Hello![edit]

Hello! The file that you noted as a possible copyright violation is part of a work with the collaboration of the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation, so I have their permission to upload it. What actions should I do to prove it, unless there is something else wrong. Thanks.Postscriptum123 (talk) 14:48, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Also, please tell me and about the other files. Postscriptum123 (talk) 14:50, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

All right, thanks a lot! Postscriptum123 (talk) 14:56, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Moving Co. socks[edit]

Have a look at Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by VancouverMoving. This seems to be a spam service, perhaps using a bot program. The accounts all upload 2 generic moving images (people packing boxes, trucks being loaded, etc) and then, if I don't catch them first, they add descriptions with links. This is a long-term case; I dealt with the same kind of accts last year for several months, but the uploads/links/names were all related to essay-writing services for college kids. @Elcobbola: This is the 3rd one I've seen since the RFCU; I may have missed one or there may be sleepers. INeverCry 01:32, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I thought I'd tagged a few of that sort of thing - hard to see some of what is going on with only basic rights though. Other than "moving" stuff I'm left with a feeling that this approach is happening quite often. I've tagged flowers, jewellery, gift images in the past week or so - maybe something " organised". Cheers --Herby talk thyme 08:42, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There is certainly something inappropriate going on in this range (e.g., corporate-looking account names separate from this moving business). I'd emailed the CUs about it when I made the check, but haven't heard back. I'll look again for "moving" socks, but addressing the larger issue--if indeed there is one--is perhaps for someone more familiar with activity on that scale. Posters of Brave Festival[edit]

I would like to ask why you decided to delete those files from Wikimedia Commons:

File:Poster of Brave Festival 2009 "Prayers from the World".jpg File:Poster of Brave Festival 2006 "Voices of Asia".jpg File:Poster of Brave Festival 2012 "Women Initiating".jpg File:Poster of Brave Festival 2013 "Lost Rhythm".jpg File:Poster of Brave Festival 2007 "Drowned Songs".jpg File:Poster of Brave Festival 2011 "The Mask".jpg File:Poster of Brave Festival 2005 "The Magic of Voice".png

I did not download those files from Internet. I work for Brave Festival, therefore I have access to all graphic files they used during all years (posters, logos, photos and what's more - texts, archives, etc). Moreover, I wrote an article about them on Polish Wikipedia, as I was asked for that, where I just wanted to add posters for each edition of festival. Unfortunately, I didn't work out. However, I hope that this is not a final decision, cause as I mentioned above - on the behalf of Brave Festival I have a legal right to use downloaded files. I hope that we can reach an agreement in that case.

Greetings, Paulina Anna

Hi Paulina Anna, to restore these pictures we would need a written permission by the copyright holders that gets processed by our support team which can be contacted in Polish using the email address permissions-pl@wikimedia.org. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 16:17, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of SA Rugby magazine cover images[edit]

The publishers of SA Rugby magazine (Highbury Safika Media) have given me permission to use those cover images on Wikipedia, so there is no copyright violation. Please let me know if there's anything I must do to have those images restored. SimonBorchardt79 (talk) 18:43, 10 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Now that you have returned.....[edit]

Would you care to explain the CU abuse from 26/27 April 2013? The OC tried contacting you but you didn't respond, and I was told you were uncontactable.

I should make it clear that Trijnstel managed to cover the abuse up quite nicely by refusing to even tell me if CU was run. The log action had only to contact you for reason. Seriously, what gave you the right to invade my privacy by abusing the CU tool.

You owe an explanation here. russavia (talk) 15:32, 3 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I will also state, that you posted this pompous self-serving statement not long after I asked Trijnstel if a CU was run on me, and you fled Commons. Very odd and curious timing, wouldn't you say? I have logs from IRC where Trijnstel said that she knew nothing about why you ran the CU (she clearly was not telling the truth then), and then later said she the knew the reason why but would not be telling anyone. All done to protect you. So would you care to answer the following:

  1. On what basis did you abusively run a CU on my account on 26/27 April 2013?
  2. How was the running of that CU inline with policy?
  3. Why did you not see fit to notify myself or the community about the running of that CU?
  4. Why did you flee Commons like a gutless cowards when I started asking questions?
  5. What makes you think you have any right to participate in this community given the enormous breach of trust that was placed in you? If these questions aren't answered satisfactorily, I will ask that you be indefinitely blocked on this project.

