Request for Michigan House of Representatives 2018 election Map! — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 73.191.143.160 (talk) 21:47, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ontario Election 2018[edit]

Your election maps are very good, but I don't understand why you've left blank spots for the ridings you've shown detail maps, instead of including all ridings in the main map for a visual party/vote strength map. Even if it was scalable you could still do detail map insets.

I'm curious as to why you chose to feature the map insets you have. For instance, Kitchener-Waterloo isn't a riding anymore, so it's confusing to have the ridings of Waterloo (largely the former Kitchener-Waterloo riding), Kitchener Centre and (the new) Kitchener South-Hespeler in a breakout map called Kitchener-Waterloo, especially as there is another Kitchener Riding (Kitchener-Conestoga). It would be more useful for folks in these parts to bundle all 5 Waterloo Region risings into a detail map. Likewise, I'm not sure why you bundled Oakville and Burlington with Hamilton. As the Hamilton ridings are more densely populated and smaller it seems to me it's only really Hamilton that needs a detail map (unless you were going with regional detail maps).

The reason I was referencing your fine election map today was to see which ridings were represented by which party because of ongoing the Toronto municipal riding dilemma. But that is hard to see even on the detail map because the GTA is lumped together with Toronto. I do appreciate the election is over and done with, so I'm not expecting you to make any changes at this point, but I thought you might appreciate the feedback for future elections. And thanks, too, for the work you have put in on this project.

Thank You and Request for Advice[edit]

Hello! I just wanted to thank you for the amazing 2015 Canadian election riding map! It looks spectacular. I also wanted to ask you which programs you used and how you were able to make such a map. I would like to make similar maps such as this one. Your advice would be much appreciated. Thank you very much, and have a nice day! --Spaceshuttlediscovery (talk) 07:38, 27 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, thank you so very much! I am somewhat busy with school at the moment, but when I get the chance, I will try to put your advice into practice. Thank you so very very much for your detailed advice! All the best! Spaceshuttlediscovery (talk) 08:25, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I finally decided to try my hand at mapmaking. I made a map for the 2009 British Columbia general election. I used GIMP. It can be found here: http://imgur.com/l3Ex3Ba . I can't manage to convert it back to svg, however. Could you please help me? Thank you very much, and have a nice day! Spaceshuttlediscovery (talk) 00:16, 27 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A little help?[edit]

Hello there! I want to first begin by saying what an incredible job you did on your Canada Election 2015 Results Map. These are the kind of maps I live for! So much so, that I was inspired to color in your map to show the Liberal Party's strength in the election. I've got the coloring down, but I was wondering if you could add extra numbers for the extra shades I used at the end of the color key. Thanks! --Mr.Election (talk) 00:15, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much! --Mr.Election (talk) 18:05, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'll be happy to do so. I'll have the NDP map ready soon. --Mr.Election (talk) 19:10, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Something along the lines of "Canadian federal election, 2015 party strength maps". --Mr.Election (talk) 19:10, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for not uploading the NDP map. I've been really busy with school work, but I'll try and have it up by the beginning of next week. --Mr.Election (talk) 03:39, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for understanding. Nice maps of Australia by the way! --Mr.Election (talk) 15:09, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm currently putting the finishing touches on the NDP map (all I have to do is color in Greater Toronto-Hamilton), so keep an eye out for my upload. I would just like to let you know that on your map, Brampton North and Brampton Centre are one riding instead of two. --Mr.Election (talk) 00:50, 2 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for making the fix. I'd just like to let you know that I've added another shade to the map to represent "Less than 10%". The Green Party map looked too bland, so I thought I'd add the extra color. I'll go ahead and add this to the other maps. --Mr.Election (talk) 20:34, 2 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've finished adding the extra shades to all the maps. Could you add the extra color label? Thanks! --Mr.Election (talk) 23:31, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, man. You're great! --Mr.Election (talk) 00:40, 4 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

By-election map[edit]

Hey friend! I was just wondering if you could do me a favor. I've recently made two maps for the w:By-elections to the 42nd Canadian Parliament article:

By-elections to the 42nd Canadian Parliament results by province

By-elections to the 42nd Canadian Parliament results by riding

Could you change "Gilles Ducceppe" to "Martine Ouelett" and "Stephen Harper" to "Rona Ambrose" on both maps? Thank you!

