Two Deleted Photos

File:Jon Carin - Orange.jpg and File:Jon Carin - Roger Waters Us & Them Tour.jpg have been deleted: I edit Wiki items in the Pink Floyd space and I think I added the Orange file to his article. These pictures are from the artist, I'm quite sure his own wife took them. How can we restore them for public use? I ask because I think his wife donated them so I'm not sure what she may have overlooked doing. I would certainly put the time in to help the owner of this photography resubmit it correctly. --1987atomheartbrother (talk) 23:12, 26 November 2021 (UTC)

@1987atomheartbrother: Hi. The photos mention that they are directly from the photographer. The person who takes the photos owns the copyright and they need to give Commons permission to host the files. Take a look at COM:L. Ask them to send permission via COM:OTRS Gbawden (talk) 08:43, 27 November 2021 (UTC)

From My Recent Deletion Requests

Hey there, thank you for reviewing my deletion request concerning the file Turtle Back Zoo Railroad July 2020.jpg. After reviewing the file more closely,. I now agree that it's actually good enough to stay on Wikipedia. My reason may have not been the best, but the main reason is because it was a screenshot from a YouTube video (which I also own): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNz7OAjaMSw

I have also nominated three other files for deletion, which I will list below. All but one are also screenshots from YouTube. If you have time, I would also appreciate your feedback so we can figure out whether or not these should be deleted.

Jenkinson's Boardwalk Train 06-28-2019.jpg: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StbdwxRuhfA

Jenkinson's Boardwalk Train 08-2-2019.jpg: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9PejD7ZJGY

NYC Subway Holiday Train.jpg: No source but it's a really poor depiction.

Davidng913 (talk) 20:36, 5 December 2021 (UTC)

@Davidng913: Hi. The first problem is that the video license is not Creative Commons at the moment. You would need to change that if you use the youtube video as a source - we check the source license to verify the cc claim. Secondly, using the whole video on commons would be a problem as the music you added is not free. However this wouldn't be a problem if you just use stills. Gbawden (talk) 06:23, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
@Gbawden: Thank you. At this point, I'll probably have all three files deleted since again they are screenshots from videos without a Creative Commons license, and I have no intention on changing the video license. I may as well renominate the Turtle Back Zoo Railroad file for deletion for the same reason, as I unfortunately cannot find a better resolution. Davidng913 (talk) 22:39, 6 December 2021 (UTC)

Hi: my understanding is the photographer has submitted an email to the link provided in the note warning that the file will be deleted without proof of their consent.--1987atomheartbrother (talk) 18:43, 6 December 2021 (UTC)

Hello. Sorry to bother you. I noticed that you are an administrator. Please help me. There are photos I took and uploaded with the permission of the copyright owner. Evidence of the license is published on the official website of the original author(license page). I also provided a link to the license page when I uploaded. Despite that situation, a deletion has been proposed. If there is no problem, I would like you to kept. Please point out any problems. I'm sorry to cause you trouble.--SetoMonamer (talk) 08:01, 8 December 2021 (UTC)

@SetoMonamer: The issue here is whether the CC license also covers the characters in the picture. I think it should be OK but I would let another admin review it Gbawden (talk) 08:05, 8 December 2021 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

LassiNummi1967.jpg

We went over this the last time, but now you're at it again. Only a few months ago, I told you this: "You demanded more evidence for the inclusion of this image in the Commons. This use is within the CC BY 4.0 license of this image. You could have seen the evidence for yourself if you had visited the link given below the image. Please retract your error. In the future, please try to show the minimum amount of care before wasting other users' time with nonsense like this." Remember? Read it a few times more until it sticks. --Inehmo (talk) 10:21, 17 January 2022 (UTC)

Your nomination for deletion of the 2 images of myself on wikipedia page referring to me

Both images are of me. The left-most (dated a shown in photo) by Professor Peter Ratoff of ad Lancaster University, England who gave his permission permission to me to distribute and use it, releasing his copyright to me. The right-most (dated as shown in title attached to photo) was taken by a friend at my request on my camera, and I own the copyright.