You really should have stayed away from this project entirely. It is not acceptable for you to be uncontactable when your abuse is under investigation, and then think you can waltz back in and not answer for your actions. The OC and WMF Legal will now be contacted again also. russavia (talk) 18:00, 3 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Russavia: , I do not know anything about the merits of this case, but you can express yourself without personal attacks. -mattbuck (Talk) 18:53, 3 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Russavia, let me be clear for once and for all. I ignore you, your edits and your comments to avoid any further drama. I've already said enough. I'm not interested in drama; I've experienced enough last year with 5/6 people who attacked me and I want to start fresh this year. It would be nice if you could leave me alone too then. And let this be a warning. If you contact me ever again, I'll request a block for your account. I don't want anything to do with you anymore. Understood? Trijnsteltalk 19:51, 3 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Trijnstel your response is not what one would expect from a functionary on our project and is absolutely unacceptable. If you truly want to start afresh in 2015, you could start by stopping your part in the cover-up of Herbythyme's abusive use of tools on this project. I will keep pressing for answers to legitimate questions. I will also work (at some stage) on overhauling the entire CU process here on Commons to make it more transparent to the community.
Therefore, your threats are noted, and duly rejected as an obvious attempt to stifle legitimate criticism of your role in this sordid episode of CU abuse and its coverup. If this makes you uncomfortable, I sincerely suggest that you step down as a CU. russavia (talk) 21:55, 3 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

48 hours have now passed and you have not commented here. I have written to OC and WMF Legal and have asked them to re-open the case due to your sudden re-appearance on this project.

I realise that being caught abusing the tools on this project, and hence invading my privacy, is obviously something that you do not want to face. But your re-appearance has made this necessary. So in order to give you enough time to give a considered response, I will give you another 72 hours to respond. If not, I will take this to COM:AN/U and ask that you be indefinitely blocked/banned on this project. Evidence from the stewards private channel will also be publicly introduced at that time of my CU data being shared with others.

I'm sorry if it comes to that, but this is all your own doing and you need to man up and take responsibility for what you did. russavia (talk) 11:21, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ombudsman Commission findings[edit]

I have now had the conclusions from the Ombudsman Commission in the case reffered to by Russavia and I felt in appropriate to place that here so that the community and those interested can be aware of them.

In their email to me they state "our conclusion is that the Privacy Policy has not been violated". I fully accept their findings.

I feel it worth adding that as I have not used any communication channels other than on wiki posting and email in many years it is quite impossible for me to have been responsible for any mention on those channels.

I trust I will be allowed to continue to make minor contributions to Commons as and when I have the time without any further interference. I will not be online for a week or so anyway. --Herby talk thyme 15:32, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Herbythyme: Can you explain to the Commons community, myself included, then, how come that at least some parts of the CheckUser log related to @russavia was leaked to a third party (who, I am told, did not at the time, and does not at the moment, hold CheckUser privileges on this wiki) and what kind of non-public information, if any, was included in that log, and what was your role in that leak? I feel that, in addition to the findings of the Ombudsman Commission, this information is crucial in understanding the whole situation. Please take your time answering these question; there is no rush and I can wait till you get back on-line. Thank you for your time, odder (talk) 16:19, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Very very easy answer Odder - no. I have never ever disclosed any CU information to any non CU and indeed I very very rarely disclose anything to even a CU. It is a tools which must be treated with great respect for privacy. If anything has been made public it is not by me I assure you (& the community). --Herby talk thyme 16:25, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, @Herby. I understand that the Ombudsman Commission have been contacted by a non-privileged user with private information related to the CheckUser check on @russavia. Do you have any knowledge relating to that leak? Obviously, there is no need to discuss the matter publicly, so please do feel free to share it with the OC, as I think the community has the right to know which of our CheckUsers leaked such sensitive data to a third party. Thanks again for the speedy answer, and have a good day, odder (talk) 16:32, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Again (& to Odder and the whole Commons community who trusted me with rights) I have no knowledge at all about this. I would like to state that I kept no records at all of checks I made. The only place I would have possibly posted information would be to the CU list. However, for a variety of reasons, I am as sure as I can be after some two years, that I did not even do that. I certainly have no information about any leaks at all and I would be very unhappy about any such leaks. I'll state it again - this is a tool that should be treated with the greatest respect by anyone privileged to have it. --Herby talk thyme 16:38, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again, Herby, for your answers — this is very helpful. And thanks for the years of service you provided to this community; I hope to see more of you in the future, and wish you the best of experiences on Commons. Take care, odder (talk) 16:43, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Something about books I guess[edit]

