Critically evaluate Flickr licenses
File:Miley Cyrus at 2007 TCA.jpg has been marked as a copyright violation. You may have preserved the information shown on Flickr correctly when transferring the image here, but the Flickr uploader is not the copyright holder of this image. Either the image was created by someone else, or it is a derivative of someone else's work. As stated in Commons:Licensing, only the copyright holder may issue a license, so the one shown on Flickr is invalid. Always remember to critically evaluate Flickr licenses. Photostreams with professional-looking photographs, album covers, posters, and images in a wide range of styles or quality taken by many different cameras often indicate that the Flickr uploader either does not understand or does not care about copyright matters. See Commons:Questionable Flickr images for a list of known bad Flickr users.

Pay attention to copyright
File:These four walls.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Re: Your Flickr uploads[edit]

I'm very sorry, but after going through your uploads, it seems that the Flickr user you were getting these Miley Cyrus photos from, changed the licenses on all their images, adding a "non-commercial use" part (it looks like the dollar symbol with a line through it). Wikimedia Commons can't accept these new ones, but we can still keep the old ones that had been verified as having CC-BY or CC-BY-SA when they were uploaded (at that time). Please see COM:Flickr and you can ask me if you have any further questions. Killiondude (talk) 06:03, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File:Mileyworld banner.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

File names[edit]

Hey there, I noticed you uploaded a number of images from a Demi Lovato concert. If I may suggest, when you upload images, try to give them more descriptive names, such as who or what the focus of the image is. For example, I would name File:How did you get here under my skin?.jpg something like "Demi Lovato at DTE Energy Music Theatre 01.jpg" (the number at the end allows for multiple photos of the same name, for example, for photos taken at the same event). As it stands, the name doesn't tell you anything about who or where the picture took place, nor does your description, which simply says "A teen singing". Descriptive titles and description fields are very important so people who are searching the site can find what they are looking for. If you'd like, I can start the process of requesting renames for these images. Cheers, and let me know if you have any questions. :) Huntster (t @ c) 06:33, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I upload a lot of NASA-created images, which typically come with their own descriptions. For example: File:Cape Canaveral Lighthouse 2009.jpg. This clearly states what it is (Cape Canaveral Lighthouse), where it is located (Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida), and the situation surrounding why it was photographed (lighthouse was recently renovated). That's the heart of what a description would give. For the Demi Lovato image I referenced above, my suggestion of a description would be something like: "Singer Demi Lovato on stage during her Summer Tour 2009 at DTE Energy Music Theatre, Clarkston, Michigan." And then, in the date field, you'd include the date of August 18, 2009, formatted at 2009-08-18. Also remember that the descriptions for each image you upload don't need to be unique...since several of the images were of her at that particular venue, you could use that same description for each picture. Miley Cyrus images[edit]