File:At the End It's You Lucifer.pdf

Hello. Thought I let you know that Commons:Deletion requests/File:At the End It's You Lucifer.pdf was closed by you as delete but the file is still active at File:At the End It's You Lucifer.pdf. No worries if the picture didn't get deleted due to a script error. Thanks! :) --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 04:35, 30 January 2022 (UTC)

Hi. I just noticed Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Emily Khine, and I'm quite positive there was consensus to delete. It should also be clearer now since the current version of the image (uploaded September 2020) has Exif info stating, "Copyright (C) James Mackay / enigmaimages.net". --Paul_012 (talk) 16:47, 10 February 2022 (UTC)

@Paul 012: Hi. This was kept as it was supposedly a VOA work but as you point out the new version makes it clear that this is not the case. I have nominated the files for deletion Gbawden (talk) 06:29, 11 February 2022 (UTC)

NARA TIF files

Bonjour,

I mostly follow the directions of admins on the Commons regarding my categorization of files. I received the following message on my talk page from Pi.1415926535 some months ago:

"Just an FYI re your categorization of this file: for files from NARA that have identical JPG (for article use) and TIF (lossless version for editing), only the JPG needs to be categorized. (See Category:NARA TIF images with categorized JPGs)."

Since then I have been following this advice and as I go through categories I am understanding the reason behind this view. Krok6kola (talk) 12:18, 15 February 2022 (UTC)

@Krok6kola: Thanks for that. I have always thought that both had to be in the same category to make it easier to find them.
@Pi.1415926535: Hi Pi. Can you give me some guidance on how to categorise these TIFF's then? TIA Gbawden (talk) 12:20, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
You can see both versions if you look towards the bottom of the .jpg file. e.g. File:INTERIOR OF AN AMTRAK DOME PASSENGER CAR HAS BEEN STRIPPED AT A PLANT IN MIRA LOMA, CALIFORNIA, NEAR RIVERSIDE. IT IS... - NARA - 555956.jpg (I know from experience Pi.1415926535 is very busy and does not answer me at least). Krok6kola (talk) 15:06, 15 February 2022 (UTC)

Re: Human Erected Penis.jpg

This file is clearly blurry and badly lit, and there’s a ton of better images of penises on commons. I’d like if you withdrew your premature “keep” close and let the debate run out normally since this isn’t a clear case of COM:PORN like the exhibitionism spam. File:Lil Loaded.png

Hey, I saw that you deleted the image File:Lil Loaded.png because it was a "Personal photo by non-contributors (F10)". I think I'm the one who uploaded from there, as it was from this video and was a creative commons license (see my edit). Yet, I never got any notification of deletion and it doesn't seem like it wasn't useful (as it would be used in his article). Did something happen to the image that caused it to be deleted? --Reppop (talk) 23:45, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

@Reppop: That was an oversight on my part. I have undeleted it Gbawden (talk) 09:08, 27 February 2022 (UTC)

User photo, student from Russian Wikiversity

Experience and perspectives of PetrSU students in Wikipedia, Wikiversity and Wikidata. My report at Wikimania 2021.

Hello. You deleted the file File:Marina Frolova.png with the comment: "Personal photo by non-contributors (F10)".

I am teacher from Russian Wikiversity, see my video at Wikimedia conference (video above). Marina Frolova was my student, she made contribution in Russian Wikiversity, see link.

She uploaded her photo to Commons upon my request to all my students at Wikiversity.

Please, could you restore her photo? --Andrew Krizhanovsky (talk) 07:48, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

Deleted talk pages

Hi, are these file-talk pages deleted by mistake? These talk pages do not seem to need to be deleted because the corresponding file pages are not deleted. I believe this was a result of Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Uploads by Matlin/temp (8 January 2022).

whym (talk) 10:53, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

@Whym: Hi. I think there was an issue with the mass delete tool that day. I marked the ones to be kept as kept then used the mass process tool to delete the rest - except the mass delete tool deleted everything so I had to restore these and didn't restore the talk pages. Gbawden (talk) 13:14, 21 April 2022 (UTC)
Should these talk pages exist and have the "kept" template, then? It's not a huge issue, either way, though. whym (talk) 23:04, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