About his books BS Murthy, the author would like to clarify that Benign Flame: Saga of Love, Crossing the Mirage - Passing through Youth and Jewel-less Crown are plot and character driven novels. While Prey on the Prowl is a crime novel, Glaring shadow is a stream of consciousness novel and the title reveals it all in respect of Onto the Stage - Slighted Souls and other stage and radio plays. about the other three works, they are works of nonfiction - Puppets of Faith is about the theory of communal strife, Bhagvad-Gita: treatise of self-help is a philosophical work and Sundara Kanda: Hanuman's Odyssey is a mythological work, the last two being in verse. I hope it's okay Regards, BS Murthy AuthorSpeak

File talk:New Zealand Army HX77 (8x8) tractor unit.JPG[edit]

Hello Herbythyme,

I've spoken to a very nice business development person at RMMV. He tells me that all the RMMV images are available here ( http://www.pressebox.com/presscorner/firma/rheinmetall-ag/bilder ) and that this is an accepted way for media etc. to access free-to-use images. I have not linked to this page in my uploads. If I link each image to this page, which is clearly a site for media access/downloads, would this meet Wiki rules. I think it might, as does Jan at RMMV. He will 'sign off' each image if required, but would prefer this way as it is obviously easier for all concerned. Thank you in advance for your knowledge, and taking the time to talk this through with a learner!

UndateableOne.

Hello Herbythyme, I'm learning here... I Hope this works...

I'm answering the possible copyright violation messages I received for three images I used in the recently created page for RMMV's HX truck range.

There are three images involved. This one [ https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:New_Zealand_Army_HX77_(8x8)_tractor_unit.JPG ] and two others - https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:HX81_(8x8)_HET_of_the_German_Army.jpg & https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:HX77_(8x8)_with_RMMV_MAC_protected_cabin.JPG

All three of these are media images and free to use, and can be obtained from Rheinmetall/RMMV. When I set out to create the HX page I was lacking these so I asked them (RMMV) for help. I was directed to these images as an easy download. How can I ensure these images stay used?

I suppose the easiest would be for the contact I made at RMMV to supply me with written permission, stating they are free usage media images. Would that work? I am sure they would do that.

I'm not 100% sure I'm answering the problem in the right way here, and if I am not, please help me to do so correctly.

Thanks very much.

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades...

Herbythyme, congratulations! You now have administrator rights on Commons. Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard an it subpages), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care. Have a look at the list of Gadgets (on the bottom there are the ones specifically for admins – however, for example the UserMessages are very helpful too).

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons webchat on irc.freenode.net. There is also a channel for Commons admins, which may be useful for more sensitive topics, or coordination among administrators: #wikimedia-commons-admin webchat.

You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading. You can find the admin backlog overview at COM:AB.

Please also check or add your entry to the List of administrators and the related lists by language and date it references.

