikimedia logosKrinkletalk 18:09, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Your gadget DropdownToTabbar

Your gadget DropdownToTabbar crippled commons when it is being used under IE8. The signature won't work and the objects under the arrow buttons won't show! --Tyw7  (☎ Contact me! • Contributions)   Changing the world one edit at a time! 08:01, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Someone (not sure if it was the Usability Team) changed the tabbar after I created the gadget. I'm no longer using the gadget myself because it didn't do it right. I wasn't sure at the time what was causing this. I can only asume a certain part of function my gadget is using within the tabbar-frame is either gone or changed making it fail. As usual with javascript, once 1 thing fails everything after that thing will not be loaded. So if the signature button and such no longer work, it's because they are loaded after my gadget. I suggest disabling my gadget for now, I'll look further into this tonight. –Krinkletalk 08:48, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Blanking

I didn't want to delete the page, just to remove the rename tag after moving it. Sorry - is there a better way? Jimfbleak (talk) 19:54, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Well, for one such a template is usually placed on the File-page, not on the Talk-page (which solves this matter automaticly, since the File-page obviously isn't blank when removing the rename-tag). In a case like you had I think the best way is to have the page deleted (if there was nothing else on the page). And if the talkpage was actually in use for discussion of any kind (meaning someone other then you contributed to the talkpage) then I'd linkify the template like this:
Before:
{{Rename|thing.jpg}}
After:
{{tlx|Rename|thing.jpg}}
Result: {{Rename|thing.jpg}}

Thanks for your help!

Hi. Thanks for your help in this edit! I hope you had some automated help with it.   — Jeff G. ツ 04:53, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I've automaticly pre-loaded a lot of edits on Commons with links to interiot's tool. A few of those required a little bit of extra manual assitance to make it right, yours was one of them still pending so I did that one manually with Search/Replace in Notepad but it wasn't a problem though. Your assistance please

You closed the discussion of File:DSS Photo of Ramzi Yousef in ISI Custody Immediately Upon Capture.png

The SPA who nominated this image cut and paste identical deletion rationales on four related images.

What I believe happened here was that either a busy and over-worked volunteer (me) saw that those other four images had a valid {{PD}} liscense on them, and overlooked that this one didn't -- or a busy and over-worked administrator overlooked a valid {{PD}} liscense.

In either case I don't believe there is any doubt that a {{PD}} liscense was justified for this image. Could you check the revision history for this image, and confirm that, unlinke the four related images, it never had a valid {{PD}} liscense? If it did have a valid {{PD}} liscense is it appropriate for either you or User:ABF to restore it -- without regard to whether it had been listed in the category for images that lacked valid liscenses? Geo Swan (talk) 17:24, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Like I said in the comment. This image had no license at all. The License-section was empty on upload (on 4 May 2010, at 22:01; by Sherurcij). After someone added a {{Nld}} template, the uploader added {{PD-USGov}}.
I did not know about {{PD-USGov}} when I closed the DR, since User:ABF deleted the file already I just closed the DR (asuming he forgot to do that). Now that we know a license was added, I'll restore the file so everyone can see it again. –Krinkletalk 18:00, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Another help

Could you rollback the lats two revisions here. The user is clearly trying to prove a POV. The image was kept for being inelegible and he's judging it by this one. Mizunoryu (talk) 01:17, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi Mizunoryu,
✓ Done
For your information though, if you click the "History" tab and click the date/time of the revision you want to revert back to. Then click the edit tab while viewing the old version. Then without making any changes, press Save. This, albeit it takes a second or two more, is the way non-rollbackers can undo to older versions. –Krinkletalk 01:27, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the help and the hint. I always try to do that, but I never get it. '-' I'll try to remember that, so I won't disturb you anymore . Thanks again. Mizunoryu (talk) 01:55, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Re: Please don't blank pages

Hello, I don't want to delete that page, I want to keep it as a disambiguation for the Island and the freguesia of Madeira with the same name, which is causing confusion. I blanked it as part of the process, as I'm emptying it manually. If I place there the disambiguation now the categories won't be removed with hotcat. I don't want a redirect, and also don't want it to be moved automatically, since the files from both place are mixed there. Do you still believe I'm acting wrongly? -- Darwin Ahoy! 23:16, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Language select