Thank you for helping me! I think that the font you used is superior anyways. --Mr.Election (talk) 20:48, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Email[edit]

Hi DrRandomFactor, I'm not aware of any emails which I sent. Maybe it was auto-sent by Wikipedia when I sent I sent the "thanks" for your map change? As an aside, I have also uploaded a Final Round result for the CPC leadership based on your map to wikimedia, under file name "CPCLdrFinalRound.png". Ireland election 2016[edit]

Hello DrRandomFactor,

You uploaded this map of the Irish election in 2016. Everything is right, but the number of seats Social Democrats won is wrong. Instead of 2, that party won 3 seats (in the map is correct, there are three purple dots in the east of the country). This additional seat comes from Fianna Fáil; according to some references they won 44 seats instead of 45. I have checked the election results here: https://www.rte.ie/news/election-2016/ https://www.irishtimes.com/election-2016/results-hub, and also in en:Irish general election, 2016.

One of the three Social Democrats candidates elected (en:Stephen Donnelly) left this party and joined Fianna Fáil, but that happened some months after the elections.

Also, if you count the dots you will realise that there are 49 from Fine Gael and 45 from Fianna Fáil. As I have said, the Fianna Fáil has 44 seats, so one of the dots in the map belongs to Fine Gael. The error is in this constituency: Dún Laoghaire. Three seats belong to Fine Gael and one to AAA–PBP. You can check it in the previous link or here: https://www.rte.ie/news/election-2016/constituencies/dun-laoghaire/ and https://www.irishtimes.com/election-2016/dun-laoghaire.

In summary, as fas as I'm concerned, in the elections Social Democrats won 3 seats instead of 2, and Fianna Fáil 44, not 45, and the Fianna Fáil dot in Dún Laoghaire belongs to Fine Gael.

Thanks for your attention. Your maps are excellents, good job. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 90.174.4.36 (talk) 14:31, 12 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, if it doesn't take up too much time, was wondering if I could make a request. For the 2016 Irish Election map was wondering if the counties could be shaded in order to show the strongest party (in terms of vote share) in each region of the country, as has been done for the en:Northern Ireland Assembly election, 2017 and scottish council elections en:South Ayrshire Council election, 2017? 2017 Georgia's 6th congressional district special election request[edit]

Earlier this year, there was a special election in Georgia's 6th congressional district, which consists of only portions of three counties, Cobb, Fulton, and DeKalb. Due to the small size of the district, The New York Times' map breaks the vote down into precincts rather than at the county level. However, there is a map lower on the page which does show boundaries for these counties (with the title Estimated Votes Remaining) as well as there being a table which has the total number of votes each candidate got in the counties listed. Taking this data, I found the percentages. Republican Karen Handel won Cobb County with 45,625 votes and 58.15% as well as Fulton County with 64,900 votes and 52.72%. Democrat Jon Ossoff won DeKalb County with 33,847 votes and 58.44%. This is just some information I thought you may need to be aware of. Here is the map for Georgia's 6th: nytimes.com/elections/results/georgia-congressional-runoff-ossoff-handel. Count Awesome (talk) 23:43, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

NZ Maps[edit]

I really do like your NZ maps that you have uploaded for 2014 and 2017, showing especially the winning margin for each party and being standardized with all your other maps. Thank you. However I have a few comments from a New Zealand point of view. The phrase "constituency" is rarely if ever used in NZ, rather "electorate" is the preferred term. "Additional Member Seat" is a phrase completely unknown here, rather we say "List Seats". Also Palmerston North is the actual name of the entire town in the lower North island, not just Palmerston. --122.62.139.2 22:20, 15 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Reply - Thank you for your feedback on the maps! The errors have been fixed and the new maps re-uploaded!