Without discussion and as a seemingly kneejerk reaction, you have deleted photos I uploaded that were already in Wikimedia Commons. Then you issued a last warning without discussing or asking me personally what the deal is? Everything I uploaded had the proper licensing for modification and commercial use. I'd appreciate - and deserve - an explanation. Not just a "-1 my mistake" in an edit summary after you deleted a deletion notice on my talk page. Winkelvi (talk) 17:09, 27 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That is why I put the link in my post - COM:OTRS has the information you need. --Herby talk thyme 06:53, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, but uploading it again fails. For what I understand I have to mention with a tag that it was already published somewhere (in this case FaceBook) and then send an email to approve it could be used again? But uploading fails and says to check the deletion log. The deletion log brought me to you, so now I am in a circle ;)

Send the permission email - then it can be undeleted. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 12:14, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

So, I did. Thank you.

File:Jenmedia mclaren launch 2010 img 19.jpg and File:Jenmedia 2010 mclaren launch shot 1b.jpg[edit]

I am complimented by your remarks of "highly professional" photo. I am an artist, designer, illustrator, photographer, writer, and many other titles. These shots I took on my own personal time as I was a guest at the McLaren launch event. I am trying to locate my larger file size; my computer crashed not too long ago but I have files saved elsewhere via the web, i.e. flickr, and I also have version of one of these shots - the file is hosted at my site https://jenmedia.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/mcclaren-launch.jpg ... I am not sure if you are able to see all the others I have uploaded some of which are the same vehicle ... I appreciate your compliments - you aren't the first one to question my photography and own work here - and again, I am gathering other files to resolve. This is a little time consuming for me (again, my system crashed so I lost some files/data from the past years) ... because of this I will probably refrain from uploading anymore of my shots here as me doing a favor seems to backfire. Respectfully, Jenmedia (talk) 08:00, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am correcting my comment above to reference that you are attempting to remove two photos of mine now - both of which I have personally taken - one of these images I have on my wordpress server; I am still locating others and will update you accordingly. Jenmedia (talk) 08:04, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Also to ask if you are looking at the original file upload dims; what determines very small, please educate me so I know as one file is over 1000 x 1000 but resolution and dim options may differ and I guess you deem this too small.

Also to note my web server has another copy stored here (https://jenmedia.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/jenmedia-pretending-to-be-a-pro-photographer-for-bentley-rolls-mclaren-launch.jpg) that has a credit line / event caption / bottom right corner - I don't know if any of this is helpful; I am not as seasoned as you when it comes to this documentation here when it comes to photos - all I know is that I like to take them and provide some work for use to Wikipedia; so forgive me if I am not noting the proper terms or documenting this talk page properly; just being thorough as it's a bit insulting to me being accused of not uploading my own work (while simultaneously a compliment I suppose). Also to prove the wordpress server is mine; ref url https://jenmedia.wordpress.com/?attachment_id=3900 ... Thank you. Respectfully, Jenmedia (talk) 08:20, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This really is very very simple and it is to protect that copyright holder of the images. If you as copyright holder are happy to have us host these images then you need to confirm this via COM:OTRS and that would be great. This is done solely for the protection of the copyright holder. --Herby talk thyme 08:30, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Protection request[edit]

Hi! Can you please protect:

These are being used in a global banner. According to m:CentralNotice/Banner_guidelines#Media we shouldn't use unprotected images to avoid vandalism so I think that a protection until the end of the month would suit well to avoid such a risk. Thank you. Regards, —MarcoAurelio 14:32, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done - indef'd because it was quicker - drop me a note when it's over and I'll unprot. Best --Herby talk thyme 14:39, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Image deletion: AZy1CSba.jpg[edit]

This image, along with image "Mike-giving-back03.jpg" were my first contributions to Wikipedia commons. These two images were uploaded simultaneously and apparently were uploaded in the wrong manner. I am the copyright holder of both images. Please let me know how this deletion can be restored or how I can go about re-uploading with the appropriate copyright attributed. Thank you.

The way to license such an image can be found here Mikescala1415 - thanks --Herby talk thyme 07:37, 28 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Spam service/s[edit]

Can you take a look at Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Singaporearchitects when you have a chance? I did a mass DR for another company a few days ago that had spammy descriptions that looked just like these. I've seen several others in the past few weeks. I wonder is there a possibility of designing an abuse filter that would stop the adding of external links to descriptions? I know external links are often needed in the source/author fields, but wikilinks or plain text should suffice for descriptions right? INeverCry 08:15, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

DR done. Yes there is a real problem with spamming via images (& there has been for years) and it feels like it is getting worse. Not enough of an expert of filters tho sadly. Will look back when I have time. txs --Herby talk thyme 08:48, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There has been no violation of copyrights! It really is my job! I know the rules, so if it was somebody else's work, I would have uploaded to Russian Wikipedia, but not here.

