Boston/Cambridge[edit]

Hello again! I'm not sure if you live in or visit Greater Boston, but you seem to be familiar with the city. Only if you're interested, I'm currently working to identify and categorize images from my recent trip to Boston and Cambridge at User:Another Believer/Boston and User:Another Believer/Cambridge, Massachusetts. Images without labels have yet to be identified/categorized. I'll get to all of them eventually, but if you like categorize and see any that are easy to knock off the list, I'd appreciate the help. Either way, keep up the amazing work, and I'll keep an eye out for other quality images you've uploaded to nominated for QI status. Happy New Year and happy editing! -Another Believer (talk) 20:18, 3 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi AB - I've admired your work for years, and especially your recent work in cataloging art. Yes, I will be very glad to help out, and hope you have a great 2020... with best wishes, Daderot (talk) 23:22, 3 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, wow, thanks for your kind words! And thanks for offering to take a look when you have time. -Another Believer (talk) 07:09, 4 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Porter[edit]

This file of yours just popped up on my watchlist. What a wonderfully lit shot - and from an angle that I'd never considered!

Two side notes: One, do you have any idea why all the Red Line faregates were open that day? Two, you should probably consider archiving some of your talk page - it looks like templates aren't working properly towards the bottom. Cheers, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 20:55, 4 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pi (etc) - Darn good question. I will try to remember why.... BTW, I have enjoyed and admired your photos for many years now. Thanks for documenting Our Fair City! Daderot (talk) 22:14, 4 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yes. They were filling ballast ahead of Longfellow Bridge, so used a bus service between MIT and somewhere downtown.... Daderot (talk) 22:34, 4 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect, thanks! And I do my best - I live in SF now, so I'm only around twice a year or so to get photos. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 02:18, 5 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Daderot, it appears that the version of File:Shop brickwork - Arlington, MA - DSC05009.jpg which you uploaded 2020-01-27T20:42:18Z is broken or corrupt. Please review the image and attempt to correct this issue by uploading a new version of the file. TheSandBot will re-review this image again in 7 days. If it is still corrupt at that time, then the file may be nominated for deletion. This is most likely to happen when a substantial portion of the image is corrupt. Thank you,

Tokyo National Museum plaque[edit]

Hi Daderot! Thank you for all your wonderful images! One of your photographs is described as a plaque "from the Gutian period", but it is actually a plaque of Gudea, Governor of Lagash, towards the end of the Gutian period. I've added a transcript in the file description page. Usually, this kind of plaques are described as "Plate of Gudea" etc... as they are not particularly Gutian. Could you consider renaming the file by dropping the mention of "Gutian period", and perhaps mention "Plate of Gudea" to avoid misunderstandings? Best regards पाटलिपुत्र (talk) 07:20, 21 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings पाटलिपुत्र ! Thank you so much for your correction. I am not at all an expert in these things, so I just copy what is written on the museum description. Please do feel free to go ahead and request that the file be renamed; you can just add a 'rename' template with the corrected name. (I cannot rename files myself, so I used 'rename' when necessary.) with many thanks, and all best wishes to you - Daderot (talk) 11:47, 21 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much. I will go ahead with a slight modification of the file name, essentially adding that it belongs to Gudea. Best! पाटलिपुत्र (talk) 21:22, 21 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your picture of "Apis Bull carrying Mummy, coffin foot panel, Sackler Museum - Harvard University - DDSC01853.jpg"[edit]

Hi, Your picture is of great quality, much better than what we can find in many museums! I am having trouble finding it of a museum page which would provide mre inforamtion for my work. Do you know where this object is kept and which museum it belongs to? It doesn't seem to be on Harvard Museums page, so it mas maybe only exhibited here for a temporary exhibition, when you took the picture? I would greatly appreciate it if you had more information to give me. Thanks a lot and thanks again for the very good picture. Caroline

Greetings! It's a puzzler - I don't have any more information than the filename indicates but did see it on exhibit there. Here's a pointer to a Harvard curator: For more information please contact the Division of Asian and Mediterranean Art at am_asianmediterranean@harvard.edu - hope that can help. Sorry that I can't be more helpful!! Daderot (talk) 18:06, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for your answer, that's very nice of you to have taken the time! Best, Caroline

May 10th 2020 : Dear Daderot, sorry to bother you again. Can you remember which exhibition it was displayed in? If I have the title I can manage to find the catalogue and more information. Thank you very much, once again ! Caroline

Hi Caroline, It was not in a specific exhibition. Instead, it was in the general displays for museum holdings. I'm very sorry about that! Daderot (talk) 12:45, 11 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you anyway for your kind answer! All the best, Caroline

Nicolò Zen (1515-1565) by Titian, 1560-1565, oil on canvas - Saloon - Kingston Lacy - Dorset, England - DSC03492.jpg[edit]

Good afternoon,

I wish to use your photo Nicolò Zen (1515-1565) by Titian, 1560-1565, oil on canvas - Saloon - Kingston Lacy - Dorset, England - DSC03492.jpg. This will be included in a free ebook publishing the PhD dissertation of a friend of mine who died tragically 3 years ago. I'd like to give you full credit: would you like me to use Daderot or your full name? If you prefer the latter, I would be grateful if you can provide me with the details.

