Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

File copyright status[edit]
Welcome to Wikimedia Commons. While everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the project, one or more of your file uploads had missing or false information regarding its source and copyright status. Please note that Wikimedia Commons takes copyright rules and infringement very seriously. Files may only be uploaded and included if their copyright status meets the conditions stated in our licensing policy, and if their provenance is clearly documented. Files that fail to meet those conditions may be deleted, and users who fail to meet them may be blocked. Please follow our first steps, if you haven't already. If you have questions, feel free to ask at the Village Pump copyright question page or on my talk page. Thank you. Please stop uploading photos you find via Google. They are copyrighted and cannot be hosted on Commons--Gbawden (talk) 08:22, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
Now may I ask how they are “copywritten images” if I have permission DIRECTLY from the artist herself to post them. These images are hers, taken by her or someone in her family, and posted BY HER. I believe that these are false claims being sent at me. Not fair to be removed when I have been given permission from the artist. Since your profile clearly states you “try to add missing images where you can” than go ahead and add images to my “Naomi Bristow” page that you falsely declined about 5 times for things that weren’t true after a while and get back to me on the “copyright” situation as you wouldn’t have the permission from the artist herself. Good day sir... GavinoGavv 22:25, 9 October, 2019
Not sure if you got my message above Mr. Gbawden. GavinoGavv (talk) 15:58, 12 October 2019 (UTC) Hi. The artist needs to give permission for these images to be hosted on commons via the COM:OTRS process. The artist owns the copyright and needs to give permission hence the copyright violation. You cannot give permission for images that you have not taken yourself. Gbawden (talk) 19:25, 13 October 2019 (UTC)
Huh? The artist has given me permission to post these images to my page about her. I don’t understand your “you cant give permission to yourself.” I know that! She gave me permission to post these images to the Wikimedia Commons. You are driving me mental! You always ALWAYS decline EVERYTHING I post to Wikipedia when you don’t have a proper reason to deny. I’m getting sick of this. I’m not going through a whole damn process of trying to “reinstate my images” through that freaking link, you’re gonna repost them for me. Have fun @gbawden :).