Sorry for the delay, I had a family emergency. The author released the set of images under a free license (she just didn't change the license on the website). If you want, I can upload the images for you, but if you want to do it, just copy the OTRS permission from one of the images from the set I uploaded since it would cover the Cyrus images. I didn't upload them as I figured they weren't good poses of her (compared to the other ones we currently have). If you have any further questions or if you need clarification let me know. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 23:52, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The images that you uploaded by Angela George actually can't be used with the OTRS permission you listed (referring to these images: File:Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus at the Hannah Montana- The Movie Premiere.jpg, File:Demi Lovato at the Hannah Montana- The Movie Premiere.jpg, File:Demi Lovato at the Hannah Montana- The Movie Premiere 02.jpg, File:Demi Lovato at the Hannah Montana- The Movie Premiere 03.jpg, File:Miley Cyrus at the Hannah Montana The Movie premiere.jpg, and File:Miley Cyrus at the Hannah Montana The Movie premiere 03.jpg). Those are from a different author who hasn't given us permission for those images. We do have permission for the ones that you linked to on my talk page. I'd recommend putting the images I listed above up for speedy deletion. If you have questions, let me know. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 05:22, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That author only gave permission for specific images. The different author for the 2009 Oscars images gave permission for the entire set, that's why we can use those images that you linked to on my talk page. If you really want to use an image or two from the premiere (especially if it is going to be used in the article(s)), let me know and I can see if she is willing to release the images. But for now, those images should be deleted since they are currently not available under a free license. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 05:28, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Read this and will delete them. @Ipodnano05, Do not use images refering to OTRS tickets if you dont even know the content of the permission. In most cases the OTRS ticket is for specific image and not a blank permission to take everything someone had created. --Martin H. (talk) 05:32, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Let me know which ones (try to limit it to one or two), and I'll send a request tomorrow (heading off to bed now). Sorry for any confusion I may have created, permissions can be tricky at times. I can't guarantee that she'll release the images, but if they're most likely going to be one of the main images, that will be helpful. Thanks for helping out Martin. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 05:35, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, I'll send a request after work and will hopefully hear back from her later this week. You'll get the hang of the image process (it took me forever, and I still make mistakes). I'll let you know what she says. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 05:43, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not yet. I'm going to give her a few more days and then try another e-mail, as usually she replies back sooner than this. I'll keep you posted. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 07:13, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Miley Cyrus image deletion nomination[edit]

Regarding this image that you just uploaded, although you correctly put the same tag on this image as the flickr user, I think the Flickr user mis-tagged the image. It appears to be from a telecast. The copyright likely belongs to the broadcasting network, so the Flickr user was probably infringing on their copyright. I think it should to be deleted for that reason and have started a discussion here. Sorry.--Chaser (talk) 04:08, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Permissions[edit]

Good job in taking the time to do this, it's great you are securing new images for Wikimedia Commons. First, make sure that you got the author's permission to either release the images under the public domain, the Creative Commons Attribution, or the Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike (or another free license, although these are probably the best bet). If the author changed the license on Flickr to a compatible license then you can just copy and paste the formatting from File:KevinSorboJune08.jpg (click on history first and use the initial revision since it has the proper Flickr template that asks for an admin to verify the license). If you have already received the author's permission for the images through e-mail (Flickr mail) to be released under one of these licenses then what you can do is copy and paste the formatting of File:AnneHathawayJan10.jpg (be sure to update the date of the OTRS template. If you received an e-mail (and the author didn't change the license on Flickr itself), then you need to forward the e-mail to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org saying that the author gave you permission to use the image(s) (send the urls for the images once you upload them along with the forwarded e-mail so it is easy for the OTRS volunteer to find the image and add the OTRS ticket). Since you are somewhat new to the uploading I'd recommend adding a note to the talk page of the image saying that you forwarded the permission so a trigger-happy admin doesn't delete the image before the permission is seen (for example, see File talk:CoreyReynoldsJune09.jpg. If you need any clarification on any of this, please let me know. It's best not to rush and make sure you get it right to prevent the images from being deleted. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 05:51, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If the permission was for the above licenses, then the author can change it on the Flickr image's page. Once it is switched over to one of the compatible licenses, you can upload the image and add {{Flickrreview}} to the image page. That will allow either a bot or a reviewer to verify that the image has been released under the free license. Once that's ensured, the template will be updated. OTRS will no longer accept Flickr mail as a way of verifying permission as it puts a burden on their system. So the author will either have to change the license or attach the image in an e-mail with the permission for you to forward it to OTRS. Let me know if you have any questions. --Happy editing! A file that you uploaded to Wikimedia Commons from Flickr, File:Taylor Swift - Fearless Tour - Manchester.png, was found available on Flickr by an administrator or reviewer under the license Noncommercial (NC), No derivative works (ND), or All Rights Reserved (Copyright), which isn't compatible with Wikimedia Commons, per the licensing policy. Pay attention to copyright
File:Taylor Swift Speak Now World Tour 2011.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation.