FoP in Switzerland

Hi Gbawden; I think that your decision here was made in error, i.e. Verbcatcher possibly didn't read COM:FOP Switzerland fully when adding their "keep" vote, as freedom of panorama in Switzerland generally doesn't apply to works in interior spaces. To quote from COM:FOP Switzerland: "Following the majority view in the legal literature, freedom of panorama does not apply to interior spaces" (with lots of references in the footnote). So, I would appreciate it if you could revise your decision, the case actually seems pretty clear to me (modern work of art in an interior space in Switzerland, therefore no freedom of panorama). For transparency, I was made aware of this case through a question in German Wikipedia's copyright discussion forum by Goesseln, here. Gestumblindi (talk) 19:00, 28 April 2022 (UTC)

@Gestumblindi: Hi. I read the FOP and missed the interior requirement. Thanks for pointing out my error- I have fixed it Gbawden (talk) 19:13, 28 April 2022 (UTC)

I see you deleted two images at Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Kilaruness for lacking VRT. The thing is, the user is claiming to be the photographer. Therefore, once a single VRT is accepted confirming the photographer's identity, no further VRTs are necessary. We are convinced that the user is the same person as Meher Kilaru on social media, so uploading the images to Commons is the free license release; no further VRT release is necessary. -- King of ♥ 01:34, 4 May 2022 (UTC)

You may note that the reverse is the one depicted in this file.  Mysterymanblue  02:37, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Sarah Godlewski (OST).jpg and Commons:Deletion requests/File:Jill Underly (DPI).jpg

Dear Gbawden,

Why did you delete two files that are in the public domain? In Wisconsin, it is up to each state agency to decide whether documents and media created by it are in the public domain. For example, both the Wisconsin Office of the State Treasurer and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction have a policy of all their works being in the public domain per subchapter II of chapter 19, Wis. Stats., and written confirmation from the respective state agencies. On the other hand, the Wisconsin Department of Revenue - which you used as an example - indeed does enforce copyright on its works. Besides that, the photos that I uploaded to the Commons were originally from the Wisconsin Blue Book, which is an annual directory and guide of state government in Wisconsin. The Blue Book has always been in the public domain ever since Wisconsin joined the Union in 1848. With that being said, can you please undelete the files when you have the time? Please advise at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely, Mcvayn 17:42, 10 May 2022

@Mcvayn: I see no mention of the Blue book in the source? I also cannot find any evidence of a license on the source site. You can request undeletion at COM:UDR and if WI is indeed PD we must update en:Copyright status of works by subnational governments of the United States Gbawden (talk) 06:31, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of images in category freelancers

You mass speedy deleted images in the category Freelancers. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/Files_in_Category:Freelancers They were in use on Wikipages, and had the right license. If you believe some of them don't belong to Commons, you could nominate them one by one and start a discussion, but speedy deletion should not be used. Could you please undo this? --Hannolans (talk) 05:33, 4 June 2022 (UTC)

Hello,

I am messaging you because a contest for a sound logo for Wikimedia is being developed and your opinion as a Wikimedia Commons admin is appreciated. My team would like to know if it is possible for the top finalist sound logos in the contest to have attribution temporarily hidden from public view until all the votes are final? The idea is to let the public judge the sound logo contestants based on the merit of the logo, not the person or people who made it. Again, any feedback is appreciated.

Thank you,

@Ikan Kekek: scope - as I said it was a weak delete Gbawden (talk) 07:32, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
Question I can't see what would be wrong with the scope. Please explain. Photographs of people are obviously on topic for various wikis. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:49, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
I'll look forward to your clarification, because I'm considering nominating this file for undeletion, purely on the basis that "people of x" is a totally on-topic scope, but I feel a little dopey because I haven't seen the photo. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:13, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

Delete of my cards

What are you doing dude? You delete my cards, about busroutes. in some cities in Denmark? In the danish LAW. its ALLOWED to take a picture by already shared art and pictures. Go to read our danish law. https://www.retsinformation.dk/eli/lta/2014/1144 § 24 Stk 2. I am allowed to take the pictures in the public around in Denmark and upload them here. because of the pictures is taken by me. IN a public forum. because of the authors. already had set them to a bus stop in the public forum. - Cheers User:Erobran