Many thanks,

Carlo Corsato

Greetings, I am glad that you are publishing the dissertation, and doubly glad that the image of Nicolò Zen is helpful. As for credit, I would be happy with "Daderot". All best wishes to you, Daderot (talk) 13:34, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks! I will give credit you as Daderot then. Many many thanks for sharing your pictures so generously! Carlo

File:Portrait of the Artist's Daughters, probably early 1760s, by Thomas,Gainsborough (1727-1788) - IMG 7281.JPG[edit]

Hello Daderot, Although I don’t know this work, the photo looks very good. Thanks! I’m currently writing an art history book that includes a short discussion on Gainsborough’s The Painter’s Daughters Chasing a Butterfly (NG London), and I’d like to add your photo as a small supplementary figure to the main plate, in order to demonstrate the artist’s aspirations for Mary and Margaret. Could you possibly confirm I have your permission to reproduce the photo, and also, would you object if the partial evidence of a frame is removed, in order to be consistent with all the other reproductions in the book? So sorry to trouble you, but would really appreciate your confirmation here. Thanks a lot and all the best - Tredarvah

Hello! I'm glad the photo will be useful to you. Yes, you have permission to use this photo in any way that you wish, with or without attribution. Please do feel free to alter it as desired, including cropping. with all best wishes, and good luck with the book! Daderot (talk)

Thanks both for your permission and the good luck. The photo will of course be attributed! Best wishes, Tredarvah

A request...[edit]

I've been looking at your pictures of the Arabia Steamboat exhibits. Is there any chance that you would add some description to interpret your pictures, please? It would add a great deal of value to ypur work Timtrent (talk) 19:58, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Timtrent, I'm sorry to say that my visit there was so long ago that I don't remember anything further. I do wish that I'd added detail then, but for some reason I didn't. My apologies and best wishes, Daderot (talk)

Archive?[edit]

Hello again! I visit your user talk page now and then to see if any other images have been promoted to quality status. I've noticed your talk page is quite long and somewhere along the way the QI bot quit displaying notifications properly. Would you mind archiving, or letting me archive some of the older QI bot messages, to see if some stray markup may be preventing from bot notifications displaying properly? Of course, this is your talk page, so I don't want to step on any toes. Thanks! -Another Believer (talk) 23:44, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there - I've tried adding bot code to this page, and if I did it right, it should be archived within 24 hours. Best wishes, Daderot (talk) 10:36, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No, I give up. I cannot figure out how to run a bot. If you could archive the page, I would be much obliged. Otherwise I'll just delete it.... Daderot (talk)
I've created 4 archive links above. Looks like this fixed the bot error messages, too! I hope this helps and works for you. -Another Believer (talk) 21:05, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Wow! many many thanks to you - I deeply appreciate your help. with all best wishes, Daderot (talk)

Hi Daderot, the photo has a license for the statue, but not for the actual photo. Can you add one? I would suggest you add {{Self|Cc-zero}}. Multichill (talk) 07:34, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Railway bridge over Mill Brook (Arlington, Massachusetts)[edit]

I appreciate your eye for the details – fences, traffic signal controllers, manhole covers – that are rarely documented by photographers, and this little culvert is one of them. Would you be able to add coordinates to your photos of it? (I find this site to be very useful.) I'd ordinarily add them myself, like I just did for this file, but it appears there's several crossings of Mill Brook and the Minuteman and I don't want to add erroneous coordinates. A question on your photo[edit]

Hi, please can you clarify if this image,

Ashanti military image

is an ancient golden Ashanti war mask and personal armor? Because the other thing beside the mask doesn't look like a shield. It looks more like a strap or breastplate. Kwesi Yema (talk) 04:05, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings! I don't know much about these objects, and simply copied the museum's description. Both items are small and clearly ornaments - but that's all I know. Sorry I can't be more helpful, and all best wishes to you for the holidays. Daderot (talk)