I think one of your recent edits made the language select thing appear at the top of every page (doesn't do anything). Mind taking a look at it? Rocket000 (talk) 01:26, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, it seems the onload-environment was a little different when importing it in vector.js or when importing in Common.js. The latter is a whole lot earlier in the DOM load than the latter. It's fixed now. –Krinkletalk 02:07, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. Rocket000 (talk) 02:48, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Krinkle. How come this is licenced as PD? It's a Wikimedia screenshot, which means that while text (all none of it) is GFDL/CC-BY-SA the toolbar images almost certainly aren't. Do we know they're PD? -mattbuck (Talk) 13:40, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

I've adjusted it. It was a bit more complicated due to it being a screenshot of the UsabilityInitiative-extension and not of anything specific to MediaWiki or Wikimedia. That extension is GPL. The PD-self was intended to describe that I release my changes to the original toolbar in the public domain (ie. claim no credit for it) - but that wasn't very clear, because obviously as it is a derivative of a ShareAlike-licensed work, mine should've been licensed as that one too. I'm not a 100% sure it is perfect now, as I'm short of time, I hope it's better than it was. I will take a closer look when I get back from vacation. –Krinkletalk 16:55, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks very much, there was a guy on IRC who got confused by it, I'll let him know it's fixed. -mattbuck (Talk) 18:24, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Just out of curiosity... what was this edit about? I assume there was a case where it matched the wrong element? If so, what was it? I'd like to know so I could avoid it myself in the future. Thanks, —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 10:24, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

That array contains 4 different IDs that are used througout the different skins in use in MediaWiki (ie. MonoBook, Vector etc.). I changed it so that the mw-prefixed ones are checked last (and thus, in the for()-loop below override others). This to prevent for example <code>== panel ==</code> from being matched (which renders <h2><span id="panel">panel</span></h2>) in the Vector skin where #mw-panel is the correct one. Because it now checks that one later, if such a heading would exist, it would then be overriden later on. I believe "panel" is more generic likely to be used somewhere then "#mw-panel". Ideally an additional check could be brought it to limit it to DIV-elements only (and not match a span, h2, or whatever other element) –Krinkletalk 10:30, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

User:Raboe001/license

In regards to User:Raboe001/licence, the MLD language switch seems to work in the tempolate page itself, but the language switch option doesn't appear in practice when the template is used in files. I remembered it working earlier... See File:Vittorito 01.jpg as the testing ground WhisperToMe (talk) 05:53, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

I can't seem to replicate an issue with the MLD template, User:Raboe001/licence and File:Vittorito 01.jpg look right to me. Could you check for example Category:Places and Albert Einstein. Do those work alright for you ? –Krinkletalk 12:48, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
The MLDs for Einstein and Places work on my end. WhisperToMe (talk) 18:26, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
I see... the "language select" placement moved to the top of the screen. It is not next to the affected template, but above to the beginning of the text. WhisperToMe (talk) 18:27, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Patrolling

Dag Krinkle.

Wouter (talk) 06:24, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

This is certainly *not* in sync with the rest of the about 100 cc-by(-sa) templates. You probably confused the template with {{Self}}. Multichill (talk) 08:14, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, I did indeed mix them up. I've corrected the few instances of it in my contributions. –Krinkletalk 15:37, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Revert, a few days ago

Re this revert: this IP has a known history of disruptive edits like this, primarily on English Wikipedia; his other technique is to add images to various irrelevant pages, usually without specifying either dimensions or "thumb", so they come out full-size. Today, I've spotted that he's been similarly active on commons, so have reverted where possible, or blanked out talk pages where he was the only contributor. I hope my actions were valid. --Redrose64 (talk) 16:18, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

“Firefox”

Hi. Sure "Firefox" is a title, but it consists of two English words: "fire" and "fox", and is pronounced as a compound of those two words, by the English rules. For a screen reader program, it only makes sense to treat it as an English word. Otherwise it won't know how to pronounce it (Esperanto: "

However here, on Commons, fair use is considered non-free and not allowed. –Krinkletalk 19:49, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
