Hidden user categories

Hi High Contrast. Thanks for the pointer to more info when you reverted my edit at [1]. I've had a look, but I'm not sure I understand. There seem to be two types of categories here - photos *by* wikimedians, and photos *of* wikimedians. I can see why the former would be hidden and added to Category:User categories (in this case, that would be Category:Uploads by Fæ) as they are maintenance categories, but I'm not sure why the latter (in this case, Category:Fæ) should be hidden, as they are content categories rather than maintenance categories (e.g. they're included in category trees such as Category:Wikimedia UK board members). I've had a look at Commons:User-specific galleries, templates and categories policy, but that doesn't seem to really cover this situation although it seems to agree with me ("All files must be accessible via regular categories"). I think on whether a category of photographs of a person ought to be hidden or not. If we are consistent then the category probably should not be hidden, as is the case for many other "named" Wikimedians such as Category:Johnbod or Category:Jimmy Wales. DoD "foreign national" images

Hi, I've been pondering the DRs for the Department of Defense images which they class as taken by foreign nationals (they should all have "-O-" in the VIRIN). I think the best thing would be for me to add a filter so these are no longer uploaded as the majority will invariably have some doubt on copyright, depending on the non-US forces involved. I don't currently parse the VIRIN but I could add a breakdown of this identifier, it might take me a while to get around to it but probably before the end of the month.

Let me know if you are aware of particular exceptions to this type of filter, or classes of photograph that would not get trapped using this method.

Though I personally think there is mileage with regard to the legal rationale of how these are released, which includes a transfer of property to the DoD, I am aware that the Commons community consensus is that we would like to see some more demonstrable evidence than technical terms on the DoD image website; especially when we might doubt that the uploader is the original photographer. I'm quite happy to follow this precautionary approach on that basis. Thanks --Fæ (talk) 22:54, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

Hallo! Irgendwie bin ich mir nicht wirklich sicher, wie sinnvoll das ist. Die Straßenbahntype ist ja (in der Beschreibung) identifiziert, diese konkrete Type hat nur noch keine Kategorie, so wie auch alle anderen historischen Linzer Straßenbahntypen. "Ungesichtete Version"

Hallo High Contrast, Wenn du mal Zeit hast habe ich ein kleines Rätsel, auf das ich noch keine rechte Lösung weiß. Folgendes: Ich habe schon einige Tage auf WP am Artikel "Jaroslawski Awtomobilny Sawod" rumgebastelt, und immer erscheint im blauen Balken am oberen Rand: "Vorlagen- und Dateiänderungen dieser Version sind noch nicht markiert." Es liegt nicht an meinen Bearbeitungen, die sind als gesichtet markiert und werden auch standardmäßig angezeigt. Aber: wie bekomme ich (oder jemand anderes) diese Meldung dort weg? Macht mich noch ganz nervös... (hat aber noch Zeit. Ich werde die Seite jetzt zumachen und warten, ob was passiert :)). Kannst du dir das bei Gelegenheit mal anschauen? Danke dir. Hallo! Merkwürdig... Deine Bearbeitungen werden allerdings mit "[automatisch gesichtet]" angegeben, was so auch stimmt. Nervös machen braucht dich sowas wirklich nicht. Oftmals vertuen sich die Server und man kann dies evtl. manuell erneut sichten. Das habe ich nun gemacht - warum das von Nöten war ist mir schleierhaft. Naja... Das ist richtig. Ich hab emich mal ein wenig umgesehen und festgestellt, dass es ein MAZ-5432 ist, wenn auch die Scheinwerfer etwas geändert wurden. Steht jetzt auch in der entsprechenden Kategorie. Das eigentlich interessante ist, dass es ein Reimport aus Finnland sein könnte. KOFF ist finnisches Bier, die geänderten Blinker deuten darauf hin, dass er mal außerhalb Russlands fuhr. Einen schönen Nachmittag Dir,

