First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki—it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], which produces: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper

  • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: {{bad name|correct name}}

Försvarsmakten vapen.svg[edit]

Hi. Your edits to Försvarsmakten vapen.svg have been reverted. Making the current CoA look more like the official interpretation of it is not desireable since that interpreation is copyrighted. /Lokal_Profil 14:39, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. But if the objective is not to make it look like the 'real' CoA, then I cannot see why you would call it 'Försvarsmaktens vapen'. Citing your license: " Even if the design is free to use (per the license), it is not permitted to use in such a way that implies it is being supported by the municipality or county" Do you feel I am making those implications?
It boils down to the difference between the en:blason which is free from copyright (but has some usage restrictions as mentioned) and is the official coat of arms of försvarsmakten, and the "official interpretation" of the blasoning which is the one that appears on their homepage. Only the blason is truly official and thus any heraldicly correct interpratation of it is allowed. Ok, you seem to be a lot more into this than me, so I'll apologize for messing up your coat of arms. I just want to know one thing; Varför pratar vi engelska när vi båda är svenskar? :)
Vana? Hur som helst. Angående bilden nedan. Om det är MUK som äger bilden så måste du få skriftligt tillstånd från dem på att vem som helst (även utanför wikipedia) får använda bilden till vad som helst (även kommersiella ändamål). Undantaget givetvis det automatiska skyddet via {{Insignia-Sweden}}. Du kan även be dem ange en specifik licens. När detta är gjort så märk bilden med licensen, vidarbefodra mailet till permissions-commons@wikimedia.org samt lägg även till {{OTRS pending}} på sidan.
