Your pictures / tes photos[edit]

Hi David, Thanks a lot for all your great pictures from the Armada Rouen 2008! If possible, please identify the ships next time you upload pictures (by looking at the respective categories, e.g., Category:Figureheads), and also categorize them completely (see Category:Sailing ships for more information) so that a maximum number of people can use your pictures in their articles. Thanks! For this time, I've already "identified" the ships from the Category:Unidentified ships, and I'll try to identify the others as well. Salut David, merci beaucoup pour toutes tes photos merveilleuses de l'Armada Rouen 2008! Si c'est possible, la prochaine fois que tu importes tes photos, identifie les bateaux stp (tu peux regarder aux catégories respectives, p.ex. Category:Figureheads pour les figures de proue, etc.); et stp mette-les aussi dans tous les catégories (v. Category:Sailing ships)... ainsi qu'un max de personnes peut utiliser tes images dans ses articles. Merci! Hello,
This upload has been made after a discussion with the "maritime" project on fr:wikipedia. This pictures were taken during my visit of the Armada this summer. I did not know the names of the ships, and did not have the time to look for these names, so people of the "maritime" project told me to categorize everything in Category:Unidentified ships. Part of them have already been identified by french contributors. I imagine there aren't many unidentified yet. Nevertheless, as they have promised to do the job, do not hesitate to ask the french "maritime" project for help. Sincerely yours, David Berardan (talk) 12:34, 30 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Please help replace this outdated license[edit]

Hello!

Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license {{PD}}. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding {{PD-self}} if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.