Ich habe heute und gestern tatsächlich mal ein paar Fotos vom hiesigen Straßenverkehr zusammenbekommen :). Ein paar sind schon hochgeladen. Wenn du mal Lust und Zeit hast kannst du ja mal einen Blick drauf werfen. Der aktuelle MAZ-6312 könnte dich z.B. interessieren. Gegen den einen oder anderen Tip habe ich natürlich auch nichts. Aber wie gesagt, lass dich nicht stören, nur wenn du Zeit hast. Ich hätte noch ein paar GAZ-Modelle, die russische Post und noch ein bisschen anderen Kleinkram in Petto. Ja, ein Artikel zum ZIS-155 ist in Planung. Die Quellseiten sind schon alle zusammengesucht und geöffnet, ich muss nur noch anfangen. Mittelfristig will ich die Bus-Zeile in der ZIL-Navileiste blau bekommen, das ist quellentechnisch ganz gut zu schaffen. Auf meiner Benutzerseite in WP habe ich relativ tagesaktuell meine schon geschriebenen Artikel und meine Projekte. Dort kannst du auch nachschauen, wenn du Zeit und Lust hast. Guten Abend.

Ich komme mal wieder mit einer dieser unangenehmen Anfragen :). Ich suche gerade Material zusammen für den Artikel zum ZIL-3250. Leider ist mal wieder nur in der russischen WP ein Foto aufzutreiben. Siehe dort https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A4%D0%B0%D0%B9%D0%BB:ZIL-3250AO.JPG . Grund meiner Anfrage ist folgender: Im Prinzip ist an dem Foto nichts auszusetzen. Vor mehr als 4 Jahren hochgeladen, anstandslos in Artikeln verwendet. Aber: Der Uploader Sah68 ist seinerzeit (2009) wegen diverser Lizenzprobleme recht negativ aufgefallen (siehe Diskussionsseite), viele Bilder wurden gelöscht. Dieses ist neben ein paar anderen stehengeblieben. Es findet sich auch noch an anderer Stelle im Netz, jedoch sehe ich bisher nur eine Seite, die erstens russisch (und sich um Bildlizenzen eh nicht schert) sowie jünger als 2009 ist (2010 entstanden). Bevor ich mir die Finger verbrenne an diesem Fall frage ich lieber. Zur Entschädigung für die Arbeit gibt es inzwischen von mir fertige Artikel für den ZIS-155, den ZIS-127, den ZIS-8, den ZIS-16, den ZIL-158 sowie eine Generalüberholung des ZIL-118. Beste Grüße.

Oh, sorry. Habe deinen Eintrag gänzlich übersehen. Das hätte nicht sollen sein. Zum Foto: Du hast Recht, dass der ru-wiki-Benutzer einiges hinsichtlich Foto-upload falsch gemacht hat. Aber da ich kein admin auf ru:wiki bin, ist es mir nicht möglich zu rekonstruieren, was damals schief lief. Nichtsdestotrotz sehe ich beim Bus-Bild kein Problem. Ich konnte keine URV nachweisen. Zumal die Dateigröße, Auflösung, Aufmachung und das Vorhandensein von EXIF-Daten glaubhaft wirken, sodass ich davon ausgehe, dass es sich um sein eigens Werk handelt - wie angegeben. Macht nix. Der Bot hatte wahrscheinlich nach mir gepostet, sodass ich etwas untergegangen bin. Kommt alles noch zurecht und hilft mir sehr weiter. Ich habe es immer ungerne, Fahrzeugartikel ohne Bilder zu erstellen, deswegen kläre ich das gerne vorher. Da ich kürzlich einen MAZ-6430 vor die Linse bekommen habe wird das wohl eines der nächsten Projekte, die dich auch interessieren könnten :). Die ZIL/ZIS-Busse sind ja durch soweit nach dem -3520. But here we have a map. A map which can also come from a non-PD source, e.g. some scientific publication from Germany or from the UK (both are usually non "PD sources"). Because it is possible that this CDC-internet-source runs down in the future somebody might doubt its PD status in the future - a positive LR avoids that (very definately). Mal wieder ich...