Sorry, I just noticed now that the Labour electorate seats won is wrong. It is 29, not 20. Thank you for the other corrections.

Fonts in your maps[edit]

Hello Mr.Randomfactor. I know you're probably sick of hearing from me all the time, but I was wondering about what font you use in your maps. I've made a couple on my own using your format and/or shapes, some whereas I've needed to add my own text. However, because I don't know the font you used, it always ends up looking a bit... off. So I was wondering (as you probably have guessed), what font do you use in your maps?

Thanks! Shin Jun Bak

REPLY - No don’t worry Im not sick of hearing from you, I always like talking to people on here and answering their questions! The answer - Arial. Thats it. Nothing fancy. Arial. I use a bolded version of it for Party Strength Charts, regular Arial for inset names, and italics Arial for information atop the Party Strength Charts. I use Arial cause its simple and every computer in the world has it.

This is a wonderful map and it's provided the base for a bunch of other useful maps, like File:Australian marriage survey, divisions.svg. I wonder if you'd be willing to consider some feedback to move some of the Brisbane electorates around. By any understanding of people who live here, the divisions of Lilley, Brisbane, and possibly Ryan would be considered "North Brisbane", not "South Brisbane" as shown here. Electorates north of Petrie such as Longman, Fisher, and Fairfax are well outside the Brisbane area and would probably be better characterised as part of the separate urban area of en:Sunshine Coast, Queensland. On the southern side of town, the divisions of Forde, Fadden, Moncrieff and McPherson are not Brisbane, and cover the separate city of en:Gold Coast, Queensland.

There's no hurry on this of course, but if you're looking to revise the file to deal with updated electoral boundaries, it may be useful to put those changes in at the same time. I wonder if you could update the colours in File:Senate of Canada - Seating Plan (41st Parliament).svg that you created? There seem to be three shades of grey in the image, although it could be my monitor. 2018 Pennsylvania's 18th Congressional district special election map request[edit]

Hi DrRandomFactor! Do you think you would be able to make a map for the special election in Pennsylvania's 18th congressional district where it shows the results by county such as this one in Utah's 3rd from a special election last November? The New York Times has provided a map for the results of the district: nytimes.com/interactive/2018/03/13/us/elections/results-pennsylvania-house-special-election.html

There are four counties in the district, and while the map provided by The New York Times divides them into precincts, the boundaries for the counties are still very distinct. The results too are for the most part accurate, and I have updated the results on the special election page with information provided by the Pennsylvania Department of State. The Democrat Conor Lamb won the district with 49.86% of the vote to the Republican Rick Saccone, who won 49.54% of the vote. Lamb won Allegheny County with 57.27%, while Saccone won Greene County with 57.59%, Washington County with 53.14%, and Westmoreland County with 57.00% of the vote. If you could make this map, I would really appreciate it. Thanks! Count Awesome (talk) 00:11, 22 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

United States House of Representatives elections in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia, 2018 results by district[edit]

Hi Dr.RandomFactor! I was wondering if you would be willing to take a couple of map requests. I really like this style you used for this map of Colorado in 2016, and I am hoping you can duplicate it here. Would you be able to make maps for the results of the 2018 US House of Representatives in the states of North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia?

In North Carolina, the Republican Party won 9 seats with 50.39% of the vote, while the the Democratic Party won 3 seats with 48.35%. However, the Republicans led in the race for a tenth seat, in the 9th Congressional District, narrowly with 49.25%. The race was marred with controversy, with the state board of elections refusing to certify the result, sending it to a redo next month.

The election results in Tennessee and Virginia are much more straightforward. In Tennessee, the Republicans won 7 seats with 59.25% of the vote, while the Democrats won 2 seats with 39.19%. In Virginia, the Democrats won 7 seats with 56.36%, while the Republicans won 4 seats with 42.52%.