You Submitted my photos for deletion...[edit]

Hello,

I noticed you went onto my page and submitted most all my photos for deletion. These are ALL photos that i've taken, so i'm not sure why you've nominated them. I have the ORIGINAL versions for almost all of them, so i don't know why they're nominated, when i created them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dannielle.22558bbw (talk • contribs) 03:30, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

venus figurines[edit]

many of these photos show simply figurines from the fals period (not from the paleolizhic period). the pic here called "venus of mal'ta" is completely wrong. it shows another venus (if at all). so these files must be corrected. and one has be deleted. sombody must do that. Mr. bobby (talk) 14:27, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

hi. i made a deletion request for a photo (venuus of mal'ta), that does not show what it is supposed to. an admin (?) told me, that this pic is used by others, threfore it canot be deleted. that means nobody can delete a wrong pic when others have no idea of the topic (copy and paste). what would you suggest? Mr. bobby (talk) 13:25, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I know that this user is just a vandal but isn't it a bit unfair to block him after I already warned him and he refrained from further vandalism? Perhaps I am a bit of an idealist but yesterday’s vandal could be one of our regulars today. Therefor we should treat them fair imho. Blocking after a formal warming when there are no new offences sounds a bit like a double jeopardy. Natuur12 (talk) 18:12, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It was an attack on a fellow user - something I will not tolerate when I see it. In fairness I blocked before I saw your warning based on my watchlist. I understand your point however after years of dealing with such behaviour I find it unlikely that the behaviour will change much (I can probably think of three exceptions over the year). I'm aware our views vary and it's a wiki - do as you wish. --Herby talk thyme 08:45, 13 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

File:"neutral" Social Media tags.jpg deletion[edit]

Hello Herby,

1. I haven't received any "requests from editors not to do so", I just found images on the page missing and was wondering about the reason. In that case I would expect to see at least some message notification in my Wikipedia account or e-mail. Probably you should try to improve the user interface of your site prior to blaming people. I find this attitude being absolutely unfriendly and unmotivated.

2. "neutral" Social Media tags.jpg picture is a peace of screenshot of a free browser Chromium showing a free public content of a technical web page (not an application) http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javaee/downloads/java-ee-sdk-6u3-downloads-439814.html having absolutely no visual value (practically plain text), devoted to free Java SDK6 software, processes by my own hands in Photoshop using cropping, color marking, color editing. Could you please give me any motives (your professional criteria) which allow you to blame me in "copyright violation"? Could you please indicate the person, organization or company whose rights WERE violated? Unless you think that you have right to delete ANY picture without understanding its content, just because it a priori MAY violate the copyright?

After getting the power of censorship you guys have moved too far from the initial ideals of Wikipedia, loosing the connection with reality. Be aware that reality will certainly pay you back after a while.

Thank you, Coding.wizard

Important[edit]

It will delete the pictures I upload ? How do they licensed the album cover pictures?--Mogada1972 (talk) 18:01, 19 January 2016 (UTC)Mogada[reply]

You have been told several times before that you cannot upload any album covers at Commons. Only the original designer or sometimes the record company can grant a free license for such images. If you scanned the cover image or copied it from a website it is not your own work and you're not allowed to upload it. De728631 (talk) 22:01, 19 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Herby: This just made we wonder if something fishy is going on here. De728631 (talk) 22:10, 19 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

Hey! You've erased images that were supposed to "rights violations". These images have the correct license, is not fair.--SuZumiya (talk) 00:48, 11 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

To clarify, the source has a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license, but they do not own the images. For example, http://brise-lapin.tistory.com/1212 says "credits included in photo" and the images are watermarked by the actual photographers. There is no evidence of permission from them.