...ich habe nämlich Mist gebaut, weil ich mich auf andere verlassen habe. Folgendes: Der gesamte Inhalt der Kat. "MAZ-5433" ist kein MAZ-5433, sondern ein MAZ-5434. Das ist ein komplett anderer LKW mit anderer Historie. Eigentlich gut daran zu erkennen, dass der MAZ-5434 Allradantrieb hat, der MAZ-5433 aber nicht. Sonst sind sie optisch recht identisch, bis auf den Auspuff. Es wäre also zu korrigieren (nach meinen zwei Uploads leider mehr Arbeit als vorher....):

1. Alle Dateien nach MAZ-5434 verschieben (gibt es noch nicht).
2. "meine" 2 Dateien umbenennen, von -5433 nach -5434
3. die alte Kat. löschen, wir haben nichts zum MAZ-5433 soweit ich das überblicke
4. die Bildbeschreibungen ändern...das kann ich auch selbst machen

Lässt sich da was machen? Ich bin gerade dabei, einen Artikel zum MAZ-5433 zu schreiben und bin deshalb auf dieses Wirrwarr gestoßen. Ein paar Beweisfotos gibt es hier, wenn auch nicht tauglich für WP oder Commons: [3]

Eine neue Kat. "MAZ-5434" habe ich noch nicht angelegt, das wäre noch zu machen. Dort sollten sich (logischer Weise) am Ende alle drei Bilder finden, die jetzt in der falschen Kategorie sind. Ja, ich weiß, schade. Das ist aber auch ein komisches Ding das. Eine leichte Nahverkehrssattelzugmaschine für 15-Tonnen-Auflieger mit lediglich russ. Motoren und einem Fünfganggetriebe. Wozu braucht man soetwas? Als Watte-Schüttgut-Transport? Ich weiß es nicht. Jedenfalls ist mir noch keine vor die Linse gekommen. Wobei das so eine Sache ist. Die Fahrerhäuser sehen alle ähnlich aus, und ich traue den hiesigen Verkehrsteilnehmern zu, dass sie einen 25-Tonnen-Standardauflieger dranhängen (wenn ich unsere Holztransporter manchmal so sehe....). Schwer zu unterscheiden also. Wie auch immer, dir eine gute Nacht, ich verschwinde jetzt. You can use this way in order to let this PD license confirm by another user. The reason is that some too much images get nominated years after upload because the source page is offline and nobody can image that this one once was created by a US governmental employee. Da hab eich ja nichts gegen, im Gegenteil. Aber Quelle ist dann ja wohl nicht eigenes Werk (von ihm), oder irre ich mich? Sollte ich das einfach korrigieren oder übergehe ich da das Protokoll? Kategorie Militärmuseum

Hallo, die vorgeschlagene neue Kategorie "Firearms..." ist untauglich. Es gibt dort nur "Firearms" (ein Artilleriegeschütz ist auch "firearm") und die Waffen rotieren zwischen zwei Museen in Full und in Reuenthal. --Bunkerfunker (talk) 10:03, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

Natürlilch kann es auf deutsch sein. Die Unterkategorien mit Full-Reuenthal betreffen jeweils beide Museen. Das eine ist in Full, das andere in Reuenthal. Firearms=Feuerwaffen ist nicht dasselbe wie Infanteriewaffen. Deletion of Wikipedia commons picture of Christine Lauterburg

Now for some reason which is not transparent to me the picture, which is authorized to be published on Wikipedia by the Swiss Photographer Francesca Pfeffer got deleted. How can I restore it to be shown again? How can I make sure it does not get deleted again? I am not a very frequent publisher of Wikipedia contributions but I did some work which I believe to be of fairly good quality about topics I think I know well enough. Is there a comprehensive description of the procedure that will let a published photograph that has the proper permission by the author undeleted. Is a verbal agreement by the autor not enough? Does the author herself has to take action? I really have no clue to where to go from now. Any kind of assistance by an more experienced volunteer is greatly appreciated.

