hi there,

many thanks for your beautiful spider pictures :) i moved the pictures of the lynx spider to Unknown Oxyopidae, as Oxyopes viridanus does not exist as a species. However, it does also not really look like Peucetia viridana which is similar by name. Where did you get the name from? maybe we can figure out what it is :) cheers --Sarefo (talk) 10:06, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Sarefo ji, It has now been identified as Peucetia viridans on Spiderindia e-group.

I have changed category an description of this image and its sister images to Passiflora foetida. Passiflora subpeltata is quite different and has not the dissected calyx of P. foetida. You might wanna change the file names. epibase (talk) 11:39, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

User categories[edit]

Hello Mr. Garg. First thanks for uploading all those interesting bird pictures. Could you add __HIDDENCAT__ to your user categories wich mention your name? That is customary with User categories. Thanks. Lycaon (talk) 11:49, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I will certainly do that. Thanks. J.M.Garg (talk) 11:53, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can you tell me how to make a given category hidden? J.M.Garg (talk) 12:46, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's easy: just add __HIDDENCAT__ somewhere on that page (like here), and the magic occurs :-). Lycaon (talk) 13:07, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Mr.J.M.Garg[edit]

I love your pictures about birds. Too interesting your work. I am in the US and I am a Sci-fiction author for the first time. I was enchanted with the amazing picture of the "Paddyfield Pipit I4-Kolkata IMG 2109.jpg". I will like to know if I can use that specific picture for my scifi book for my profit. If you grant me the extra-official permission-authorization I will credit your name (or any information about your work that you want, etc) in the section "Credits" of my book to be copyrighted in the US copyright-gov-office. Please, let me know if I can. Any question, please, send me a message in my "Talk" section. Can I use that specific picture in all its natural colors OR do you want me to retouch it? Javier First_Time_Writer (talk) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:First_Time_Writer

Yeah, Javier ji, you can use it as you like including touch-up. In Credits, you can give as "J.M.Garg, India 'Creating Awareness about Indian Flora & Fauna': http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:J.M.Garg & http://groups.google.co.in/group/indiantreepix?hl=en" J.M.Garg (talk) 03:10, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Mr.J.M.Garg. I am too happy & honored to have your authorization to use that picture in my future book. I will cite exactly & literally everything what you told me here to include in the "Credits" section. I indeed I will also cite you in my "Dedication" section at the beginning of the book as proof of my good will to you. As soon the book is published (in maybe 1 year or less...) I will send you a free copy of my book, okay? Please, don't say here your address in this place, not now; I will tell you later when, okay? I will give you my real e-mail later, but not here. If you have any question, please let me know. Ah, your paddyfield pipit is one of the main characters in my scifi novel (drama-fantasy) and I put that he dies when she is 39 years old! Have a nice day and let's be friends. Pedro Javier (Puerto Rico, USA) First_Time_Writer

Hello, J.M.Garg!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Nature category organisation in Commons[edit]

Hello. This to inform you that on Commons, the worldwide naming and structure for nature related categories is:

  • Nature of xxx
    • Flora of xxx
      • Flora subcategories
    • Animals of xxx
      • Birds of xxx
      • Insects of xxx
      • ... of xxx

So basically, your "Flora & Fauna in xxx " categories translate to "nature of xxx". Keep up the good work. --Foroa (talk) 09:26, 5 August 2009 (UTC) Moreover, Commons uses no title case nor ampersands in category names, so "Flora & Fauna in xxx" should be "Flora and fauna in xxx". --Foroa (talk) 09:43, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Turnera subulata[edit]

I have changed the name of a series of your images, as File:Turnera ulmifolia 'Elegans' in Hyderabad, AP W IMG 0221.jpg, to Turnera subulata. The cultivar name you use is probably rewritten from the names Turnera elegans and Turnera ulmfolia var. elegans which are both synonyms of Turnera subulata. Oxalis corniculata Vs Oxalis stricta[edit]

Hi, I am not an expert at this, but I found two similar looking pictures of Oxalis stricta (which is from India) and Oxalis corniculata (picture that you uploaded says it's from India too). However, the Oxalis corniculata picture that someone else uploaded has reddish-brown leaves and looks very different from yours. Yours resembles the Indian Oxalis stricta. So am confused, is it like they are two similar looking varieties, both of which are in India? Lilaac (talk) 17:12, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jungle Crow split[edit]

Hi J.M. - Jungle Crow has been split into 3 species by IOC:

  • Large-billed Crow Corvus macrorhynchos E Asia also C, S Malay Peninsula, Sundas, Philippines
  • Eastern Jungle Crow Corvus levaillantii N India to N Malay Peninsula
  • Indian Jungle Crow Corvus culminatus Peninsular India, Sri Lanka

To which species are your pictures in Category:Corvus macrorhynchos best ascribed, please?

Thanks! MPF (talk) 15:05, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, MPF, If it's so, then my Bharatpur & Himachal Pradesh (HP) images may come under Eastern Jungle Crow Corvus levaillantii, while that of AP (Andhra Pradesh) under Indian Jungle Crow Corvus culminatus Peninsular India, Sri Lanka. 59.93.196.243 07:19, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Solanum wendlandii[edit]

Hi J.M.Garg. I just looked at your pictures of Solanum wendlandii (File:Solanum wendlandii (Costa Rica Nightshade) W IMG 6700.jpg and File:Solanum_wendlandii_(Costa_Rica_Nightshade)_W2_IMG_6700.jpg) and I'm not quite sure, if they are identified correctly. According to [2], the shape of the corolla should be rotate-pentagonal, not star shaped like in your specimen. Furthermore, the style should be straight, the picture clearly shows a curved style. Maybe it would be best to move the pictures to Category:Unidentified Solanum for now? All the best, --Carstor (talk) 09:50, 12 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your photo of leucas aspera for organic farming training films[edit]

Dear J.M.Garg,

I would like to use your photograph of leucas aspera

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Leucas_aspera_at_Gandipet,_Hyderabad,_AP_W_IMG_9054.jpg

in a set of training films about organic farming. You can see the clip in which I would like to include it at http://www.biodynamic-farming.tv/plant_protection/herbal_extracts/the_herbs.html , 7 minutes and 15 seconds into the clip (replacing the current photograph of leucas aspera).

The films will remain available free of charge on this website, but I am preparing their additional publication on DVDs that will be for sale hence I won't publish them under GNU licence.

I’m unable to offer financial compensation for using your picture since for the last four years this film project only generated costs and no revenue and future income form DVD sales will probably at best cover past expenses, but I can send you a DVD copy of the films as a sign of gratitude once the DVDs have been made.

Please advise if such a use of your photograph seems acceptable and, in that case, how you should be credited. Please contact me by email using this contact form: http://www.biodynamic-farming.tv/about/contact.html

With kind regards, Joachim Siegert

@Shyamal: - Thanks! I'll put it in Cat:Unidentified Glaucidium. - MPF (talk) 12:16, 17 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Image use request[edit]

Dear Sir

I am currently co-authoring and editing a book on globally invasive bird species with Prof. Downs from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. I came across your images while writing a chapter on Jungle Mynas (beautiful). As they are not present in South Africa (where we are from), I am looking to source some images for the book. I wonder if you would be willing for me to use your images of jungle mynas? Of course I would credit you or the relevant source. We ideally need an image of an adult, juvenile, a nest site, and bird in flight. An image of the variation with a blue iris would also be valued. Any other images, roost, behaviour etc. you feel are of interest would be more than welcome too.

I look forward to your response Kind regards Lorinda Hart — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 105.225.22.214 (talk) 08:49, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