@Erobran: There is no disputing that they are your photos but per COM:FOP Denmark they cannot be used for commercial purposes, which is against Commons policies, even if they met the requirement to be Permanent - which I am not sure those were. Gbawden (talk) 09:16, 31 August 2022 (UTC)
I have gone through the rules for Denmark, and I can't immediately see which rule they break there? They are both permanent. rather it is "internet" websites with the maps that have been uploaded. Thereby they should not break any rules?.. Erobran (talk) 10:28, 31 August 2022 (UTC)
"Works of art may be reproduced in pictorial form and then made available to the public if they are permanently situated in a public place or road. The provision of the first sentence shall not apply if the work of art is the chief motif and its reproduction is used for commercial purposes."[1144/2014 Art.24(2)]"
The maps you photographed can loosely be called works of art. Read the bold sections. Commons requires that all works are licensed for commercial purposes. This section of the law states that it may not and thus we cannot keep it. If you disagree with my assessment you may request undeletion at COM:UDR Gbawden (talk) 14:21, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

Hey, i just received an email, that you deleted tge image I myself created and uploaded. I credited everything, yet it seems like wikipedia staff is trolling me in this manner. JakubD47 (talk) 12:15, 2 September 2022 (UTC)

@JakubD47: The issue was that the cover you photographed was copyrighted. You can't just photograph someone else's work Gbawden (talk) 06:32, 5 September 2022 (UTC)

Once more, the photography of the guys was shot by my friend, who's written consent I have, then I made the edits, by finding royalty free images, that can be CC0 sublicensed, compiled them together and published it on the album cover for the band. Then I used that image in the wiki page, which uploaded it to commons. I had to idea I have to previously clear any images uploaded to wikipedia with their staff. Or I don't still understand what the problem is? JakubD47 (talk) 10:00, 5 September 2022 (UTC)

@JakubD47: My bad. I didn't check the photo before replying to you. The issue is that the photo is out of scope. I have started a deletion request Gbawden (talk) 10:04, 5 September 2022 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Downing Street, Earth Hour 2021.jpg

Hello. Asking for a clarification of this closure before I check and probably batch-nominate 87 other files.

You closed Commons:Deletion requests/File:Downing Street, Earth Hour 2021.jpg, deleting an image from the @10downingstreet Twitter - was that deleted "due to Crown copyright" in Xasley's comment, or due to the IP's reasoning that in this (unusual?) case of the Twitter image being OGL and the same image being on Flickr as NC-ND, the Flickr licence must take precedence?

If it was the former, does that mean all other 87 images taken from @10downingstreet Twitter should be deleted? If it was the latter, should we delete any which also appear on Flickr? Lord Belbury (talk) 18:13, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

@Lord Belbury: Hi. I couldn't find confirmation that this twitter account falls under OGL and there was enough doubt that I felt that it should be deleted under PCP. If you think I made a mistake please let me know Gbawden (talk) 08:31, 6 September 2022 (UTC)

Deletion Request/Copyrighted images

File name (image): Dambuhalang_titi_ng_Negro_na_hindi_tuli_at_lubasan_naka_tayo.jpg ‎(316 × 316 pixels, file size: 31 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

In my defense, the image was not uploaded contradicting to copyright due to the file was of my own works for educational and health purposes. But, the image was taken from the internet from a personal reliable source which some of my works are contributed to. However, some viewers or users may find the image displays an inappropriate file which undoubtedly does contain a graphic image or a file uncommonly portrayed and used. Therefore, I will accept the deletion request if the file is partly reported stated above.

If the file is requested through its file name, then I will simply rename the file. However, my conclusion of the file is not copyrighted or taken from other sources according to any whatsoever degree of illegal licensing.

Deletion Request/Copyrighted images

This discussion is regarding a deletion request reportedly been uploaded through copyright.

File name (image): Dambuhalang_titi_ng_Negro_na_hindi_tuli_at_lubasan_naka_tayo.jpg ‎(316 × 316 pixels, file size: 31 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

I would like a viable reason for the deletion request. However if it is a copyright file, I would like a strong copy of the reported copyright file or link but greatly want the returned for educational purposes of the matter not mainly because of its graphic content to the eyes of certain viewers.

I WOULD STRONGLY WANT A FEEDBACK.