If you could make these maps, it would really be appreciated! Thank you so much! Count Awesome (talk) 04:06, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Mapmaking Advice?[edit]

Hello DrRandomFactor! I'd like to ask for your advice regarding the map in the infobox of the 2019 Canadian federal election. It was annoying me that the font was different than the very similar map for the 2011 Canadian federal election. Since it also did not include Independent as a category, I thought I'd edit the image myself. However, when I edit the image, two things happen. First, even though the font is Arial in Inkscape, it becomes something else when it's published, or at least it doesn't appear as Arial. Second, the positions of the words "Independent" and the number of seats "1" move around. Could you advise me on this problem?

Since it was decided that all Canadian federal election maps should show ridings with a simple legend, I've decided to create these maps. If you'd be interested in this, I can give you my email and we could communicate easier through there. Aven if you do not have the time for such an undertaking, I would appreciate being able to ask questions from someone with expertise as yourself. Please, could you help me?

Hello. Thank you for publishing "British Columbia General Election 2020 - Results by Riding.svg". However, the map seems outdated. Could you please upload a new version according to the final results? Thank you. - Eric0892 (talk) 22:49, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Came here to say the same thing! Hopefully there can be a new version out soon because the 2020 election page without the map feels so incomplete. --Ornithoptera (talk) 08:36, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dear DrRandomFactor, Please look on the File:Flag map of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).png created by you. Surely you have to exclude the area of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania! These three countries never were a part of the CIS! --Ds02006 (talk) 04:12, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Scottish Parliament Maps[edit]

Hi. Can you change the following please:

A) The colour of the constituency text, as the yellow text on white is impossible to see B) Allow the map to be zoom-able, as the constituency numbers at default zoom are illegible

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.92.120.162 (talk) 00:31, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request for a blank map[edit]

Hello Dr. I am a big fan of your work. Your maps are marvelous. I am going to print a huge version of your Quebec electoral map of 2018 and hang it on my wall in preparation for the upcoming 2022 elections. I would like to do the same with a blank version of the same map, if you would be so kind to provide it to me. Please email me at laurencepageau97@gmail.com

Thank you very much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dangerousse (talk • contribs) 18:10, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Help for File:Canada Election 2021 Results Map.svg[edit]

Hello Dr Random Factor. Thank you very much for your previous contributions of uploading election maps. I've created File:Canada Election 2021 Results Map.svg based on your 2015 map. Since you are very skilled with making election maps, once the results for the election are in, would you mind helping me fill in the colours? If I did it, it'd probably take too long! Thank you very much! — Eric0892 (talk) 16:50, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. do you think I should also create a simple version (e.g., File:Canada Election 2019 Results Map (Simple).svg)? Thanks again. — Eric0892 (talk) 16:52, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Canada Federal Election Maps[edit]

There is an error on the Canada federal election maps. One of the insets is labelled "Essex" but it should be labelled "Windsor". Every other inset is labelled based on the name of the city (not the county). This inset shows the Windsor CMA and it should be labelled as such. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 2607:FEA8:2DDB:7B00:A50B:E8B:1AE5:4081 (talk) 22:46, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

File:Flag of a Unified Ireland (Proposal).png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Provincial Legislature Seating Charts[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your work on updating the seating chart infographics for several provincial legislatures. I noticed that on Ontario’s chart, you labelled the Liberal and Green leaders’ seats as “leader of the third party” and “leader of the fourth party”. Same thing for the Sask United Party in Saskatchewan or the Liberal Party in Manitoba. None of those parties have official party status, so their leaders shouldn’t be referenced as such. Members of unrecognized parties are procedurally considered independent members. Keeping the party colours on the seat(s) they hold is appropriate, just no annotation for their leaders. And also note that I am only talking about the articles/infographics related to the legislative assembly. It is absolutely appropriate to reference leadership roles on items relating to the parties themselves. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.