Hmm, that's a difficult question. Mostly, such images are strictly copyrighted so that they cannot be uploaded to Commons because they are not freely available. Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 startet in Kürze

Hallo High Contrast,

in Kürze ist es wieder soweit. Der nun schon traditionelle Fotowettbewerb Wiki Loves Monuments wird im September zum vierten Mal stattfinden. In ähnlicher Form hatte unlängst der Wettbewerb "Wiki Loves Earth" eine erfolgreiche Premiere. Zu allen bisherigen vier Wettbewerben haben seit 2011 gut 3000 unterschiedliche Teilnehmer (User) ihren Beitrag geleistet. Du warst dabei, und bist auch herzlich eingeladen, am bevorstehenden WLM-Wettbewerb wieder dabei zu sein.

Allein in Deutschland wurden in den letzten drei Jahren im Rahmen von WLM rund 100.000 Fotos zu den insgesamt ca. 850.000 Kulturdenkmalen bundesweit hochgeladen. Jährlich haben sich mehrere Hundert Wiki-Fotographen daran beteiligt. Auch im kommenden Denkmalmonat wird dies gewiss wieder der Fall sein. Der Tag des offenen Denkmals am 14. September bietet bundesweit vielfältige Möglichkeiten, Denkmale nicht nur von außen, sondern auch von innen zu fotografieren. Denkmallisten sind dabei ein wichtiger Orientierungspunkt und zugleich auch Ziel der Einbindung der Fotos. Auch in diesem Jahr sind wieder neue Denkmallisten hinzugekommen, die hilfreich bei der Planung von individuellen oder Gruppen-Fototouren sind und auf eine Bebilderung warten, wie z.B. zu Görlitz oder Zittau. Unter den Landeshauptstädten fehlt nur noch Stuttgart. Aber auch hier ist Licht in Sicht.

In der Mitte Deutschlands hat die Denkmallandschaft der thüringischen Landeshauptstadt Erfurt nun das Licht der Wikipedia-Welt entdeckt. Mehr als 50 Tabellen enthalten 3.700 Denkmale. Allein die wunderschön restaurierte Altstadt umfasst 1.800 Denkmale. Eine von WMDE geförderte WLM-Fototour nach Erfurt am Wochenende vom 29. – 31. August lädt herzlich ein, diese einzigartige Kulturlandschaft zu dokumentieren. Mehr Informationen findest Du auf der Projektseite.

...by location? Deine Meinung?

Hi! Da Du an der Kategorie auch schon mal dran warst, eine Frage: diese Änderung erscheint mir nicht sinnvoll. Imho sollte Category:T-34 tanks in museums in der Hauptkategrie stehen, sonst hätte ich es nicht so eingeordnet. "by location" kann sich imo nur auf ein einzelnes Objekt bezeihen, nicht auf eine Überkategorie. D.h. ich würde Category:Chelyabinsk kolkhoznik tank monument in Category:T-34 tanks by location einordnen oder eben einzelne files, aber nicht so etwas unspezifisches. Mich würde aber interessieren, ob es dazu irgendwo eine Festlegung gibt. Kennst Du so eine? TIA, --Markscheider (talk) 12:28, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

Der WLM-Countdown hat begonnen

Hallo High Contrast,

nun ist es wieder soweit. Vom 1. bis zum 30. September findet zum fünften Mal der internationale Wettbewerb Wiki Loves Monuments statt. Im Mittelpunkt steht bekanntlich das Fotografieren von Kulturdenkmalen. Du hast an einem der letzten Fotowettbewerbe teilgenommen und wir freuen uns auf weitere Bildbeiträge von Dir.

Viele interessante Motive, nicht nur Burgen und Schlösser, sondern auch Fachwerkhäuser, Brücken und Brunnen, technische und Industriedenkmale und vieles mehr gibt es noch zu fotografieren, damit sie in der Wikipedia dokumentiert werden können. Nützliche Tipps findest du auf unserer WLM-Projektseite. Du kannst gerne individuell Fototouren durchführen oder aber Dich auch Gruppentouren anschließen. Besonders freuen wir uns auf Fotos, die Lücken in den Denkmallisten der Wikipedia ausfüllen.

Darüber hinaus kannst Du auch an der Arbeit der Jury teilnehmen, die Mitte Oktober die Fotos bewerten und die Gewinner ermitteln wird. Bis zum 15. August kannst du hier Deine Bewerbung einreichen.