Dear Gbawden,

The photos sources are come from HKJC.com, basically I am on behalf of HKJC to upload those visuals to wikipedia under free license. About this issue, I have already send a email to one of wikipedia representative, he named Chris Brown. And he will help to made the necessary adjustments to all the files. File:Escarlata Gutiérrez.jpg

Hello @Gbawden. I discovered recently that the file Escarlata Gutiérrez.jpg was deleted and I would like to understand the reason. As far as I know, the image wasa photo of Escarlata Gutiérrez, a relevant Spanish fiscal. The photo was taken by Escarlata herself with her own camera (so she owns the rights) and then uploaded to Commons also by herself. Everything seems ok so, for some months, the image was link to her Wikidata item and Wikipedia article. It was a surprised to learn that it was deleted, so I would like to understand the reason, if you could kindly explain it to me I would appreciate it very much. I asked also to Fitindia a week ago, but he was not able to answer me yet, so maybe you could help me. Thanks in advance. Zapipedia (talk) 19:01, 22 November 2022 (UTC)

File:Milton Diamond.jpg

I do not understand why you want to delete this photo on the basis of "Flickrwashing". It is a photo which I took, and added to the article twelve years ago with the help of another Wikipedian, because it is the only photo I have ever uploaded. It looks as though, unbeknownst to me, the procedure involved him/her creating a Flickr account in my name in order to transfer the photo to Wikipedia. I have no access to that Flickr account, not knowing the login details, and the person who helped me all those years ago now appears to be somebody totally different under the same name, who only appeared in Wikipedia a year ago! I have entered all my explanations at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Milton_Diamond.jpg, but had no response from you. Another Wikipedian has been very helpful in directing me to COM:VRT, where I have done my best to follow the instructions and send off the appropriate e-mail from the template there; but it also says that I should "place the following code on image pages after sending an email to the Volunteer Response Team (formerly OTRS):" and gives a code { { subst:PP } } (if I didn't put the spaces in there it creates a vast amount of text right here!) - and I have absolutely no idea how one is supposed to do that. So I am begging you not to delete my photograph until there has been time and opportunity to find out how this tag is supposed to be entered; it is never easy to find out how to do something for the very first time! Thank you for your forbearance. Molly Romanov (talk) 17:37, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi @Molly Romanov: I see that permission has been accepted for the photo so you don't need to worry about it being deleted. Flickrwashing is a form of license laundering - unscrupulous editors upload a file to flickr and share it under Creative commons so that it can be copied to Commons. This is what happened here when someone impersonated you. Thankfully this has now been resolved Gbawden (talk) 08:26, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
Nobody impersonated me - I thought I had explained that. Twelve years ago some very kind person assisted me in the mysterious process of adding a photo, which I myself took, to a Wikipedia article in which I had a particular interest, as I was the person who wrote and maintained the academic web site belonging to the subject of the article. But I am very grateful to the powers that be at COM:VRT for responding quickly to my appeal for help, before the photo was actually deleted. Molly Romanov (talk) 08:41, 24 November 2022 (UTC)

bad judgement, or bad explantation, or accidentially speedy-deleted, or do I overlook something?

all Wikipedia-logos on Commons have missing author information, please delete all or none of them, but not some

Hi I just noticed you speedy-deleted a screenshot with the argumentation "Screenshot of non-free content (F3)". the only problematic content I can find on the screenshot is that File:Wikipedia-logo-v2-no-text.svg under {{Cc-by-sa-3.0}} has missing author information. (My understanding for CC-BY is that is is enough to name the copyright-holder "Wikimedia Foundation", but not the author.) And except from the tilte of the page nothing of the content is shown (I'm the only author of the title, I don't have to cite myself, and the name of the title is anyhow below TOO.). No browser shown, no addon modifying the page.

  1. If you see an issue in not naming the authors of the Wikipedia-Logo please suggest all images in Category:SVG Wikipedia logos, v2 for deletion. (Do not speedy-delete them!)
  2. If you see an issue not naming the developers of Wikipedia-software, please correct it on en:Wikipedia:Screenshots of Wikipedia#Prepare the license template. (Do not speedy-delete such images.)
  3. If you choose the wrong explantation for SD, please explain it according to Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion.
  4. If you accidentially speedy-deleted the image, please undelete it on your own, and consider a deletion-request (e.g. out of scope).
